BELLEVUE, WA – A new Rasmussen poll showing Joe Biden has lost ground among likely U.S. voters for his handling of crime and law enforcement issues helps explain the continued interest in private gun ownership, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
According to Rasmussen’s survey, 51 percent of likely voters give Biden a poor rating for his ability to handle rising crime. Back in July, 48 percent of poll respondents gave the president bad marks on this subject. Rasmussen revealed 77 percent of Republicans and 56 percent of Independents rate the president’s handling of crime and law enforcement issues to be poor.
According to the FBI National Instant Check System (NICS), more than 35.7 million background checks have been initiated so far this year, and while that number does not reflect actual gun sales, it does indicate a strong continuing interest in gun ownership.

“Since Joe Biden took office,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “millions of Americans who had never before owned a firearm bought one. During the week leading up to ‘Black Friday’ in November, there were more than 687,000 NICS checks initiated, and we anticipate strong numbers for December when the final tally is available.
“Since Biden took office,” he continued, “police agencies have continued to lose personnel, crime has spiked upward and increasing numbers of Americans have taken more responsibility for their personal safety and that of their families. For a guy who came into office promising more restrictions on legal firearms ownership, Joe Biden has only stoked gun sales because his policies are making Americans feel less safe, because, in fact, they are .
“Joe Biden and his handlers need to face reality,” Gottlieb observed. “Their policies and performance do not resonate with the majority of citizens. When you throw in Rasmussen’s revelation that 67 percent of likely voters think the country is headed in the wrong direction, you have a disaster on your hands, people have lost faith in their ability to lead, and they are preparing for the worst. It’s a signal that Biden should leave gun rights alone for the remainder of his time in office.”

The only thing worse than a man who wants to rule the world is the one who wants to save it. Most politicians just want to be the big guy, the executive, the guy in the big chair. They don’t want to change the system and their rhetoric serves the purpose of getting elected. A few are true believers – they really believe what they are saying and really do want to make these changes. These guys (and ladies) are scarier. But the one thing they have in common is that they tread upon the common man every day.

I would suggest that the personal approval rating of Joe Biden is only of secondary importance. What would a similar poll say if people are asked about how happy they are that the President is no longer Donald Trump? I would guess that rate to be higher than Biden’s approval rate, probably by double digits and probably higher than 50%. Joe Biden was a one-term President upon his election – as long as the next nominee is separate enough from him, what does it matter if “Sleepy” Joe is personally reviled? Weirdly there is a lot of similarity between Biden in 2020 and Dole in ‘96 in that way, a former hatchet man Senator who finally had his turn to run but was so old he only expected one term.
Honestly, Biden wasn’t likeable even when he still had all his marbles. In the 80s, 90s and early 00s was a prickly, overambitious jerk who bounced between crass insults, obvious plagiarism and artless gaffery. The last thing he did to make national headlines before Al-Buraq (look up that nickname for a good chuckle) picked him as the VP nomination was the “articulate and clean” comment. He has embarrassed the Democratic Party for 50 years, why would he stop now? Joe Biden is an empty suit and he was elected because that suit did not contain Donald Trump. He is an idiot, he was useful… he’s not Trump. And that was one campaign promise he could keep. I would say that Joe Biden is the emptiest suit in Washington but sometimes John Kerry is there and that overpriced gigolo is a much emptier suit.
I will say that this offers a very unique dynamic, historically speaking. Usually there is someone else running around, something like a hatchet man, to be more of a focus of that dislike. Cheney was like that in the Bush years, and to some extent Hillary filled that role in the 90s. But this person is supposed to be a buffer for the President – and today that person is the President. I have not read Harry Potter books or seen those movies but I have heard about sin eaters and from my understanding, there is a parallel between the sin eater and this hated goblin within the administration, to go around soaking up some of the hate.
