In the wake of the passage of harsh gun control laws, Mesa Tactical has announced that it will leave California and relocate its distribution and shipping operations to Reno, Nevada.

In a statement on its website, Mesa Tactical explained the decision to leave The Golden State.

“Since we opened for business in 2003, continued growth of the company’s sales to the military, law enforcement, and commercial markets has created a need for additional space and capabilities,” it read.

“Faced with tougher gun laws, California laws prohibit Mesa Tactical from being able to manufacture, store or even import into the state future product lines,” it continued.

The company’s new address is along with its contact information:

Mesa Tactical

Reno, NV 89502

A list of the bills signed into law by California Gov. Jerry Brown earlier this month.  Description courtesy of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry trade association.

  • AB 1135 (Levine) and SB 880 (Hall) Firearms: assault weapons – Expands the definition of assault weapons based on whether a semiautomatic firearm has a detachable magazine, banning thousands of popular firearms.
  • SB 1235 (de Leon) Ammunition – Requires authorization to purchase ammunition and track what and how much ammunition each person buys, creating a database of ammunition purchasers.
  • SB 1446 (Hancock) Firearms: magazine capacity – Makes it illegal to possess magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds no matter how long a person has owned them.
  • AB 1511 (Santiago) Firearms: lending – Makes it illegal to loan a firearm to a person who is personally known to you (except for family members with restrictions).
  • AB 1695 (Bonta) Firearms: false reports – Creates a 10-year prohibition on owning firearms for someone convicted of falsely reporting a lost or stolen firearm.

Mesa Tactical is not the first business affiliated with the gun industry to pack up and leave following the rollout of new gun control laws. Magpul, Steyr Arms, Kahr Firearms all left their homes to pursue greener pastures in gun-friendly states, just to name a few.

On that note, it’ll be interesting to see what Smith & Wesson does following Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey’s unilateral decision to prohibit so-called “copy-cat assault weapons.” Hopefully, it uses its political clout to push back against this rogue and unconstitutional gun ban.

Southern Oregon & Northern California – The State of Jefferson is the solution.

  • Rouge1 August 6, 2016, 10:07 am

I wonder what our corrupt federal government and politicians would consider an infringement of the second amendment? America is done as we knew it. Our second revolution is just around the corner.

  • Todd August 5, 2016, 3:28 pm

All firearms/ammunition manufacturers should leave all anti firearm states.

    S&W ….get out of Mass.
    Colt …..leave Conn.
Kimber why are you still in Yonkers?
Even Springfield Armory and Armalite and Rock River should think about leaving Ill. just because of Cook County.
I applaud all companies that left an oppressive anti gun climate state!!

  • michael August 5, 2016, 11:42 am

Those of us who have not left Ca yet, are guns are being hidden. Oh by the way we intent to buy a whole lots of ammo and gun and hid them too. A lot most {ghost guns} You’ll never get them all Calif Libs. A Vet and a Patriot

    • Jon Wilob August 8, 2016, 11:19 pm

Sure, buy, buy, buy and then hide, hide, hide ’em. Just don’t ever use any of ’em and get caught. If you do you’ll sit and rot in a prison jail cell that some felon occupied just a few days prior. He’s not there now because he was commuted for not committing a violent crime. You can thank our corrupt politicians for this little gift to us! Need I mention any names in particular? Better VOTE this time! It’s a matter of life or death for our nation. Don’t sit this one out.

Beretta had an operation in MD for many years and they finally did the right thing and told the unfree, communist land of MD to suck it and left!! Good for them. MD is a complete joke and horribly dangerous, so what do they do, ban more and more and more of our firearms and make it almost impossible to get CCW.

I just bailed out of there myself, taking my little granddaughter and daughter in law to Oregon to live in a hassle free state in the country. My 03 FFL was rendered basically useless in 2014 and this latest round of repression was just too much for me to swallow. I do not own any so called assault rifles but I have a large collection of WWII rifles including early semi-auto rifles with detachable magazines that are worth quite a bit of money. I used to loved Cali, surfing and golfing my passions but at 68 I realize the end is near for freedom in that state. Sad!!!!! We love Oregon where I don’t have to worry about gun repression and my doors are never locked.

