From its winner at the 2012 Beaverton Oregon Ducks Unlimited banquet comes this pristine specimen of the legendary Kimber Model 8400 bolt action rifle. Manufacturer is Kimber Mfg. Co. of Yonkers, New York. Type is bolt action, long action high powered rifle. Construction is matte blue steel, including the trigger guard and floor plate assembly. Barrel is light contour 26 inch, Sporter contour in factory language, .80 diameter 3 inches forward of the receiver, and .56 at the muzzle. Muzzle is factory crowned at 11 degrees. Twist rate is 1:10. Caliber is .300 Winchester Magnum, 3 + 1 round capacity. Extractor is Mauser style claw type, and safety lever is Winchester 70 style 3 position, mounted on the back of the bolt. Stock is select American Walnut, cut checkered on the pistol grip and forend area. Length of pull is 13 5/8 inches from the smooth faced .375 width trigger to the end of the Decelerator factory recoil pad. Weight empty is 7 pounds, with center of gravity under the closed bolt face. Buttstock is a very nice piece of walnut with fiddleback figuring throughout, and subtle coloration ranges from gray to reddish brown as the photos will show. Ducks Unlimited logo is white inlaid upon the floorplate, with 75th Anniversary in script. This rifle has never had a scope base put onto it, and never been loaded or fired. It is in its original box, with its hang tags, insurance papers, foam pads, and blue factory inner wrapper. Box is somewhat frayed, but is original. Rifle itself has no surface detractions that we can see. We do not detect any more bolt operation buffing than brand new rifles. We rate this 8400 Kimber as Near Mint in Box, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
