BRAND NEW - better than a - Super SASS AR10 .308 rifle. In January of this year, I shipped my brand new AR10 A4 rifle back to Armalite in order to have it upgraded to Super SASS configuration by Armalite factory technicians. My rifle was one of the very few AR10 A4s that Armalite ever produced with a barrel that is similar to the barrel on the Super SASS -- stainless steel 20.0" medium weight, threaded barrel w/ 1 in 11.25" RH twist. A copy of the Armalite Service Department Work-Order - #548837 - detailing all of the upgrades performed to bring my rifle up to Super SASS specifications will be included with rifle.

While the rifle was undergoing modification, Armalite bead-blasted the stainless steel barrel, the stainless steel gas-block and stainless steel recoil-check so the entire barrel assembly is completely non-reflective. Unlike the ceramic coating on the Super SASS barrel which can chip off, if you scratch the stainless steel barrel on this rifle just polish out the blemish with some steel wool.
When the re-build was complete, Armalite test fired one full 20rd mag to insure flawless functioning. Other then the factory testing, the rifle has not been fired and has spent its entire life sitting in my climate controlled vault. The rifle is both cosmetically and mechanically in 100% condition.
The primary difference between this rifle and a Super SASS is the previously mentioned barrel coating and the gas regulator plug. In theory, the gas regulator plug is only utilized when firing the rifle with a sound suppressor attached. Please keep in mind that military snipers have been utilizing sound suppressors on the AR10 for decades with out any gas adjustment system. It was the opinion of the technician who built this rifle that the adjustable gas system only added one more thing that could go wrong and no real improvement in the rifles function.
Currently, the only way to obtain an Armalite AR10 with a 20.0" medium weight, threaded stainless steel barrel, along with the quad-rail forend and adjustable buttstock is to pay between $2600 and $2800 for a new Super SASS. With this package you get all of the highly desirable features of the Super SASS, plus no gas plug to break or ceramic coating to chip off your barrel, plus ( 15 ) new mags, flip-up BUIS, etc... - all for hundreds less than the price of the Super SASS rifle alone !
