CEOs of Dick’s, TOMS, Levi’s and RXR Realty Push Gun Control in Open Letter

In an open letter published Monday, CEOs for Dick’s Sporting Goods, Levi Strauss & Co., TOMS and RXR Realty called on Congress to criminalize the private transfer of firearms.

“Gun violence in America is not inevitable; it’s preventable. There are steps Congress can, and must, take to prevent and reduce gun violence,” said Dick’s CEO Edward Stack, Levi CEO Chip Bergh, TOMS CEO Blake Mycoskie, and RXR Realty CEO Scott Rechler.

“That’s why we urge the House of Representatives to stand with the American public and take action on gun safety by voting for H.R. 8, The Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, to require background checks on all gun sales,” they continued.

With limited exceptions, H.R. 8 would make all sales and transfers — even temporary transfers — subject to a background check. Transfers where the recipient does not remain “exclusively … in the presence of the transferor” would be considered unlawful. Violators would face up to a year in prison and a fine of $1,000.

John Feinblatt, the President of Everytown for Gun Safety, praised the businessmen for endorsing what gun-control advocates call “universal background checks.”

“America’s business leaders are raising their voices in support of common-sense solutions to the uniquely American problem of gun violence,” said Feinblatt. “We are proud to stand with these courageous companies and the communities they serve in supporting the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, which will close the deadly loopholes in America’s background checks law.”

Meanwhile, the Trump Administration released a statement Monday detailing its opposition to H.R. 8. In addition to noting that the legislation would “impose burdensome requirements on certain firearm transactions,” the Executive Office of the President explained that H.R. 8 would also “impose permanent record-keeping requirements and limitless fees on these everyday transactions.”

“For example, unless an exemption applies, both the act of leaving a weapon in the temporary care of a neighbor while traveling and the act of later retrieving that weapon would require processing by a licensed entity under H.R.8. Also, unless such an exemption applies, domestic violence victims would be prohibited from borrowing a firearm for selfdefense without first having the transaction go through such a licensed entity,” said the White House.

The efficacy of universal background checks as a means to reduce gun violence is dubious, as the NRA-ILA recently pointed out. To make its case the NRA-ILA quoted from articles published by Vox.com and The Trace (Emphasis added):

Vox.com, which supports increased federal gun control, admitted in a Jan. 9 article that “a growing body of research suggests that comprehensive background checks alone won’t do much, if anything, to combat gun violence in America.” The article went on to cite studies by well-established anti-gun researchers at institutions that in some cases have entire research departments devoted to producing empirical support for gun control, including U.C. Davis, Johns Hopkins, and U.C. Berkeley.

Even Michael Bloomberg’s own dedicated anti-gun propaganda outfit, The Trace, admitted on Jan. 10 that “the real-world evidence that [universal background checks] reduce crime is more complicated than the political momentum might suggest.”

While The Trace strained to portray the evidence as “complicated” and “all over the place,” it nevertheless admitted, “it’s clear that in many cases the policy isn’t working as hoped.”

To pose the obvious question, what’s the point?  Why should Congress pass a law that is sure to chill the 2A rights of law-abiding citizens while doing little to nothing to combat gun-related violence?  Feel free to answer in the comments section below.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on H.R. 8 this week.

I only have one vote, but I can vote with my wallet which I hope will take some of the extra lobby money away from gun control business supporters. Dicks, (Field & Stream owned by Dicks) Levi’s, lost my business.

My representatives won’t listen to average citizens but they will listen to big political donors. I can vote against them when they come up for re-election!

As stated in earlier post Ban this ban that. Really lets look at motor vehicle accidents. How many people are killed daily or terminally bed ridden or confined to a wheel chair? I myself have been in 4 major accidents and all of them were the other vehicle operators fault.

1st driver not watching where he was going side swiped my truck I was getting into broken right leg, depressed skull fracture, in hospital 2 months.

2nd on car ran stop sign I was on motorcycle I received dislocated knee, broken wrist.

3rd Hit by drunk driver he was 3 time the legal limit as drunk, he was speeding. I was at stop sign his vehicle swerved and hit the front of my car, spun my vehicle 375 degrees, the front bumper from my vehicle was located 50 yards further down the road, while the front license plate was never found.

4th Woman driving and chatting on her cell phone hit the front end of my 3/4 ton truck. truck was totaled frame was bent, Drivers side window was shattered where my head went threw it, left collar bone compound fracture. Lacerations on the side of my head requiring many staples to close the wounds. As multiply witness stated in police report she never applied her brakes and and was speeding at least 60 MPH in a 45 zone.

In the 1st and 4th accidents I was knocked unconscious and woke up in the hospital ER or surgery recovery room.

