The DP 12 Double Barreled Pump–SHOT Show 2015

Authors Jacob Epstein SHOT Show 2015
More Info on the DP12

The Dp-12 has been a topic of hot discussion in recent months. Some good, a lot of bad, and little ugly has been said but none of the talk was backed up with real world data. The snickering from within the industry had left me skeptical. After all–a bullpup shotgun has never been properly executed straight out of the gates. Bullpup shotguns have always been more of a novelty than realistic options for personal defense or hard use. Can the DP-12 break that mold?

With a bad taste in my mouth, I joked with my co-workers about giving the DP-12 a quick run through at range day. As our day began, I convinced the guys to head to the end of the line and give this behemoth a chance. After getting my hands on the gun, I quickly realized this wasn’t like the other bullpup shotguns on the market; this was something strangely different, and different in a great way.

Load from the bottom.

Load from the bottom.

The DP-12 is a shotgun that takes all the attributes of the competition and none of their flaws. It is easy to see its inspiration comes from the Kel-Tec KSG, but the similarities end with aesthetics. This gun leaves the KSG back in 2011 and brings the bullpup 12 gauge up to par. The most notable feature of the DP-12 is its dual barrels and loading ports. The gun uses a trigger mechanism modeled after a double barrel shotgun and inline feeding of a standard pump shotgun. The gun is effectively two pump shotguns welded together. Well maybe it isn’t that simple, but it’s easier to think of it that way.

The gun’s receiver is milled out of a solid billet of aluminum with separate inline loading channels. The one-piece aluminum construction makes the gun tougher, and less malfunction prone than its competition. Beyond its innovative loading system, the DP-12 is fully ambidextrous with ar-15 style rotational safeties, action lock releases, and its downward ejection path.

Most importantly the guns actually worked. Every stroke of the action, every shot we took worked. Shooting the gun is a different experience than any other weapon I have fired. The gun inspires double taps and requires both barrels to be fired before the action can be cycled. If you find yourself wanting both barrels loaded you can simply release the slide and refresh your chambers.

The $1400 price tag is justified by the capabilities of this weapon. Loaded, the gun holds 16 rounds of 2-3/4 twelve gauge shells. It has threaded barrels for chokes and stand-off devices. The stock houses a recoil reducing spring loaded recoil pad, and the gun has mounting surfaces for optics, grips, lights and lasers. All in all the DP-12 is a gun to watch for in the coming year. It is available exclusively through Cheaper Than Dirt, so don’t expect to see it at your local gun shop. If you’re in the market for a bullpup shotgun, make sure you give the DP-12 a second look.

[one_half]

Shooting the DP-12 isn't any more difficult than shooting any other 12 gauge. The second kick just comes a bit faster.

The slide is almost too fat to hold, so it comes with a forward grip.

I really wanted to read about the gun, unfortunately, just a bunch of people whining about cheaper than dirt …

  • rogertc1 May 22, 2016, 3:01 pm

I just ordered a tan one from Buds Guns

  • Will January 21, 2016, 12:26 pm

I do see a lot of positive comments about the DP 12 and I do agree with pretty much all except one. My wife has the DP 12 because she wants a real gun not a girl gun. With that being said when firing rounds through the gun at around six or eight shots if you don’t pull back hard to eject the shells it will jam up. The fix from the company is to flip the gun over: holding the release and bumping it on your leg which does work but not the best option if in a defense situation. In addition if you leave one shell unfired on the double barrel you cannot put the safety back on .

  • Rtut November 18, 2015, 9:51 pm

I have never seen any price at Cheaper than Dirt that wasn’t cheaper somewhere else. People who mislead right from the start, with the company name, can be counted on to be disreputable.

  • Eric July 19, 2015, 12:42 am

If you get one of these, you will not be disappointed. You can buy directly from Connecticut Shotgun/Standard Manufacturing who makes them in order to avoid vendors that are not on your preferred list. They shipped to my FFL in TX in just a few days and the breaching chokes I added on were in the box. This beautiful beast balances in one hand very well, cycles flawlessly, and is as simple as a hammer to operate. The two dozen water bottles we picked up on the way out to a buddy’s ranch did not stand a chance! I’m telling you, this DP-12 is fun, accurate, and was a very nice compliment to a lunch time of slinging led with an AR-15 and 7mm mag. Stay safe all!

  • Todd Nihill June 15, 2015, 7:11 pm

I agree with all my fellow gun enthusiasts. Not only did they gouge pricing they wouldn’t ship me a totally legal rifle to me because I lived in CT and we have to many restrictions. They are just as guilty of being unconstitutional as are the commy politicians that are housed in Hartford!!! F them Aholes.

  • starrman69 May 21, 2015, 10:16 pm

Looks interesting. I can wait until it gets off CTD and to decent vendors. No more gouging from CTD!

  • Bad Cracker May 11, 2015, 3:01 am

Pretty badasss shotgun, seems very well made, and throwing 16 one ounce slugs at a target guarantees I’ll be owning one.
However, there’s no way in this universe that I would give one penny of my business to “Cheaper Than your Mama”, EVER.
I will patiently wait until they are sold through another vendor, or buy a used one later, from a private party.
    CTD can eat dirt.

  • Mike May 5, 2015, 12:33 am

Give it dual triggers and I’ll buy it for that price, if not going with saiga 12

  • Josh March 25, 2015, 11:48 am

Ctd McKinney tx $2000 dpms sportical same day soonerstatepawn.com $600 I’m sure a small pawn shop in okc gets better prices from distributors 🙂 or maybe it is a business that isn’t ran by scum. When I saw the prices I told the sales rep I wasn’t aware I entered a museum. Was told it isn’t a museum which I replied nothing is for sale here unless federal .22lr $67 per 50rds & $2000 dpms is your ideal of a sale. To all u free market guys just understand this is the market telling ctd to go F themselves.

