Armed Michigan Woman to Would-Be Robber: ‘I don’t want to kill you’

Michigan-DGU

A Michigan woman used a firearm to defend herself from a would-be robber.

Nothing like taking your pup for a stroll, only to be stalked and attacked by a perp in a windowless van.

An armed Michigan woman found herself in that exact situation, last Sunday evening.

Out walking her dog, at an apartment complex near 15 Mile and Van Dyke, she noticed an eerie van nearby.  While it was on the other side of the street, she got the feeling it was following her.

“That’s kind of odd – that time of night, why is this van running? And it’s a black van with no windows,” Sterling Heights Police Chief Dale Dwojakowski told Fox 2 News, recounting the victim’s frame of mind.

When the suspect exited the van, the woman acted quickly.  As a concealed carrier, she put her hand on the pistol that was hidden under her jacket.

The 40-something-year-old woman was ready, but she didn’t draw.  Not yet.  She lost track of the suspect for a brief moment.  Then, he jumped out and surprised her.

“He grabbed the back of her jacket and tried to grab her and pull her towards him,” Dwojakowski said.

She saw him holding something shiny, perhaps a knife, according to police.  Fearing for her life, she pulled her weapon.

“She put the gun into the suspect’s stomach and said, ‘I don’t want to kill you,'” Dwojakowski said.

That was enough to send the scumbag running for his life.  The woman said he was a black male in his 30s, medium build, clean shaven with a scar on his upper lip.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.  In the meantime, they’ve decided to increase patrols in the area.

Stories of armed women defending themselves do not get enough attention. There is a reason for this.  It’s because it bucks the anti-gun narrative that women are hapless victims that are incapable of defending themselves.  Think I’m being hyperbolic? Click on that story highlighted above about the Canadian Minister.

Gun-grabbers don’t want to empower women.  They want them to be wholly dependent on government for their security.  Because when the government fails to protect them, they can argue that it failed because it’s not big enough.  The answer is always more laws and more government.

Thankfully, for that Michigan woman, she’s recognized this scam.  She knows that she can’t rely on the government for her security.  She needs to rely on the best person for the job.  Herself.

The perp got off easy but so did the would be victim. Thugs only seem to risk themselves if they don’t expect an armed response, a byproduct that liberal society tries to project such as “gun free zones are absolute” a false narrative that I’m safe because guns aren’t allowed there or that thugs feel safe because the law abiding follows the rules and no one will shoot back. How dare people provide for their common defense. Police as they say are never around when you need one, but our would be victim would face a mountain of trouble just trying to justify her actions. The irony is that she would have had to defend herself in a court of law because the perp became a victim of a shooting. True, she would be alive but the killing of a person carries another set of issues for moral people who obey the law.

There is too much uninformed debate going on about how the Left wants government large enough to provide security for us as individuals. That question has been decided numerous times by various local, district and state courts – all the way up to the DC Appellate Court at the federal level. Each time, it has been held that it is “A FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE OF AMERICAN LAW” that no federal, state or local agency of government or political subdivision thereof can be held liable for failing to provide governmental services (Police protection, Fire protection) to any individual. The obligation extends only to society as a whole.

Read the horrific details of the multiple rapes of four women and the court decision that followed in Warren vs District of Columbia, 444 A 2d, 1 (DC Appl. 1981) and you will understand this is neither some legal aberration unique to the District of Columbia, nor is it some legal ploy to avoid just liability and compensation. The idea is well founded that the individual is responsible for being his/her OWN first line of defense against crime, with the police providing only an auxiliary general deterrent.

The question we all should be asking is, “If the government requires the law-abiding individual to provide for his/her own adequate defense against crimes which are a threat to the Life and Liberty of that individual, how can it require a permit to do so?” Our basic Human Rights as listed in the Declaration are Life (the Right to control one’s life and destiny), Liberty (the Right to do whatever you choose with your life as long as you do not interfere with or deny any other individual the Right to do the same with HIS/HER life) and the Pursuit of Happiness (engage in any legal occupation or endeavor that respects the Rights of others). Secondly, “How can you separate the Natural Right of the individual to control his/her own life and destiny if he/she does not ALSO have the Right to DEFEND his/her life?”

A more recent Scotus case would be this one
Castle Rock v. Gonzales, 545 U.S. 748 (2005), is a United States Supreme Court case in which the Court ruled, 7–2, that a town and its police department could not be sued under 42 U.S.C. §1983 for failing to enforce a restraining order, which had led to the murder of a woman’s three children by her estranged husband.

