SIG Sauer is best known for military-style hardware, ranging from submachine guns and sniper rifles to the new Army M17 pistol. It is easy to forget they also make 1911 pistols that are some of the best around. The first time I shot a Sig 1911 over a decade ago, it was hard to miss the value of the included high-end features. This year, SIG released a special edition “ We the People” model, a sure win for collectors.

This is the first in a series of guns. The We the People model features unique grips, with engraved stars. The grips are aluminum, which offers great aesthetics. G10 might be more functional, but nothing looks as refined as these unique metal grips. The safety is ambi, hammer and trigger are skeletonized, along with all the other high-end features SIG puts on its top shelf guns. This model comes with night sights, so it is functional in addition to beautiful.

The slide features very nice engraving, “ We The People”, hence the name of the gun. The opposite side is engraved with “1776”. The most unique feature, however, is the finish. No two guns are exactly alike. The finish is achieved by taking finished, blued guns, and tossing them in a tumbler with a special media. The result is a very eye catching finish and is sure to get some attention.

I never shot a 1911 or a 45 acp, but after firing my We The People, I was hooked. Much easier than my Glock 22 There are “prettier” guns out there, but I don’t want a “pretty” gun. I want a gun that will hold it’s look for ever.
Having a gun that gives you confidence is money well spent.

I see no reason to buy a Sig except to have the name. Have yet to see any performance difference between them an other brands that sell for hundreds less. I feel the same way about some other big name brands that are just names. Even the range master at the local range told me he switched from Sig because it didn’t make sense to pay hundreds more for a gun that, in some cases, didn’t perform as well.
Then you nor your range master have not shot many pistols. SIGs are awesome pistols. From ergonomics to shoot-ability.
Buy an America-made Auto-Ordnance 1911 for half the price and you will have twice the gun for the money — and the company profits stay in America instead of lining foreign pockets.
I don’t like the looks at all but really – my issue would be with owning a patriotic billboard firearm made by a foreign corporation.

I was sadden when I called Brownells in 2017 to have my 2015 1911 catalog updated, and was told that they don’t publish it anymore. If you want to browse 1911 parts you have to use the online version. Lucky me; I still have the # 11 for reference. As for the Sig, WE THE PEOPLE 1911; my Wilson Combat .45 ACP PROTECTOR custom in black which cost me back in 2000 $1200. Same gun today ($3000). Is better looking than that zinc gray cast whatever. But all 1911s are great shooters.
