Shooters Grill: Where the Waitresses Open Carry

Authors S.H. Blannelberry

From NRA News investigative reporter Ginny Simone:

Good food, friendly service and a huge helping of freedom — that’s what they’re dishing up at Shooters Grill in Rifle, Colorado. “It’s not about politics, it’s a way of life,” says one of the servers, who can be seen brandishing a Ruger Blackhawk .357 on her hip. But she’s not alone, customers carry too and owner Lauren Boebert wouldn’t have it any other way. “We’re certainly able to protect ourselves,” she says.

Rifle is a place of my high school years when my mother was working for the majors tying up the oil shale deposits. There were producing wells out in the county. The people were good and friendly. Never felt threatened.

Great stuff I don’t see anything about the barrel being threaded, I know they don’t sell them like that, I know how to do it and build adapters for the barrel, but give me a break I can do the same thing with a piece of drive shaft tubing. Waste of a good flash lite

We went out of curiosity and to support the business. The food is REALLY good. So regardless of your views, if you want a great meal, stop by. We were there for breakfast, and all four of us in our party enjoyed it.

  • Chris January 1, 2015, 11:31 pm

Love it, the whole country should be this way. Daring the bad guys while enjoying a great meal, what’s not to love.

  • Glenn Hollier January 1, 2015, 7:01 pm

Need to have more places like this.
Need to franchise one down here in Louisiana.
Might settle the natives down a bit.

  • Kirby January 1, 2015, 5:40 pm

So instead of patting her on the ass (an abhorent yet traditionally accepted chauvinistic behavior), you reach for and pull her pistol?

    • Dale January 5, 2015, 9:36 pm

Try it…I bet you’ll have no less than 50 guns pointed in your direction (LOL).

  • john creveling January 1, 2015, 4:44 pm

I love it! However the waitress with the Blackhawk in a Buscadro rig down around her knees needs to wear a firearm correctly. One drawing and using it effectively would be hard and two it’s gotta be uncomfortable to wait tables in all day.If you are going to wear a firearm in a high profile venue look like you know what your doing.Great 2nd amendment statment.

  • Ray January 1, 2015, 2:19 pm

    Brian,
I like your “good gun, bad gun” analogy very much but then you had to drop the L word. You use it like a cuss word. I happen to be a liberal that believes in gun rights very much. I carry concealed (with a license) and open carry in the seat if I am driving long distances. I am somewhat insulted by your definition of liberal and also wonder why you find it necessary to bash another group when voicing your opinion. You very much had my attention at first then you took off on a very un-necessary tangent.
I live in Virginia and will probably never get to the Shooters Grill but I would sure love to visit someday.

    Peace out, Ray

  • Roger January 1, 2015, 2:08 pm

What we need now is a Hooters with open-carry waitresses!

    • ejharb January 1, 2015, 7:03 pm

but if your wife is prone to clubbing you when you look at the”scenery” leave her home.
and is it me or is ginny aging most delightfully?

  • David Hewett January 1, 2015, 1:44 pm

    Fantastic idea
I love it .there should be more places like it
You should think about franchising your place

  • Eric January 1, 2015, 1:35 pm

    Can’t wait to get there.

  • Nathan January 1, 2015, 12:57 pm

I visited Rifle Colorado in November 2014 on my road trip across this beautiful country from California (CA Sucks) to Virginia.
Went to Shooters Grill and had lunch, bought a Shooters Grill t-shirt and enjoyed my visit. Great service, food and it was nice to see the waitresses carrying. My waitress carried a Glock. If you visit, be sure to check out many of the other very cool small businesses in town. There is a nice gun store right across the street from the grill that is great too. I’ll definitely stop there again on my next trip through Colorado.

  • Pete in Steamboat January 1, 2015, 12:31 pm

And to top it all off … One is just an hour or so from great skiing at either Aspen, Snowmass, or Steamboat Springs. Wonderful fly fishing on the Yampa, Green, Colorado, and Blue rivers. An some of the best hunting in the central Rockies. Just saying . . .

  • David January 1, 2015, 10:57 am

This is has to be the best place on the planet to open carry.Love to visit there.Maybe even live there.

