Armalite AR-10 Redesigned – Hot New Products – SHOT Show 2015

Jacob Epstein SHOT Show 2015
Armalite 2015

Walking up to the Armalite booth this year at Shot Show 2015, I could see that Armalite has been busy. Very busy. At first glance I was confused; I’d expected the familiar Armalite ARs. But they’re not there. The entirety of the AR line has been overhauled. They’ve introduced 15 new models. It is clear that Armalite has emerged out of the cave and walked proudly into the 21st century.

Starting with the basics, the most noticeable changes are aesthetics. They’ve made the rifles sleek and sexy, which was not an easy task. They had to start from the ground up, making vast improvements to the furniture they use. They are producing their own hand-guards, now. Standing out among the crowd are two rifles, the AR10 3GN13 and the M15 TAC18.

[full_width]Armalite 1734[/full_width]

The AR10 3GN13 is a purpose built competition gun. Designed to be both light and powerful, this rifle is chambered in .308 and sports a 13.5-inch barrel. It has an adjustable compensator that is pinned to the barrel which brings the overall length to just over 16 inches. The gun is built for speed, and ease of use, with easily manipulated controls. Features such as the ambidextrous charging handle and safety selector, Timney trigger, Ergo wide grip, and MBA adjustable stock make this rifle quick into action as well as easy to shoot. Coming in at $1,999 this rifle is a bargain and a half for the competitive shooter.

[full_width]Armalite 1727[/full_width]

The M15 TAC18 is a rifle that is built for precision as well as hard use. Chambered in .223 and sporting an 18inch stainless steel 1/8-twist barrel, this rifle is built for extreme accuracy. With the OSS Banner Break, recoil, and muzzle climb should be close to non-existent. This one has ambidextrous controls, Magpul furniture, a 2-stage match trigger, and the Armalite Tactical Forend. The price-tag is  $1600.

Click on over to Armalite to see the rest of the new guns. And keep your eyes open–next year should bring an overhaul of the bolt guns.

The depth of the new designs is even more impressive when you see them all together.

It was hard to wrap my head around all of the new models.

If you're looking for one of these bolt guns, the time to pull the trigger is now. Or this year. They may be next to get redesigned.

I normally refrain from commenting on these sites but this one has the most disrespectful ass wipes I have scene.

  • Mark Tercsak September 7, 2015, 1:17 pm

To be quite frank all these Ar-10’s , I do not consider them Ar-10’s. The are in fact just over sized Ar-15’s.
The original Ar-10 made use of stamped steel Pressings, the cartridge cases from my under standing ejected out of the action at roughly a 45% angle as opposed to back in your face with the Full Auto capable Ar-15, than M16 series , Than Ar-15 Civilian Series and the M4 Series, It also had a finger lever on top of the receiver located inside the carrying handle.

I usually don’t give a crap about the years of service you jokers served. I have lost friends in Nam and haven’t trusted the government since. Here is my rant.
After 27 years in the service, I find it an embarrassment that with all your supposedly accomplishments that you can’t spell or have the knowledge to use a spell checker.
Get off your dead ass soldier, (if you really are one) and learn!
I read these pages for information, to further my knowledge, not to listen to a bunch of pigs slopping in the mud to try to out do each other. Is your self-esteem that low that you have to brag… GET A LIFE!

I do like this new design. As for quality, I’ve had an Armalite AR-10 and it was very nice. No issues. Speaking of AR-15’s, I had a Colt back in the ’90’s and I had issues with that one. Personally, I don’t care for Colt weapons. When I had my store, I had more Colts come in for repair than any other brand. Broken frames, cylinders, springs, internal parts, etc. And at that time (not sure now) they didn’t have a lifetime warranty like most other manufacturers so customers had to pay for repairs or replacements! The old S&W revolvers were almost as bad. My current AR-15 is in fact, a S&W M&P Tactical, which has been very dependable. Sometimes though, any manufacturer of any product can make a bad item. I had a Barrett M82-A1 a few years back and that particular rifle would fail to extract the spent round almost EVERY TIME. But that doesn’t make me think Barrett makes bad guns, I just happened to get one that was finicky. One last thing; I have never served in the armed forces, but I do very much appreciate those who have! So thanks to all of you out there!

  • Tim January 28, 2015, 5:38 pm

It took them all year to do that? All I want to know is if the front sights are pinned in place or if they are still bolted in place.

  • Russ January 28, 2015, 10:59 am

We need the ghost of Henry Ford to manufacture firearms everyone can afford.
    Where’s the value?
Bend over droolers with money to burn.
Nice rifles. I’ll never buy one.

    • Jay January 28, 2015, 11:28 am

IMHO, you have that right now with PTR.
HK knockoffs with good barrels that will print great groups @ 600yds.
And at $1000-$1500 for a new one, it’s a lot of rifle.

