Offered for your consideration is one (1) Mossberg 44US – U.S. Property marked, .22 caliber, bolt action, training rifle. These rifles were ordered by the government to use as trainers for new troops preparing to enter the combat theaters of World War II. This 44US was one of 14,500 manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons for the U.S. Government under contract #W-478- ORD-3125, dated January 1, 1943. This lot of rifles was produced under the first of eight contracts issued by the government to O.F. Mossberg & Sons for production of the 44US training rifles. This contract required that the Lyman 57MS front and Lyman 17A rear, sights to be installed using a single cut out stock. In 1986 many of these rifles were sent back to a government arsenal to be refurbished which included applying a parkerized finish to the metal surfaces. Specimens of this lot, (serial numbers 100,001 to 115,000) are sought by collectors since they were produced under the first government contract for them. Additional pictures upon request.
