Talo Distributors is working with top manufacturers, engravers and finishing companies to ring in 2017 with a couple of gorgeous new exclusives. First up is the Colt Nimschke Engraver’s Edition, a limited run of just 300 pistols. They also have a Ruger Super Blackhawk Turnbull Edition with a run of 1,000 revolvers.

The Colt is a full-size 1911 chambered for .45 ACP. Built on a brushed stainless steel frame, slide engravers carved designs based on master engraver Louis Daniel Nimschke’s favorite themes and patterns with symmetrical, interwoven scrolling on the slide, frame, and hardwood grips. He also marks each gun personally with his initials on the slide by the rear sight notch.

The scrollwork provides a nice contrast with the simple brushed finish underneath. Additionally the slide and grips feature gold highlights. The slide and grips have 24-karat gold inlaid Rampant Colts and the grips are fixed in place with gold screws.

It is otherwise a familiar Series 70 1911. It has a 7+1-round capacity with standard magazines and comes with two along with a Colt Custom Shop case and certificate. The pistol is configured with a right-side thumb safety, traditional spur hammer, short beavertail safety and curved mainspring housing.

The Nimschke Engraver’s Edition is eye-catching but classy. It’s a collectible that can still be worn on the hip and enjoyed at the range.

For something a little more subtle there’s the upcoming Ruger Super Blackhawk Turnbull Edition. This is a full-size handgun chambered for .44 Magnum with a 7.5-inch barrel.

The Ruger features an instantly-recognizable Turnbull cold case-hardened finish on the receiver, while the cylinder, grip, frame and barrel have a deep glossy polished blue finish for a classic two-tone look.

The single-action revolver is finished with a red hardwood grip featuring black and nickel Ruger medallions on both sides.

Like the Colt, the Ruger is still a proven workhorse and while it’s perfectly fine for display, with its long barrel it will really shine shooting full-house .44 Magnum loads for hunting, wheel-gun games or just a fun day knocking down targets.

What’s nice about both of these Talo exclusives is that they’re reasonably priced. The Ruger Super Blackhawk Turnbull Edition has a very reasonable $995 MSRP. The Colt is more at $2,009 but that’s no more than other premium Colt pistols in production today. Talo could easily charge more for both.

If you’re looking for a pistol to celebrate an event, mark an anniversary or just to have something special of your own, maybe Talo has something for you.

I’ve always wanted a .44 magnum since Dirty Harry said, “… but being this is a .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question…”

Sweet looking Colt. It’s a good thing you can’t buy a new Colt in California (other than the Commander), since I would be sorely tempted.