  • Chris March 24, 2015, 5:56 am

If you can’t fire both barrels at the same time then what’s the point

  • Anthony battistoni February 18, 2015, 1:40 pm

If cts is really manipulating ,revenue from all former customers will plummet.i hope their demise comes promptly ,since I like the dp-12.i can’t believe they have exclusivity on this weapons’ salesi

  • Tilikum Killer Assault Whale February 16, 2015, 10:17 pm

Those crying about CTD being called “price gougers” clearly did not see what they did. Their prices weren’t just higher due to the rush, they were some of the highest, and that was before they factored in shipping. A company their size cannot get better or even equivalent pricing than their smaller competitors? Riiight. So spare me the accusation of using left wing jargon B.S. IIRC, they initially said they were going to stop selling firearms thanks to the left. They changed their mind when people went ballistic AND they saw how much money they would lose.
I want companies to make money, but when they act like gutless, disgusting, greedy pigs, I have no desire to do business with them.

  • JP February 4, 2015, 2:47 pm

I can’t figure out WTF they were thinking making CTD their exclusive outlet. Screw that!

If these were available through other sellers, I’d definitely get one. No way I’d buy ANYTHING from CDT, though.

  • Bob Dittloff February 4, 2015, 11:51 am

Thanks for the info I was not aware of CTD’s reputation as I just started shopping online. Now I will not support them with my purchases and will shop around for another company to buy from. I won’t deal with non patriots that prey on the honest people trying to protect their families.

  • Steve February 4, 2015, 10:13 am

I saw the little sawed off prick that runs CTD at the SHOT SHOW a couple of years ago. He has an assistant that follows 2 steps behind and a little guy pulling his briefcase that stays at least 10 steps behind. He snapped his fingers at the little guy with the briefcase and he ran up with a business card and retreated quickly. What a prick. No wonder he gouges customers. Looked like he was about 5’5″ tall.

    • Administrator February 4, 2015, 10:15 am

LMAO his name is Michael Tenney and he isn’t that short. He does tend to have an entourage though.

    • SgtRed February 4, 2015, 12:37 pm

Liar. We all hate CTD already. Why make something up about the owner?

      • Steve February 4, 2015, 8:46 pm

Not made up there Hoss. He is a little prick. And you’re might brave with that liar word for a douche that has no info on the matter. No offense though. These forums are full of keyboard commando’s like yourself. Do be careful if you get outside of mommas basement. Calling a man a liar to his face might get your little a55 beat.

  • R. G. Montgomery January 26, 2015, 11:16 am

This reminds me a lot of the ‘double-barreled’ 1911 based pistol. It is a fine technical and engineering achievement, but so what?

What does it accomplish better than the Remington 870 I currently own? (Firing two shots at once is not an accomplishment; that is a waste of ammunition.)

    • JD August 9, 2015, 4:52 am

It auto select right left not combine fire

  • Kim January 25, 2015, 11:15 am

No to CTD. I don’t mind the higher prices at limited supply times (that’s one way to manage demand; no reason to discriminate against the people who have more money than time).
However, I have not forgotten they played with the anti-gunners. Haven’t spent a dime there or at Dick’s sporting goods since then. There was no rationale for those stances when we all know guns aren’t the problem. They hurt their own cause and we will not forget.

  • Drew January 25, 2015, 10:26 am

I was all YES! YES! YES! until I saw CTD had exclusive rights…then I was all NO! NO! NO! CTD will never get another dime of my money. Scumbags.

  • John Hines January 25, 2015, 12:46 am

Great! KEL-Tec has sold their guns for as low as $340, and the KSG for just $990. Of course CTD would figure out they could sell a gun that looks like it was ripped off the KSG, probably ½ as reliable as one, and sell it for $1,500. Standard Gun Manufacturing in CT should realize that they’ve made a big mistake by being involved in anything related to CTD. They should try to back out of that deal as quickly as possible, or they will most likely go bancrupt within the next year or so. They definitely hooked their trailer to the wrong horse this time. From the looks of their website, their may not bemuch of this company to start with. The only reason CTD still does business today, is because we need to keep reminding and telling the new gun people of their history. Eventually, they will go out of business. They will never silence us.

  • ejharb January 23, 2015, 3:05 pm

This should be on a t-shirt with the caption”send more zombies!” Lol

  • Richard January 23, 2015, 12:13 pm

I have no emotional problems with CDD. The company posted their prices and we customers were free to buy or not buy from them. Nobody got screwed, they asked for it.

  • gary January 21, 2015, 10:36 pm

Wouldn’t buy another thing from Cheaper than Dirt…..cheaper than dirtbags is more like it…

  • 223rem January 21, 2015, 9:46 pm

I hate to break it to you guys who keep harping on “Price Gouging”, but it is a Leftist phrase. It is not possible to do on discretionary purchases. If someone is willing to pay $100 for a AR mag, they must want it that bad. Let them have it. Don’t buy it. Market economics really works. It is a system that will bring supply to demand. Wal-Mart and other retailers that have kept the price of the .22s they get in inventory at “fair” prices have kept the .22 shortage going. The price people are willing to pay generally indicates where resources should flow to minimize shortages brought on by HOARDING. Now there is a phrase that we should all be familiar with regarding 22s. It is not evil either, just stupid.
I don’t usually buy from Cheaper Than Dirt because while their dirt may be cheap, they must use some gosh awful gas guzzler truck to move it. In other words, The total price for their products, including shipping, often exceeds the total price for the same products from another source. When that happens, I buy from the other source. Notice that market thing happening?
With respect to the shotgun…… really…. two barrels and two magazines and over 10 pounds empty!!!!!! I have run nearly 1000 rounds through a Kel-tec KSG with no mechanical failures, and thousands through many Beneli, Remington, Winchester and Fabarm shotguns with good results. I just don’t need something that complex and heavy.
Oh…. bye the way….. yea, I am an economist by training and trade.

