Auto-Ordnance, the company behind today’s Thompson rifles and carbines, is teaming up with Outlaw Ordnance to bring us the Bonnie & Clyde Tommy gun. This limited edition rifle is based on the 1927-pattern Thompson engraved and dressed up with a custom rust Cerakote finish.

“The Roaring Twenties created fame and notoriety for a new breed of outlaw,” said Thompson Auto-Ordnance. “These ‘motorized bandits’ roamed open roads, committing crimes and engaging in battles with lawmen devoted to their capture. Perhaps the most famous among them were the outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.”

“These two criminals committed a long string of murders and robberies, ultimately leading to their demise in a fiery ambush by law enforcement officers. Despite their evil ways, both bandits became symbols of the time period and earned a role in American popular culture,” it continued.

Parker, with Barrow at her side, led a violent gang of killers and thieves at the height of the Great Depression. The two were openly romantically involved which drove them into notoriety almost as much as their high-profile murders.

The gang was made famous for killing police officers violently and in cold blood, as well as pulling off several bank robberies. But their bread and butter was holding up small businesses, especially gas stations.

The rifle features engravings of the criminal duo, taken from photos and a wanted poster, as well as headlines of their escapades. The engravings also showcase the Texas Rangers and Frank Hamer, the lawmen that brought the pair down in a fiery showdown.

While Auto-Ordnance offers Thompsons in many caliber options this one’s chambered, rightly, for .45 ACP. The rust finish is actually a protective layer that will ensure that the steel receiver and 18-inch barrel stay in prime condition even if the gun sees a lot of use. The stock, grip and forward pistol grip are all American Walnut.

The Bonnie & Clyde gun was teased earlier this year at the NRA Annual Meeting and is now shipping with one 50-round drum magazine and one 20-round stick. Suggested price is $2,583 although real-wold pricing may be less than that. It is a special edition and probably won’t see the same type of discount as standard models.

Auto-Ordnance has been busy with special editions lately. The company released a series of World War II-commemorative M1 Carbines earlier this year, all with precise laser engravings.

By partnering with Outlaw Ordnance they are taking their finish to the next level. Outlaw Ordnance specializes in custom Cerakote finishes, laser engraving and stippling. The company does one-off work as well, so if you like what you see with the Bonnie & Clyde rifle but have your own gun in mind you can contact them yourself.

I think this a great collectors gun who ever puts out the negative comments about this beautiful gun is probably justpissed off cause they did not get one because there was very few made I’ve was fortunate to get 2of them wanted 3 cause I’ve got three boys would leave them to them for heir-looms
If you think nobody likes them try to find one and purchase it (good luck)

    Hi,

I wasn’t born by 1934 (when Bonnie & Clyde were killed), but practically ALL the nonfiction I’ve ever read about Bonnie & Clyde (written by authors who did loads of research into the lives & deaths of Bonnie & Clyde) seems to make clear that Bonnie & Clyde’s automatic weapon of choice was the BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle), not the Thompson. While the Thompson in this article might make a nice addition to someone’s collection and may be fun to shoot & show, it probably doesn’t really reflect the kind of automatic weapon that Bonnie & Clyde used–at least not much of the time. Just saying. 🙂

Everyone in this world has there opinions that’s what makes the world go around! This rifle like any other rifle or handgun it’s all based off preference, bottom line!!! I bought this rifle because the art work is truly amazing! Everyone who sees it just want to hold and examine every sketching on this beautiful rifle.

  • Ted Schmidt April 22, 2019, 3:47 pm

No, that’s where Barrow and Parker crawled out of and the stench stayed with them until they had to be put down like a pack of rabid dogs. Barrows parents according to some of their friends prayed every night that their son would be stopped.

  • ejharb December 27, 2018, 2:19 pm

    Nice collector piece
    But I want a shooter m1a1.
Sbr or select fire.good either way.
I’ve loved ww2 Tommy’s since my dad made me a toy one out of wood.

  • Aaron Morris December 25, 2018, 10:07 am

It’s back on their website as if 8am Christmas morning (family is still sleeping and I’m bored…)

I’m thinking they took it down just long enough for the hoopla to die down.

