A crime spree in Beverly Hills, California, has residents of the historically antigun city flocking to the town’s only gun store while Black Americans in the area struggle to protect themselves, according to a new report from Fox News.

A string of robberies, home invasions, and one execution-style murder has prompted many wealthy Beverly Hills residents to purchase firearms for the first time.

“Although that is a part of my living, I get no pleasure whatsoever by having a 60-, 70-year-old woman walk into my store … who looks terrified, and say, ‘I have never liked guns. In fact, I’ve even hated guns. I would have never considered buying one. But I’m so afraid for my life,’” Beverly Hills Guns owner Russell Stuart told Fox. “Especially women who live on their own.”

Stuart’s report aligns with reports from other gun store owners throughout the pandemic and especially since the riots in the summer of 2020. First-time gun owners are looking to protect themselves from rising rates of violent crime but are often shocked to discover how difficult it is to purchase a handgun in many jurisdictions.

In California, carrying that handgun outside the home is even more difficult. The state’s “good cause” requirement forces applicants for concealed carry permits to prove they have a valid reason to carry. Since the local law enforcement officer is charged with approving applications, gun rights in the Golden State often depend on geography, as GunsAmerica has reported previously.

According to Black gun owners, that fact prohibits armed self-defense in those communities that need it most.

“The gun control laws here are set up and intended to disproportionately affect those within the minority communities,” Geneva Solomon, the co-owner of Black-owned Redstone Firearms in Los Angeles County’s Burbank, told Fox.

Solomon believes local law enforcement officers are influenced by “underlying bias” when making determinations for concealed carry permits.

“If the single parent is walking home and can’t prove that they’re ‘important’ by having money or high-value items taken from them, it may be really hard,” she said. “Which goes back to the ‘just cause’ requirement of the insurance of the CCW. Having ‘just cause’ is too big of a gray area. That means it’s up for interpretation of the person interviewing you and can lead to underlying bias.”

Maj Toure, the founder of Black Guns Matter, agrees with Solomon’s assessment. “Gun control in this place called America was created to stop melanated beings from having the means to exercise their human right,” he said.

“All of this stuff that you see right now is just that, ‘Oh, we’re wealthy, we can just go buy [guns],’” Toure added. “But yet and still, the areas that have the most crime have the most restrictive gun laws.”

With the Democratic party holding a supermajority in the state legislature, it’s unlikely that gun laws in California will reverse course any time soon. But there have been some bright spots. LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva vowed to issue more concealed handgun permits amid rising violent crime rates, and support for gun control in the state has slipped in the past 12 months.

Jf protecting your Children, loved ones and your own life is not “Just cause” I do not know what is.

  • sfvshooter January 21, 2022, 2:24 pm

It’s not lost on me the same group of people who love their confederate flags, oppose removing Civil War statues, and support Trump care about people of color when it comes to 2A rights.

I guess some people have no shame.

    • KetchumKenny January 22, 2022, 8:46 am

I guess you got your proof it’s is not a race thing. It’s a conservative vs liberal thing.

    • Hondo January 22, 2022, 11:24 am

You are a know nothing clown with a bad case of TDS, run alone you mental midget.

It sounds nice to read and hear that the Sheriff is handing out CCWs but it’s still wishful thinking. L.A. County makes it very difficult to get a CCW because it’s a may issue county in theory, but actually a no issue county in practice. I know of one person with previous record who got one but I suspect he and others who got one oiled the wheels with “gifts”. If you bribe the right people, they’ll open up difficult doors for you. I had\have a perfect record and even took the required CCW course before applying. I wanted to show good faith and wanted a modicum of training before applying. I was denied. We shouldn’t have to beg to bear arms. If something happens to us or our loved ones and we weren’t armed, police will only come to write up a report while we’ll have to live with regret the rest of our lives…if we come out alive from the incident.

    • sfvshooter January 21, 2022, 2:21 pm

You haven’t been keeping up with what Villanueva has been doing.

Google calguns and CCW and you’ll see many people have received CCW’s in Los Angeles County. Granted, it’s still minor compared to Ventura, Kern, and other surrounding counties, but the old belief that it’s impossible to get a CCW in L.A. no longer applies.

      • Hondo January 22, 2022, 11:21 am

Calguns does have some good info for sure, although their gun forum is full of Whiney little bitches like Kestrol.