    • Vic January 23, 2015, 8:19 am

I have never posted in a blog comment thread before but I had to in response to your post. Thank You for bringing some common sense and sanity to this thread. I find it hard to believe that the people who visit and shop here wouldn’t understand the basics of a free market and free market economy. CTD doesn’t manufacture products and then jump at the chance to gouge their customers. They distribute and resell products. That means they have to pay for those products as well and are subject to the same price fluctuations. They have a business to run. They aren’t there to be the low price savior for the country selling items below cost just to save you money. They have to compete on price and buying experience like everyone else.

I have purchased from CDT in the past and I will buy from them again. I have always found what I have been looking for with the exception of Ammo at times during the worst of the shortages. But, just because I found it on the site doesn’t mean I bought it. Sometimes I did. Most of the time I didn’t. One of the factors for me was overall cost including shipping and handling (and FFL costs for weapons). That is where CDT has lost some of my business. Buying from local stores often works out to be less expensive when you factor in shipping and FFL costs. Plus, I like to support my local businesses (especially firearms and ammo stores) because they represent an important option in the distribution chain. When those stores go away it becomes much easier to limit or eliminate the availability of firearms and ammo.

So, if you don’t want to buy from CDT don’t. But don’t expect them to be anything other then a store selling products. If you find a better price and buying experience elsewhere then go there. Feel free to tell CDT why they lost your business as well. If everyone here took the time to tell CDT that they bought items elsewhere (and be specific) because CDT’s overall pricing was way too high you would see CDT respond by being as aggressively competitive as they can be. Posting about how much you hate them in this thread isn’t going to change much. You are fooling yourself if you expect anything more from them.

  • akhntr January 21, 2015, 1:11 am

CTD isn’t getting my money either, I was interested in this until I read they were the exclusive distributor, I have plenty of other places to spend my money.

  • Weyroc January 21, 2015, 1:01 am

DP-12 stands for “double Penetration-12 inches” because that’s what the folks at CTD do to their customers…

  • Ruel Pitts January 20, 2015, 9:35 pm

The STREET SWEEPER looks gr8 and will do a much better job.

  • Ruel Pitts January 20, 2015, 9:32 pm

Give me the street sweeper any day. It would a better job and it looks gr8.

  • John January 20, 2015, 9:19 pm

I didn’t think I was the only who didn’t like CTD but damn, they have pissed off a lot of plinkers.

  • Down with CTD January 20, 2015, 7:47 pm

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks Cheaper Than Dirt are price gouging pirates. This shotgun intrests me but there’s no way I would buy this or anything else from CTD. I can’t believe they are still in business.

  • JD January 20, 2015, 7:12 pm

Anyone that chose CTD as the exclusive distributor doesn’t understand the target market for their product.

  • 2A Supporter January 20, 2015, 6:58 pm

Sorry, it obviously looks cool, but I would NOT like being stuck with that Double-Tap…….Pump……..Double-Tap………Pump timing at all. Also on my “Behind the Times” KSG, I can actually pick a tube of buckshot or a tube of slugs if I desire, and not get stuck on the “Double-Tap” train with only one type of shot-shell. THEN, when CTD was brought into the mix, I don’t care if it shoots platinum plated bricks. There is no chance in hades I would be buying.

  • WADE January 20, 2015, 6:51 pm

STDGUN.COM IS THE WEBSITE FOR STANDARD MFG.
PLEASE LET THEM KNOW WHY THESE WILL NOT SELL.

NO TO C.T.D. AND ANY OTHER GOUGERS OUT THERE!

  • jws January 20, 2015, 6:48 pm

    Hear Ye Hear Ye:
I’ve a friend in Ky (the state, not the jelly), who claims his prices on .22lr have increased minimally. He still sells the the cheap rn lead for less than half of what most places are charging these days. Supply and demand….seems simple enough. However, the hoarders are still hoarding, so the rest of us, who don’t have 10,000 rounds of ANY caliber, have to pay their price. Cheers on the CTD shipping as well. They have been gouging, in that respect, since I found their page — many years ago. Never made a purchase because of it.

  • ralph January 20, 2015, 6:39 pm

never mind the price gouging, have you ever been to the CTD store itself? dudes there were total jerks more than once. I woulda liked to punch them in the face, pissed me off that much. to hell with them.

  • ButchnJax January 20, 2015, 6:17 pm

I agree that CTD are crooks but so are most people in the retail business that see an opportunity to shove one up the ass of the average joe. I remember the 10 rd mag B.S. when local gun shops charged $90 for a $20 glock standard capacity mag now termed Hi Caps along with folding stocks and flash suppressors that were taboo. How about plywood and gas after Katrina. It’s no wonder our economy is in shambles. Anybody remember when Obama was elected 1st time? I do, every dealer that sold ARs doubled their price for them, remember ammo shortage and price gouging and availability problems. Let’s not forget guys. Things need to change for the better and we are the only ones that can do it. My ancestors fought for and built this country along with yours. Are we going to let the government and foreigners decide the fate of our great country and it’s people? I hope and pray, although not politically correct these days, that we refuse as a nation to allow it to continue. Sorry, got off the subject, screw CTD.. But that’s just one gun loving, all American, flag waving, God fearing, old farts opinion. Whew! feel better now… God Bless America, once again please, maybe we’ll get it right this time…….