My opinion is this, whether we like it or not, The Tommy Gun, Bonnie&Clyde are all Interwoven in our HISTORY which is what it is all about. The HISTORY of the Tommy Gun, is not going to change just because a few panzies want to whine and complain because it has B&C on it. It is not about B&C it is about the gun and some of what made it famous. Personally I applaud and appreciate their willingness to make such a piece, showing the HISTORY of it. Get a life people, you can not change HISTORY by complaining. It is what it is a part of our past and can not be changed. I just wonder how many of the complainers actually own a gun? Me personally if I had the money, I would have it in my collection.

    • Mike V December 20, 2018, 12:16 am

It’s not about Bonnie and Clyde? It’s being sold as the Bonnie and Clyde tommy gun. I’ve seen several advertisements also selling it as the Bonnie and Clyde tommy gun…
It has their likeness on it…
It has their poetry on it…

I doesn’t bother me as much as others actually.

You think that others that don’t like it aren’t real gun owners? I’ve owned a Tommy gun and wouldn’t consider buying this.

    • Aaron Morris December 25, 2018, 10:18 am

Greg, you have it all wrong.

Firearm owners are not the type to want to forget history, we embrace it, we read it and remember it. The reason most of the comments about this firearm are negative boils down to 2 things.
      1. B&C were criminals and killed several LEOs and who knows how many innocent people. The selling of this firearm for profit capitalized on that.
      2. It is a generally ridiculous gun that the pro gun control crowd could use against us saying things like ‘…gun owners don’t care about innocent lives and would readily purchase a replica of a mass murder weapon used by some of the nations most notorious criminals…’ or whatever drivel you want to come up with. It make firearm owners like me and YOU look like fools.

  • King December 16, 2018, 5:31 pm

Wow bonnie and clyde killed innocent people and you make a commemorative Thompson. You stupid fu#c$is. Your ego is what will now bankrupt you. My colt reminds me of what makes this country great not the scum that deserved to die by law abiding citizens. Sham on you bastRds.

    • Slim December 17, 2018, 8:56 am

Let me guess you don’t support people who have a 9/11 sticker on their cars too huh?! Bonnie and Clyde whether you like it or not existed and are apart of our history. And so is the Thompson they used along their spree of fun and yes murders too. And let’s not forget they never got a trial or even a fair fight as they gave to all their victims as they were cowardly ambushed by coward bit€h a$$ cops and instead were massacred using this exact Thompson you hate so much! Remember… Not all people want to be kiss asses and live their lives in a cookie cutter type USA existence. Some want to be TRULY FREE and do as they please no matter who tells them it’s right or not. FYI… It was up to the police to stop them from jump so who do you really blame for all the deaths? Just like Vegas… TWO cops knew EXACTLY which room that tool was in and NEITHER ONE had enough balls to take their sorry asses up the stairs to stop him! They CHOSE to let thr guy go on as long as he felt like it till he killed himself or Vegas could of been a REAL disaster if he had sat there for ANOTHER 30 some odd minutes mowing down more and more people before the FIRST cops even hit the floor he was on! Blame the shooter first, then blame the cops for EVERY person shot or hurt in ANY WAY after they’ve been told there’s a shooter. It’s their JOB to defend is at ANY COST EVEN THEIR LIVES! They SIGN UP to be cops but in all reality are pu$$y’s that just want the power and NONE of the REAL RISK that comes with the tin badge on their chests. Like the coward cop in think it was in Fl that sat behind a wall while a shooter shot thr school up… Real cop he is! Blame the right people for the actions they take or don’t! There’s ALWAYS going to be looms out there and that’s why the police exist to stop them BEFORE they can do ANY MASS ANYTHING!

      • Mike V December 17, 2018, 11:51 am

9-11 stickers you reference are not 9-11 terrorist commeritives. Big difference.

Fair fight? Your kidding right. Any action that concludes with an innocent person losing their property or life could hardly be considered fair. The fair thing would have been no fight at all.

“FYI… It was up to the police to stop them from jump so who do you really blame for all the deaths? ”

        I blame them, the perpetrators.

Inept law enforcement is not societies hall pass for criminal activity.

  • John Gacy December 16, 2018, 2:20 pm

I can’t wait for my Jeffrey Dahmer picnic dinng set…..