Most of us agree she should of shot the guy, she probably didn’t have a round chambered . That’s probably the reason she didn’t shoot. An empty chamber causes hesitation, which can cause you to die. 13 years ago I was shot twice by an illegal alien because I was a white boy dating a hot lil Mexican chick. He got jealous and pulled a drive by on me. Since that day I’ve carried a gun everyday everywhere. Life can change in a blink of an eye. It’s up to you to stay ready to defend yourself, your family and your friends. If you do chamber on like me, please don’t be a dumbass. Take care of your gun and it will take care of the guy who wishes you harm. Never hesitate.

I can’t help but wonder how many of the “I would have blasted him” folks have ever been even close to being in the situation the lady was in.

  • mark haney December 15, 2017, 6:34 pm

did they get information on who the guy was from the van? if nothing else fingerprints

  • Bernardo Trinidad December 15, 2017, 2:43 pm

My mother always used to say, “The police are like rainbows, they come after the storm. How many of you think a criminal is going to commit a crime with the police nearby? This lady chose to give a verbal warning and not shoot. Had there been a patrol car in the vicinity the assailant probably would not have made his move.

    • mikeb December 6, 2019, 9:05 am

Happens quite often in New Orleans. Recent shooting in the French Quarter that resulted in 12 victims is a prime example. The Qtr always has a large police presence at night, especially following large sporting events and concerts.

OH Boy, here we go with the what she should have done and what our state allows us to do. Me, training would have kicked in, but I doubt I would have popped a cap as that means you just killed someone. Now if I could see he had a knife u bet ur butt I would have dropped him. If we train to shot we end up shooting, thus way to many of US are getting killed by those their to protect US. I support out LE, but I don’t want then popping a cap just because the law say they can, simple as that. Now some on the right or left will object to what I say, and I will listen, but I already have the restraint not to shot until I know there is no other choice. As for ur state, Note U will face LE and a lot of costs before it is over, and you may end up in jail. Now that is better then dead, but only it you had The Right to take a life. Cops are giving way to much wiggle room, and after a bad shooting their agency and government do anything to prevent being found as a Bad Shooting. But, watch and a year so later those cops are often fired for some reason. I say give US the same right to pull the trigger a Cop has, yes the same right, but before then lets train them correctly with resistant, and not simply u can shoot so shoot em at least 5 times and then stop to see if they are actually a threat. The Head Cops are starting to get fired over this kind of stuff, so Good Training will come back. Now I might have a little odd point of view, but I have been shooting and hunting for around 52 years now, and CC for around 45 years, and yes I have put my hand on my carry a few times over those years, and I hope I never have to us it. Move, find cover, retreat, use restraint, and only shot if they are starting to swing on you. Might be to late, but that will be what it is should I ever have to face it. Now I hope our LE gets retrained as I may be looking down their barrel someday if we allow them to continue the way they are now. As for this lady, she might be scare, but she won’t be living with the results of shooting this scum bag. Dave

    • C.G.A. December 15, 2017, 2:35 pm

Guess you didn’t read the article. She didn’t shoot, but only threatened to. The perp chose to not lose his life and ran away. We need more women like this and then maybe there would be less crime like this.

    • Darryl December 16, 2017, 1:32 am

he grabbed her and to me that would have been enough to pop 2 or more into him. in this set up if your going to pull it you need to shoot him as you don’t know whats coming next, yes he turned and ran but different guy and in this much time he could have done something else besides run and then were would she have been, dead? i’m sure this guy has done this before so she could have been saving another woman from the same thing that may not get way like she did. cops are looking into this, right back burner if you ask me is where this has gone because nothing happened to her. i just hope the next lady gets away too but what if she doesn’t? you can bank on it this guy will do this again. if not there somewhere else.

You should get some further education in spelling, tenses etc. Your butchering of the written word makes you look like an idiot, and I have little doubt that you are.

  • Scott December 15, 2017, 12:31 pm

The real truth is that 80,000,000 gun owners is really a viable military force toward an invasion. They ARE in the interest of our National Security. No doubt Russia, Syria, Iran, North Korea are behind the International Small Arms Treaty. It would be a win to them to remove every gun from this country. It is unfortunate we have our losses every year from idiots, or mental people. But would you sacrifice a nation to save a few?
With one neutron bomb, or a few subsonic missles on our cities, you would not only have worry about an invasion, but your own fellow citizens. The world has become less peaceful with some nations becoming more aggressive, as resources of the world are stretched.
I don’t care if my guns sit in the closet for 10 generations. But they should be there, when needed.
Our nations think tanks have already said that most all our technology would be used up in the first 3-months of major war. Our weapons factories would be destroyed with no way to retaliate, but with the citizens and what’s left of an army. It would be on the ground hand-to-hand combat.
If one reads history thoroughly, you will find that genocide happens to people least armed.

  • Scott December 15, 2017, 12:14 pm

I asked an anti-gunner one day a question one day at work. I asked him. Suppose someone breaks into your house one day robs you and starts to rape your 12 year old daughter in front of you. Would you just let him rape her. His answer, “Yes”! I wanted to wrap him on the head so bad.

