American Made AR-15 Shotgun Coming – Standard Manufacturing SKO – SHOT Show 2017

SHOT Show 2017

From the makers of the now famous DP-12, double barrel shotgun, comes a new gas gun on the familiar AR-15 looking platform. It will be called the SKO, and it takes what are now fairly common 1919 mags.

We were one of the early reviews on the original AR-15 shotgun, the RAAC MKA-1919, and that gun was a huge disappointment. I now have a reliably working one, after almost double the original investment. In hindsight, the gun should never have been given the confidence that it was, but we were all pretty excited back then.

This year’s SHOT Show had no less than 5 new 12 gauge magazine fed gas shotguns that I saw, and I have a couple other videos with the creators coming. Some of them seemed hopeful, one in particular. But for those of you out there with doubts over yet another Turkish gas gun, it will be nice to try this new gun from Standard Manufacturing.

When the DP-12 first hit the market, I think most of us thought of it as a novelty gun. Then we got the review guns, and wow, it is surprisingly handy, and a crapload of what has proven to be flawlessly reliable firepower.

Gas guns aren’t rocket science. And at this point, reliably feeding from a shotgun mag isn’t that difficult either. I’m sure some of those Turkish guns will be ok, but why bother? There are rarely parts available when they eventually break, and now we’ll have a US gun with US customer service and US accountability. There is a world of difference between product integrity with an importer vs. a real manufacturer. We look forward to checking out the Standard Manufacturing SKO.

Problem I have seen with many of the mag fed shotguns, is they always try to get a low price thru using flimsy parts. No an AK or AR type shotgun should not cost $1200. But the $400 ones are junk, with nothing in between. The shop near me had one of the ATI made guns, it looked cool. But I don’t buy without research, it had terrible reviews. And magazines hard to get. A magazine fed shotgun is not much use without being able to get the magazines. And most of us would pay $6-700 for a decent made one. It really isnt the rocket science they claim it to be, semi auto shotguns have been around a long time, as has the AR15. Surely somebody can put the 2 together and not cost $1500.

Standard Manufacturing has some cool stuff but they need to work on their price points. The DP12 is NOT innovative enough to command the $1200.00 price tag and this new offering will also fail on that point. You can buy AR shotguns all day long for half what these folks are going to be asking. Not worth it in my opinion. GA really does need to step up their game and get some new people to do interviews and reviews, This fella looked like he was ready to fall asleep or keel over couldn’t tell which plus the fact he nearly dropped that DP. It’s very hard to watch these videos when the interviewer has a hard time articulating themselves.

You try being on your feet 10 hours a day at a trade show then going back to the room to edit video fucktard.

      • Bryan D January 31, 2017, 8:19 am

Wow! Very professional! Congratulations, you just proved Bob correct sir!

        • Paul Helinski January 31, 2017, 8:44 am

Why do you fucking idiots think you are somehow doing us a favor by reading free editorial? Go look around the web and see who else put out 150 high quality videos of the stuff at SHOT Show. You won’t find anyone with a tenth of that, let alone with niche products found by knowledgeable gun nerds. SHOT is a **closed** show, meaning you can’t get in. Why don’t you go buy a whore print magazine, or find a youtuber who bought his first gun in 2009 and can’t get a real job. You know there are literally millions of readers here who enjoy stuff and never even think to make these dumbass commments. The only one being proven correct is you, that you’re an ass looking for self importance in internet comments. I’m writing this because I have said for years that everyone should, and though most of my stuff has comments disabled, when I allow them, I try to take the opportunity to pull heads like yours out of asses like yours.

No matter how valid your points, you know what happens when you use profanity AND attack someone? You lose every shred of credibility you might have had and that’s exactly what happened here. I would suggest the next time this occurs, and it will, you write your reply and then walk away from it for at least 24 hours before sending. Possibly come back two or three times and edit it and walk away again. And maybe, just maybe, never send it.

          • Paul Helinski January 31, 2017, 9:06 am

Oh no I can be an asshole even weeks later. Hey I noticed you don’t use your real name on internet comments?? It’s funny how I do. Do they call you Vanns40 at the range, or is that just a alias you hide behind?

