Meet the SIG Sauer LIMA320 – A Laser Built Right into the Frame of Your P320

LIMA5 P320

The SIG Sauer LIMA320 is an integrated laser built right into the frame of your P320.

I haven’t been shy about how much I like the SIG Sauer P320 X-Five. It has been my all-purpose gun since it came out earlier this year. Equally suited for competition, tactical chores, or home defense, this is a fantastic gun!

But in terms of pure defense, how could SIG make the P320 X-Five better? If you said, “By integrating a red laser into the frame,”  you guessed correctly! Earlier this week, I got one of the new SIG LIMA320 frame modules in. And it is everything I thought it would be.

Over the summer, I covered how much I like lasers for defensive handguns. The upsides are many, and the downsides are few. If you absolutely must burn someone down in low light or no light conditions, they are the best solution.

NOTE: The LIMA5 highlighted in the video is now known as the LIMA320.  Same great product, just a new name!

The only real drawback is that you often need a special holster for an add-on laser. That larger holster becomes an issue if you need to stuff it in your pants for concealed carry.  With the LIMA320 there is no added bulk.  No bulge on the frame of the gun.

The only ergonomic difference between a LIMA320 and any other P320 grip is the small activation button underneath the trigger guard. Functionally, the LIMA320 grip costs you the accessory rail, as this real estate is used for the laser module. But that’s a small price to pay considering you’d probably use the accessory rail for a laser anyhow and with the LIMA320 you can now carry in a traditional holster.

The LIMA320 comes in both red and green lasers.

Right now the SIG P320 is the King of chassis-system guns in my opinion, and the LIMA320 plays to that strength. Since it is a complete grip module, installation is a breeze.

Take the chassis out of your gun, slap it in the LIMA320 frame, re-install the slide, Bob’s your uncle. It is easier than any other laser I have ever installed, including the ones that go on the accessory rail. That is a pretty bold statement, but it’s true. The laser is fully adjustable for your eyes, but mine came zeroed out of the plastic. Pretty hard to beat that.

Another advantage of this system is instinctive activation. The second you squeeze your gun you naturally index the laser. The button is in the same place as most add-on flashlight switches, that is to say where your middle finger on your firing hand rests below the trigger guard.

The battery sits right at the base of the grip. It’s so small that you don’t even realize it’s there.

The activation button is perfectly situated below the trigger guard, where your middle finger naturally rests.

This is my preferred activation spot and it holds a distinct benefit over add-on jobs. The switch for bolt-on lasers will eventually be rubbed bare by duty holsters, a problem we had in the military. It takes a while, but it will happen. Usually, a new switch is about $90. With the LIMA320 system, there is nothing exposed to be worn.

Comes in real handy in low light and no light situations.

Lastly, there is a huge bonus for the laser being at the front of the pistol, and the switch at the back. With lasers mounted on the grip, very common with Glocks, the laser is easy to obstruct. This may be a unique problem for me, especially when I shoot compact guns with my large mitts.  But my top knuckle on my firing hand has a tendency to cover the laser.  Not so with the LIMA320.

There is no point in buying a laser you can’t use under stress. The LIMA320 solves this problem nicely. The only way to cover the laser would also be to cover the bore.

The LIMA320 frame is a huge step forward in defensive pistol technology if you happen to be using a P320. Which I highly encourage anyway. This is the best laser option available for the platform and is now available in red or green.

Not a substantial difference in size between a LIMA320 frame and a traditional P320 X-Five frame.  But you’ll immediately notice how much bulkier the add-on laser is compared to the LIMA320.