  • Gary Johnson January 1, 2015, 10:24 am

That’s surely the truth about California. I can remember when you could do open carry in CA. That would be prior to both Kennedys being killed. I’m surprised that they would allow open carry in such a liberal State. California used to be a great place to live until the illegals arrived along with Pelosi, Boxer and Fineswine. They ruined the state by welcoming the illegals for their unconstitutional votes. Brought by the bus loads to vote since you can’t ask for proof of citizenship to vote. The Democrapes load the buses and take them to polling stations and force the poll workers to allow them to vote. In all California sucks, literally.

  • Wayne MacCluskey January 1, 2015, 9:51 am

What a GREAT place!! That’s the way America should be!! This country was raised with guns to either hunt for food or to protect yourself. You can see that it has survived so far. In the beginning if you killed someone with a gun or any other means you went to court (if you made it that far) and if you were found guilty they took you out to the waiting gallows and you were hung. Obama and his puppets really think if they take away our Second Amendment rights it’s going to stop crime and killings. The criminals and the crazies get guns now! Does Obama and all the anti gun activists really think they won’t get them just because of a piece of paper?? WAKE UP AMERICA God gave you the right to protect yourself and the Second Amendment gives you the right to bear arms. The government puts guns in your hands and tells you to kill when we go to war to protect our country and way of life. Aren’t our lives and our family’s worth protecting? The Shooting Grill in Rifle CO. is setting an excellent example of how and why it should be. Everyone should follow suit!! LET NO MAN TAKE AWAY OUR RIGHTS as written by our founding Fathers.

  • Brian January 1, 2015, 9:11 am

Love to visit and may sometime. God Bless Them!
If I were a nut case and wanted to take out as many people as I could, I would go to a place where I knew the people had no way of defending themselves; places like Target or Starbucks, not a place like Shooters Grill. Like many of our politicians and their “useful idiots”, the people running those businesses have a problem placing blame where blame is do, on the perpetrator. Instead they place the blame on an inanimate object, a gun. To show you how stupid they are, they say, “guns are bad”. That raises the question, are there any “good” guns? If a policeman stops a crime or criminal with his gun, wouldn’t that be a “good gun”? So a H&K in the hands of a police officer is a good gun and the SAME gun placed in the hands of a criminal is a bad gun. Poor gun doesn’t know what it is!
Liberals live in a world of “political correctness” where morals and rights are relative, so they can say what is right and wrong and what our rights are. They don’t what to blame anyone (if they are a politician running for office, to maximize votes) or be blamed by anyone (if they are a criminal); so they shift blame away from the criminal, to guns and other objects; objects that they can control. They believe if we can make our environment completely safe, restrict or take away anything that could harm us, the people would be forced to treat each other with respect and we can all live in this imaginary Utopian Society singing kumbaya… under their control of course. But governments that have been able to leverage personal rights away from the people, always turn into Police States. The people end up living under tyranny and the only rights people have are the rights of the collective, again controlled by the few. Marxists believe they are more intelligent than the lower classes and therefore must find ways to control the masses; basically, they know what is best for us since we are so stupid.
Power hungry politicians point at guns, used in crimes, as a way of shifting rights away from the individual, to the government. They believe the government should have the final say in what we should think, say or do. That is not American, it’s Marxist/Socialist/Communist thinking and it is reaching critical mass in our nation.

    • Rev. Lewis January 1, 2015, 11:29 pm

It is odd that you mention the classist system of government. Early this morning, I finall watched a movie I could barely get past the first fifteen minutes before I fall asleep. The movie is “Divergent”. Check it out. It details everything Brian has mentioned. CHAOS!

  • MartinHouse January 1, 2015, 8:54 am

THIS is a Bloombergian nightmare. Liberal gun grabbers and purveyors of the Obama anti-gun, anti-American, anti-freedom agenda, who believe that guns cause crime, murder and mayhem, can see for themselves firsthand, how wrong they are.
Great concept, great place and an embodiment of what American freedom is.

  • Mike MacKay January 1, 2015, 8:26 am

Down here in Texas we have Gun Barrel City, TX.
Maybe the owner should franchise and open one down here?

    • JIM FOS January 1, 2015, 9:51 am

A damn GOOD IDEA. Wish they had one here on Fort Worth also!!!!

  • Steve K January 1, 2015, 6:36 am

    Wish I lived there!

