National wholesaler Davidson’s has partnered with Baron Engraving and Colt’s Manufacturing to produce a very select run of 1911 pistols. These 1911s will make up the Samuel Colt Limited Edition to honor the world-renown inventor and industrialist.

These highly detailed and generously embellished handguns are all built using Series-70 Colt 1911s with match-grade barrels. They’re Government-pattern pistols of course chambered for .45 ACP that feed from standard 7-round flush magazines.

Davidson’s has commissioned Baron to engrave 1,000 of these masterpiece pistols for the Sam Colt Limited Edition. The first 500 are these high-polish blued steel models, while the next batch of 500 handguns will be polished stainless steel pistols.

In addition to the engraving the pistols feature gold inlays on the Colt logo and gold rampant pony and “Onion Dome” factory emblems, along with a goldcrest on the top of the slide and a gold banner on the right side.

The crest depicts Samuel Colt and reads “God Created Man, Colonel Colt Made Them Equal.” The banner is marked “Colt’s Patent Firearms Mfg. Co.,” reflecting the original company name and “Hartford Conn., U.S.A.”

“Even in extremely unusual market conditions, Davidson’s is proud to continue to be an innovator and creator of distinctive exclusive firearms,” said Davidson’s Vice President Kane Cannedy. “We thrive on our relationships with our vendors and the ongoing partnership between Davidson’s, Colt, and Baron Engraving is a reflection of this commitment.”

Each pistol is priced at $2,199, which is not inexpensive but still attainable for Colt collectors. They come with both custom black pearlite display grips as well as a set of checkered walnut grips for the range, or just as likely, the barbecue.

Samuel Colt, born in 1814, founded Colt’s Manufacturing in 1855, succeeding his first firearms enterprise that he started in 1836. And while the company has had its ups and downs throughout history, it is still one of the most widely recognized gun makers around the world.