  • Adam Freeman December 15, 2018, 3:01 pm

Thank God for Guns America offering us the chance to post comments and feedback! Kahr/AO JUST TOOK THIS POS OFF THEIR WEBSITE!!!!

VICTORY to WE the CONSUMERS who don’t need to be force fed this sort of repugnant crap just because somebody at Outlaw Ordnance had a couple extra kegs of Rusty Cerakote and way too much weed.

Honestly, I’d bet everyone here following this thread would LOVE to know the scenario that “birthed” this turd. I seriously doubt it would be nearly as riveting story as that which John Moses Browning experienced when he first attempted to negotiate his brand new autoloading shotgun to Remington. You know – JMB is out in the hall, waiting for the scheduled meeting with Marcellus Hartley – and Hartley croaks of a heart attack!

No, I think it was not at all that interesting. Way, WAY dumber. In fact let’s coin a new phrase – like when Fonzie “Jumped the Shark”….oh no that’s been taken.

    Waitaminnit….Kahr/AO….have they….? Jumped the Shark?

Stay tuned, Cerakote/laser-etched fans of wasted talent!

  • Adam Freeman December 15, 2018, 2:24 pm

@Aaron Morris, thanks for the information – that the AO/Kahr folks actually took heed of these public comments. I can’t help but think “the internet did something good today!” by encouraging a popular gun manufacturer to reconsider one of their products so promptly.
Now, to follow up in the news to learn about whether this crass product purely designed to make short-term profit has not made a long-term problem for Kahr/AO in losing market share and customers. Just who in the gun-loving world would even ask for such a garish embarrassment of a formerly classic design to be hand-built?
This affair completely brings to mind every hideous monstrosity I’ve ever burned my eyes on via GunBroker with any pimped-out Mosin Nagant/Kar98/random old pump shotgun chromed and laden with twinky rhinestones. Don’t make me remember those epic fails, Kahr!

Thanks for showing self-control. Just make good guns that shoot, stop making barrels longer than 16″ and I wish you only made SBR’s anyway. TETO!

    Adam

  • john roark December 15, 2018, 1:41 pm

What’s next? The Adam Lanza AR-15?

  • Kb31416 December 15, 2018, 11:21 am

I was going to post about what a stupid idea this is at every level, but a legion of people beat me to it, so I will just add to the chorus.
    What idiots.

  • Adam Freeman December 15, 2018, 7:20 am

Oh my goodness. Those folks over at Kahr sure had some creative time to kill, didn’t they? All I’m really concerned about, besides the lack of judgment and self-control, is this: what in the world would my shooting buddies say when I showed up at the WMA range with this. Here are a few possible responses I can think of:

    1. “Hey bro, nice….um….gun you got there, dude. You OK?”
    2. “Man, did you forget your meds today? Need some help?”
    3. “I bet you left your glasses at home when you bought this, right?”
    4. “Is that something my 8-year-old can get at the toy section in WalMart?”
    5. “We can’t let you come to the range anymore. Goodbye.”

  • Greg Turner December 15, 2018, 2:14 am

Must of been a non gun person that came up with this idea- to honor actual two bit murders ( Dillinger took more in one robbery than they took in the whole pathetic careers) with a weapon that looks like literal trash – WTF over?

  • Aaron Morris December 14, 2018, 11:26 pm

After emailing with AO a few times…

“After you emailed me the second time i went back to read the comments, there were many more than the first time I looked.

It truly made stop and think about the impact of this product. We looked at it differently than those commenting – we are telling a story of the history of the tommy gun…. but I totally respect your thoughts, and the many others in those comments.

So I brought this matter to the attention of our VP staff and the owner today.

We are changing direction on this product, and going back to focusing on our real mission, which is honoring LE, Military, Veterans, 2A community, gun owners and the like.

I do appreciate you taking the time to send the message directly to us”

  • KO December 14, 2018, 10:17 pm

Almost as dumb as every movie ever made where the heroes/protagonists are criminals. Yay for pop-culture idiocy entering the gun-enthusiast realm.