    • C.G.A. December 15, 2017, 2:37 pm

You should have. But, then again, it probably would not have done much good. I hope his 12 year old daughter doesn’t hear what he said.

    • Rick August 24, 2018, 9:13 am

Perhaps “one day” you will be able to express yourself in a manner that resembles that of an adult.

      • Archie November 5, 2019, 1:49 pm

Perhaps some day you will be able to do so as well, Rick. I suspect you are the same p(insert your name here) that whined about spelling and punctuation above?
While you may be correct, and your 7th grade grammar teacher may have given you an “A”, that is hardly the way to make friends and influence people.
Grow up and discuss content, not sentence structure and gut feelings (not acted upon out of politeness). The point was valid, and the father allowing his daughter to be raped definitely should have been beat by someone – preferably his own father decades ago. He would have grown up to be a better person than you have.

  • clayburn December 15, 2017, 11:50 am

She should have pulled the trigger. There is a reason police train and handcuff people like they do. You never let them get that close to you. I’ve always heard, multiple times and places, the 21 foot rule. It is based on reaction time to pull and shoot. Not always procticle but he could have swept has hand to the right or left, pushing the gun away and grabbed it with his other hand and disarmed her. I know, easy to say and not to do, it all depends on mind set. She was lucky this time.

  • Kimberpross December 15, 2017, 9:43 am

Unfortunately if she had dispatched this guy, she would be facing a lot of life disruption and legal fees.

    • Frank December 15, 2017, 11:38 am

Not in North Carolina. Here all you have to say is that you were in fear of your life and/or great bodily harm! When he slipped up on her and grabbed her jacket from behind, that would’ve been all it took! My wife would’ve shot him dead without saying a word as I have trained her to do!

  • Howlinwolf December 15, 2017, 8:47 am

When my older brothers were in the mid to late teens and facing the prospect of the Vietnam draft, my father, a WWII veteran who spend 3 years over there and earned 2 bronze stars for valor sat them down and told them the following: “When you face a life or death situation and you have a weapon, you do not use it until you know you must take a life. You don’t wave it around or tell your threat that you are going to use it because while you are talking about what you are going to do or showing them you have it, you are probably going to be killed. When it gets to the point that you need to use a firearm to stop the threat of possible death, you use it only to kill and kill very quickly. I have never forgotten that wise advice!

  • tmonk December 15, 2017, 7:01 am

Blue Dog I guess you to be a fuc(ing liberal by your comment, wish it would have been your wife or a family member, I think you would change your tune

  • MarkOwen December 15, 2017, 3:21 am

Should have shot him right then and there. Jerk probably pissed his pants when she stuck that gun on him. Would have been a good shoot. Probably went and found another victim.

  • Blue Dog December 11, 2017, 7:07 pm

It is good to hear that this story ended with nobody being hurt. Gladder still to hear that the accused attempted kidnapper did not take her gun from her and make her a victim of her own gun; maybe that indicates a lack of intent or resolve to harm? Could it have been a misunderstanding?