Welcome to Nevada, may your business expand and continue to grow in our 2A friendly State.

  • WhiteFalcon August 5, 2016, 9:24 am

Every last business in California should leave the state as soon as they can find a new and more favorable state to move to. Nevada is a good one. Tennessee is another one, and there are several others.

  • Deadmeat99 August 5, 2016, 9:14 am

These companies need to take this a step further: refuse to do business with ANY entity in California. California fascists don’t care if you leave, that’s what they want. However when these same fascists can no longer arm their security details and are vulnerable to the mob, perhaps they will begin to feel the effects of their decisions.

    • Rick August 5, 2016, 9:52 am

Cali doesn’t care if businesses leave, business as usual to raise taxes on those remaining. Cali couldn’t wait to get hybrid, electric and fuel efficient cars into the state, now they are amazed that gas sales i.e., gas tax revenue is down so their new direction tax the amount of miles you drive regardless of what kind of car you have. If I could leave I would.

  • steve August 5, 2016, 7:38 am

Good decision! I grew up in CA and left when I was 17 (1970). Every year for decades I have had to fly home to visit parents, siblings, etc. It’s a completely different place now. I HATE CA. Well, the parents are gone and I never have to go back to that crazy state ever again! Whew.

  • Rick August 5, 2016, 6:40 am

Congratulations on leaving the communist state of California….

  • Daniel Terrell August 5, 2016, 6:29 am

I would invite any and all shooting sport industry to move to gun friendly Parker, Arizona. We lie on a railroad line and between two Interstate highways (I10 &I40).

    • Robert August 6, 2016, 4:53 pm

Parker would be a good location. I lived in Lake Havasu City 1987 to 1990 when I was the publisher of the newspaper there. If I recollect Parker is where the ski jet was invented and developed. Loved the lake there. Would move there in a minute if I could afford it.

Leaving is the best option. Consolidate decent, useful people in decent, useful states. Let the burden of degeneracy continue to grow in the trash States. Let the fools have exactly what they want. We know it ends badly for them, so left them have it and get the hell out!

  • SuperG August 1, 2016, 11:30 am

Botach is also leaving the PDRC (People’s Democratic Republic of California)
    From their website:
After 25+ years in the same locations we are moving to the great state of Nevada.
Our New Mailing & Shipping Address
4775 West Harmon Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89103

Guess Jerry will have to pass transit laws where you will need a permit to relocate. Sure, that goes against the Constitution, but the federal government seems content to let them abuse it other ways, so why not this one too?

CA 2013 Registered voters: 9 Mil dems, 5 mil Reps. The dems control the dense population centers and the Reps control significantly larger but sparsely populated land mass. Political office seats are driven by X population = z number of political offices. That is why there are always fights and changes to voting district lines.

All Registerd Republicans never show up at the poll. If 2/3 of the dems show they win and have for a long long time with few inconvenient changes. You can’t win. They offer to much free stuff, when they don’t deliver thay aren’t held accountable and they keep getting elected.
Get the hell out while you can, sooner or later you will have to pay a tax or penality to leave.

Although I do understand the gun manufacturers about leaving to a state where they can build a wider variety of weapons and supplies to sell these to their customers and in this case survive on the market, I do not understand why the only reason the people in general see is to leave a state just because of tougher gun laws. I have read countless posts from people on gunsamerica that say “I’m so glad I moved out of this state 20 years ago!” or something like this.

Instead of leaving and giving the states in to these so called “liberals” and “democrats” wouldn’t it be wiser to stay and fight in a political way? For example, in founding groups that demonstrate every Monday (or at any other day as long as it continues frequently to keep the pressure against the government high), inform all the people in the area with flyers how important the 2nd amendment is and what it is all about and give them links to websites and interesting videos where they can learn about the truth etc., I think you get what I mean. Especially now, as the votes will be coming in just a few months I think the time is hot for this. Maybe there are already activist groups out there like that but when I saw the news on gunsamerica about the demonstration in Massachusetts, after attorney general Healey banned the “black rifles” I think they are not powerful enough in numbers and maybe one of the factors to this are people that leave those states instead of staying and becoming political activists.