So I sit here asking why were these people allowed to drive more why where there drivers license not revoked. OK so they all received traffic tickets big deal. Let them go through the pain and long term disability. And lets not forget all the physical therapy. And then there is the need for someone to dive you to all these appointments. Because you are not allowed to under doctors care.

I’ve got an idea. Let’s get Congress to pass a law requiring the mandatory arming of all adults after passing a background check. Lets take away the liberals right to be unarmed. I think it’s the only way to get them to understand what it’s like to have someone else take away your rights. Think they would comply?

  • 89SVTII March 8, 2019, 1:06 pm

I haven’t set foot in a Dick’s since they destroyed their AR arms and won’t ever again. I’m boycotting and although I’m not a thief, I know there are some five-finger professionals out there, so I’m hoping there are some enterprising individuals who will pillage this business into submission along with law abiding citizens who are exercising their First Amendment rights to boycott them as well.

    • David Rav April 12, 2021, 8:55 am

I will not shop at any store that works against our second amendment. That means Hallmark Panera bread , Costco Bank of America Dick’s Sporting Goods and all the others on the list. I will not spend one dime in any of those stores Or go to a movie that is run by AMC. I boycott all newspapers and television channels that push the same anti gun agenda.

  • Jamie L Sorensen March 8, 2019, 12:37 pm

All about CONTROL. Has NOTHING to do with stopping bad guys.

  • JsO March 8, 2019, 11:50 am

100% correct, I haven’t been in or bought anything from these companies since their last “words of wisdom” for us little people. Dont you love it how the super rich know how to fix everything, but dont live in the real world! BOYCOT!

  • Anonymous March 8, 2019, 11:36 am

Actually, these big companies are doing us a favor by voicing under their first amendment rights. Big corporations have always and will always fund congress. It’s always been quietly. Those that speak loudly and publicly gives us our right to knowingly support or boycott their stores. It’s the corporations that remain silent in which we must remain leery.

  • John A. Knuckles March 8, 2019, 9:27 am

I stopped buying anything from Dicks Sporting Goods when they removed the AR-15′ from the shelf. I have not stepped foot in the store or online since. Not only did they lose sales from hunting, shooting, and fishing supplies but also athletic equipment. shoes, and clothing for five Grandchildren from T-Ball up through College. I hope their choice was worth it.

  • Mark Shean March 8, 2019, 7:11 am

This has nothing to do with preventing crime, and everything to do with CONTROL.

  • Rick Syva March 8, 2019, 6:19 am

Okay so now it’s the gun owners turn, We need to boycott these companies and the products and services they offer. If They can’t support common sense gun control then we can’t support them.

    • JsO March 8, 2019, 9:28 am

I am sure that the crook on the street who has a stolen gun will do a background check when they sell a gun to another crook. Like everyone else I spent a small fortune at Dicks and Golf Galaxy and used their rewards credit card every where. Levis last a long time, but when I need more, hello Wrangler. No more purchases from me from these companies.

  • Bruce Frank March 8, 2019, 4:15 am

So how is a law going to keep gun out of the hands of the lawless?

Are you corporate heads actually unaware that there are well organized criminal networks that transport and sell guns, to other criminals and gangs, bringing them right across the border with the drugs they help distribute?

Nothing you speak of does anything but limit the law abiding citizen, making it very difficult to defend ourselves against the professional criminal.

If you have read the other comments you would see the point made several times. if you could snap your fingers and make all the guns disappear, the criminal would still be a criminal who would become fearless. Their desire to rob, rape, and murder would not have changed. Now the victims, the elderly and weak, would have NO method or practical implement for self defense.

FBI statistics show that 3000 crimes a day are prevented by legally armed law abiding citizens. And in only one in ten is a shot fired.

As for those scary black rifles, more people are killed with hammers than are killed with AR15 or AK47 rifles.

Our biggest problem appears to be that there are deals cut with government and some law enforcement to keep criminal activity and mental related incidents off of peoples records. Nicolas Cruz, Parkland Florida High School shooter, and Trayvon Martin, shot while attacking neighborhood watch, had suppressed criminal records under the same program, due to their school district’s desire to keep federal money flowing into the schools’ funding. Cruz wouldn’t have been able to buy any guns and Martin would have been in jail.

I also doubt that you know that since it became easier, starting 25 years ago, for law abiding citizens to legally obtain and carry firearms, violent crime has been reduced by an average of 50%. Apparently criminals realize that when there is increased potential for their victims defending themselves with a gun, the criminals move to the states with more restricted gun laws…where they know the Law Abiding Citizen is much less likely to be armed.

Enforce existing laws against criminals with no “special programs” allowing criminal and mental records to be hidden from the standard background checks would go far to reduce crime further. Push the states, that still insist on limiting Law Abiding Citizens ability to carry concealed, to issue permits without the ridiculous questions about “need” rather than the “right to” enumerated in the 2nd Amendment!