      • Russ January 28, 2015, 1:52 pm

I know Jay , I love those. A real mans rifle.
The classic wood one is my pick because of heat distribution to the hand guard.
You just named my favorite choice for a .308 battle rifle.

        • Kivaari January 28, 2015, 4:44 pm

HK91/G3s in my experience do not shoot well at any range. I know 30-40 years ago they were the current rage. Over 10 years I had 3 HK91A2 rifles. None would shoot better than 3.5 inch @100 yds. Everyone told me they were great, including all the gun magazines. The M91s shot about as well as Chinese SKS carbines. I tried various optics, and the best groups were still 3.5 inch or worse, like using iron sights.
From a reloaders perspective, the HKs mangled the cases. They were fun to shoot, as long as you did not want to save your brass. Fore ends were available in slim-line (my favorite) and the tropical. The tropical was larger and had heat shields. I never fired enough rounds to make either hot. Wood, like on the M1 or M14 would start smoking quite quickly.
I would have kept one, had they actually shot decent groups. Maybe they just did not like US GI ammo.

        • GRA May 16, 2015, 8:41 pm

I’ve never shot one of the PTR rifles but I’ve been told they are like shooting a pogo stick. Is this true … ???

  • Jimi January 28, 2015, 9:17 am

Armalite is the original ar. Why not make the barrel 16in to start.l love my Rock River lar 308! Very heavy but deadly accurate!!os The ar is americas rifle! I do prefer my m1a though for long range shooting! I know 27 clicks up from battle sight zero she is in the black scoring rings at 600 meters!

  • Thomas A Owen January 28, 2015, 7:31 am

The AR-10 / AR-15 / m-16. desine has a flaw. John Stonner went on th build better weapons, AR-18 and Stoner 63. If the bolts games to the rear you have to try to clear it up the magazine well or through the ejection port. My new M-16/A1, in 1967 suffered a stove piped brass that gamed in the recess for the operating handle / gas tube, in the middle of a fire fight. I had to try to clear it with the cleaning rod I carried taped to my sights and a knife. I later started carrying a pare of bent nose niddle nose plyres. I carried an M-16 for most of my thirty years in the army and had remarkably few stoppages over all. I spent years on the rifle range as a Drill Instructor. But the M-14 was a much better combat weapon, I love my Steyr AUG, Disassemble takes about three seconds and you can swap barrels.

    • Jonboat2 January 28, 2015, 9:23 am

SFC Owen. How’s that 12 step program working out?

      • Rick January 28, 2015, 2:01 pm

Jonboat2 how is life as a disrespectful arse working for you?

    • Kent January 28, 2015, 12:30 pm

When you call spell “design” get back to us.

    • Kent January 28, 2015, 12:31 pm

When you call spell “design” get back to us.

      • Rick January 28, 2015, 1:58 pm

Kent did you take your ADHD meds before you commented?

    • Kent January 28, 2015, 12:32 pm

Thanks, was wondering what the retard draftees thought about it. When you call spell “design” get back to us.

      • Jango January 28, 2015, 1:35 pm

forget about “design”, I would expect someone who spent 30 years in the Army to be able to spell “Infantry”!

        • Rick January 28, 2015, 2:22 pm

What have you done for you Country? In case you didn’t know, Infantry are the men that fight the wars that keep you free. But by all means just sit back and rest on the freedom that you have because of men like SFC Owen. Easy for pups like you , Kent, and Jonboat to smart off. Put a uniform on and see if you can hang with the infantry. I’d bet My pension you couldn’t. I fought beside draftees and voluntaries and they bleed and died the same regardless of the way they could spell. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Most likely you’re not. For the record I served in the USMC for 27 years and smug self centered asses like you 3 wouldn’t make a pimple on the ass of Infantrymen.

          • steve January 28, 2015, 5:23 pm

Rick, first off Semper Fi! jar head! I of course strongly agree! the youth of today is very disrespectful! and to you SFC Owen thanks for serving! thats what the pups should have said instead of mocking a veteran! thats why it should be fed. law that all high school grads should have to serve at least 3 years in the military if they want to vote! other wise they can shut the heck up!

          • fnbrowning January 28, 2015, 9:30 pm

Rick; Before you stroke out getting all hateful with anyone that comments about “SFC Thomas Owen, Infintry” you’d do well to remember all the stolen valor stories on the Internet. Yea, you dumba** you could well be defending a poser!
Take another closer look at the lousy English composition and sentence structure. Does that strike you as the written word of a 60-something yr/old man?
Finally If YOU are 27 years as a Marine as you say, then you know what he’s saying about the “cleaning rod I carried taped to my sights” & “bolts games to the rear” is not the language of ANY U.S. military instructor of anything what-so-ever! The Army & Marines Do Not employ idiots as drill instructors!

And I want YOU Mr. Marine to tell us why we have to still hear about every rusted-out half truth, lie, and cliché finicky M-16 from the Vietnam days here in the 21st Century??? We’ve got modern torture tests in which various AR-15s have fired 20,000, 30,000 rounds plus w/o without cleanings or malfunctions. They still shoot groups, too!