If all the people just continue to leave to another state with lesser strict gun laws then I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few decades the 2nd amendment will be dead because all the states like California, New Jersey and Massachusetts can spread their anti-gun influences to neighboring states. Then the people that live there will be influenced with this “liberal” point of view and then vote for the enemies of the 2nd amendment as well, due to the fact that all the people that could build a united force to counter this mess politically have already left. And this might continue until all the law-abiding gun owners are standing with their backs to the walls because they were always giving in and left to a state with lesser gun laws. But I do believe if they continue to do it like that, then in some time no state with non-tight gun laws will be left and the time for the American conservatives might be over.

This is all just my personal opinion of course.

    • SuperG August 1, 2016, 11:26 am

I was one of those who posted about being thankful for moving out of the state over 20 years ago. I still am too. I think I called it reason #286 of why I left. It isn’t one straw that breaks the camel’s back, but oppressive gun laws are additive to the overall load. California wants you to be a victim, hence they don’t let you arm and protect yourself in public. It is how they justify huge police forces. But if you watched in horror as the San Jose Police watched Trump supporters get attacked right in front of them and they did nothing, you’ll notice that a large police force is no guarantee of safety. Oakland Police, and the California Highway Patrol allowed a mob to block an interstate freeway. For me, that sent the message that the criminals have more rights than people wanting to get from point A to B, unmolested. Then you can factor in over-population and no infrastructure to support it, hence why it takes you an hour to go 20 miles in the morning. 800K for a shack in a decent town. Income AND sales tax. Add that criminals no longer have a fear of the law in California. They know that even if they are caught for their 8th felony, that they’ll probably be released early to overcrowding, if they are sentenced to prison at all. there is more, but until you have lived the California dream in a large metro area, you will not understand. I did, and I will never go back.

      • Christian August 1, 2016, 12:26 pm

Hello SuperG and thank you for your explanations! Yes, I do think that I am seeing your point and I can tell you that in my country Germany things are often like this as well, with some differences of course. Police also likes to watch when right-wing supporters get violently attacked by these self-called “anti-fascists” (throwing of stones and glass bottles to name two) but they would use any lethal option possible if right-wing protestors would do the same. We also have those overcrowding problems in our jails, at least from what I know so far, but we have guys that have already 20 felonies or more and still never landed in prison, or just for a few weeks, thanks to our “protect the criminal and punish the victim” kind of judges. And if they got a migration background, well then they are like saints to our law system! So, if you think 8 felonies should already be enough for somebody finally going into prison, I can assure you that in my country these 8 felonies would count like he would just have started his first offense. It’s just sick.

I knew that there are some expensive places in California but wow… 800,000 Dollar for a house is very expensive for sure! And if you lack the right of self-defense and criminals can do whatever they want…. well, then I truly see your point! I have one Chinese friend living in California right now and she told me that life is not as sunny and easy as they show you about California on TV. She says there is also much poverty. Personally, if I would be an American myself I would not like to live in California. What happens in San Fernando Valley already disgusts me to the bone. I guess you know what I mean. I think Colorado would be nice for me, if I would be an American, but I never was in your country so it is all just my thinking of course.

Now, thinking again about it, I now understand why you and other Americans are happy they left a place like California. But nevertheless, I am still wondering if good people like you are leaving, then how can these states become better again? Maybe the people that voted for the democrats will only have their eyes finally opened if it’s already too late, at least I got this feeling for my whole country.

Anyway, thanks again for your friendly explanation!

        • Joe McHugh August 5, 2016, 5:58 pm

Christian, we have discussed issues before about Europe in general, and Germany in particular. You seem to be a level headed guy, and I just wish that I could speak and write in German half as well as you do in English. From what I have read about the German language, it is very precise and efficient for communication.

About the Americans fleeing to states that have less restrictions on private firearms ownership, there is another factor that has not been discussed. The majority of the voters here are becoming more and more beguiled by socialism. These people vote for the candidate who promises a bigger government that spreads the wealth from the successful to the not so successful.

Most of these voters lack opinions about private gun ownership, they just want bigger government support checks. This is the main reason that we see a majority of liberal Democrats in the state legislatures of states like California and New York. Worse, almost all of the Democrat elite have hostile feelings about private gun ownership. Your observation that the gun owners will eventually run out of gun friendly states to move to, is an astute one.

