FreedomToons released a real winner this week. It’s another pro-gun cartoon, humorously titled, “The Good Guy with a Gun: Total Myth I Swear” (see below). And it completely destroys the narrative propagated by anti-gunners that defensive gun uses (DGUs) are non-existent.
Don’t believe that anti-gunners blatantly lie about the fact that good guys with guns save lives? Consider this 2017 New Yorker piece from longtime contributor Adam Gopnik. He says, with a straight face mind you, “Guns, however, have an almost entirely symbolic function. No lives are saved. No intruders are repelled. The dense and hysterical mythology of gun love has been refuted again and again.”
Refuted? Really? Hmmm… Nothing could be further from the truth! As the cartoon so cogently points out, a 2013 study commissioned by the CDC and executed by The National Academies Institute of Medicine and National Research Council found that DGUs are a “common occurrence.”
“Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008,” states the paper.

To unpack that, a government study commissioned by a historically pro-gun control agency acknowledged that good guys with guns defend themselves, their families and their property at least as often as bad guys perpetrate crimes with guns! That’s not a refutation of DGUs, that is an emphatic validation!
Gopnik’s notion that “no lives are saved” and “no intruders are repelled” is insanity! And coming from a decorated and widely-read journalist, no less, is tragic. People actually believe this guy!
Thankfully, and I mean this sincerely, we have FreedomToons to help set the record straight. Truth be told a lot of the work pro-gun media does to disseminate the facts and to educate the non-gun owning public gets overlooked or written off as “biased” or “preaching-to-the-choir”-style journalism. Which is why it’s so important to promote the work of outsiders when they get it right. Be it traditional media or nontraditional media. Be it CNN or a cartoon channel on Youtube. For someone to believe that good guys with guns don’t save lives, they would have to also believe home invasions never happen and guns don’t exist. The huge number of homes with guns inside and no one has ever broken into one. Or did they never think to use the gun? The lack of common sense necessary to believe this is shocking. Either that or they just aren’t capable to think critically and without bias as to what an armed person faced with a home intruder would do to protect him/her self and their family.
Oh these are Democrats who think it’s a myth…makes perfect sense.

Gopnik either doesn’t check the statistics or DOESN’T want to include them in his “journalism” because they don’t fit his narrative.
A smart attorney once told me, “Ross, there is no right or wrong in this world – merely perspective.” We all have our own perspective and fortunately (or unfortunately) the First Amendment assures us the right to freedom of expression. I find, however, the hatred in your words curious and somewhat disturbing. Fanatic. There are always two sides to every issue and you have yours. Fanatics, extremists and others determined to impose their will upon you, however, might be the people you need to defend yourself against. And that’s my perspective.
