Wisconsin state Democrats have proposed a new policy that would require federally licensed firearm dealers to lock all guns in a secured safe or a steel gun cabinet or on a secured rod or cable when the business is closed or unattended.
The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Lisa Subeck, D-Madison, said this regulation will keep firearms from being stolen and becoming threats to the community.
“This common sense security measure will help keep our communities safe,” Subeck said in a statement. “With gun violence on the rise and mass shootings becoming all too commonplace, this is a simple measure to keep firearms off our streets and out of the hands of those intent to do harm.”
Subeck references in her statement a recent firearm burglary in which a criminal drove his car through a window and got away with “several firearms.” She also mentions a high-profile incident in which a man stole 18 firearms and two suppressors from a Wisconsin gun shop. He then sent an anti-government manifesto to President Trump, which sparked a 10-day manhunt.
“I was shocked by the ease with which these criminals were able to steal multiple unsecured firearms. As a result, these guns are now out on the streets posing a danger to the community,” Subeck said. “The legislation I am introducing today will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on dangerous weapons by ensuring they are stored safely and securely after hours where they are sold.”

Subeck combines these two incidents with ATF statistics that indicate 7,488 firearms were burglarized in 2016. She does not mention that of those 7,488 firearms, only 44 were stolen from FFLs in Wisconsin.
The problem, apparently, is somewhat less dire than Subeck would have her constituents believe.
This isn’t the first time the Madison Democrat has advocated for stricter gun control measures. A brief scan of her Twitter feed shows support for universal background checks, bump stock bans, and ending “gun violence.”

Fortunately for Wisconsin FFLs, Subeck’s legislation is unlikely to gain much traction. Republicans hold a 2-1 majority in the Assembly.

How is her proposal even feasible for large operators like Cabela’s with hundreds of guns on inventory? Subeck has consistently demonstrated feebleminded legislative ability and should be out of gov’t. I unfortunately live in Madison, Wisconsin and suffer this reality.
I know a number of local gun shop owners that already do this every night. They do it because they specifically don’t want their tens of thousands of dollars of investment in their business being taken from them, after the nationwide rash of burglaries. It isn’t much different than what jewelry stores do, as they also have to do a full set up each morning. These particular gun shop owners have decided it is worth it to them to pay for the effort of securing their investments every night. Overall this legislation sounds like people trying to legislate common sense, and it never works very well.

Once again liberals adding unnecessary legislation which will never accomplish the intended goal. So are we to believe this will keep firearms off our streets and out of the hands of those intent to do harm? Just follow the local news in Milwaukee WI and see how many felons are arrested that have firearms in their possession. These firearms are not acquired by felons burglarizing gun stores or retailers selling guns. In most every case these are guns burglarized from private residences or straw purchases made by people willing to arm the felons. The number of incidents involving gun shop burglaries and related gun crime is so small it doesn’t warrant new legislation. Try increasing penalties for felons in possession of firearms and then getting out-of-touch judges to increase sentences to keep these worthless POS off the streets. The typical democrat logic once again, blame it on the gun not the felon in possession of the gun that should not have it in the first place.

Its our right to disagree and argue the point, but taking this to another level is not necessary. We live in divided times but insults only causes more problems.
However, it is acceptable for “gun grabbers” to insult the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Many of these politicians are funded by the likes of Bloomberg and Soros. Maggots that want a new world order where everyone is no longer a citizen, but a subject to be controlled by THEIR agenda. I’m so sorry that your little feelings were hurt by “rough language”, but these are troubling times for this country. Storm clouds are brewing. Buy more ammo!