Americans are shifting toward socialist programs in ever larger numbers. We may even become more socialist than most of the European countries are now. The difficulty with socialism is found in the cost of realizing the common good. This dilemma is exactly as Margaret Thacher said, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

Some of us see the dark clouds on the horizon. If the American dollar loses its status as being the preferred trade medium, it may very well crash. Let’s face it, our growing debt of 19 trillion dollars is like the Sword of Damocles hanging over our heads. If the dollar loses the full faith and value of the people, we will experience an economic collapse that will make the Great Depression seem like a walk in the park on a rainy day. Chaos will result and our national infrastructure will also suffer. That will lead to food and energy riots that the government will try to suppress.
Then there will be blood. There are well over 300 million firearms in private hands in America. There are at least 100 billion rounds of ammunition being stored for all of those firearms, based on the 10 billion cartridge manufacturing capacity per year of American ammunition factories. The supply of ammunition has recently caught up with the demand but the little .22 cal rimfire supply is still woefully short. Americans are buying foreign made ammunition with the same zeal as American made ammunition. They are not buying in such enormous numbers to shoot rabbits and paper targets, they are storing the stuff.

Now you can appreciate what those dark clouds are. They are the leading front of the gathering mortal storm of upheaval. Chicken Little running around in small circles shouting that the sky is falling? I hope and pray that I am wrong, but Americans are not as stoic as other people. We do not suffer deprivation well. Americans always chose action instead of subservience, especially if the liberal elite live in opulence while 321million people suffer from freezing and starvation. That’s not even counting the 11 to 30 million illegal aliens that are hiding in the shadows. I would predict the outcome of such a terrible future but I have already made this post rather long as it is.

          • Christian August 18, 2016, 9:15 am

            Hello again Joe!

At first I am really really sorry that I have seen your reply just now, 13 days after you have written yours. I thought if an article is not on the main page of gunsamerica anymore, people would stop giving attention to it. But once again you have provided me with a huge amount of information about your country in a very friendly manner and I am very thankful for this!

At first Joe, just let me assure you that my English might be worse, if I won’t use MS Word to write my comments and let it check for spelling and grammar mistakes before I send them to gunsamerica. It’s never too late to learn a new language. I for example had a hard time to write the correct name of Massachusetts.

Anyway, I am surprised about your explanations that America really is moving to a state of Socialism. I thought most of the American people would not be like that as here in Germany we always think that the American people behold their freedom above anything else. But at the same time I am not surprised that your elite wants to disarm its people, for obvious reasons. That is why your ancestors left Europe and that is also why even today the European politicians would do anything to not give us easy access to guns, even not for pure self-defense.

I also enjoyed your explanation about the US Dollar. I do believe that if something gets too big, it will fall under its own weight. As far as I remember that is what Karl Marx always stated. Like him or not but I think he was right with that. We saw it also before him in history. Ancient Rome and Greece where are they today? Fallen apart by numerous enemies and especially by their own weight. Now, back to modern times, if the Dollar would completely break down then yes, the results would be horrible. Not just for the US but even worldwide, as I was able to see in 2008. I remember how the “experts” told us on the first day on TV: “It all just happens in the US. This is nothing to fear of because it will not take over.” Well, at the end it did horribly. And I even see your point about the chaos that would follow. As you surely know, the big crash in 1928 was one of the huge steps that helped Hitler and the NSDAP to achieve power because suddenly millions of German people became unemployed. History can repeat itself easily and that is what we have to be afraid of. There are still enough people out there that have no idea what they do follow. By the way, I was surprised by the huge numbers of ammunition stored and produced in the US. I am also sure; this is not just for hunting or practice.

As you already wrote, I also hope and pray that this, as you described, will hopefully not happen although there are many facts that can say that it does. I feel so lost when I think about the fact that I cannot help to make a change. I tried to awaken the people during numerous demonstrations in Berlin but they don’t want to see the truth. At least I have a clean conscience because I’ve tried.

Thank you again for your friendly explanations Joe!