  • Wrongway December 14, 2018, 8:54 pm

WOW… what a backlash… Regardless of the crimes that Bonnie and Clyde committed, they were, in fact, pretty much “folk heroes” of their day, and whether or not they used a Thompson, I did not read the article to interpret they were “good guys” or that it was intended as such… And, contrary to all these comments, I did not find the gun to be so disagreeable… Had I the funds, I would not mind having one to add to my collection… With or without all the engraving stuff… Perhaps a lot of these comments come from other than those of us who believe responsible people can own guns…

  • Chris Cline December 14, 2018, 8:32 pm

This is REALLY disgusting! So, Auto-Ordinance wants to be known as a gun manufacturer which GLORIFIES criminals and MURDERERS?! I LOVE the Tommy gun, it is the quintessential AMERICAN gun of its type, right up there with the Colt Peacemaker. Why couldn’t they make a commemorative gun of Elliott Ness and his team, or just the anti-mob cops in general?! They DID use the Tommy to take down the mob and gangsters! Really BAD marketing decision and NOT the image that the firearms industry needs for GODS sake!!! That’s like handing the anti-gun community a loaded gun to shoot yourself in the foot with! DUMB! Auto-Ordinance should scrap this plan and pull ALL of these “Bonnie and Clyde” Tommy’s which have been built from entering the market! And anyway, who the hell would EVER pay more than $2000 for a gun painted to look RUSTY?!!!!! NOT I!!!!

  • Willie Smith December 14, 2018, 8:16 pm

This is all very well and good, except for one thing: Bonnie and Clyde N.E.V.E.R used an M1927 Thompson. They used Browning Automatic Rifles…. The B.A.R. was Clyde’s favorite machine gun, and he would rob National Guard armories to get them.

  • bill December 14, 2018, 8:07 pm

Bonnie & Clyde never used a Tommy gun……………

  • dave December 14, 2018, 5:38 pm

If you are going to reference the famous ranger who took out Bonnie and Clyde,at least spell his name right. It,s HAMER,not Hammer.

  • KENNETH ROBERTSON JR December 14, 2018, 5:12 pm

Bonnie and Clyde didn’t shoot a “Tommy Gun.” They were taken out with several though!!!

  • Gazzmo December 14, 2018, 4:41 pm

Looks like a lot of effort went into developing this absolute piece of crap. This defines the intersection of poor executive judgement and stupidity. I can’t believe this shit. AO needs to internalize these negative responses and fire the A-holes involved ASAP.

  • Mike in a Truck December 14, 2018, 4:19 pm

Oh how we drove our Battery Commander bug crap. Every time we drew our 16’s from the arms room for Range Day we begged him to bring along the two Tommy Guns so that we could shoot them. “No dammit No!” “Ya wanna get me fired?” They were scheduled for Depot Level Demill. Shame. Yeah, no-I think the finish on this A.O. is ugly.

  • Rick December 14, 2018, 2:17 pm

I own an Auto-Ordinance Tommy Gun…and would never buy this. The comments above nail it. A. Glorifies criminals B. Looks like a rusty POS C. Same old long barrel. I can’t imagine why anyone would buy this…the carbine is already heavy and clunky to operate…why anyone would also want it to look rusted and glorify murders is beyond me. my guess is that they didn’t conduct much market research.

  • Silverbullet December 14, 2018, 2:12 pm

Whoops what an ugly gun first. It’s being sold as a Bonnie x Clyde gun is just do wrong , the BAR maybe. But not to real gun owners we don’t like death glorified . Hunting to eat or worse self defence is hard enough. Even when I hunted it wasn’t to just kill . I hunted over ten years before my first deer kill . I used every bit I could so it wasn’t wasted . Sorry but this guns a big NO for me

  • George December 14, 2018, 12:50 pm

Will never purchase another item from this company , ( manure for brains )

  • Bill December 14, 2018, 12:43 pm

While reading this article I wondered if anyone else would agree with my thoughts. It seems that everyone did.

    • Willie Smith December 14, 2018, 8:18 pm

Yep. They didn’t do their research, or they’d have known Clyde hated Thompson’s and wouldn’t use them, lol.

  • Norm Fishler December 14, 2018, 12:15 pm

I seem to recall Charter Arms marketing a pair of snubbies called the Bonnie & Clyde set. This deserves an honored spot right next to that abomination to be known as a world class cranial/rectal inversion.