Be aware that several states have now instituted what is commonly called “Constitutional Carry,” which is the right for anyone to carry concealed if they qualify to buy the gun. There has been NO jump in illegal shootings or murder rates in those states.

Dicks is the appropriately names store there is. I have not set foot in a Dicks in 2 years and all their emails go right to my spam file. Levis never fit me well anyway – Wranglers are much better. I wish all these companies the same fate that Sears is heading toward. I heard Disks is sinking fast.

  • George March 7, 2019, 11:13 pm

I’ve worn Levi 501’s all my life…I just burned my last pair in my fireplace. My new Wranglers fit great IMO!!

  • Dan C March 7, 2019, 9:35 pm

The point is the drip drip drip of rights lost and control gained.

  • Sgt. G March 7, 2019, 9:29 pm

I work for a corporation, Kennametal,..I ever find out that they send out a letter to our corrupt congress, trying to subvert our 2nd amendment by abusing our 1st. that will be the day I leave. People must wake up to this insanity. We the people, someday soon are just going defend our Constitution the way our founders intended us to do. Pray for our president and our leaders, military, 1st responders, police, and all who serve the people and especially the believers in Jesus Christ who saves us from ourselves.

  • Barnard Barrett March 7, 2019, 9:21 pm

well i guess ill no longer be shopping with thezes people levis were my fav jean they just lost me as a customer

  • David March 7, 2019, 9:19 pm

I will never shop at Dicks or buy Levis again. As a matter of fact it’s recently become that time when I needed to buy pants which happens every 2-3 years and I made it a point to buy 5.11 pants and didn’t even consider buying Levi’s. I’ve worn Levi’s almost exclusively for 35 years and will never purchase another pair.

  • Steve Hughes March 7, 2019, 9:05 pm

Not as long as there is a 2nd amendment.
More to the point, not as long as I can still draw a breath…and a bead.

You Marxists, socialists, “democratic socialists”, communists, crooked politicians and otherwise truly stupid people can – collectively – KISS MY ASS…!

  • Wayne March 7, 2019, 8:57 pm

The only thing Dicks is good for is stoping in and taking a leak in there restroom when on the way to get a new pair of Wranglers.

  • John Wilmoth March 7, 2019, 8:37 pm

Big mistake. These companies need to stay out of politics and legislation. As a result of these companies entering the political arena and supporting those who are attacking our Constitution, I have ceased purchasing Levi’s, which I have worn nearly my entire life almost exclusively. As an avid hunter and outdoorsman, I spent a fortune at Dicks, and an equally large amount of money at Golf Galaxy, which they own. The day I heard Dick’s was supporting gun control advocates, I visited one of their stores and cancelled my rewards account and have not been back since. I may visit a Golf Galaxy to see products, and then purchase elsewhere or online. I tend to support the pro shops now even though they are more expensive. I would do without before purchasing a single items from these traitors. I rejoice in reading about Dick’s drop in sales, and their lame excuses when attributing those drops as a result of anything else. With all the cash I saved, I opted to donate to the NRA and other organizations that support and defend the Second Amendment! You all are going to miss my dollars more than I will ever miss your products! Your competitors appreciate your obvious ignorance on the subject matter. Your actions do nothing to stop criminals, only restricts law abiding citizens like me.

  • chris March 7, 2019, 8:35 pm

well I have already stoped going to Dick’s and have advised others to do the same. I will add Tom’s and Levi to that list. Everyone has their own beliefs and I also believe that I shouldn’t spend money or support a business that I do not agree with.

  • Meathead March 7, 2019, 8:34 pm

They promote Gun Control like the Anti-America idiots that they are and I exercise spending money at their competitors. Seems fair to me!

  • Neal Christensen March 7, 2019, 8:22 pm

And now you can add Benchmade Knives to the list.

  • Peter March 7, 2019, 8:17 pm

That’s what they want this week, but what about next week, month, year, etc? They’ll never be satisfied until the Second Amendment is abolished. They will protect to the death the other Amendments and chop away at the Second until there is nothing left. Don’t they realize the Second is the protection for the others? Fools!

  • paul March 7, 2019, 8:12 pm

    I think they’re all dicks.

  • Rick clark March 6, 2019, 7:33 am

We keep blaming guns it’s not guns hack if we wanna blame guns for deaths should we blame cars when they are used as bombs or planes when they are used to hit buildings or blame fast food for people dying come on lets get real people in government just have to blame something who get the blame when people have rpg or rocket launchers both of them are more deadly then one bullet

  • Shaun March 6, 2019, 2:51 am

This garbage ass company comes up with something every year around this time for publicity. It’s crazy how quick people forget things. Just this time last year right after the Parkland shooting they made a “commitment” to stop selling AR style rifles which was just to boost their sells because they had made the same “commitment” 5 yrs previously. They literally boosted their sales off the dead bodies of school kids! Now here we are a year later and you can go to our local Dicks (Hickory, NC) and find multiple AR’s on their shelves! Called them out last year for being garbage and still do to this day!!!

