When the Mauser M18 rifle was first introduced last year, reactions were predictably split. Some hunters immediately rushed out to buy one while some of the more stodgy types among us declared, “That’s not a Mauser – it’s a push feed!”

The People’s Rifle is made for shooters or hunters who want functionality first and foremost, including exceptional accuracy.

Details are few and far between, but it looks like Mauser is set to reboot their classic Mauser 98 rifle with DWM brand markings.

The popular M18 hunting rifle line dubbed “The People’s Rifle” by Mauser has been released this year in 6.5 PRC to add to the many other common calibers it is made in.

We hunters, especially those of you – who like me – enjoy carrying a bolt-action rifle for big game, owe a helluva lot to a German gentleman named Mauser. Peter Paul von Mauser, to be specific. A brilliant designer, Herr Mauser gave us not only the 7×57 and 8×57 cartridges, but the Gewehr 98 rifle, which would set the standard for bolt-action rifle reliability that stands to this day. The Mauser name – synonymous in the firearms world with the reputation that German engineering has secured – is one that hunters have come to rely on for a century and a quarter.

To maintain and ensure their neutrality, Sweden in the 19th and 20th centuries developed a well-trained military force based on conscription in which all young men would be trained, and subject to call-up in emergencies. It also developed some amazing military rifles. It paid off. All sides in both World Wars avoided antagonizing the Swedes.
