Take the Glock Safety Pledge this June

This June, take the Glock Safety Pledge to practice the four rules of firearm safety!

Join Glock and take the pledge to #FollowTheFour this June.

This annual pledge, now in its fifth installment, has drawn the support of over 50,000 people over the years.  While we know that you #FollowtheFour 24/7 365, this call-to-action is about spreading awareness of the four rules of firearms safety and showing the world that when it comes to responsible gun ownership, we — the gun community — lead the charge.

To take the pledge, start by visiting the Glock website. There, you will find an interactive screen that allows you to type in your reason for joining this movement.  Once you’ve typed it in, you’ll see the buttons to share on social media.  It’s really easy to do.

This is what the screen looks like.  You just type in your reason for following the four this year and then click on the social media buttons to share with friends, family, and followers.

“We believe that the first and most important step to being a responsible gun owner is knowing how to handle and store your firearm safely,” said Glock Vice President Josh Dorsey in a press release.  “And as a firearms manufacturer and a leader in the industry, it is GLOCK’s first and foremost responsibility to teach and promote firearms safety.”

Four rules of firearm safety:

  1. Treat all firearms as if they’re loaded;
  2. Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy;
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to fire;
  4. Be sure of your target and what’s beyond it

    Glocks are great guns, but for Glocks and similar striker-fired guns, Rule 3 doesn’t go far enough. It isn’t just your finger that can fire these guns–sticks, shirts, drawstrings, etc., etc. can do it too. With a round in the chamber, these guns need to be holstered until you’re ready to shoot. I was startled last year to learn that a relative of mine, a new shooter, was carrying a Glock 43 in his pant pocket unholstered, a recipe for disaster.

    Glocks and most other modern firearms will not fire unless the trigger is pulled all the way to the rear. If you accidently drop your gun, do not attempt to catch it. Let it fall to the floor. It will not discharge! When you pick it up don’t put your finger on the trigger like the idiot FBI agent in Colorado did.

    You should also add keeping firearms safety secured and inaccessible to others.

    Glocks are great because there is no stupid safety lever that needs to be toggled to “F” before you shoot it,,, just point and pull the trigger,,, PERFECTION… !

    Anyone owning anything more dangerous than a nerf gun should be practicing those four rules to begin with.

    That glock “trigger safety” is a recipe for disaster IMO. They should at least have a grip safety to prevent the multitudes of ND “accidents” that have happened with that style of trigger.

    I prefer SW wheel guns, but I love my two Glocks.

      The safest thing that people can do is pledge to not buy a Glock in the first place.

        I pledge to not ever ( I try to never say never) buy a glock. S&W revolvers rule.
