Californians will have to deal with a new wave of gun laws signed into effect by Gov. Jerry Brown. These new laws ratchet up the state’s stranglehold on the 2A by raising the age requirement to buy rifles and shotguns to 21, among other things.

Gun-rights activists slammed the governor and the new laws, although Brown did not sign every law included in the gun control package.

“We’re disappointed that Governor Brown chose to further expand California’s already-insane gun control laws that infringe on fundamental, individual rights,” said Firearms Policy Coalition director Richard Thomson. “The billionaire-funded gun control machine was on overdrive this year and sent him the largest package of anti-gun bills we’ve seen since Gunpocalyspe in 2016.”

“Governor Brown just told millions of people under 21 that they can fight and die for our state and country with machine guns, but they can’t buy a gun for self-defense in their homes,” said coalition spokesman Craig DeLuz. “That’s nuts.”

“We have directed our attorneys to explore every available legal remedy,” said Coalition president Brandon Combs. “We will continue to file lawsuits to challenge unconstitutional laws and remain cautiously optimistic that the Supreme Court will once more soon weigh in on Second Amendment rights.”

The bill was sponsored by Democratic Sen. Anthony Portantino. Moved by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, he was determined to block sales to adults under the age of 21.

“As a dad and senator, I am very grateful to Governor Brown for his leadership in signing this important bill,” said Portantino. “I was determined to help California respond appropriately to the tragic events our country has recently faced on high school campuses.”

The law includes exemptions for those in the military and law enforcement, as well as citizens with a hunting license.

Other laws include one that requires a minimum 8-hour training course for those applying for concealed-carry permits and a law banning bump stocks. One signed law classifies anyone who is involuntarily committed for any mental health issues as a prohibited person for life. The new laws also expand gun violence restraining orders to include ammunition and magazines.

Brown rejected bills that would limit buyers to one firearm a month as well as another bill that would allow employers, co-workers and high school and college staff to file gun violence restraining orders against gun owners.

So in other words… you won’t be able to defend yourselves from the 15 year olds in South Central until you are over 21…. got it.

Well, you can still go shoot machine guns and use grenades at 17. So you have that, which is nice.

Unless of course they replaced 249s and 240s with nerf guns in basic..

The whole military argument is kind of flawed. when i turned 21 and bought a 1911, the range wouldnt let my 19 year old buddy shoot it even tho he had carried a m9 our whole deloyment. and this was in south carolina where i didnt even need to wait to take it home. “home” of course being our company armory since u cant keep a private weapon in the barracks either.

Moonbeam has decided that people under the age of 21 are to immature and cannot be trusted with a firearm, (unless of course they wish to join the military and sacrifice their lives for the GD politicians), yet this asshat thinks that these same immature adults should be allowed to vote when they are 16-17 years old.

Here we have another example of dumbocratic BULLSHIT LAWS. Let me ask you gov does this law INCLUDE BANNING THOSE UNDER 21 IN THE MILITARY FROM GETTING ARMS? If not you are more of the dumbocratick bullshit heads who think you got more brains than the head of a pin. You just rolled back equality a 100 years and you don’t even know it.

If simply by virtue of age, someone is too young to purchase a firearm because he is considered irresponsible, would it not also follow that he is too irresponsible to vote?

Either 18, 19, and 20 year old people are adults or they are not.

I suggest anyone considering entering the military wait until they are 21. you wouldn’t want to violate the law. by being handed an M-4 at 19.

Where’s Mr. MAGA in all this?

    Huh….

So you can go DIE for Israel in illegal and unconstitutional wars – but can’t own your own gun.

    Yep

    MAGA!

    Or something….

Like the other news item found here about NJ…. where their new law requires you to destroy high-capavity mags….I ask again like I do here…. where is the NRA in all this? Seems they ALWAYS say they will fight for just laws, but it seems these laws get enacted first, and NRA attempts reversal later….if at all…..NEVER ahead of time, like legal influencing and lobbying. Same for my old state NY.,,,,,with their draconian SAFE law. Where was the NRA in lobbying or pre-enactment involvement?……crickets. And afterweards…..nothing, all efforts to over-turn SAFE was done by grass roots funded efforts and lawsuits. NRA talks a good talk and sure wants your membership and dues….maybe having such bad laws enacted actually helps them fire up the base to get more members AFTERWARDS…but I don’t see their efforts as effective in prevention.

8 hour training required for concealed carry? Not an issue. Most states require training, and 8 hours (assuming it includes shooting time) isn’t unreasonable, especially if the person has never handled a gun. I wish they’d all have a reduced course for those who an prove that they have had prior formal training, like prior military and police.

21 years old before buying a long gun? I don’t personally have a problem with this. You have to be 21 to purchase a hand gun in most states now. It doesn’t say you can’t POSSESS a long gun (or even hand gun, though concealed carry is restricted to 21+ on handgun ), just can’t walk into the store an buy it. Puts some liability on parents who buy guns for under 21 year olds, but most who would do so would be responsible enough to know their kid and how he/she behaves and handles a gun.

“One signed law classifies anyone who is involuntarily committed for any mental health issues as a prohibited person for life. ” Now this I have a problem with. There could be situations where someone has what could be classified as a mental issue temporarily, or mistakenly. It’s tough to get off a list once put on, even if it’s a proven mistake. A friend’s ex girlfriend got made at him and reported him for molesting her child. He got arrested and put on a sex offender’s list. When taken to court she admitted that she did it out of anger, nothing really happened. The child was of course seen by a psychiatrist (or whatever…) and they agreed that there was no crime committed. Case dropped. Took another two years and $15-20K in legal fees to get off the list.

When I was 18 years old living in Calif. I was drafted into the US Army, I was sent to FT. Ord also in Calif. after about three weeks I was issued an M-14 rifle, I was sent to various locations around the world in each location I was issued firearms. Gov. Brown hid behind religion to avoid such service.
