Virginia Governor Creates More Gun-Free Zones Via Executive Order

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors Current Events S.H. Blannelberry This Week

Via executive order, Gov. Terry McAuliffe created more gun-free zones in Virginia this week, the Richmond Times Dispatch reports.

That’s right, McAuliffe, an active and enthusiastic gun control supporter, signed an executive order that bans firearms in government buildings controlled by the executive branch, including but not limited to Department of Motor Vehicles locations and Virginia Employment Commission offices. It does not include buildings controlled by the legislature, e.g. the Capitol or General Assembly offices.

“We must take every precaution to protect our citizens and state employees from gun violence,” wrote McAuliffe in the executive order. “We cannot wait until a tragedy occurs to decide to address it. Prevention requires us to address areas of concern before they are realized.”

“Accordingly, I hereby declare that it is the policy of the Commonwealth that open carry of firearms shall be prohibited in offices occupied by executive branch agencies, unless held by law enforcement, authorized security, or military personnel authorized to carry firearms in accordance with their duties,” continued the governor.

“Within 30 days of the date of this Executive Order, the Director of the Department of General Services (DGS) shall issue guidance prohibiting carrying weapons openly in offices occupied by executive branch agencies,” concluded McAuliffe.

The ban on carrying firearms in government buildings was part of larger initiative to “keep guns out of dangerous hands.” In addition to creating more gun-free zones, McAuliffe is putting together a task force that will focus on gun crime, authorizing the attorney general to coordinate with local prosecutors to bring criminal cases against firearm law offenders, establishing a tip line for illegal gun activity, requiring tracing on every firearm used in a crime, and encouraging judges and prosecutors to seek gun forfeiture in felony and other cases.

Reactions from pro-gun Republicans were mixed. Many were supportive of the idea of ramping up prosecution for gun crimes while also voicing skepticism about the efficacy of a gun-free zone.

“As we have seen again and again, such policies leave law-abiding citizens vulnerable to acts of senseless violence rather than protecting people from such tragedies,” House Deputy Majority Leader C. Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) told the Richmond Times Dispatch.

“We will review this policy during the 2016 legislative session and take the appropriate action to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens,” Gilbert added.

Meanwhile, gun-control organizations are hoping that more governors take similar actions to foist gun control on their respective states.

“Most significantly, Gov. McAuliffe is showing other governors around the country they don’t have to wait on often stubborn legislatures to fill gaps in enforcement and other key areas of gun safety,” said Peter Ambler, director for American for Responsible solutions.

Is this clown of a governor going to put magnetometers and security staff to run them in every office building used by the Commonwealth of Virginia? He’s just another Clinton fan-boy posturing for the left-wing of the Democrat Party. He wants to be your next president, folks. Let’s hope he grows a brain before that happens.

  • Larry Koehn October 21, 2015, 4:32 pm

Well isn’t he a great governor for providing more gun free hunting zones for psychopaths and sociopaths running around Va. I am sure that if any of those sickies go over the edge they will use one of his gun free zones to kill in. DemoRAT, politically correct, moron.

Terry McAuliffe is nuts! If you’ve ever heard him speak (Fox News) you would know his crackers are already crumbled.
Ken Cuccinelli received no help from the RNC as run by Speaker of the House John (Boner) Boehner and Mitch McConnell and the rest of the establishment Republicans when he for governor of Virginia. They would rather have a Democrat zombie nut case win than a Tea Party Candidate.
I lived in Virginia for while and I was totally appalled to hear Virginians would vote for a low life like McAuliffe
So happy I’m in Texas one f the free states.

Gov. Terry McAlliffe will get exactly what he he doesn’t want – more areas ripe for gunfire from felonious assailants.