    • ButchnJax January 20, 2015, 6:21 pm

      what does (awaiting moderation) mean???

      • Doc January 20, 2015, 9:34 pm

ButchnJax, it’s to keep us from doing to each other what we are all doing to the (well deserving) cheaper than dirt folks. The kind of ‘moderate’ the forum so for example the guy who called a mag a clip a bit ago doesn’t get a ton of crap dumped on him when the terms really are regional in usage — But CTD? It doesn’t even need to be cured or composted before the unburned barrels are turned over on them. Hell, **I’d** be the first volunteer in line if all I had to do was dump a barrel of crap on them all day long.

  • Seth January 20, 2015, 5:48 pm

Agreed. I just emailed the manufacturers customer service, and let them know CTD was a bad move.

  • Wood & Steel January 20, 2015, 5:16 pm

The KSG is absolutely a reliable kick-a** weapon.
It works. Period. The only thing I added to mine is an extended mag tube selector made/sold by High Tech Custom Concepts (www.hightechcc.com) which is made from aircraft aluminum and really is a great improvement.
As for CTD…They can go suck eggs. I’ll never gave the thieves a dime and never will.

  • Buford January 20, 2015, 4:40 pm

CROOKED than DIRT!!!! They shot themselves in the both feet!
Letting them have exclusive rights to their product will prove to be detrimental to sales .
Remember what Grandma said ,Never put all your eggs in one basket.
    Buford

  • DWRifleman January 20, 2015, 4:03 pm

I was interested until I got to the part about being available exclusively from CTD. Forget it! CTD can keep them!

  • CTD (we) call them d... January 20, 2015, 3:51 pm

Would be better suited as an air soft toy. Bet it jams more than Smuckers..I guess that why Smucks have the marketing contract..

  • Russ January 20, 2015, 3:45 pm

Thanks for the review, I like seeing new designs.
Didn’t blow my skirt up though.
I can run my 870 pump more efficiently and with more versatility than that SG.
I can also convert it to a Bullpup design with ease. (only $300.)
Other than the guy in the beginning who looked like he was doing surgery on it, I didn’t see anyone reload or toss in an alternate shell
I love my reliable Remington 870, and for the price of a DP-12, I could own four.
I’ll jump when I see an SG we can buy that equals the AA-12 (and I’ll still keep my 870)

  • Cold Day In Hell!! January 20, 2015, 3:08 pm

The name says when I’ll buy CTD again. I’ll never forget their price gouging then and what they are still doing now!! Don’t know who “DP” is but they better get a clue that they hitched to the wrong wagon!! You couldn’t get the price low enough to get me to buy from Cheeseeaters and Dirt. Sounds like a new gun manufacturer about to go out of business.

  • barnes January 20, 2015, 2:42 pm

If I have to buy from cheaper than dirt ripoff scumbags, hide when it is time stand up for gun rights, they can keep the double barrel. Rip off dirt bags priced gouged on ammo and magazines worst than anyone I can remember, I would buy the double barrel but no way am I buying anything from cheaper than scum.

  • Charles January 20, 2015, 2:41 pm

What’s wrong with KSG? Simple. They weren’t paying for the review. There is another bullpup 12, whose name escapes me at the moment. It is single barrel with two magazine tubes like KSG, but the tubes are above the barrel. It also has a slightly more versatile feeding scheme than KSG.

    • Administrator January 20, 2015, 2:46 pm

Why do people turn into self righteous aholes online? This isnt a review and nobody paid for it regardless The KSG is a great gun and much better than the UTAS u cant remember.

      • SansJeux January 20, 2015, 3:08 pm

Glad to hear this. It took 3 years to get a KSG, due to availability/recall and the price which was ridiculous. Finally got one last year. 🙂

        • Administrator January 20, 2015, 3:17 pm

There was never a recall kn the KSG.

          • SansJeux January 20, 2015, 4:42 pm

I’m pretty sure they did a dealer recall. They had to fix a feeding problem found in 2011 and didn’t get them back out until 2012. I saw the press release back in 2010/11 and it took me 3 years to find one that wasn’t selling for $1800 when the MSRP was $800. I finally got mine for $1K.

      • James Lee July 11, 2015, 12:40 pm

Says the KSG fanboy who has to use the name “Administrator” to try and add legitimacy to his slanted opinion posts.

        • Administrator July 12, 2015, 10:10 am

Says the fidiot who probably has never even shot a bullpup shotgun.

  • dave January 20, 2015, 2:40 pm

I really want to buy this DP12 but not from CTD. Is there any other options?

    • Administrator January 20, 2015, 2:42 pm

they probably couldnt get distibutors to take them and ctd was the only option because they dont care if they work or not lol

  • early ray January 20, 2015, 2:39 pm

Interested in shotgun; won’t do business with CTD. Post Sandy Hook scammers should be run out of business. They chose to cash-in at the expense of hard working Americans trying to exercise 2nd amendment rights. Now they should take the money and run.

  • Da Sarge January 20, 2015, 2:37 pm

Most colossal marketing mistake since New Coke! Seriously, what was the manufacturer thinking? If CTD was the LAST PLACE ON EARTH to buy item X, I’d rather do without it! Their business model is seriously flawed! Absolutely unforgiveable!