  • Hondo March 5, 2019, 4:02 pm

Alex I’ll take ” What are four shit companies that will never see a penny of my money ” for a 1000.

LOL screw these idiot CEO’s that would torpedo their business, I say good riddance to you.

  • troglor March 4, 2019, 3:07 am

this is why i no longer shop. at Dick’s. will not buy levy brand or anr other company that is against my rights..

  • Old Codger March 3, 2019, 9:15 pm

How do these people propose to ENFORCE such a law? A lot of states have NO firearms registration at all. How are they going to know who has what and when a transfer has been effected? What are they going to do mandate registration of existing firearms? IMS, they tried that somewhere on the East Coast (Conn?) with an estimated compliance rate UNDER 15%. In the end all they will succeed in doing is making more people criminals. Meanwhile those who are already real criminals (you know, the people who already ignore laws?) will continue as they always have. They will also hasted the day when the normally law-abiding people finally decide “Enough is enough!!!” and upon seeing the “long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object [which] evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism” they rise up as “is their right … their duty” and “throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security”.

  • MASTERMECH48 March 3, 2019, 8:25 pm

You can do all the comprehensive background checks you desire just answer this, How do you accomplish this check on “STREET” sales. US’ins honest people are the only ones affected by any pre-sale investigations. Show me any documentation on street sales!!!! Suggest legislators get REAL, come up with some concrete way to control criminals and leave the honest bodies alone…..

  • Diane March 2, 2019, 9:17 pm

Won’t shop Dick’s. They sold me a defective gun and won’t take it back. They actually had the nerve to hang up on me when I explained that my gun is defective as it’s never once got up and started shooting random people 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  • Goeff Hammerschmidt March 2, 2019, 6:21 pm

Stop drunk drivers by banning all cars. Stop pit bull maulings by outlawing pet ownership. Same vein, bozo. Only thing gun control accomplishes is penalizing law abiding citizens, without any due process.

Dicks is contradicting themselves trying to infringe on the citizens rights. Its time the American people start putting these companies in thier place. They are not the ones who make the rules. It’s time to abolish the secret 2nd Constitution which came about from the ACT OF 1871!!!
People do not know about the other Constitution that exist to protect the corporation ,Corporate America look it up

I am sure all the gang members will run right out and fill out the paper work so they only ones your hurting is the companies that go broke because we will not buy from them ever agin and then all the honest people that gave up there rights will be robbed or killed by the bad guys that still have there guns and remember the Constitution gives us the right to bear arms because of people like you.

  • MarkV March 1, 2019, 6:07 pm

Colorado was a “pioneer” in these so-called universal background checks. They had to amend the version that originally passed because they had made it illegal to hand a gun to a friend at the range so they could try it out. The county Sheriffs said they would not enforce it. Under the current version it is still ludicrous. I went to have a new scope mounted. The shop could not do the work that day. I asked if I could just leave the gun and scope with them. They said I could but that I would have to undergo a background check to pick up my gun when they were done. So I would have had to pay $25 for the background check and undergo another background check for a gun I legally purchased and already had a background check performed in order to acquire. I probably did not do as good a job as they would have, but I mounted it myself. It has broken my heart to watch Colorado turn from red to blue. Now we also legally kill nine month old babies and call it abortion.

Three words explain most gun violence in this country, mental health issues.

    • Rick clark March 6, 2019, 7:38 am

It not always mental people it is also people that are just want some attention their five mins of fame

      • CinciJim March 7, 2019, 8:29 pm

It takes a very sick mind to intentionally inflict pain upon or cause the death of an innocent human. No one will never convince me otherwise.

We do not have a “gun violence” problem in this country, we have a “human violence” problem. A sick mind intent on murder will attempt to murder regardless of the means chosen to do so.

  • Captain of Infantry March 1, 2019, 2:47 pm

I recently read an article that said a legitimate study found that 97% of crimes committed with firearms involved ILLEGALLY obtained firearms. This type of new law will not stem crime in any way…if fact, it will likely create more victims. Some people are just so sanctimonious that their reasoning ability takes a holiday. Using their logic, we should ban SUVs, because that type of vehicle is the most common type used in DUI’s. Blame the inanimate object, not the person.

    • Robert McBride November 1, 2019, 1:25 pm

IF the government can take away the 2ND, then there is nothing to stop them from taking away our FISRT. It’s not about the crime or the criminal element. The government just want to impose restrictions on the people it governs, for good or bad. 2NDS COUNT.

  • Henry March 1, 2019, 1:42 pm

“To pose the obvious question, what’s the point? Why should Congress pass a law that is sure to chill the 2A rights of law-abiding citizens while doing little to nothing to combat gun-related violence?”

