Last year we gave our readers a sneak peek at the new aluminum-framed handgun from Texas gunmaker Bond Arms. We caught up with them at SHOT Show 2020 to get an update on their much-anticipated firearm and to let you know about another less-expensive version of their popular design.
The new Slim Line handgun will feature an aluminum rather than a steel frame along with a thinner profile, which will reduce the weight from 22oz on their standard models to only 12oz on their new version.
When we spoke to company reps at the NRA show last year, they had only a prototype model available to show us. But now they have a fully tested, production-ready sample, and it looks sweet.
Eminently concealable, the handgun is only 0.55 inches at its widest point. It weighs less than almost any other concealed carry firearm, and its no-nonsense firing mechanism will work each and every time.
Many Bond Arms handguns are chambered in .357 or .45 ACP, but company reps told us that the aluminum-framed model likely won’t be available in anything hotter than 9mm. The gun’s lightweight increases felt recoil, and larger calibers would be, quite literally, too hot to handle. Expect the 9mm model to be available first with a .380 following soon after.

Bond Arms began in 1995 with the idea that the Remington Model 95 over-under, single-action derringer could be converted from an Old West anachronism into a modern and reliable handgun. This new aluminum model might be the next evolution in that idea.
The new release window is between May and June of this year, and MSRP will be right around $350.
If you can’t wait that long to get your hands on a Bond Arms firearm, you should check out the new “Roughneck” model. The Roughneck is constructed with the same high-quality components as other Bond Arms guns, but it isn’t subjected to the usual polishing and hand-finishing process. Company reps told us they can make four Roughnecks for every one of their shinier guns.
As its name implies, the Roughneck isn’t the kind of gun you’ll be hanging on the wall. This is a tackle box gun, as one employee told us, and it’s made to be used and abused and keep on firing.

A decent 2nd weapon and a ok first for those times you think you can go unarmed. In 9mm probably not fun to practice with.id run standard preasure 115jhp with a large cavity because its not gonna be over a 1000fps. That or glaser silver safety slugs
Better than nothing I guess. But I can buy a Taurus G2c for $230 and have 12+1 rounds IN MY POCKET, or inside the waistband using the Techna Clip device. I carry mine everywhere also. And my Kahr CM9 gives me 7 rounds in my pocket all day long.

I’ve had my Bond for several years. I work in the great outdoors. I carry it loaded with .410 7 1/2 shot in the summer. It’s a great snake gun. In cooler times of the year, I load it with 00 or 000 buck. Again, it’s a great snake gun.
AS the owner of several Bond Arms models, I look forward to a lighter, more pocketable model AND the end of that ugly and rarely perfectly attached tacked-on trigger guard.

I have been carrying and shooting Derringers for over 35 years and have never felt under gunned The derringer is actuly very acurate in close quarters and I have been able to hit a pie pan constantly at 50 with no problem .It is the one gun I can carry every ware . I have used it to take a large wolf that attacked with one head shot with its 32 acp. round at 10 feet and dissuading a would be mugger by having my hand on my gun and pointing at his guts while still in my pocket When he surprised me, I told him what his situation was I told him only thing keeping the gun from firing into his guts was me holding the hammer back . You shoot and it goes off. Not my first choice certainly But an excellent take anywhere deep concealment gun.
Ok, so, i like the mini .22 wmr revolver they make( longer barrel ) . But , two shots for self defense ? Unless you want to pistol whip someone with it when yur empty …( In which case , get the heavier model ). I’ll pass.