  • Beanzr1 January 20, 2015, 2:32 pm

I like this shotgun, something my son would enjoy and I see many advantages over the KSG.
But as soon as I saw CTD, done, noway I would consider this. Too bad, the manufacturer hopefully will see they are in a deal with the devil. I will NEVER do a dime’s worth of business with Cheaper Than Dirt again! EVER!!!!

  • Robert January 20, 2015, 2:25 pm

Couldn’t agree more on the CTD comments, but additionally would’ve been interested if they had made it a mere half an inch longer, 29.5 is too short for California! Not that CTD would even ship to a CA FFL!

    • James Lee July 11, 2015, 12:36 pm

This gun is totally California legal, bought mine in a Cali B&M, they order them from Connecticut Shotguns not CTD.

  • ned January 20, 2015, 2:23 pm

silly junk. for that money you buy a benelli.

    • SansJeux January 20, 2015, 3:06 pm

Are you referring to the KSG or the shotgun in the article?

    • James Lee July 11, 2015, 12:34 pm

A Benelli that breaks down every 500 rounds or less, enjoy. I used to part time in a gun shop in northern California when I was stationed there. Every duck/ goose season we had a near constant line of hunters trying to get their broke ass Benellis fixed so I they could get back to hunting with the number one problem being broken firing pins, many of them even tried to trade in for much cheaper shotguns that worked.

  • SansJeux January 20, 2015, 2:22 pm

    What’s wrong with the KSG?

    • Eric M January 20, 2015, 2:58 pm

Let me start by saying that I have never fired the KSG so my comment is based solely on what I have seen online and what a couple of folks have told me. You have to cycle the pump very aggressively or it will jam almost every time.

      • Administrator January 20, 2015, 3:16 pm

        absolute horseshit. The KSG rocks.

      • RG January 20, 2015, 9:17 pm

Agree about CTD, don’t buy there anymore. Their prices suck but their shipping charges double suck. Disagree about the KSG. Own one and has never fail me. Shot all kinds of ammunition through it. Now that said, if you are going to pump it like a sissy, is like shooting a .45 and not locking your wrist. Agree also with someone’s comment about not being able to select between tubes to load buck or slugs. I hate companies like CTD that take advantage of their customers during hard times, you can tell their true grit. Also, I hate copycats that don’t have the imagination and innovation of creating a new concept but copy one with a couple of improvements and charge outrageous prices. I am pro-competition and entrepreneurial success but this company is starting a product on the wrong foot by stepping into CTD.

  • James January 20, 2015, 2:12 pm

CTD certainly will never get any business from me or anyone I know. We need to print up all these e mails and send them to the manufacturer. If I knew how I would and maybe they would reconsider the type of company they keep!

  • Sluggo Lalanne January 20, 2015, 1:54 pm

I don’t purchase anything from Cheaper Than Dirt anymore after their price gouging during “the crunch” years ago. I’ve never seen anything like that. They’re ridiculous.

  • Kimber January 20, 2015, 1:40 pm

  • Delete them as fast as I can January 20, 2015, 1:30 pm

CTD..I delete their ad’s as fast as I can, I will never give them a dime again.
Looks like they will never sell this shotgun to anyone, and if they did CTD will mark it up X’s 3 before they sell it.
My guess CTD will put everyone they get on GunBroker and never sell one honestly to a retail customer.

    • Administrator January 20, 2015, 1:32 pm

Well of they want to sell them theyd put them on GunsAmerica lol.

  • Louis January 20, 2015, 1:25 pm

Right after Sandy Hook I went to Armscor and bought .22LR bricks for $19.95. Shortly thereafter they weren’t selling directly and seems CTD had them for $100.00 . 5x the price is right.

  • I won't buy from ctd January 20, 2015, 12:35 pm

I hope guns america reads a few of these post in response to the way we fill as gun buying Americans, and then passes this info along to the guys who made the deal with cheaper than dirt to sell their dp-12 and then maybe, just maybe they will see the error of their ways and find a better wat to get these to market.

  • Thamorg January 20, 2015, 12:34 pm

CTD was a ok company, some 10+ years ago, now they are the biggest F____ing crooks I have ever tried to deal with. Crooks, Thieves, A-holes… Call them what you will, but I will never try to deal with them again. No matter how cool there products are.

  • Frankrightbrain January 20, 2015, 12:24 pm

The test video is misleading as it appeared the shooter only used low brass(low power)shells in 2 3/4inch. A fair test would use high brass, 3 inch, and 3 1/2 inch if chambered for it, in multiple brands and show effective range and patterns with different shot size.

    • David hamilton June 20, 2016, 4:11 am

I think the article stated that it is only chambered in 2 3/4″.

  • Vernon Stanton January 20, 2015, 12:23 pm

I’m glad to see that everyone else was keeping track of the websites that screwed us during the run on ammo. Cheaper Than Dirt is the biggest rip-off of the guns and ammo world.
I wish I knew who the manufacturer of this shotgun is. They are going to get screwed because of THE BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES OF CHEAPER THAN DIRT. I was keeping track of which websites that were screwing us, and CTD was one of the worst. I hope the manufacturer of this gun is able to get out of whatever contract they have with CTD. I just read another article that was posted back in October, and the price they were quoting was $1,000 which is much less expensive than the $1,400 quoted here. I’m sure that CTD had everything to do with that. It’s a shame that a website that uses a name that implies that they will have good prices, rips us off instead of offering good prices.
My kids and I shoot in silhouette competitions, so I have to have .22 ammo in order to compete, so I kept track of which websites kept reasonable prices during the ammo crunch, and there were 3 that I never had problems with. Killoughshootingsports was good for ammo, and budsgunshop and grabagun were good for guns. I’m sure there were more that didn’t screw us, but I ordered from those 3 throughout the whole ordeal, and they never waivered from their good prices.