    • Michael December 15, 2017, 11:39 am

Yeah cause complete strangers just looooove when their misunderstandings decide not to be victims. Oops. My bad. They actually hate that. Yes Blue Dog more men and women should not be allowed to defend themselves or anyone else. All law abiding gun owners should handover our firearms to the non-law abiding. You know. Criminals. Those not nice people that just need hugs. It makes total sense. Then we can hand them crossbows, knives, lawn darts, hammers, cars, hockey sticks, golf clubs, baseball bats, cricket bats, sticks, branches that sticks come from and trees that branches come from along with the sticks that came from the branches which came from……? TREES Blue Dog. They came fromTrees!! Pay Attention. We might as well just give them all the twigs we have in our yards. If it was winter? Well it would be ice skates, ice cream cones, icicles and snow chains for tires. What do snow chains do Blue Dog? They help you maintain control of your vehicle when driving on icy roads. Everything can kill you Blue Dog. Everything no matter what it is can kill you but giving someone or even that something the advantage to do it is stupid. You’re choosing to be helpless and putting your families lives and your friends lives at the mercy of misunderstandings and in the hands of someone who may or may not get there in time. That’s on you. It’s your choice but it’s not a choice you get to make for the rest of us. We’re willing to do whatever it takes. We train, research, and teach to others. You don’t. Sadly that says a lot about you and it’s very unfortunate. Do you know something we don’t do Blue Dog? We don’t shove it down the country’s throat or lie about the reasons why we choose to own and carry and almost all (yes almost all not all) are the most law abiding and law conscious Americans in the country. That’s a fact proven over and over for years. Don’t worry though I’m not a liberal or rino. I’m not a dem or part of the msm. I don’t even think I’m republican or conservative. I do know one thing though. I’m sure you might already know what that is Blue Dog but I think some people in this country need to be reminded we’re still around and always will be. My name is irrelevant but I am an American a Patriot and a Proud Veteran of These United States. I served my country but I did not sacrifice as much as those who fought before me with me or even after me. I served with some of the best and maybe even the best men and women I’ve ever met. Not all of them came home to a smiling face whether from stepping off a plane or walking through a door or some other way. Those 17 (18) as well as the hundreds of thousands of millions beyond didn’t, don’t and probably never will….. do it for the money. It was because they felt they had to. They did it to protect their families and complete strangers. They did it to protect people who wanted to fight with them and couldn’t. I don’t if you served Blue Dog and I’m not sure whether I would care either way. I only say that because in my opinion you and a lot of other people have decided that some of our freedoms aren’t worth it anymore. You’ve turned your backs on everyone who has died and just in case you weren’t aware are still dying in order to keep you as safe as you choose to be. You’re telling people not to care. You’re teaching people things are less important than they used to be. Who needs honor? Why be brave? Faith has nothing to do with life? Money means might and therefore right. Like i said it’s your choice to be a victim and it’s the choice of those connected to you whether they want to be victims too but not you or anyone else will decide what I will choose. There’s no way in hell I’m going to listen to someone who knows these situations aren’t just misunderstandings. Or someone who thinks that hey I’m going against the odds and betting that the badguy or 1, 2, 3 badguys won’t kill anyone in my family after breaking into our house and tying us up. It sure was lucky for me and my family we hid under the table and that it happened inside our home. I mean they almost thought no one was home. Good thing someone tried to call 911 and oops Sparky got shot before he even swiped his thumb. It’s ok Sparky it’s better not saving dogs lives let alone your kids, wives, brothers, sisters, moms, dads or even neighbors. That’s your future not mine. Yours is the same for a lot of others who are just as scared as you are. Mine is also the same for a lot of others but we’re not willing to stand around and wait for other people that are scared for all the wrong reasons figure it all out. Hopefully none of these situations or anything similar happens but the world doesn’t work that way. It never has. If it ever does? You’re either dead or dreaming. Hopefully you’re not dead.

      • C.G.A. December 15, 2017, 2:42 pm

        Ditto!

    • Frank December 15, 2017, 11:41 am

Blue Dog, I think you’re either a liberal, delusional or both!!!

    • Mike December 15, 2017, 5:11 pm

He put his hands on her, there was no misunderstanding.

  • Dilligaf December 10, 2017, 8:29 pm

She should have killed him. One less scumbag on this earth to worry about

    • SuperG December 11, 2017, 9:01 am

I had the same exact thought. Now he’ll go find another victim.

      • C.G.A. December 15, 2017, 2:49 pm

I would have shot him, too. She had P.C. to do it (fear of death or great bodily harm). I would not have waited for him to decide to run away because he might not have run. Too bad for him, but he made the choice to attack her. He was lucky.

  • Donald Jackson December 9, 2017, 2:41 pm

I would have put it to him know he continues to to attack other people whereas this behavior would have stopped permanently no more victims

  • Pedro A. Castillo December 8, 2017, 10:27 pm

Hooray for this lady. I have nhad my CCW since 1995. At first, my wife was stiff scared that I carried my Colt .38 Super but now she reminds me “holster your heat before we go out. I am glad this Michigan lady stood up for what is right. Punks like this guy, know now that be aware of ladies.

  • Mark December 8, 2017, 3:12 pm

    She should’ve pulled the trigger!

    • Ton E December 8, 2017, 6:35 pm

      She should’ve emptied her magazine!

    • Dr Motown December 12, 2017, 7:17 am

Absolutely…she’s lucky he didn’t try to take the gun away once he saw her hesitate. Could’ve ended up badly for her because she didn’t shoot

      • Bob December 15, 2017, 8:31 am

I agree. If you do not feel you can terminate a life, you should not carry a gun. In this case she was lucky. If you determine you have to pull a gun for self defense, you have legitimate cause to pull the trigger. She could have been disarmed faster than she could react and pull the trigger. If this were my wife I would be retraining her (but if this were really my wife I think there would be one very dead mugger). Glad it all turned out OK.

    • Larry December 15, 2017, 3:38 pm

Good grief! Ma’am, if you’re reading this – or anyone else for that matter – and ever put in that situation again – SHOOT! You’re extremely lucky to be alive. He could have disarmed you quicker than you could have reacted. Ever heard the ‘ol expression “the hand is quicker than the eye”? There’s truth to that! If you didn’t want to kill the SOB, a double tap to the guts probably would have shocked him enough for your hasty retreat and getaway. Then every time he had to empty his colostomy bag it would remind him of how lucky HE was!