          • Big John January 31, 2017, 9:18 am

“Why do you fucking idiots think you are somehow doing us a favor by reading free editorial?” I couldn’t have said it any better myself, something about guns attracts asshats like moths to a front porch light.

      • Dan January 31, 2017, 8:54 am

We can do it! Your a whimp! That’s what you get paid for! Backup! Be man !

      • Dave B. January 31, 2017, 9:14 am

Your response is a disgrace to GA. Cut out the foul language and stop whining. Instead of having such a knee jerk reaction you could learn from constructive criticism.

        • Paul Helinski January 31, 2017, 9:42 am

Well you see Dave, it’s my job to be the GA disgrace. Without me we would be just another print mag whoring articles for ads, or we’d be like the tubers and bloggers who know little if anything about guns and will tell you that just about anything is great if they can get it for free and sell ads against it.

But you know what’s really funny Dave? Over 6,000 people have clicked into this article this morning and only a handfull have gotten involved in this dumbass thread. Its like sticker on your forehead Dave B., that screams “I’m a completely useless fuck.”

      • Scott January 31, 2017, 10:09 am

LMAO- says the guy who tried to sell us on a review that a 50 BMG that you had to carry a block of wood to bang open the charging handle was a good rifle! (Noreen) But I do like your responses to other peoples replies. “no cussing doesn’t offend me the slightest”. But seriously 1,000.00 IS a little high for an AR pattern shotgun, when the Turks have proven 4-600.00 WITH import duties and shipping is indeed possible! WTF is wrong with American firearm manufacturers? Have they not got the memo that 10,000 widgets at 10.00 profit makes more money than 100 widgets at 100.00 profit?

        • Paul Helinski January 31, 2017, 1:28 pm

I wouldn’t try to sell you something you can’t afford Scott. My Grizzly bulllpup 50 also has to be banged open.

      • Donnie Steen January 31, 2017, 5:08 pm

And as you just proved it’s a robust design….
        Hahahaha….THAT was awesome…
Haven’t laughed like that in awhile…..
        Good review….
        What will street price be?
        Thanks

    • Ralph January 31, 2017, 7:55 am

He said the gun would retail at UNDER $1000.00

  • William Starks January 31, 2017, 6:54 am

Great another shotgun that uses the MKA 1919 mags…. when are the mags going to be available? 2 years now I have owned a MKA 1919 and the mag availability sucks.

  • Pseudo January 31, 2017, 6:44 am

Did someone finally listen and change the intri music? Or is it only for this video? I myself hope it is for all videos as it is much better.

Lastly two things I agree with the other poster about the Zombie nonsense, drop it as I already enough brain dead Zombies each day on what passes as NEWS? That or members of congress being shown.

And be more professional with your interviewers, I am not a fan of clowns which is what you portrait in this video. Clown alert, clown alert!

  • Charlie J Boudreaux January 31, 2017, 4:19 am

Cringe worthy. Hard to watch. I think that Lou handled the situation as good as anyone could. I know that at SHOT all guns are made safe but how about a little common sense and a little muzzle discipline. No actor playing a private investigator in a B movie ever did worse. The whole time the camera was rolling you where either pointing that six barrel hand gun at Lou,the camera operator, yourself or talking into the six barrel array like it was a the microphone. Great recovery by Lou after you fumbled the DP-12. I am not a basement commando and I do not wish to be rude, I wish professionals would watch a video with a critical eye or have someone else watch it before posting.

Nice looking AR Shotgun, would love to try one of these. But why are a lot of these gun sellers/manufacturers using the term “zombie apocalypse” this and that? I get the Zombie “craze” and all but IMHO it is unprofessional and gives more fuel for the firearms nay say’ers. I don’t doubt that one day the CDC could make a horrible mistake and release some sort of zombie like virus, unintentionally of course. I do watch Smithsonian Channel and H2, etc. and seen the proof of humans in a “zombie like state” but C’mon Man!! Let’s save this for the movies, as fun as it is to say. On that note, this SKO would certainly do the trick for many instances. My 6 shot 12 gauge pump pales in comparison.
