Otis’s Ripcord has been out for a few months. If you’ve pulled one of these things through a gun barrel, then I may be preaching to the choir. They’re fantastic. The Ripcord does in one pass what a lot of brushes and mops together only wish they could do. The fit is tight. The pull itself takes a bit of muscle. But the results are really astounding.

The Ripcord’s fit comes from its molded rubberized core. Nomex fibers woven around the core trap and remove fouling. The narrow end of the Ripcord is a bit like a rat’s tail. Thread it down the barrel in the direction that the bullet travels, and then give it a solid firm pull. That’s it. If you want to add a cleaner of some sort, the Nomex will work even more effectively, and the tight fit acts a bit like a squeegee, leaving a shiny clean barrel in its wake. It is currently available in 5.56mm, .30 cal, 9mm, .40 cal and .45 cal, with more expected soon

Otis001Otis is equally proud of their B.O.N.E. Tool, a deceptively simple tool for AR shooters that scrapes fouling from the bolt, bolt carrier, and the firing pin. This tool earned the NRA’s Golden Bullseye award as the accessory of the year.  Check out Otis. It isn’t the flashiest booth we’ve seen at the SHOT Show this year, but they just might make the most practical products we’ve seen this year.Otis006Otis003

I have several of the Hoppes Bore Snakes and I am not very impressed by there cleaning ability. And don’t always believe the reviews of new products.

Please notify me when the ripcord is available for .38 caliber.

    Thank you

The currently available 9mm model is listed as 9mm/.38 on some retailer websites. I don’t think a .38 specific Ripcord will be available.

The 9mm Ripcord is also for .38 caliber.

I wonder how these compare with Hoppes Bore Snakes?

    • Kenneth January 20, 2014, 12:45 pm

My bore snakes never fit as tight as I’d like. These look to be somewhat better. I want!