We need a White Gun Owners national group since forming one for blacks is obviously acceptable. Why does the author of this article capitalize ‘black’?

  • Tallwoods January 21, 2022, 12:02 pm

This is the stupidest reasoning I have ever heard, and in this day and age, that is exceptionally stupid indeed! They are completely failing to recognize that lower income urbanites tend to vote democratic, and democrats don’t trust their constituents, so they restrict guns. They get the gun laws they voted for. It is not a racist issue, it is a low information voter issue.

    Interesting view.
Sounds like white privilege does not equate to racism?

Is not the media ran by non-hispanic white?
Is not our government ran by non-hispanic white?
Is not our history books, written and published by non-hispanic white?
Is not our national police force mostly non-hispanic white?
Slave masters in America, historically..were they not mostly non-hispanic white?
The civil war, created by non-hispanic white?
Government response to Covid and created vaccines, mostly non-hispanic white benefitted (congress insider trading)
Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, bin laden…. Wars created by non-hispanic whites.
Drug issues in America (opium, cocaine imported/Reagan era and retailed) by non-hispanic whites
The rich, non-hispanic white man(Epstein) that was flying all the other rich, non-hispanic white men to Mexico and Latin islands to have sex with under age girls

    If I may continue…
American mass shootings (mostly non-hispanic white)
Jan. 6th March, mostly white Hispanic

Odd there is “black on black crime” statistics…but they don’t release or promote “white on white” crime statistics..

Yet in prison, the population with the most aggravated crimes (rape, murder) would be non-hispanic white. Yet the prison’s largest population is made up of minorities with lesser crimes.
    Interesting right?

When you think of the history of America, and how through terrorism we broke away from BRITAIN in the late 1700’s, and the pictures of what our forefathers did to the Native Americans who helped them, to the slaves that helped them (Indians murdered for land, slaves used to enrich the state that was stolen) and look at our nation today. And yes, I say OUR nation.

Black people inherently love other races and especially white people. We are excepted all over the world. We work in Non-hispanic white America where most businesses and commerce and illegal activities are produced, and manufactured by the non-hispanic elites.

Do you see minorities burning down McDonald’s? Do you see minorities posted at gas stations to rob you?
Do you see minorities raping people on city busses?
No ..but you see minorities primarily holding the positions in these institutions owned by non-hispanic whites.

You can ignore history and say it doesn’t count. But American History was written by non-hispanic whites to give non-hispanic whites the feeling of superiority. When you see that the glory taught you is as disgraceful as the minorities seen in our children’s history books hanging from trees, that the first police officers in America were formed to find and kill innocent slaves trying to escape into freedom (in free America since 1776), that the Native American who fed and clothed the earliest settlers were imprisoned, raped and murder for their land and resources. How can you say it’s not racial?

Maybe it is 2022, so you think it’s even for all american’s now. Really?

Why do all the new applications list as choice for race: wh/non-hispanic white?

Because you have sold your race and our nation into a lie!

How can you call this a Nation under God, when you see the wrongs and defend it because it is easier?

    • KetchumKenny January 22, 2022, 8:48 am

I see evidence and statistics of a lot of black crime. What the heck are you rambling on about?

  • Mauser6863 January 21, 2022, 8:21 am

I lived in California for decades, since I was around 2 years old. Great place destroyed by Socialist/Communist polices over many, many years. Moved to Arizona in 2012 and I should have done it in 1981 after graduating high school.

The way the concealed handgun laws work in California, its entirely up to the local police in the city you live or have a business. In Southern California, most agencies would never issue. In the rural parts of the state, many will issue and wealthy people would buy a cabin or a condo in these areas and use that as their principal address so they and their family members could get a concealed carry permit, that is good state wide. If they are really rich, they have professional armed security 24/7, who are professionally licensed and can carry concealed firearms.

Back in the 1960’s and 1970’s celebrities, friends and political donors of the Sheriff or Police Chief would just be handed concealed weapon permits in Southern California with little or no trouble. A couple of times connected celebrities and others were arrested for having a concealed firearm on their person or in their glove box, usually after getting pulled over for driving under the influence, Permits would get issued for these folks and back dated before their arrest, as it was the pre-computer days, they could get away with it.

