The Fastfire 4 – Budget Blasting Red Dot

I approached the Fastfire 4 with a good degree of excitement. I loved the Fastfire 3 and would hope the Fastfire 4 lives up to its reputation.

Burris SpeedBead

The Burris SpeedBead – A Disappointing Test

I don’t get why Remington doesn’t just tap their shotguns for an optic’s mount. Like all of their shotguns. Mossberg does it, so why can’t Remington? Luckily, solutions exist, and one that has always interested me was the Burris SpeadBead. It seems like a great solution for a complicated problem. Burris designed the Spea Bead to be an optic mounting solution that doesn’t require a tapped receiver.

Burris Thermal Scope Plus a (Not) Boring Rifle = A Great Night Hog Hunting Rig

I dropped down onto the other side of the ranch gate and onto the saturated soil. I was hunting private property south of Longview, Texas, in early April 2021, and it had been raining much of the last 24 hours. It had been raining pretty steady for the last three days of my time here in East Texas, which made the fields and pastures even more inviting to the feral hogs that so love to root up the ground.

Burris Oracle Bow Sight Provides Exact Point of Aim, Ranges to 500 Yards

Burris recently announced their brand-new Oracle rangefinding bow sight, a one-of-a-kind device that provides both the exact distance to the target and exact point of aim. We got our sweaty little fingers on it at this year’s NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, and it looks like it could be a game-changer.

New Burris Tri Modular Prism Riflescope — SHOT Show 2018

New Burris Tri Modular Prism Riflescope — SHOT Show 2018

Burris has taken a step away from the big ticket items this year, reaching back into the prism realm. New for this year, the Tri-Modular Prism riflescope, or TMPR. Available in 3x or 5x, these are the same size as the previous models, with a 40% gain in field of view. Illumination is now push button instead of dials, slimming the package. The reticle switches from red, green, or blue, and now features night vision settings to match the daylight ones.

Burris XTR II Riflescope -- SHOT Show 2017

Burris XTR II Riflescope — SHOT Show 2017

Burris makes great riflescopes. That’s not news to anyone. What I’m really excited about is that the XTR II is now available in flat dark earth. The color change is a welcome addition. If you are hunting or in the tactical business, a scope all in black is a pretty big object that sticks out. Painting one is always nerve racking, no matter how well you taped it off. At least with a rifle, if you screw up, you can scrape the paint out of the trigger group.

There are at least three main categories of AR optics, red dot, fixed power scopes, and high-magnification scopes. Which do you choose?

Optics Buying Guide: AR-15 Optics and Scopes

Matching the seemingly infinite number of AR rifles on the market is a multitude of suitable optics. Red dots, holographic sights, fixed-power scopes and variable-power scopes fill the shelves, so how do you choose? Let’s take a look at some factors to consider, then we’ll discuss some pros and cons of some of the common categories of AR-15 optics.
