As part of its WWII commemorative series, Auto-Ordnance this week unveiled their Custom “Squadron” 1911 pistol.

Made to look like American fighter planes from the Second World War, e.g. P-40 Warhawk, the Squadron 1911 features unforgettable “shark mouth” nose art on the muzzle and the Army Air Corps insignia on both sides of the slide, along with an engraved rivet pattern over the gun.

The pistol is chambered in .45 ACP, comes with checkered wood grips displaying the U.S. logo and a seven round magazine.  The finish is a worn black and gray Cerakote.

“The overall appearance makes for a pistol that looks like a WWII fighter plane getting ready to race into the skies hunting bandits! Auto-Ordnance is proud to offer this latest custom 1911 in honor of the pilots who flew in defense of our nation during WWII,” said the Pennsylvania-based company in a press release.  “May their bravery and sacrifice always be remembered!”

MSRP for the Squadron is $1,106.  Model number is1911BKOWC3.  For more information about this pistol or to check out some of the other guns in this series, visit Auto-Ordnance.com.

But I have to admit, I like the “steampunk” look. Can do without the decals, though…

If it’s going to be a real 1911, it’s going to need to be at least minimally fitted. Most aftermarket parts don’t always just drop-in. At least that is my limited (50+ years) experience.

LOVE IT…..WW2 BUFF….WILL GET ONE FOR SHORE

It looks like some kid put some decals from a model plane on the gun. It looks awful. I’d be embarrassed to take it to the range and shoot it.

That’s fine if you’re into this kind of thing. But that MSRP… almost double their usual price for a hinky paint job? Nope.

Not my cup of tea. If i had one given to me I would blast it and park it before it ever saw the light of day.

The Flying Tigers were a volunteer group flying for the Chinese military before we ever entered WWII. It would be more appropriate to have the Chinese star instead of the American star. That didn’t come until later.

Auto Ordnance makes a fine 1911, but this looks ridiculous. How embarrassing.

Bottom line-how well does it work? How well does the standard Auto-Ordnance 1911 work? Anybody here ever own one? I like the old school 1911 and was thinking about getting one. Don’t want a lot of bells and whistles, just one that’s the best for the money.

i have one, its ran flawlessly for 13 years. havent had a single problem. later on i put some custom pieces in it and most had to be fitted to it.

It gets my thumbs up vote. Good thought

it looks photoshopped. I’m huge WWII enthusiast but not feeling this concept for the 1911. Call me traditional.

  • ScranunSlim August 17, 2018, 10:48 am

    HOKEY bordering on CHILDISH

  • Virginia Shooter August 17, 2018, 9:54 am

This is an interesting concept, but unfortunately not well executed.