Because it’s what they do. They literally don’t know how to do anything different.

  • Timothy Barbre March 1, 2019, 1:32 pm

I don’t care how many mass shootings have occurred. I don’t care how many people get shot every day. This Country was founded on our rights to defend ourselves from tyranny. If the very Government that takes our guns away becomes Socialistic or some other form of Government other than the Republic that our Forefathers founded we must be able to defend ourselves. If you don’t believe me look at Venezuela today, disarmed in 2012, the people are defenseless. Look what’s going on in Europe with the literal invasion of Muslims. The people have nothing to defend themselves with. Most of these countries the people would argue that disarming them was the right thing and they are safe because their Government protects them. Sorry but most of us Americans look at our Government as an entity that works for us and it’s their job to protect us to a point, but when they fail to protect us it’s our duty to protect our own. Our Forefathers guaranteed us in our Constitution that our right would not be infringed. So let’s quit talking about stripping honest people of their rights and start punishing those that commit the crimes. Maybe the five year enhancement for using a firearm is to light, or maybe criminals just don’t care because, our Courts and Judicial system has become the biggest problem. Many walk because of loopholes others are convicted wrongly. Murders are plea bargained down to a slap on the wrist.
CEO that support gun control or any other laws are in it for money or some other gain. As business people they know that by taking a stand they will lose some business but, you can bet there is a gain for them somewhere. Weather it’s cash infusion from a Bank that’s anti gun or maybe a major Stockholder. Maybe they have political aspirations, there is definitely something on the other side. I don’t mean to be cynical but after watching my whole life at Politicians and big Businesses you get to understand that neither one does anything that doesn’t make them money or power.

    • Skinnet March 1, 2019, 9:20 pm

Well said sir. Politicians and big business, do absolutely nothing without a monetary or political gain. Absolutely nothing!!!

  • June Gartner March 1, 2019, 1:26 pm

I believe there are too many guns at the disposal of crooked people now. However, HR8 would only apply to honest law abiding citizens, because they don’t want to break laws (No matter how ridiculous) they are. On the contrary, someone who decides they want to kill others, will always find access to guns, from others who also have no respect for the law.

    American Citizen

As an American Citizen I am sick and tired of the Democratic Party of the United States of America, Citizens, and Retail Companies violating my constitutional rights with their Bigoted, Hoplophobic, Discriminatory comments and actions destroying every fiber of my right to the pursuit of happiness and self defense. They need to be taken to Federal Court and sanctioned for their actions just like any other employer or employee and removed from office for the vile comments that continue to spew out of their mouths every day. Its time Gun Owners became part of the protected class so that our rights can be protected. They cannot solve crime, they release criminals from jail, do not go after illegal immigrants, and have decided to turn on American Citizens.

OK. That’s it. Let’s put Dick’s out of the gun business. Come to think of it, let’s see if we can close this aptly named business altogether. I make a personal pledge never to darken their doors again.

    • Mike March 1, 2019, 11:41 am

      I’m with you

  • [email protected] March 1, 2019, 9:02 am

In 1996, after the Dunblaine massacre, Britain banned all handguns and other non-hunting firearms. There hasn’t been a mass shooting since. There’s a case where a kid went nuts. He slashed and stabbed 17 other kids. Nobody died. Now picture him with a Glock 17 and two full mags. Don’t say there’s no proof.

    • Kimberpross March 1, 2019, 9:51 am

Sadly the “Slasher” knew no one would be able to defend themselves from a distance since the all knowing government eliminated guns. Would the kid have done his deed if our 2A would be in place there? Taking the position the gun grabbers like to when these things happen, I would say if only one kid had not been slashed if someone in the vicinity had a firearm, it is worth having it. Thwarting such incidents happens in the USA. Don’t say there is no proof. Sick humans have existing since the beginning of time (Cane and Abel) and I am sure there always will be sick humans.

    • KCsmith March 1, 2019, 9:59 am

      2010 Cumbria shootings – 12 dead, 11 injured
      2017 Westminster attack – 6 dead, 49 injured
      2017 London Bridge attack – 8 dead 48 injured

Those are just off the top of my head. You are a typical liberal moron, spouting whatever lies you’ve been told rather than gathering factual information on your own. You’re spreading false information.

Displaying your ignorance so publicly is a bad idea, Derek Hannah

      • Derek March 1, 2019, 5:45 pm

I haven’t seen a single case where a gun owner here has stopped a terrorist attack. That includes domestic terrorists. Perhaps you’d be willing to compare the murder rate per capita in UK with ours publically, here, on this forum? I’d love to see how you spin that.

    • Wolfer March 1, 2019, 10:02 am

Hasn’t that been tried Before on American soil?

