Boebert’s New Bill Would Abolish the ATF

in News

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has once again made headlines by introducing legislation aimed at abolishing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Known for her vocal stance on Second Amendment rights, Boebert has been a consistent critic of the agency, calling out its overreach and heavy-handed regulatory actions.

In a recent address (see above), Boebert didn’t hold back, stating, “We don’t trust the ATF because of their overreaching actions.”

This latest move, through HR 129 filed for the 119th Congress, underscores her continued commitment to reigning in what she sees as an unchecked federal bureaucracy.

The bill has been referred to the Judiciary Committee, where it will face its first major hurdle.

Boebert’s supporters argue that the ATF’s growing power in rulemaking (e.g. bump stocks, “ghost guns,” pistol braces) often bypassing Congress to impose restrictions on law-abiding gun owners, is a significant threat to constitutional rights.

Critics, on the other hand, are likely to frame this as an extreme measure, claiming that the ATF plays a crucial role in law enforcement and public safety.

But for pro-2A advocates, this legislation represents a necessary step in holding federal agencies accountable and ensuring they operate within their legal boundaries.

At this stage, the specifics of HR 129 remain unclear. We’re waiting for Congresswoman Boebert’s official press release and the full text of the bill to break down the details. Stay tuned.

This wouldn’t be a problem IF the ATF had stayed what they were supposed to be, a regulatory body with NO police powers. THAT should be and stay the province of the ONLY legal Federal police force, the FBI.
And now how many Federal Agencies have SWAT Teams?????
    Hello Big Brother!

We do not need the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms. Other government agencies can do what they do and so they are not needed.

I am also hoping the Department of Education gets abolished. They were created under Jimmy Carter and education has gotten worse since then. They are also not needed.

I am not sure what the answer is. The ATF does serve a purpose. They are the experts in investigating bombings and they are very good at it. I would hate to see that expertise lost. I am not sure transfering that duty to another agency would be good. The FBI would be the likely agency but they have a full plate and as we have seen their leadership got political too.

Also there are people at the ATF that are very helpful if you call with a question. I mean not everyone there believes guns should be ban. Some of these people are gun people too.

I think the biggest problem with the ATF is their leadership like that of other agencies got political and did whatever was asked of them even if it violated the constitution.

I think most of the rank and file workers were as upset as we were over what their supervision was doing.

It is clear something needs to be done to ensure this never happens again. I just don’t know what the answer is.

I remember the IRS got gutted a number of years back and that did take care of most of the abuse we had seen up until that point. There was clearly a change of attitude for the better throughout the IRS after it happened.

As a State Police Investigator Inworked a number of cases with ATF Agts with highly successful outcomes. Some others, not so much (DEI Agts). An agencyblike this has its place in the scheme of law enforcement but must focus on the criminals, not abiding citizens. Politics has no place in law enforcement and the Constitution mustvbe followed. That is the oath sworn to by every law enforcement officer.

While I do understand her stance, I would prefer to see their powers reigned in and their SWAT team eliminated. They need to get back to HELPING licensed dealers stay in compliance and investigating black market gun sales. Not killing and harassing law abiding citizens.

Wasn’t the BATF created by executive order in the Nixon administration? If so it can be abolished by a stroke of the pen. Why the political grandstanding…..oh wait they never intend to do anything.

Put the ATF out of business like they’ve done thousands if not millions of law abiding citizens! Let them stand in line at the unemployment office, loose everything they own, then on to the IRS!

She’s a lunatic because she voices her opinion? Sounds like you need a refresher in 1A.

  • Brian January 10, 2025, 11:18 am

    Lauren Boebert is a lunatic.

How she holds any government job is beyond me.

And yet, the “lunatic” is correct, so how do you address that? That IS the topic, NOT your opinion on her.
