Colt’s Manufacturing and Talo Distributors have teamed up once again to offer their latest exclusive on the very eve of 2021, the Colt Aztec Empire 1911. This limited-edition run will only total 500 pieces and is currently shipping to dealers now.
The Colt Aztec Empire is the newest in a series of 1911 pistols celebrating the history and culture of Mexico and the West. Other pistols in the family include the Colt Aztec Gold, the Aztec Jaguar and Aztec Jaguar Knight, the Emiliano Zapata Centennial, and the Colt Mexican Heritage 1911.
The Aztec Empire is a gorgeous effort put together by some of the best artists and engravers Colt and Talo collaborate with. It contrasts an extremely detailed slide inlaid with 24-karat gold highlights with an all-black frame with decorative black pearlite grips.
The slide and frame feature a deep royal blue finish that’s polished to a shine on the slide, while the frame is matte front to back with glossy flats. The trigger and grip safety are also left matte while the slide stop, thumb safety and magazine release are all polished to a shine to match the left and right sides of the frame.
The Aztec Empire is a full-size 1911 with a 5-inch stainless steel National Match barrel and carbon steel Series 70 slide and frame. Owing to its popularity in Mexico and other southern nations, the Colt Aztec Empire is chambered for .38 Super and feeds from 9-round magazines.
In addition to the Aztec engravings, the Colt logo and rampant pony emblem are gold-inlaid, and the grip screws are gold-plated to blend in with the stylized grips.
And one nice final touch is that each pistol comes with a matching etched stainless steel Columbia River Knife and Tool pocketknife.
With Colt limiting production to 500 units these will sell out, although maybe not all at once. The suggested price for these is $2,495, with some dealers already listing these for sale for less, starting around $2,200.

I think current Mexican gun laws prohibit owning anything more effective than .380ACP.

My understanding is that citizens may not have weapons in military calibers in Mexico. Don’t know when that became their law. That is why the .38 Super has always been popular there.
Ruger sold Mini-14’s in several countries in .222 Remington for the same reason. Of course the criminals don’t care just like everywhere else.

Gary Grist – This pistol is a work of art, for sure. There in itself is the value of it. Why do derogatory bitching about something that you can not afford? Or was it is said in jest? (I hope) I have several collector pistols and revolvers produced by our fine artisans and smiths. If I have enough dough, I am all for this beauty from Colt.
So, l am going over to my LGS today to discuss ways to get one for my safe. By the way, I consider all drug dealers and cartels our enemies and I don’t think that these scums honor their Aztec culture much.

Tom: If you learn about the history of the 38 Super cartridge, then you’ll understand. Basically Colt created it back in the 1920s so they could chamber it without making any significant changes to their 1911 and then sell the guns in the huge S. & Central American civilian markets, because guns that shot military rounds like the .45 were prohibited to individuals.