    • Sean March 1, 2019, 10:04 am

Sounds like you’re on the wrong team…

    • Russ March 1, 2019, 10:56 am

Yes but your knife violence has gone through the roof. Also I seem to remember several stories of masses of people being run down by vehicles. Face it, scumbag criminals will use what ever is available to commit mass harm. I am glad I am an American and carry concealed to protect my family, myself, and others if I had to. Being an un armed sheep is not in my DNA.

    • Dave churbuck March 1, 2019, 11:19 am

So, for the actions of a few criminals, the entire population must be disarmed so the criminals can do as they
wish with the people and kids ?
Being as You have no respect for others to protect their lives and families or your own, IF I were a member
of you family I would leave and go where I could have a firearm to protect myself and or family.
Some value their lives and others do not, Worse there are those like you who deny others the right to
      protect theirs.
Why don\’t you concentrate your efforts to disarm governments, The real source of the problem ?

    • Keith March 2, 2019, 9:42 am

It seems to me that several people have been killed in the U.K. by vehicles intentionally running people down. If someone wants to kill a bunch people, they will find a way !!!

    • F. G. March 3, 2019, 12:42 am

Are you kidding. You have to go back to 1996 to make your point? Oh by the way. If someone had a weapon to defend themselves maybe nobody would have been slashed or stabbed.

  • Mike OHare March 1, 2019, 9:02 am

That sux, I liked Levi’s, oh well… 5.11’s are better anyway.

    • Russ March 1, 2019, 11:04 am

Agreed. I had been wearing Levi’s for more than 40 years, no more. I heard of this last year and the fact they would ask you to leave a Levi’s store if while trying on clothes they saw you were carrying concealed. I now wear Carhartt and they are so much more comfortable and of a better quality than Levi’s ever were. I wish they had opened their filth holes about their hatred of gun owners years ago. I didn’t even donate the Levi’s, I burned them in our burn barrel in the back yard.

    • Russ March 1, 2019, 11:08 am

Agreed. I used to wear Levi’s. I switched to Carhartt. Better quality and so much more comfortable. I wish Levi’s had opened their vile biased filth holes sooner about not liking Americans using their 2nd Amendment rights. Didn’t even donate the Levi’s, burned them in the burn barrel out in the backyard.

BOYCOTT! each and every one of these Companies and their related products. Refuse them Your Money! We all know that it has hurt Dick’s. Benchmade should be Next on the list. (and I have been a faithful supporter of them for over 30+ years. No More! I also emailed them and told them so.) Be brave. Stand Up! Put your money where Your Stand is! They do, and So Should You!

  • joefoam March 1, 2019, 7:49 am

Humans are a violent species, to say that that is preventable ignores that fact. Mankind has been killing each other with everything from rocks to nuclear bombs for millennia, a few laws are not going to change the course of human nature. These boobs may be successful business men but they are lacking common sense.

    • Henry March 1, 2019, 4:56 pm

Ever notice how the ones touting “common sense gun laws” have no common sense. Pass a law against murder! Wait, that’s already a law. When do liberals think they can ever author a law the criminals will obey?

  • Singleshotcajun March 1, 2019, 7:02 am

I have not purchased Levi’s since they closed the plant in Mississippi and moved it off shore. I use to buy my hunting license at Dicks when hunting back home in MS but that only for convenience, no longer .Dicks won’t even get the processing fee of a hunting license from me. All this reminds me of “Country” singers promoting gun control, Marketing 101 is knowing your audience.

  • Z March 1, 2019, 5:34 am

I’m old school, I’m 67 yrs old, I can’t fight or run anymore. I Love my family and my country. I own firearms to protect them against any harm that might come. I’m a firm believer in the Constitution of the United States. The 2nd amendment gives me that right. I will not comply with any left wing agenda that jeopardizes my rights to do so. I will die in a Hot pile of brass before they take that right away from me. This is not a threat, it’s a promise!

    • Kevin Baxter March 1, 2019, 12:31 pm

  • Rob February 28, 2019, 4:02 pm

    It’s irrelevant.

The Constitution delegates no power to Congress to regulate transactions that do not originate in one state and conclude in another, or their participants. The only reason they can regulate FFLs in such a manner is because they ARE engaged in commerce between states.

It also specifically prohibits its involvement besides by unambiguous language in a constitutional amendment.

    It’s illegal.

If this “government” won’t obey the law, it will have to be forced to.

    • Jerry March 1, 2019, 8:40 am

True, but states like Oregon already have similar laws. You can’t loan a gun to anyone without a background check there. smh! I wish someone would fight that law and Oregon is only getting worse.

      • William F Burns Jr March 7, 2019, 11:20 pm

        Why don’t you fight it???

If it is to be out must begin with me !!

