A Swedish watchmaker has taken gun-related virtue signaling to a whole new level. The company, helpfully named Transforming the Industry of Watches (TRIWA), is manufacturing timekeepers constructed from the metal derived from 10,000 melted guns.

“A watch says a lot about you as a person,” Ludvig Scheja, the company’s co-founder, told Forbes.com. “If you have that story on your wrist, against gun violence, that says a lot about you.”

That it does.

TRIWA gets its non-violent metal from a Swedish nonprofit called IM Swedish Development Partner. IM has been working with governments from countries like El Salvador and Guatemala to procure the firearms needed to create Humanium, a mostly-iron substance they’ve dubbed “the world’s most valuable metal.”

IM works with companies like TRIWA to develop demand for Humanium, and their website lists four companies in addition to the watchmaker that plan to use their virtuous iron.

“There are hundred of millions of illegal firearms in the world [sic]. As a result, someone is shot every minute,” IM says on its website. “Armed violence is a worldwide problem accounting for more than 1,500 deaths each day. Every year at least 500.000 people are killed by firearms, making small arms true ‘weapons of mass destruction.’”

The company even includes on their website a helpful infographic showing exactly how they turn guns into metal.

The United States isn’t immune to gun destruction efforts. While many police departments opt to auction firearms seized from criminals, GunBusters works with law enforcement to destroy those firearms using their GunBusters® Firearms Pulverizer System.

“In 2018, GunBusters designed the first, patent pending, mobile firearms pulverizer, with a stand-alone, non-polluting, rechargeable, power supply,” they say on their website. “The GunBusters Mobile Firearms Pulverizer was developed to provide on-site firearms destruction services for larger agencies needing to destroy at least 500 firearms.”

This year has also seen a spate of do-gooders destroying AR-15s, including one Virginia congressional candidate who came under ATF investigation for accidentally creating a short-barreled rifle. Dick’s Sporting Goods also announced that instead of selling or returning the AR-15s it pulled off its shelves, the company had plans to destroy the rifles.

So far TRIWA has used 3-D printing to produce 20 Humanium watches, and they plan to give them to influential people at the United Nations and elsewhere, according to Forbes. They’ll be available to the public in September for $279 a pop.

Yuuuugggee tariffs on “humanium” products coming into the country. And extra taxes. And background checks, and red flag confiscation. Nobody ever said we have the right to keep and bear time pieces…….

Cant wait to read about someone being bludgeoned to death with an ingot of “humanium”? Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

  • J July 20, 2018, 12:26 pm

I wouldn’t be caught dead with one of those on my wrist.

I all ways wanted a Swiss watch, but after this. I just stick to my Timex.

    • Ain't Swiss July 20, 2018, 4:32 pm

      Switzerland ain’t Sweden. Just sayin’

    • Spasmonaut July 20, 2018, 9:46 pm

The Swiss watches should be fine for now. Take another look at the article. These are from Sweden, not Switzerland.

Symbolism over substance, nothing new on the Liberal front here.
    With one possible exception.
    Capitalizing on peoples emotions.
Oh wait, I’m wrong, the Left does that politically already, so it’s just natural that they now ‘cash in’ on it.
Guess we have something in common after all.
    LOL!!!!!!!

Well I can see how this plan will “backfire” on them. I think that’s cool as hell and totally plan on carrying those suckers in my Gun Store… Lol. If those idiots are going to destroy them anyway I’d be proud to wear an AK around my wrist.

I’ve cuff links made from the stocks of decommissioned M1’s. I’ve another pair made from the casings of expended .45ACP rounds.

I don’t wear watches – the “die” after 4-5 weeks on my wrist – but might have to reconsider now.

Great, turn in your gun and get a watch, then after you dial 911 you can time how long it takes for help to come while you bleed out because you couldn’t defend yourself.

  • Sepp W July 17, 2018, 6:45 pm

Whatever. Novelty at best. I’ll stick to my Hamilton and Waltham pocket watches.

  • Blue Dog July 17, 2018, 10:52 am

Okay, that symbolism is over the top, even for me. They call the metal humanium, the most valuable metal in the world. Those will be a big hit at the UN, they love that kind of misguided and arrogant symbolism there.

Donald Trump should make another baby jail out of humanium.

And crazy me, I was thinking of a gun made out of Swedish watches.