  • Skip December 12, 2014, 6:57 pm

I bet the crime statistics are pretty close to 0! Crime is probably not the first thing on a criminals mind when they walk into this town! “RUN” might be though! LOL

  • Mike December 12, 2014, 6:19 pm

Darn well make sure to leave a good tip. 🙂

    • Dale January 5, 2015, 9:33 pm

How about if every customer brings in a box of ammo. for his/her waitress? Of course this means asking in advance what different cal. are represented in the waitresses firearms.

  • Mr Russell M Syens December 12, 2014, 12:09 pm

The next time I am in Denver I will make it a point to visit. I carry SW S&M .40. I also may carry a Desert Eaglet 44mag or Ruger Red Hawk 44mag. Looks like a great place eat, meet and greet people of like kind.

  • BOB CAYTON December 9, 2014, 8:24 am

  • Larry J.Wright December 8, 2014, 9:36 am

what a great concept, grew up in colorado moved after high school to california for college, now live in iowa we have
concealed carry here and i do,i dont tend to go into places that dont support my right’s under the constitution,my girl
freind and i will stop in at shooter’s on are way out to visit my brother in calif this summer, long live real america!

    • Nic January 1, 2015, 1:07 pm

Iowa is OPEN carry state wide … concealed carry by choice.

  • carmelo December 7, 2014, 2:45 pm

See what Morton Grove and Chicago vicinity misses!! And no fools here either to mess up its own community!

  • Gordon Miller December 7, 2014, 9:27 am

Have you ever seriously thought about franchising this idea, I live in Arizona and thought it might fit extremely well. I love the idea.

  • Ron Crawford December 5, 2014, 1:53 pm

Good for Rifle and their law enforcement. Stand firm.
We open carry in Pagosa Springs as well. I could live in Rifle and feel safer than anywhere else, i.e. NYC, Chicago, LA, Denver. It’s too bad the other side of Colorado has gone so liberal and criminal in government. What a mix…

    • Kenneth Q January 24, 2015, 9:52 am

LA as in Louisiana or Los Angeles because Louisiana does allow open carry.

  • Joseph Wisniewski December 5, 2014, 11:46 am

Excellent this should be done all over America. I would move there.

  • Dean Winfiel December 3, 2014, 2:15 pm

I like it. I like it. I like it.

    However….that said….

I am very, very fearful that this is an ‘in your face’ situation where some suicidal nut enters this business for the expressed purpose of making his ‘final exit’ and thereby causes other innocent by-standers to make their ‘final exit’

Sorry for my misgings…but we live in a crazy world

    Dean Winfiel
not a kid…will be 76 in a few days, not a liberal, not a libertarian, disenchanted registered republican…probably do not fit well with any group….I do NOT believe in capital punishment-partly because too many innocent people have been convicted, I DO believe in hard labor…even the chain gang concept…I could take a life to protect myself…would not need to say that I was protecting my wife, etc….if I still had a steady hand and youthful vision I could take someone out to protect a stranger, it is just that I could not participate in killing someone totally under subjection…..how do I know??? Jury duty.. Jackson County Missouri 50+ years ago!

    • GP January 1, 2015, 2:03 pm

Losers who chose “final exit” would never pick this place because they would be receiving “warm” welcome from everybody.
They are cowards and choose places where nobody carry weapons.

  • Garry December 3, 2014, 10:11 am

If the waitress is wearing a firearm on her hip in a holster, it’s not “brandishing”, which is a crime in many jurisdictions.

  • Nate December 2, 2014, 12:25 pm

This is a terrific idea. Let’s get some franchises going. Let’s make this name as big as those golden arches!

  • Larry December 2, 2014, 12:15 pm

What a great place! The Second Amendment lives there, the food looks good, the waitresses are pretty & the weapons on their hips look great. The next time in that part of the country, we will be going in for grub.

  • Dave Hicks December 2, 2014, 8:21 am

    The food looks good also.

  • Thomas December 2, 2014, 6:14 am

Kinda makes you want to move to Rifles, South Dakota.

    • Bill December 2, 2014, 11:25 am

Thomas, I’m not certain if there is a Rifles, South Dakota but if you wish to visit the Shooters Grill of Rifle, you’ll need to go to Rifle, Colorado (just off of I-70 between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction).

      • Russ December 3, 2014, 1:10 pm

        Aaahhh, Rifle, CO—–lol Bill
I think I do want to live there, Thomas.
The atmosphere seems to be great in that restaurant.
I hate California now. They ruined it
