Billy Johnson Needs Your Help ‘Protecting Liberty’

NRA News commentator and filmmaker Billy Johnson is a great guy.  We had a chance to talk to him at the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits.  Right now, Billy is fundraising for a documentary called “Protecting Liberty” on Kickstarter.

It sounds awesome, but to get off the ground he needs your help.

I know, everyone these days seems to be trying to get a piece of your pocketbook.  But in terms of putting dollars behind a great cause, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a better project or a smarter advocate to back.

Check out what he has to say.  I think it will resonate.  Here’s an excerpt from the campaign on Kickstarter:

When it comes to violence, the United States has a great story to tell. Violent crime in the U.S. has fallen by over 50% in the last 20 years.* Yep, you read that right. Our streets, homes, and children are safer today than they were 20 years ago. But the media never talks about that. Don’t you wonder why?

Despite this dramatic decrease in violent crime, a majority of Americans will tell you that violence is epidemic and that crime is on the rise.

And as our fear of violent crime rises, so too does the ever rabid push for increasingly stringent controls on gun ownership.

The right to keep and bear arms is preserved in the United States Constitution. The media-fed misperception that we are less safe, and that guns are the cause, has been used repeatedly to deny that constitutional right. To push our political leaders and our fellow citizens to demonize that right.

It’s time we take an honest look at the true state of violence in America, what causes it, and what we are doing to decrease it.

That’s my goal for Protecting Liberty, a feature-length documentary produced and directed by me, Billy Johnson. In this film, I will interview experts, advocates, and naysayers. I will reveal why we have such a widespread misperception about violent crime. And, I will argue that violence is driven by several things, but gun ownership isn’t one of them…