  • ctd no way January 20, 2015, 12:16 pm

I’d never buy one from Cheapskates Eat Dirt. Price gougers can eat all their old MRE’s. Maybe one will show up on GunBroker or Armslist.

    • Kim January 25, 2015, 11:20 am

Retailers have 2 choices when there are shortages: sell a limited supply to a few people or sell to who wants it most by raising the prices. Someone who REALLY wants the ammo and is working overtime might be very happy to know where to get it because he doesn’t have time to cruise Walmart or websites every day. Obviously, some people were paying it or they would have dropped their prices. That’s how the market works. If you think it doesn’t, manufacture and/or retail it yourself.

      • Monty February 24, 2015, 1:23 am

There is a difference between supply and demand pricing vs gouging. CTD tried to take advantage of it’s customers. Everyone raised their prices, as expected, but CTD wanted to f**k us without even giving us a kiss. Well, now they can kiss my a**.

  • Gunny January 20, 2015, 11:27 am

Not as long as its with CTD, CROOKS !!!!

    • Richard H Schneider January 20, 2015, 11:51 am

I totally agree. I will never order from CTD!

  • Wolf January 20, 2015, 11:24 am

I completely agree with the CTD comments , I’ve bought one item from them & that was enough to learn my lesson when they charged me three times the shipping of what anyone else did .

  • Alan January 20, 2015, 11:20 am

Problem is you have to fire both barrels before you can cycle the gun, the advantage of being able to load buckshot in one tube and slugs in the other is gone.

    • jim July 11, 2015, 12:24 pm

This is actually misstated in the article. The slide release located directly in front of the trigger will allow you to recycle and refresh both barrels. The concerns here about the weight of the gun here are also unfounded, the bullpub design keeps the gun close to the body and reduces the weight felt drastically, I can swing this gun around easier than my tactical 500. I didn’t buy mine from CTD, check Connecticut shotgun, and I do not support CTD. While we are all talking about how much we remember, lets remember that Kel-tec not that long ago was famous for making and selling some of the biggest POS guns on the planet. Honestly the KSG feels like a cheap plastic toy in the hands compared to this well made gun. Gotta love all the people who have never even laid eyes on one in person let alone shot one and have already condemned it just because CTD sells it. How many people complaining about the price own a $1200 Benelli that breaks a firing pin every 500 rounds that they love?

  • Scrapnastie January 20, 2015, 11:09 am

I’ll wait for one on gunbroker if I get bit by one… CTD are crooks

    • Jeff May 24, 2015, 6:05 pm

Should you wait for one on Gun Broker, you will only be buy from a person that purchased from CTD already, and you will pay more. I wanted one of these badly, but now seeing CTD is the only place to acquire one I guess I will go the Keltec route.
      Jeff

  • MAC CARVER January 20, 2015, 11:07 am

As much as I want to purchase a couple of these new shotguns, I refuse to purchase from Cheaper than Dirt due to their raping of ammo buyers when ammo was much harder to get thanks to the anti gun people. I will wait and hopefully the manufacture will realize that they made a mistake by giving Cheaper than Dirt an exclusive to sell this great shotgun. When the manufacture wakes up to realize they picked the wrong company to do business with and open the gun to other gun brokers, I and thousands of others who refuse to buy from the dishonorable gun geeks will gladly purchase from a decent and honest gun and ammo broker.

I seriously doubt that Cheaper Than Dirt would approach a manufacturer to represent their product without acquiring a contract limiting them to be the sole representative. I don’t know much about their price gouging tactics, but that would not supreme me. “For the love of money is the root of all evil”; quotation from the great almighty Jehovah-jereh.

  • djw January 20, 2015, 10:58 am

Cheaper than Dirt has always been, in my opinion, the place NOT to buy anything since day one. Price gouging and not a friendly place to buy. I always feel overdue for a silkwood shower after leaving there.

    • Will June 4, 2015, 3:22 pm

Silkwood shower. That has to be the most appropriate comparison about dealing with undesirable entities I have ever heard. Unfortunately I’m not sure many people will understand the reference.

I won’t buy from CTD. I have a coworker that saw first hand how that company did business. They canceled his backordered ammo order after Sandy Hook saying they were out of stock. Then immediately posted that same ammo as being in stock but at 5x the price.

  • CSmith January 20, 2015, 10:18 am

    CTD,

You may may have a brand (image) issue to deal with. What say ye?

    C

    • K January 20, 2015, 10:43 am

Ctd are definintly a mistake…they are scabs. Worse kind of company. They will never get anymore of my business. Price gauging would be the nicest way to put it.

  • thomas 67 January 20, 2015, 10:18 am

Strange that the linked page at CTD says “product is no longer available” and not ‘out of stock’ or ‘in stock soon.’ Not that I would want to give them my business, that is.

  • previouslypope January 20, 2015, 10:15 am

+1 on CTD being the wrong decision. I’d be interested in one from a different vendor. My only other concern would be the weight. It looks massive. To heavy for tactical purposes?

    • David January 20, 2015, 6:21 pm

  • never forget January 20, 2015, 9:24 am

Possibly, a great gun but a colossal mistake to let the price-rapists at Cheaper than Dirt, have exclusive rights to sell. Does anyone remember how Cheaper than Dirt was THE biggest price-gouger of the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting? .22lr ammo for 50 cents a round and magazines for 8-10 times the normal price? Prices went up all around but NO ONE, NO ONE had prices as outrageous than those a-holes at “Dirty not Cheap”. I will never buy another item from a company that takes pleasure in royally screwing the very people that put them in business. Especially, when they were doing this with items that were possibly critical to self-defense and survival (and they knew it hence their enjoyment of watching people suffer, hoping to have once loyal customers pay their insane prices).

