The Cobra Titan Derringer

The Cobra Firearms Company Inc.
https://www.cobrapistols.net/

The Cobra Firearms Company is one of the top 10 manufacturers of handguns in the United States. Located in Utah, all of their guns are 100% US made and every gun carries a lifetime warranty. More than anything, Cobra is known for affordability, but don’t mistake affordability for cheap. Cobra guns work, and work really well. I have long considered the access they give working Americans to affordable personal protection a strong harbinger of 2nd Amendment rights. Not everyone can afford a $500 pistol or revolver. Getting a reliable gun into the hands of a hard working, law abiding, American for half that price or a fraction of that price does us all good, makes us all safer, and brings into our fold another shooter who will stand up for our gun rights.

Until now Cobra has been exclusively focused on the personal protection market. Entry level women shooters in particular have taken to the Cobra line of guns with nothing short of a fervor (so much so that there is a new line of gun jewelry available now on the Cobra website).

Quite by accident Cobra discovered that Cowboy Action Shooters had taken to their line of derringers for the popular derringer side matches at SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) shoots, and out of that demand comes this new gun introduced at SHOT Show this year. It is called the Titan, and for this first year it is being marketed exclusively by Cimmaron Arms, a company specializing in the cowboy action market.

That doesn’t mean that the Titan isn’t a formidable personal defense weapon. It’s long barrels are made to accommodate the .45LC shell as well as .410 shot shells. Both have the same case head, and the combination of these shells has been very popular in personal defense weapons, including derringers, for many years. This is Cobra’s first foray into the monster derringer market, and we hope to be able to review this gun in the coming months.

Will the Titan barrel fit the Cobra big bore frame?

  • Salvador Monella April 23, 2019, 7:36 pm

We picked up a Cobra Titan in 45/410 (Branded Cimarron) and it opens on firing. Anybody else ever had this issue? It’s NIB and I’m firing SASS legal 45LC loads in it so they’re mild compared to store ammo. May have to take it back I suppose.

Thoroughly clean, removing all grease deposits. Locking post should be replaced. If that doesn’t do the trick, replace barrell.

  • KarVer March 28, 2019, 11:19 pm

Any Updates after all its been a couple years..

  • brian March 21, 2013, 2:39 pm

can the barrel fron a davis d22 be changed to a 410/45

    • David October 26, 2016, 8:53 pm

No, the 22 is on a smaller frame.

    • Chandler Frith December 15, 2023, 11:49 pm

No 22 is a smaller frame than Titan.

  • Peter July 10, 2012, 10:53 am

Um.. paid $385 for mine.. shipped to my dealer. Worth it!

  • Peter July 10, 2012, 10:45 am

I bought the Titan. ..and every type of available long colt and shotgun shells to try them out. It does hold the 3″ shotgun shells, and makes a pretty good kick when fired. (Varmint LC, single lead LC, Defender LC, bird shot, buck shot)… Easy to hold on to, but very loud. I love it. My only problem, is being able to hit anything with accuracy that’s 30 feet away. After all, she only has a 3 1/2″ barrel, and the pattern spread opens up pretty quickly. …All considered definitely a fun gun.

  • 1911 Guy June 11, 2012, 12:11 am

I’ve not handled the Titan but the 4.25 inch barrelBond Arms Ranger or snakeslayer is large enough to get a good solid grip. It’ll conceal in the hip pocket of a pair of jeans. I’ve carried a full size 1911 for 12 to 16 hours a day for six years and its big, heavy, frequently in the way and uncomfortable but its got the power factor. The most important thing in a carry gun (other than going bang when you pull the trigger) is having it on you when you need it. The second thing is to hit hard enough to cause a serious and immediate attitude change in your attacker. A two shot derringer is more apt to be carried all the time by most people. The 00 Buck or PDX1 ammo produces a devastating first shot at close range. If its available to take the 3″ shells with the extra load of shot its worth serious consideration.

    • Chandler Frith December 15, 2023, 11:53 pm

They have sold for as much as 1200$ at auction. Being no longer available, increases their collector value.

The most painful gun I ever shot in my life was an American Arms derringer in .44 magnum ! Take a hammer and hit the web of your hand, thats what the recoil feels like ! They make one even more powerful than that called the Alaskan Survival in .45/70 ! If a polar bear is on top of you, you can shoot him if you don’t break your wrist first !

  • Thomas April 1, 2012, 11:43 pm

Derringers are fun to shoot, “but” for my self-protection I do like something alittle more than just two shots ! I like both the Bond derringers because a person can change barrels, shoot both .22’s and .45’s out of the same gun ! I like the safey on the American Arms derringer over the Bond derringers ! I hope to see the new Cobra Titan derringer one day, I have owned the Cobra derringer in .38 special, an interesting gun for backup, but I do prefer either a small automatic Kel-Tec or LCP over any derringer ! Miss with one shot with the derringer and all you have is one more shot left !