  • C J February 28, 2019, 12:28 pm

The point is that DEMS know they can’t stop criminals from getting guns illegally. They don’t care. Guns obtained illegally are a small percentage. They know this. It’s about CONTROL. So in their backwards thinking, by going after the majority of legally owned guns in America, i.e. law abiding gun owners, they feel they’ll get what they want. Or at least a huge chunk of it.

  • Mitchell Schmitz February 28, 2019, 11:25 am

It’s a crying same that we’re even having this conversation. There are a lot of people out there that really don’t understand the constitution and how it is actually supposed to work. The United States constitution is not a working document and never was ment to be one. The constitution is mine and your rights. I have the right to own any firearm I wish to purchase as long as it is legal. You have the privilege to have a drivers license and own a vehicle. It is a privilege and not a right. If you’re willing to remove the second amendment from the constitution then are you also willing to give up your freedom of speech and religion? Because these two are next on the list and don’t think for a second they are not. You want the guns gone so everyone will be safe in their little glass houses. If people are committing crimes now do you really think it’s going to stop because you impose more gun laws. These people don’t care. The only people it’s going to effect is the same ones that are obeying the laws now. The people you put in office in DC. Do you really think they care about you and your family’s? Of course they don’t. Every one of them has a wall or a high fence around their homes. Every one of them have arm guards with GUNS to protect them and their families. So ask yourself this question is their families more important than yours? I think we can all agree on that answer. So if you agree with that statement then I suggest you get on board with the pro second amendment and start helping the rest of us keep our rights. The one thing the main stream media want tell you is the number of lives that have been saved because of a individual exercising their second amendment rights. Do some research on that number. The biggest thing that gets me is this. These same people are pushing to get laws passed to were a baby that has been born and living on its own can still be killed. According to the laws that I know that’s murder in the 1st degree. What’s the difference in you killing that baby and me putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger? Now getting back to the constitution. Every military person that has ever served our country has taken an oath before God Almighty. They swore to DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC GOVERNMENTS. This is a life time commitment. This is the reason we have the second amendment. It’s so we being the people can own the same fire power as our law enforcement agencies should the politicians try to take complete control of this country. Their are a bunch in DC right now that are trying to do that very thing. Do you want to be like the people in Venezuela getting scraps out of the back of a garbage truck because they don’t have anything to eat. See if you can get the answer to this question. How many people were killed in 2017 because they were using a cell phone in a vehicle while driving? Why aren’t people raising cain and protesting against this? It’s because there is at least one in every person household and they don’t want any more laws to stop them from using it.

  • Jeffrey Boatright February 28, 2019, 9:14 am

I totally agree with Sepp they wanna take our guns when they make us defenseless then they will come after our other rights. Freedom of speech, right to our own religion do on. So on WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO MAKE A STAND!!!!!!

    • Steve Gates February 28, 2019, 1:53 pm

      Jeff,

They are actively taking your rights. Particularly the 4th amendment is being trashed every minute of every day.

If you keep guns to prevent the government from “taking your rights”, then WHY THE FUCK AREN’T YOU CURRENTLY USING THEM TO DEFEND YOUR RIGHTS?

It’s time for you, and other like you, to be honest with yourselves.

One of these must be true:
      1) You just like guns (and that’s OK) and regulation wouldn’t affect you at all (you’re brainwashed into arguing against any attempt at control);

      2) You actually care about protecting your rights with guns but don’t actually do so for some reason (If so, please answer the above question)

      3) You DON’T actually care about protecting rights and are just hiding behind 2A for some ancillary reason (again likely brainwashed into “all libs are evil” , thus if a democrat thinks it’s good it must be default be bad)

      4) You are a criminal or have a reason why you personally shouldn’t be allowed to have guns.

Really, I have yet to hear any legitimate argument as to why we can’t have realistic gun control. all you ever hear is “Gubment gunna take my gunz”, with no substance and no actual conviction to stop the ass-fucking you’re already getting .

      • James February 28, 2019, 4:26 pm

I choose option 5. We have an inherent right to self defense. Yes, the intent of the 2A is to keep the government from barring us from owning weapons that would allow us to fight said government if it becomes tyrannical. That said, armed revolt should always be a last resort. If you’re argument for gun control is that “you’re not using them to defend your rights,” you just simply don’t understand and I’m not sure I can help you with that.

        • Derek March 2, 2019, 8:51 am

Simple question, how many of you keep all your guns in safes?