Next time, take a moment for a deep breath, before launching an worthless attack. Oh, and 27 years of honorable service can go right down the drain when you act like an a**. And I’d have NO trouble telling you that to your face!

          • Rick January 29, 2015, 5:35 am

FN browning: I have trained on M16A1,A2 A4 and M4’s and M14″s and have had malfunction in all of them. Some at times that made my ass pucker 😉 with proper training these are cleared and your back in the fight. You could be right about posers I have run into a few and call them out on the spot. Who knows you could be one. In 2003 I had a Marine in my Platoon that could barley read and write but he made it through boot camp and the school of Infantry and could do battle drills as well as any Marine. (FM 7-8 you can find out what battle drills are) He fought hard and was a damn good Marine. Recruiters cut corners to make their numbers especially in wartime, you know it as well as I do if you ever had a uniform on. Anytime your Pup ass wants to meet face to face so you can call me a dumb ass. Fine I’m down, I’ll bring my DD214 you can bring yours and we can see who has a bigger one (pun intended ). However such wars of words mean nothing since nothing will come of this you self-righteous clown.

          • Joe January 29, 2015, 10:41 am

Amen Rick, I have friends that served in Korea and Nam and some of them can’t spell or use sentence structure but put a M1 /M14 or M16 in their hands and they will back up your play till the lights go out. I myself can’t spell for beans and a internet voice taught me how to use spell check to make my postings readable.
Lots of us never made it through 12th grade but excelled in trade school.
You can’t tell these pissy kids anything.

          • fnbrowning January 29, 2015, 8:37 pm

Rick; I TOLD YOU PREVIOUSLY that your 27 years of honorable service can go right down the drain when you act like an a**. So what did you do with your reply?? You continued on a self-aggrandizing tirade! You were so busy blowing your own trumpet that you missed (deliberately missed) most of the points of my message.

If you really did serve, you must truly be a younger veteran, because the previous generations of veterans – WWII, Korea, Vietnam – did not beat their chest like you guys do. Another thing I often notice about your generation of veteran – the ATTITUDE that you got some kind of “super free speech” rights because you wore a uniform for a few years. Your attitude needs adjustment – READ THE CONSTITUTIION – NO special citizenship rights for former military. NOW GET OF YOUR HIGH HORSE! YOUR SHAMEFUL CHEST-THUMPING IS MAKING MILITARY EXPERIENCE LOOK BAD – you self-righteous clown!!!

Rick , nice job soldier . FYI we’re not free , we never have been ; we’re tax slaves all our lives and we have to stop fighting and dying to keep our masters fat and happy and laughing their asses off at us Be the patriot for the sake of the new kids on the block ; fight and kill only those who support the tyranny of the lawyers and bankers Don’t let them kill any more of our kids , family and friends .

    • sasnak1 January 28, 2015, 1:54 pm

Is John Stoner related to Gene Stoner?

    • Joe January 28, 2015, 2:13 pm

Last I heard spelling ,punctuation and grammar weren’t necessary for serving your country and killing the enemy.
Ya Bunch of pantie waist wannabes

    • Rick January 28, 2015, 2:29 pm

      Thank you for your service.

    • Kivaari January 28, 2015, 4:29 pm

The AR18/180 had its own share of faults. Extractors broke, seems that it happened more often than the AR15, That could be due to poor QC and heat treatment. The magazine release was on the LHS of the action, and magazines would part company with the rifle. If I remember right the magazines did not have a stop to keep them from getting jammed in too far.
They shot well. When introduced, the AR18 was designed to be made in factories without the advanced technical skill to do the forgings and milling of the M16 uppers and lowers.
Going back to the Vietnam era the complaints were addressed and from what I see, the issues no longer exist.

    • cw January 28, 2015, 5:20 pm

Thanks for your service! Because of men like you we are allowed to have and voice our opinions. We can replace misspelled words with spellcheck, but not the freedom servicemen fight to allow us.

    • Bill January 30, 2015, 2:05 pm

Amen on the M-14….my M-16 did the same as yours. In 1970 the USMC issued us the M-16. I finally got my hands on a M-14 and stayed alive while my fellow Marines were getting there ass shot clearing their weapon. The ARs have come a long way since but my choice of caliber is 7.62.
      Semper Fi

  • Joe January 28, 2015, 6:41 am

Now if they could just overhaul those prices to maybe 10% over a standard AR-15 carbine…

  • Steve K January 28, 2015, 6:30 am

    The AR10 3GN13 looks GREAT! That’s a winner!

    • razor22 January 29, 2015, 5:24 pm

Does the .308 utilize a Stoner type mag? Or the Armalite specific mag?

      • motljoe August 24, 2015, 8:23 pm

never use a long buffer ; make sure your bolt can come all the way back or your rifle may not be able to strip shells fromthe mag . ???