    • Abner T August 5, 2016, 9:04 am

      Christian,
Your exuberance and commentary is greatly appreciated, especially coming from an “outsider” looking in. I’m afraid the issue is one of apathy. It’s easier to cut and run than stay and fight. Totally different mindset from those who founded and built this great country.
Grassroots efforts take… well, effort. It’s a sad commentary to find that the population will not go out and protest because it’ll make them late for the softball game or because their DVD recorder isn’t working. Until these mindsets change, things will get worse. They always do.
I suspect that most of the people who post comments on boards like these have yet to write one single letter to their congressman about any issue which concerns them, especially one about these officials trying to destroy our Constitution (ie: nobody raises a serious fuss). Thus, the protest lines. both on the street as well as in the emails, are turned over to the paid protesters, the unemployed, and the criminals who have nothing to lose.
Until real leadership returns to the people, nothing will change. Sad…

      • Christian August 18, 2016, 9:32 am

        Hello Abner!

Thank you very much for liking my post, yet I am also sorry for you that I just came here, quite 2 weeks later, to suddenly find your answer to my opinion. Yet, I still want to reply you as well.

What you are telling me about your people is exactly what I experienced when I was on the streets every Monday to protest at Pegida Berlin. During the best times we were up to 400 people. 400 in an around 3.5 million people city! There I saw it with my own eyes: The people don’t want to awake and don’t want to fight for freedom and democracy as they believe it is all for granted. There is no other way I can describe this.

You know, even to the fact that I am not an American, I was thinking about sending a letter to governor Brown of California because his E-Mail address wants you to only use, as far as I remember, 5,000 characters (not words) maximum. Too less to really write my concern about the situation and the new gun bills he was signing. But the problem is, although writing, printing and sending a letter won’t be a problem, the post itself helps for not sending the letter in time. For example, I was writing a letter on 27th October 2015 to the Cassie Bernall Foundation in Denver, Colorado and it arrived at the end of February 2016! Now, when I thought about sending a letter to California, which is even more away than Colorado, I assured myself that my letter would never arrive in time and governor Brown won’t care about the opinion of a non-American anyway. If the German and American post would be way faster in sending a simple letter, I would have done it for sure.

You are absolutely right Abner: Until real leadership returns to the people, nothing will change. But now is the question, what can the American people actually DO to gain leadership back? In Germany we have a saying: “If voting would change something, it would be forbidden.” So, I think voting alone doesn’t help. This is what we need. A good strategy and the good people that are ready to do this long, exhausting political fight and being capable to finally convince many of the American people to change their thinking. But I guess I am not writing anything new.

    • Wake_Up_America August 5, 2016, 11:26 am

The problem with the “unfree” states is that you can fight and fight and fight but it does no good. Those ba$tards are like the gestapo, you cannot deal nor win with them. So after spinning your wheels over and over, the only option left is to leave for another FREE state. I hate CA, never been there and never will spend any of my $$ in that fruit loop state.

      • Christian August 18, 2016, 9:44 am

        Hello Wake_Up_America,

I am sad to say that I’m totally seeing your point. Sad because that there are not many options left for good people that might still be stuck in California. Personally, if I would visit your country one day, I also won’t go to visit California because of many different reasons, not just because of tight gun laws. I think there are plenty better states to visit. And, as I stated already to SuperG, if I would actually be an American and have to live there, I also would choose a different state, for example Colorado, above California.

But I am still sad that the situation in California is this hot that the actual chance to stay in there and fight is that low. Giving up and just fleeing should never be an option, in my personal opinion. So it is very bad when you see that there are states existing in the so called “Land of the free” where you just can leave, if you want to provide a safe future to your family.

  • DRAINO July 29, 2016, 10:05 am

Dang Straight!!! That’s the best thing you can do. Get out of the commie states before they shut you down. Hit them in the pocket book where it hurts most. Now if the rest of the firearms industry would just follow suit and get out of the commie states too, it just might make a point. The division is getting greater in this country. And if Hillary get in office, then a war will likely soon to follow. Prehaps a home-made food shortage first….then war. But war none the less. If you don’t want your kids to be dying in that war, then you better vote for Trump. Mark my words.

  • mike July 29, 2016, 9:46 am

The biggest problem is there is not much of this or push back from gun people to fix or change any of this. Doing what this company did is exactly what they want. While the company made a great choice, I think gun people need to start steeping up to fix the problem from the source, and we better start doing it soon!!