  • Bob B December 14, 2018, 12:13 pm

It’s Fugly and inappropriate, besides which Barrow preferred a sawed off BAR.

  • Gary A. May December 14, 2018, 11:28 am

If I woke up with my arm around this gun, I would have to amputate my arm.

  • Charles Freeman December 14, 2018, 11:21 am

So, when is the Osama Bin Ladin commemorative AK 47 coming out with the Twin Towers crashing down? This is the dumbest idea any gun maker has ever come up with.

  • Reg December 14, 2018, 11:11 am

My fellow gun owners & I seem to be in complete agreement – it is incredibly inappropriate to glorify cold-blooded murderers in this way (“Coming soon from AO..the Lee Harvey Oswald/Sirhan Sirhan collection”). This is just the kind of thing that the gun control advocates will jump on to bolster their contention that gun owners are all slavering beasts. In addition, this gun is nothing short of hideous (correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t gun owners spend lots of time and money to keep guns FROM looking rusty..or am I the only one?).

  • Bill Rowe December 14, 2018, 11:06 am

This brainfart will go down as the Auto Ordnance version of the “New Coke”.

  • Gatorade96 December 14, 2018, 10:58 am

I usually read these articles and sometimes the comments. This time I felt I had to comment.

Glorifying cop killers and murderers is not something I support or would ever support. This is akin to an Adam Lanza edition AR. At the least it is poor taste and the worst it is villain worship and just makes gun owners look bad for it. Anti gun legislation is being proposed left and right and now we will see this as glorifying bad buys with guns.

    Bonehead move AO.

  • Clint W. December 14, 2018, 10:51 am

OK, pondered the comments on honoring ‘cop killers’ by the introduction of this. At first thought they were a bit over the top, but, then put it in perspective of nobody would come out with a commemorative Lee Harvey Oswald 6.5×52mm Carcano Model 91/38. This Tommy gun, besided being an ugly reproduction, the lines of the Thompson was forever ruined with that stupid government mandated barrel length.

  • Bonnie and Clyde Ambush Museum December 14, 2018, 10:46 am

One of these should be presented to the Bonnie and Clyde Ambush museum in Gibsland,La.

  • SuperG December 14, 2018, 10:35 am

Of all the tributes one can make, to decide to pay tribute to and glorify murderers, has to be the most disgusting tribute one can make. It is an insult to every honest American. It is an insult to every lawman across the globe, and it is an insult to the memory of those victimized by these contemptible scumbags. I realize that companies and Congressmen will do anything for a shiny nickle, but I never thought that one would go this low. It is a sad day in America.

  • Charles Curtin December 14, 2018, 9:58 am

When reading the article, I was thinking “WTF!” is this for real? At least I see that everyone here agrees with me. What a POS.

  • FirstStateMark December 14, 2018, 9:56 am

That does it. I’ll NEVER buy a gun from Auto-Ordnance. Promoting cop killers. Anything to make a buck.

  • Brad December 14, 2018, 9:55 am

Oh my god…as an owner and fan of Kahr pistols, I am embarrased by this hideous at every level Bonnie and Clyde commemorative Thompson. Kahr employees responsible for this, pull your head out of your asses.

  • Charlie December 14, 2018, 9:47 am

It is my understanding that these criminals NEVER used a Tommy Gun in their criminal activities. Clyde was very fond or the Bar in 30-06 caliber . He would steel them and shorten the barrels so they would not be as readily detected and easier to hide. So this is not a true representation of the type of firearm these mental defective two would have used. Distortion of history to say the least.

  • Jerry S. December 14, 2018, 9:35 am

Will never look or be a “Tommy Gun” with that ugly, long, and displeasing barrel…..sorry.

  • aaron morris December 14, 2018, 9:24 am

Agree wholeheartedly with the comments. Terrible idea and it looks ridiculous. It’s just bad on several different levels. Everyone should email AO and let them know that law abiding firearms owners are appalled by this commemorative of cop killers.

  • Bob December 14, 2018, 8:16 am

Great comments and I certainly agree. One of the ugliest guns ever and only outmatched by the stupidity of the designers…honoring criminal cop killers?