If you want to buy a DP-12 shotgun, wait and let your message be heard – we won’t support an enemy of those in need. We won’t give a dime to Cheaper than Dirt.

    • Administrator January 20, 2015, 9:30 am

      +1 on that.

      • JAMES C TURNER January 20, 2015, 4:42 pm

I would not buy from Cheaper than Dirt even if they were giving it away they would probably charge 2000 dollars to ship it..

        • John January 21, 2015, 2:23 am

Your right about that, I’ll never buy anything from them rapists.

        • Jason February 5, 2015, 11:59 pm

I agree. I stopped doing business with them when they went through their gouging stent on ammo. They have actually been a little cheaper on some items I was recently looking for but I did NOT buy from them. I paid a little more from someone else that did NOT gouge during the ammo scare. Cheaper Than Dirt lost a customer for life and I am sure I am not the only one.

          • A hole April 6, 2015, 8:54 pm

Cheaper Than Dirt is trash. They have been teasing the DP-12 for more than a year now too. It’s funny how last year the makers of the DP-12 said that the weapon’s MSRP would be $800 and CTD is selling it for $1400!!! Seriously? I have lost a lot of respect for this website for so shamelessly plugging a product that has been unproven. The DP-12 was supposed to come out last August, but because of so many issues the weapon system had it got pushed back to today. The company that makes it is a joke due to all the issues they’ve had and due to making it a Cheaper Than Dirt exclusive. I’d rather pay twice as much and support a local gun store than support the gougers at CTD.

    • Jack January 20, 2015, 9:48 am

I agree with previous comment. If CTD didn’t screw you on the price they overcharged on the outrageous shipping charges that are much higher than anyone’s. I have tried to do business with Dirt-tier than Cheap several times in the past and ended up not placing the order when I got to the shipping charges.

      • David hamilton June 20, 2016, 4:25 am

EXACTLY! I discovered how they were padding their shipping rates over 10 years ago and told them why I would never buy from them again. And I never have, never will. Life is too short to deal with ‘Lower than Dirt’ people.

    • Jay January 20, 2015, 10:40 am

Agreed about CTD, hopefully this will become available through other vendors. To address the weight questions, it is listed at 10.5 lbs empty so its heavy but not crazy. Looks like a fun shotgun regardless

    • RH January 20, 2015, 11:15 am

Yep, I am right there with you, I will never do business with them again either. What they did with prices and how they did it was a big middle finger to the shooting community and I will not support any business guilty of excessive price gouging like CTD was during that time.
Awesome shotgun, worst retailer to represent it. Sometimes you are as guilty as the company you keep.

      • Captain Eric February 25, 2015, 10:27 am

I have to agree with you on the “CtD” coments. They recently screwed me over. If I would have know about precious gauging I would have nevernplaced the order. I will never buy anything at cheap little sluta again.

    • Brian Meyette January 20, 2015, 12:12 pm

My thoughts exactly, as soon as I read the part about CTD. I was interested in the gun until I read that. I will never forget CTD’s actions after Sandy Hook. AR mags went from $15 to $60 overnight. Then they posted messages at each of their gun listings – “we don’t sell any guns over the internet” As this poster says, NEVER FORGET.

Plus the fact that, even with the above aside, being a CTD item automatically cheapens it and makes me wonder about quality and reliability.

      • Administrator January 20, 2015, 12:18 pm

While we were in the trenches getting people to sign pro gun whitehouse petitions they ran the other way.

    • Bill January 20, 2015, 12:30 pm

Your exactly right, I guess dirt really isn’t that cheap anymore! But their prices never have come back down to pre Sandy Hook!

    • Patrick January 20, 2015, 12:58 pm

Cheaper Than Dirt is the enemy of gun owners. Absolute ripoffs. The DP12 is cool, but not cool enough for me to buy from CTD.

      • Mike January 20, 2015, 3:13 pm

Please post the manufacturer, I’d also like to contact them. Thanks!

        • Scott February 10, 2015, 7:17 pm

Standard manufacturing company. They are out of Connecticut

        • A hole April 6, 2015, 8:58 pm

Standard Manufacturing is a company with disdain for the 2A community. They are trying to make a buck off of people with a gimmick. The author of this is incredibly ignorant and misleading for saying the DP-12 is better than the KSG. The DP-12 was supposed to be released over a year ago and is full of problems. Being that it is sold on CTD makes it even worse. Standard Manufacturing shows they can care less about gun owners by making it a CTD exclusive.

    • jared January 20, 2015, 2:43 pm

    • never forget January 20, 2015, 2:53 pm

Wow, I thought no one remembered about the real nature of the sh+t-bags at Cheaper than Dirt. I feel proud to be amongst gun owners that are not a forgetful bunch and stand for what is right. I felt often that I was the only one that remembered the “pond scum” that owns and runs Cheaper than Dirt. They are not worth the air they breathe.

Well, do your homework but here is more info on the gun. It is made be Standard Mfg. Co., LLC. They have a direct website and way to order the gun here http://store-jxztkc.mybigcommerce.com/.

The manual for the gun is here http://store-jxztkc.mybigcommerce.com/content/Manual.pdf.