In Arizona, open carry has been legal since the Spanish ran the place. Around 1992 or so, we got concealed carry permits and now we are Constitutional Carry, Open or Concealed with no permit required. Permits do have advantages. In 2017 sat in a 4 hour class, got fingerprinted and sent in the application and around $60 (I think), Received my permit in the mail in around 30 days or so. The permit is good for 5 years (Or $1.00 a month). Simple and easy and I get to by-pass the NICS when buying a firearm, as well.

California is doomed and there is no hope of it being saved. I you live there, move and go live in a free state. Better quality of life, law and order and clean streets that are safe. Everyone has a boat load of excuses why they can’t move, job, family, etc. Jobs are easy to find now and the amount of money needed to have the same or even better quality of life is much less than California. Go where you will be treated best.

    • Mark K January 21, 2022, 3:41 pm

NO! Don’t move out. Clean up your own (California) state. If you don’t like the policies, grow a pair, tell your neighbors they’re nuts to keep on that way and persuade them you’re right. Then the policies will get changed. If you move to a free state (Arizona or Texas, for two examples) and then keep voting like you’re doing in California, you’re just going to spread that cancer wider in the nation. DON’T move out of California. FIX IT INSTEAD!!

  • Dr Motown January 21, 2022, 8:01 am

So, the rich libs of Beverly Hills, who’ve been lecturing us for decades about gun control, “ghost guns,” “universal background checks,” etc are now “shocked” with how difficult it is to legally purchase a gun in their state….LMAO! But, come next election, they’ll line up to pull that straight-party “D” lever as they always do

    • Mauser6863 January 21, 2022, 8:28 am

During the Rodney King Riots, the liberals flocked to the Gun Stores, only to be told that California had a 15 day waiting period to get a gun. “But, I’m a good person, those laws shouldn’t apply to me”, “Can you sell it to me under the table”, “I need a gun now, to protect my family, not in two weeks”. The city was burning and these people came face to face with the reality of their political choices. Their solution was to keep voting for the DemoRats and keep having faith that everything will just get better. “Stupid is as Stupid Does”

  • David G. Leli January 21, 2022, 6:56 am

Little by little, the persons who voted Democrat all their life. Are realizing that the Democrat party really don’t give a cr*p about them. Utopia is failing, and California has a very long fall.

You answered your own question Ashlee and you aren’t wrong. The media pushes this nonsense. This “article” is crap and the same old status quo muh racism, basically the Democrats around the clock. How incredibly boring. Poor is poor and has nothing to do with race. Work harder and win. End of story.

    • Mark January 21, 2022, 6:49 am

Poor is poor is right but poor and minority go hand and hand so being poor is a race issue. I agree and hate that everything is about race, but many of the shall issue states do exactly what he said they do. NYC is one of them and I live in NYS. If you don’t have wads of cash and aren’t rich you won’t get a carry permit or a special use permit AKA business carry permit. If you claim there is a threat against your life you essentially had better have a recording of someone saying they are going to kill you and a police report. Even then you need to reapply every year for the carry permit and prove it’s need in NYC. I have a NYC carry permit and funny thing is NYC doesn’t honor it?? What? really, how can that be, but it says it right on my permit, not valid in the 5 Burroughs of NYC.

    • Dr Motown January 21, 2022, 7:59 am

Would like to see some real statistics here: percentage of “rich white” applicants issued CPLs vs “poor minority” applicants. Otherwise, just another race-baiting “opinion”…..

  • Ashlee January 13, 2022, 3:16 pm

Let me start off saying not to be rude but I’m calling racism coming from the Black gun store owner and the Black Guns Matter gentleman. White people are turned down everyday for CCW’s and guns. Poor people who are White, Black, Asian, etc. are getting guns with saved up money so not just the rich are getting them. Why is it everything that happens is due to “racism” when talking to Blacks? Why do some Blacks live in the “victims mode” their whole life while others live happy go lucky lives? I wish those Black’s who live in the blame mode would stop and fight the problems not whine and push on others! Lets face it CA is a lost cause no matter what your color/race/religion/creed is unless your an illegal or a Democrat then your safe from the problems Democrats created there.

    • Blue Dog (he/him) January 13, 2022, 9:59 pm

You are right, Ashlee. These guys get all bent out of shape about left-leaning race hustling but as soon as they think it will help their cause, they lower themselves with the same race tactics.