Wow, you guys don’t know your derringers. The Bond rebounding hammer is reliable and proven. There’s a plunger system above the firing pins on the Titan that is shoddy at best. I’ve fired this gun and got nothing but misfires after about a dozen rounds. Nothing but clicks from that point on. It rattled in my hands and is nothing more than a cheap knock off. You shouldn’t complain about straight lines on a Bond because they use investment casting. Their raw parts aren’t machined they are poured metal. They machine the chambers and bores and all the holes on the frame, and the machining is excellent which is where they got a name for quality. As far as the Titan goes you should take a look at the real gun. The frame in the nice picture is a Bond frame, but that ain’t the crap that’s being produced. Haha, plunger, hahaha.

I looked at the Titan on 10/7/11 at Sportsmans Warehouse. Cost was $360. The grip pressed into the center of my palm amazingly well (better than my Cobra standard derringer). It is heavy weighing more than the LC9 I was also looking at. I do want to find someone who owns one and will let me shoot a few rounds through it before I buy because shooting even a small shotgun with one hand is a bit intimidating.

    • Administrator October 9, 2011, 4:30 pm

They haven’t been responsive in getting a gun.

  • Gary Durham August 16, 2011, 8:10 pm

  • Mike March 8, 2011, 11:23 pm

I have just about all of the cobra derringers now. the only one’s I don’t have is the 45/410 and the 380. I will have them before the year is up if they get the 410/45 out to the public. they all work very well and looks are great. my wife and I carry the 38spec. for hunting and concelment. will you please let me know when they are out to the public so my dealer can get me the 410/45 the 380 will come next. thanks.

    • Doug October 30, 2011, 5:15 am

was looking at a single shot derringer called cobra.nothing special about it. it was handed down to son from father after he passed away.
had a 410 shell with it.it opens up .one barrel.can slide a 45 or 410 in it. it opens just like a single shot -shot gun-
      nothing fancey about it.
any idea what this mite cost. didnt see any words titan on it.just cobra on hand grip .

    • ron October 18, 2013, 8:59 am

mike I carry a cobra 38 long bore—I sent it back to cobra & they chamfered the barrels so they would accept cci snake shot—-they wouldn’t chamber because of the blunt plastic cap—-I like this gun even more with its dual personality—–great company by the way

  • Crystal Routt January 26, 2011, 4:26 am

Wanted to see if someone could give me a round about price for this awesome weapon. I want to buy it for my husband..

    • Les April 5, 2011, 10:24 am

Crystal, don’t put a price on your husbands safety, buy two.

  • steve January 21, 2011, 11:09 pm

I agree with Mike, the geometry of the grip is not user friendly… maybe take it to a hammer mechanic and rework the grip.

  • Mike January 20, 2011, 10:58 pm

Obviously the combo of .410 shotgun and .45 Long Colt packs a considerable punch. But good luck hanging onto this weapon in a dark alley, when the adrenalin and fear are pumping. My prediction is, it’ll fly right out of your hand after the first shot, leaving you unarmed and wishing you had gone with something with a more manageable recoil, and a little more capacity.

    • Les April 5, 2011, 10:29 am

You really think so? I’ve never held one of these .410 derringers let alone fire one, but I suspect if I had to use one in a dark ally the confiscating officers would have to pry it from my trembling hand.

  • Bill January 20, 2011, 10:15 pm

Please let me know when this gun is released for sale…

  • Robert January 20, 2011, 9:56 pm

Looks more like Cobra took a Bond Arms and radiused the barrels and put a vent rib on it for the photos.

  • GLS January 20, 2011, 9:00 pm

I agree, the Titan looks like a clone of the Bond arms. As is their Shadow revolver nothing more than a clone of the J-frame Smith. I’m hoping the Titan will appear as good as it does in the pictures. Unlike Bond Arms, who must employ drunk gorillas to stamp their barrels because they are always crooked, the markings on the Titan actually appear to be straight. I’ve never understood how everyone brags about Bond Arms when I think their guns look like crap. I agree that they are reliable, and built like a tank, but their attention to detail is non-existent. If their is anything that is suppose to be machined in a straight line, it’s not. It’s about time someone came out with something to compete with them. American Derringer is good, but they are too proud of their guns. Although you can find them used for a decent price. I hope that the barrel release lever can either be reversed, or replaced with a left handed lever, as you can with the Bond Arms. I feel Cobra is really trying to get more respect and get away from the SNS(Saturday Night Special) label they have been known for. Good luck Cobra.

    • Administrator January 21, 2011, 12:52 am

They are all copies of the Remington derringer from cowboy days. The saturday night special moniker was created by anti-gunners and never had any validity whatsoever. All it did was serve to alienate people from being able to own guns they could afford.

  • Calvin January 20, 2011, 6:13 pm

This looks exactly like the Bond Arms derringer – what gives? It has exactly the same extractor, rebounding hammer system, trigger guard and barrel locking lever. Outside the contour of the barrels (which appear to attach the exact same way as the Bond – who I thought was the only vendor to offer removable barrels) they are exactly the same gun. I have always been impressed with everything about Bond (excluding their website…) and am wondering if they are sourcing at least the frames to Cobra…

    • Blaine April 4, 2012, 5:28 pm

I agree it does look a lot like the Bond Derringer but they are surely different guns. I’m surprised you don’t like their website it has gotten a LOT better over the last year or so.
I’m sure they are not sourcing the frames to Cobra.

  • Chris Reuter January 20, 2011, 4:08 pm
