With a little help from Beretta, Sako ammunition is now available in the U.S. Beretta began importing ammo from Sako Cartridges earlier this month and availability is just around the corner.
The launch will include six new cartridge families developed by Sako, including TRG Precision, Powerhead Blade, Gamehead Pro, Gamehead, Speedhead, and Super Hammerhead lines of ammunition. These cartridges will be offered in popular rifle chamberings for range use, self-defense, and hunting.

“Utilizing the latest computer-aided R&D and CNC manufacturing methods, each case goes through a series of automatic and manual inspections to ensure the high-quality cases become the most accurate and consistent cartridges available to the modern shooter,” said Sako. “In addition, due to a proprietary heat treatment method and zero impurities of the case material, Sako cartridges have the industry’s highest reloadability and pressure resistance, maximizing the lifespan and safety of any rifle.”
The TRG Precision line uses open tip, boat tail match bullets designed around competition and long-range shooting, optimized for accuracy and consistency. Sako will initially offer TRG Precision cartridges in .260 Remington, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester and .338 Lapua Magnum.
The Powerhead Blade uses a lead-free polymer-tipped expanding bullet made for taking medium and large game. The ductile copper bullet has an internal cavity to promote expansion while retaining weight on impact. Initial loads will be offered in 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win., .30-06 Springfield, and .300 Win. Gamehead and Gamehead Pro are hunting cartridges for medium and smaller game. Gamehead uses a soft-point Spitzer round and will only be offered in .243 Win., while the Pro series use Sierra GameChanger bullets in .270 Win., 6.5mm Precision Rifle Cartridge and 7mm Rem. Mag.
The Speerhead cartridge is a straightforward .223 Rem. target shooting cartridge with a full metal jacket projectile. However, like other Sako brands it’s built around accuracy and consistency, specifically for match shooting like 3-Gun. It’s also a slightly softer-shooting round for less recoil and faster follow-up shots.
Finally, Beretta and Sako are also bringing the Super Hammerhead hunting cartridge to the U.S. market. The Super Hammerhead uses a heavy jacketed, non-fragmenting bullet for controlled expansion. It’s also loaded with longer projectiles for better ballistics and flat shooting. The Super Hammerhead will be offered in 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x55mm Swedish, .270 and .308 Win. and .30-06 Springfield.