  • jimonthebeach October 20, 2015, 12:59 am

So Terry McAuliffe is now dictating laws for the Commonwealth of Virginia? How does that work? I guess this is a trick he learned from Obama to get around uncooperative legislators who happen to believe in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. This “executive order” will only serve to make Democrats and other gun control wing-nuts feel good and make criminals out of otherwise law-abiding citizens. Is McAuliffe so stupid that he believes a criminal bent on mass murder is going to obey his silly “executive orders?” Since criminals don’t obey real laws; it’s not likely they’ll obey McAuliffe’s nonsensical executive orders. Virginians would do well to mount a recall effort and get rid of that Obama trained clown.

Better to have democratic asshole free zones, starting with carpetbagger and ex Clinton bagman Terry the twit!

One more dumb idea. Why are the anti-gun tribe ignore the reality. That bad people with bad intent ignore the signs. All this will do is increase the likelihood of violence doesn’t diminish the threat. Refuse to be a victim, carry concealed.

  • george October 19, 2015, 2:23 pm

McAuliffe got wealthy from a company that made no products, sold no goods. He sold Green Cards to wealthy Chinese business men under a federal government program,EB5, that allowed foreigners to get one for investments in American companies.
He is just another sleaze bag politician who jumps on the bandwagon after he sees which way it is rolling.

  • Larry October 19, 2015, 12:48 pm

Anyone surprised? After all, this is Terry, “the Punk”, McAuliffe.

  • Patrick October 19, 2015, 11:56 am

The Virginia governor is not stupid, he is dishonest. He knows very well that such a prohibition will not prevent murderers from taking their guns into “gun free” zones. The governor isn’t stupid. But his supporters are absolute morons.

  • RAPTOR555 October 19, 2015, 10:51 am

Now we can add Virginia as a safe haven for criminals because they now know where all the unarmed people will be. I try to stay away from ANY area that is ‘gun-free’ or businesses that prohibit guns on their premises. If I MUST go there I give them this flyer:
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Warning: For Your Information

~I am leaving my legal firearm in my vehicle in response to your ‘NO GUNS ALLOWED’ sign BUT:

~I carry a gun because the US Constitution states that doing so is an inalienable right and the Second Amendment states that right can’t be taken away from me.

~I carry a gun because I’m licensed to do so after having gone through a comprehensive background check, proven my proficiency with the firearms I carry and know the laws that pertain to their use.
~By restricting my right to carry a legally concealed firearm in this establishment, you have effectively taken away my right to protect myself and/or my family members.

~The owner of this establishment will POSITIVELY be held civilly liable in a court of law if my family and or I are robbed, injured or murdered by any other person/s in this establishment or if you refuse to grant service to me and/or my guests in retaliation of receiving this warning.

(MY NAME), Concealed weapon permit holder

    • Kivaari October 19, 2015, 5:45 pm

We should not be required a permit to use our constitutional right. I still don’t understand why politicians can violate the right of the people, and remain in office. Traitorous behavior.

  • Ricky Price October 19, 2015, 10:33 am

    Complete IDIOT.

  • Lee Dutra October 19, 2015, 8:26 am

It never ceases to amaze me how the people in political office can be so stupid! Virginia, of all places should know the negative results for gun free zones, yet this dipstick of a Governor wants to make more happy hunting grounds for killers of every stripe. When did logic leave the political arena?

  • Joe McHugh October 19, 2015, 7:35 am

Governor Terry McAuliffe graduated from a Syracuse high school one mile down the road. Some of his classmates have told me that he showed his blow-hard liberal mentality even then. We owe the Democrat voters in Virginia for getting him out of New York State.

His recent action to create more gun free areas in Virginia is not surprising. When the next crazy inevitably shows up at one of these places, and kills everybody in sight, McAuliffe will probably call for gun free CITIES in Virginia. He will, no doubt, allow the farmers to keep their .22 caliber rimfire rifles to discourage foxes from raiding the hen houses. That way, he can claim that he still honors the Second Amendment.

It’s ironic that a state that can claim Thomas Jefferson as a favorite son, would ignore his advice about firearms. “Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.”

But what am I saying here? The majority of the voters in Virginia are obviously automatons who show no intelligence nor ask questions of their masters.