Made in New Britain, CT. (wtf??? Isn’t CT the biggest enemy of this kind of firearm???)
      http://store-jxztkc.mybigcommerce.com/dp-12-faq/

Price from them is $1395 but I suspect this gun will be selling street price for under $1K once the hype settles down, provided it is a reliable and well-built firearm. The thing to remember is if you MUST have one now, contact the manufacturer at this site and MAKE SURE Cheaper than Dirt doesn’t get a dime out of it. You may want to voice your feelings about who they are letting sell it. One possiblity is that the owner of the company is also an owner of Cheaper than Dirt. In that case, i don’t care if the gun shoots nuclear fireballs with no re-loading. I wouldn’t give Dirtier than Cheap the pleasure of the sale.

Amen to these comments! I was a long time CTD customer until I watched them jack up prices higher than even those individuals on GA and GBroker. The straw that broke this camels back…$100 PMags. Supply and demand, free market…I get it, but what they did went far, far beyond that.

I hope they made a killing from price raping thier loyal customers to offset the long term loss of those disgusted by thier practices.

    • ScottyJ January 20, 2015, 3:44 pm

I remember well the cheaper than dirt gouging. Haven’t purchased from them since. That aside, I wonder why this platform was seen as viable vs semi-auto, magazine fed platforms? This seems to have twice the weight in barrel and tube magazine as necessary.

      • Bruce A. Frank January 27, 2015, 3:51 am

I have to agree that the double barrel is interesting, but a single barrel action fed by twin magazines seems a more useful tool. Alternating feed from two (or three?) magazines seems no more complicated that the single trigger system on this double barrel. I like the bullpup design and the bottom ejection.

I never knew this about CheaperThanDirt. Did the any of the big box stores, midwayusa, or other online firearm/ammo retailers jack there prices up like CheaperThanDirt? Who should i give my business to?

    • Jingo Bells January 24, 2015, 3:53 pm

Thanks for bringing up this subject.
Sorry you took the prices in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting as a reason to slam the reputation of the Cheaper Than Dirt people. I would like you to consider the fact that there is always a rush to get needed supplies of things after any disaster. The result of not raising prices is that people often rush in and buy up the entire supply, and this is often for the purpose of reselling at an even higher price, or simply responding to panic by hoarding an unrealistic supply. Both of these common reactions make supplies unavailable for those who really need them. Raising the prices helps to slow down both of those reactionary responses and helps to keep some inventory on the shelf. Without the law of supply and demand, we would all be at the mercy of short supply and ridiculously high prices a good part of the time. The only other objection is to resent the opportunity for a retailer to make a higher profit. When we arbitrarily limit what any business can make of their efforts, we are moving closer to socialism which always results in severe and constant shortages of supply.
I have a friend that immigrated (Escaped) from Czechoslovakia years ago when everything was controlled “to be fair and protect the people”. His Mother usually got in line at the grocery store at about four in the morning to try to get through the door at eight when they opened for business. Even so, the store was usually sold out by nine, so she did this every day, usually starting on Tuesday, until she finally got what they needed for a decent meal on Sunday!
Please take it easy on our gun dealers. The Government is trying to put them out of business as it is!
      We need them.

      • John January 25, 2015, 10:36 am

You must be connected to CTD. Everyone knows prices went up across the board after Sandy Hook, but CTD gouged a good 50x more than others as shown by examples already given. Plus they knee jerked and suspended sales. They said at first they were reconsidering their sales of gun related products, but when the reaction of their previous buyers nearly put them out of business, they quickly changed tune, saying it was to prepare their inventory for the coming rush. BS. The rest of what you posted was just after the fact apologetic excuses. Yes, we have the free market, as we should and no one is suggesting there should have been price controls, but the free market also allows the consumer to choose who they do business with and put price gougers out of business.

        • jeff February 18, 2015, 6:48 pm

Too bad i want the gun but will never buy anything from cheaper than dirt again.

    • thefrontiersman February 13, 2015, 2:48 am

Sir, I respectively disagree. “Price gouging” is the free market’s way of preserving the supply in an emergency, such as the Sandy Hook panic. It is simple supply and demand economics.

    • jeff February 18, 2015, 6:36 pm

Totally agree. On that day in 2012 that ctd tripled their prices, they lost me forever as a customer. They crossed the line and there is no way to come back. The shotgun is interesting and I would be buying or ordering one, but not from ctd. I can live without it. I will let CSMC/ standard manufacturing know why I will not buy it. Maybe if enough people avoid it from ctd the manufacturer may make a change.

Absolutely, dead-on accurate assessment. After looking for 9mm and finding it on CTD for .75/rd and up, I vowed to never buy from those scumbags ever again. I sent them a scathing email, which was most likely ignored.
Too bad though, the DP-12 looks like a nice shotgun. If it is ever available direct, from Standard Manufacturing, I will probably pick one up.

I am with you. This was also when i lost my last ounce of respect for Lindsay Graham & John McCain who voted for the anti-gun legislation to go to the floor for vote rather than killing it in process. Do not buy from Cheaper than Dirt! That said, this shotgun really does look promising. I am more habituated to double barrels than pumps, and would not have a problem shucking after every other shot, and i can really see how that 2 tubes feeding 2 barrels should be a lot less problem prone than 2 tubes feeding one barrel. The only feature i would want added here is 2 triggers, so that the double barrel feature can be fully utilized.

A friend of mine bought the DP-12 and brought it to my house this weekend to shoot. It was very impressive shooting all of the shells without a misfire or a failure to feed. One thing that stood out is that it’s quite heavy but not too heavy to manage and the recoil was not bad. It’s a nice shotgun. I don’t know if it’s worth $1300 or $1400 dollars for me to own one.

I indeed remember CHEAPER THAN DIRTS pay for play days. Gouge is correct, the only places the prices were higher were the individuals that stock piled early at $15 a brick and then sold at $70 a brick.