          • Meathead March 7, 2019, 8:50 pm

As I sit in my recliner, there’s a .357 Magnum on the table beside me. There’s a 12GA Mossberg pump mounted by my back door. There’s a 12GA Remington pump mounted by my front door. I sleep with a 1911 mounted on my bed frame by my right hand.
All of this is behind a SimpliSafe alarm system with outside cameras and motion-activated floodlights.
When I go out, I carry a 9mm with “special rounds” in it that “explode” after entering a body about four inches.
No, I am not paranoid, just aware that America IS NOT the 1940’s and 1950’s country that I grew up in and I’m waaay too old to stand against a 20 or 30 year old high on drugs and looking to get easy bucks to buy more drugs. This IS the America, thanks to Democrats, that we now live in! ! !
            Keep voting for the Pelosi’s and Schumer’s, you idiots! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  • Cletus James February 28, 2019, 7:22 am

There are never enough “Sensible Gun Control Laws” for the gun grabbers. If/when you finally get Universal background checks and gun violence continue, what will you push for next? It never ends until you finally push for total gun confiscation, will it? Then, you start with the universal background checklist to attempt to round up all the guns… except for the criminals, who never registered their stolen guns in the first place. You’ve left me defenseless at this point.

    • William F Burns Jr March 7, 2019, 11:39 pm

      I’m with Mesthead. Completely!
I have a .45 next to me in my chair.
A 12 ga loaded next to my bedroom back door.
A .45 next to my hand in bed.

I, you, carry a 9 mm shdn out of the house. (Plus a .38 ankle holster).

Neither am I paranoid but this USA is not the one I grew up in.

Until the liberals get their act together and quit trying to make the Greatest Nation in World into a SOCISLISTIC Society I will protect my home, my life, my family & defend my Country

  • Allen February 27, 2019, 4:17 pm

This has nothing to do with stopping violence of any kind. This has everything to do with disarming the American people. They can’t controll an armed populous.Universal background checks lead to registration and registration leads to confiscation. Unless we can come together and vote these people out of office or put term limits on them, AOC said something we all will have to get used to and that is “I’m the boss, get over it”.

  • Vicky Gammill February 27, 2019, 12:46 pm

We The People Are the ‘Boss’ and we have said for years and years that we do not support more gun control. You freaking money monsters are going to Cause another Civil War by pushing this insane bill. It will do NOTHING to stop criminals except to make their victims Sitting Ducks! Time for the States to Call a Convention of States and Take our Country back from this greedy congress men & women who want to CONTROL our entire lives!!!

  • Kenneth H February 27, 2019, 9:55 am

This does nothing to hurt the criminal. They don’t care what laws are written, hinse the word “criminal”. This only hurts law abiding citizens.

  • Loki Luck III February 26, 2019, 9:31 pm

Dick’s Sporting Goods is owned by Tyrannical Uncle Tom & HR 8 is “Anti-Roe vs Wade.” Prove me wrong, if you dare.

  • Jaque February 26, 2019, 9:02 pm

The term “Gun Violence “ is a talking point and technically a meaningless term. But it’s used by the communists because it sounds as if getting rid of guns will get rid violence. Why don’t we hear of knife violence? Or hammer violence? These two tools when used as weapons kill far more than guns. The reason is clear. Getting rid of guns is essential to imposing total control over society.
And after the communists take our guns the true violence will begin. Violence perpetrated on the people who refuse to conform to communism.

  • Sepp W February 26, 2019, 5:25 pm

How many efin times does it have to be said, guns are not inherently violent, but can be used to commit VIOLENT CRIMES against another person.

Liberals never want to address dealing with the true perpetrators of a violent crime, but instead go after an inanimate object.

  • Thomas February 26, 2019, 11:49 am

I will never purchase another gun at Dick’s ever again and they can close their doors and I will rip up my credit card for them and I just don’t shop there for guns I go there for my fishing stuff too well I won’t be going there anymore

  • Andy B February 26, 2019, 11:32 am

I agree the gun violence is a problem, Congress will miss its mark, they are targeting honest law abiding citizens not the bad guys and girls.. Find a law that targets the bad eggs not the responsible gun owners..

So I will never buy Levis and Dicks can close all its doors for all I care!

    • Richard McGowan February 26, 2019, 12:40 pm

The “gun violence” excuse is made up nonsense by politicians and the media to brainwash you into believing their propaganda. Why is there no “knife violence”, “club, bottle, pipe, hands, feet vehicle, ect. violence” even though ALL of these are used more often than guns? They frequently trot out the deadly “assault weapons” that are a scourge on our streets, when in reality, they are used in a TINY fraction of 1% of actually assaults. This has NOTHING to do with YOUR safety or the safety of your children and everything to do with the safety of career POLITICIANS. It is all about power and control and as long as THE PEOPLE have guns, the politicians are NOT in control. They know that more regulations isn’t going to protect anyone, it is all about YOU accepting more government control and keeping track of who has the guns. Next up national gun registration, then gun confiscation “for your own safety”, then a single party, socialist country, like Venezuela, where the politicians TELL YOU HOW IT WILL BE. Already the 29 year old bartender in congress that has been in office a few weeks is stating that SHE IS THE BOSS. Shades of Nazi, Germany.