    • Michael E. Hensley October 19, 2015, 3:56 pm

The Gov. as all Govs. in Virginia are a 1 termer only so next Gov. will just turn the order over as I feel he will be Rep.
Our VA constitution says all of us can own guns and that right is etched in stone. besides most of us Virginian’s do not worry about what the Gov. says, We have seen trash come and go

  • Blasew October 19, 2015, 6:45 am

I live in VA and what is so amazing to me is that VA was the state that lead the fight for liberty when this country was founded. Here we are 2.5 centuries later forgetting out history.
I do have a question, can anyone explain to me how this action stops gun violence?

  • RetNavet October 19, 2015, 5:09 am

The only place that should be a gun free zone is 100ft around a politician….lets see them get a warm and fuzzy feel when they are the ones with no personal protection

  • Edward F October 18, 2015, 8:02 pm

Since when can governors impose executive orders?

  • DRAINO October 17, 2015, 6:57 am

Hmm……….I keyed in on these words…..”open carry of firearms shall be prohibited”….and “prohibiting carrying weapons openly”. And those are quotes, so……. If this is the written rule, then concealed carry should still be legal. So I don’t see a huge deal in this. But it is whittling away at our constitutional rights, therefore should be null and void. We definitely need a constitutionalist president to get us back on the right path in our country.

    • stevriot October 16, 2015, 3:58 pm

Michigan advanced a bill this week on getting rid of gun free zones,,,the anti gunners walked out crying

      • Rod October 19, 2015, 8:34 am

Bad for VA, GOOD for MI.

    • Badshot October 19, 2015, 8:58 am

Another idiot, elected by idiots, who all think the mentally ill (anyone who want to commit mass murder) are going to read and walk on to a non-gun free zone.

      • RAPTOR555 October 19, 2015, 10:42 am

I completely agree with you except for the part about the mentally ill. Research shows that the overwhelming majority of the mentally ill are much more likely take their own lives rather than other peoples. Also, research has shown that most of the mass shootings we perpetrated by sane people with personality disorders and/or a negative environment they were raised in at home without both parents and no, or minimal, supervision. Of course one can say that they must be crazy to do these things but the term ‘crazy’ used in this context does not mean mentally ill.

        • Joe McHugh October 19, 2015, 11:31 am

RAPTOR555, um,…… do you really contend that that most of the mass shootings are committed by persons that are “sane”? Perhaps you can explain the difference between the mass killings perpetrated by a person who has a personality disorder, and the mentally ill person who does the same thing. In all honesty, I fail to see the sanity in the person who kills lots of innocent strangers who have no means to defend themselves.

Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure that the survivors of such mayhem fail to appreciate whether the killer had a personality disorder or a mental illness. I dare say that they would like to see both classes of killers confined for the remainder of their days on Earth.

        • Sergio October 19, 2015, 4:39 pm

Hmmm – sane people with crippling personality disorders. We need to mull that over.

    • Edward Rambo October 19, 2015, 3:54 pm

This idiot looks like another one of Obozos butt buddies, another Gun Free Zone for Killers to take advantage of when they want to get their 15 minutes of fame without fear of being shot back at, just how many of these Idiots that do these shootings go somewhere where the Public is armed, they want to kill as many People as they can before they get killed or kill themselves, just like here in Oregon this Idiot shot himself when the Cops showed up, and he knew he had time to shoot unarmed Students before the Cops showed up…

    • Sergio October 19, 2015, 4:37 pm

The move was more smoke than substance. He repeats over and over that this is an open carry prohibition. So he thinks he’ll disarm the bad guys by making them carry their piece in their pocket or waistband. Yeah – that’ll work!

    • Louis Kocon Jr October 21, 2015, 8:27 am

Yeah, this will surely work just like restraining orders work. Ask anyone who has been killed by someone who he or she had a restraining order against. Liberal idiots!!!

    • SkyRaider October 22, 2015, 12:48 pm

Correct me if I am wrong but I’m reading that only OPEN carry is prohibited according to what is written above. ?!