  • RBC December 14, 2018, 8:10 am

This is what happens when an executive with too much power in a company, comes up with an absolutely stupid idea and nobody below them has the balls to tell them just how bad it really is. Everyone just nods and does their job! Extremely poor taste, design and execution. I do have a feeling that the value of this POS will go up right away as hopefully only ONE was ever made!

  • singleshotcajun December 14, 2018, 7:59 am

Greatgoshamighty. How about a Frank Hammer Remington Model 8 commemorative.

    • Adam Freeman December 15, 2018, 7:31 am

Thank you for thinking of not only the GOOD GUYS but also the fabulous Remington Model 8. I enjoy 4 variations of this fine rifle, one is a 1906 Model 8 in .35 Rem. I have two Model 81’s in.32 Remington and .300 Savage, one Model 81 in .30 Remington, and a third 81 that is a Krieger magazine conversion in .300 Savage.
None of them need to be desecrated like these Kahr guns!!

  • Tim December 14, 2018, 7:31 am

I think Auto Ordinance has jumped the shark. Who comes up with these ideas. Cheesy looking laser engraving on an M1 carbine and now this awful looking thing.

  • Texas Twostep December 14, 2018, 7:24 am

So, Auto Ordinance thought it would be great to make a firearm commemorating people who killed police officers, leaving their wives without husbands and children without fathers? This us a horrible idea. While a lot of time has passed, it doesn’t change the nature of the crime. I am sure there are still people alive today who can point to Bonnie and Clyde as their duo who murdered their grandfather or great grandfather.

This would be like, in several years, if some company made a Columbine massacre commemorative firearm. Horrible and in poor taste.

Let’s celebrate heroes. You know, people who risked and/or gave their lives protecting citizens domestically or protecting our freedoms in battle.

  • Gary December 14, 2018, 7:23 am

This has to be the stupidest idea anyone EVER dreamed up!
Anyone that takes one of Americas best known firearms, and turns it into a monument for murderers has to be a complete moron!
At least they made it look like the Turd it really is! KAHR should be ashamed of themselves.
What’s next? A John Dillinger .45 1911?? It would make about as much sense!

  • BigC December 14, 2018, 7:17 am

Who in their right mind would buy that hideous POS???

  • Steven December 14, 2018, 7:16 am

Clyde would not use such a light round, he would only use the BAR. Law enforcement would use the Thompson and get defeated due to the Barrow Gang’s use of the BAR. Not one Thompson was found in their possession when they were killed.
Ugly gun – rotted wood and rusted metal!
    Great research on the history.
They are criminals – destroy all of these!
I am 100% for the 2nd Amendment by the way and against criminal activity.

  • Chuck December 14, 2018, 7:08 am

    Dear Gunsamerica,
If you guys could make sure you send a message to Auto Ordinace with a link to these comments, that would be great. – What dipshit came up with this idea? “Let’s memorialize the mindless ramblings of a cop-killing whore, on a poop colored gun!”- said the Auto Ordinace marketing team.

  • Randall Rottschafer December 14, 2018, 7:02 am

How Stupid! Next the Lee Harvey Oswald Pistol? Perfect ammo for the anti-gun people.

  • Forrest December 14, 2018, 6:58 am

Next up, the Hillary model. Glowing faux uanium finish. Laser engravings of Vince Foster and special forces operators who lost their lives at Benghazi. Complete with a Russian red reset button and selected emails pulled from her private server.

  • Bill December 14, 2018, 6:46 am

Inappropriate and ugly. VP of marketing should get the pink slip.

  • Jay Jay December 14, 2018, 6:44 am

looks like a lot of time invested in a gun that looks like some one wiped their ass with

  • Chick December 14, 2018, 5:02 am

WHy would any gun manufacture memorialize the criminals, like Bonnie and Clyde, who killed so many innocent people? I hope all law abiding gun owners like myself, stand up to condemn Auto Ordnance for this act of stupidity.

  • Dave December 14, 2018, 3:45 am

UGLY, NASTY! this shoukd win an award for the worst idea and finish ever. Looks like they were pulled from the pit of an OUTHOUSE.
