PARA’s latest 1911’s are built for speed: The Pro-Custom 18.9—SHOT Show 2014

The Pro-Custom 18.9 isn’t your typical 1911. It might look like its ancestors, but it has a distinct difference. The double-stack magazine holds 18 rounds of 9mm. While I’m hesitant to call that an advantage, it does have its benefits. If you’re looking for a fast race gun, you won’t have nearly as many reloads with the 18.9 as you would with a .45 ACP 1911 (even one that’s a double-stack). And because it is a 9mm, you can still get a decent grip on the gun.

As this gun is built for fast accurate shot delivery, it has an easy-to-see fiber-optic front sight and a flat black target sight on the back. The stainless slide and frame hide a full-length guide rod. The fit is superb for a production gun. It runs smoothly and fast. Recoil from the 9mm is negligible. The weight of the gun holds it down nicely, so recovery time between shots feels faster than a traditional .45 ACP 1911.

Para006Check out PARA’s 1911s. They’ve got a complete line of very well-made guns, ranging from the custom competition models to the adaptable carry guns. If you’re looking for a 1911 that’s a cut above the entry level models, but one that isn’t going to break the bank, Para is a fine choice.

There are a few coming out. I got 1 yesterday for a customer, that’s been back-ordered for a year. All of my distributors are still back-ordered. Still no info on the extra mags though, and when I called Para regarding extra mags, the rep I spoke to didn’t even know any of the pistols had been shipped.

Have the narrowed down an actual release date for it?? I have been calling PARA for about 6 months regarding the Pro-Custom 18.9, and always hear mixed answers on release date! I just want to purchase one as soon as possible!

Does Para even make a .38 Super? If they were really thinking competition, that would be the caliber of this one. Don’t get me wrong, I love my P-14 in .45, but I also shoot .38 Super and would LOVE to have one in a double stack Para single action.

I’ve owned several 1911s in 9mm. My favorite was a SS Springfield Amory. The problem with 9mm is power. I’ve found you can never increase the power in 9mm enough and .40S&W can only just be. I’d rather go with a double stack .40S&W, if anything. Glock makes a long barreled .40S&W that holds 15 rounds.

In competition, I’d rather go with a Para with a double stack magazines, chambered in .38 Super…

I’m unable to view the video, thus may have missed the answer to my question… is this designed as a 9mm or is a simple modification of a .45 top end? Having owned a Colt 1911 in 9mm, I had a bit of bad experience with the magazines, feed angle, etc. I got rid of it rather than mess with it.
