Freedom Munitions has been one of the success stories of the last decade, moving from a tadpole start-up to an industry leader. They are constantly breaking new ground, and always a pleasure to see what they have dreamed up now.

New for this year starts with the X-DEF, which stands for “extreme defensive load.” This is the first true defense hollow point Freedom has ever built, though they have loaded other brands of bullets for that purpose. The new in-house plated hollowpoint offers very impressive terminal ballistics, at half the price of most defensive loads. A box of fifty rounds of X-DEF costs about the same as a box of 20 rounds from any other manufacturer. The MSRP is $24.55 for 50 rounds.

Also, new for Freedom this year is making their .300 AAC Blackout brass in-house. If past performance is any indicator, this is going to lower the price of .300 Blackout substantially. To go with the brass, they are also making a 199 grain plated 30 caliber bullet, further dropping the price. In very short order, Freedom will have available the cheapest .300 AAC subsonic round on the market. This is a win for all shooters.

Plated hollow points? Not bonded… Hmm… I can buy XTP projectiles and load quality, proven ammo, even for 10mm and 38 Super, for a couple of dimes per loaded round. Why try to save on your self defense ammo?

And since we’ve all heard the “any prosecutor would excoriate you for using home rolled ammo in an SD shooting” but never seen any conclusive evidence to prove it, we can just skip that in the replies…

I think you mean “a couple of dimes” MORE “per loaded round,” don’t you?
