One of two would-be armed robbers is dead after a run-in with a concealed carry permit holder this past Sunday. The duo was pretending to be police officers at the time of the encounter, which occurred in the Mayfair neighborhood in Northeast Philly.
As reported by ABC 6 News, the two suspects approached the 25-year-old victim as he entered his home after parking his car. The armed men claimed to be police officers and even had a fake badge on a chain.
After entering the man’s home and cuffing him with zip ties, the impersonators threatened the man and woman inside, demanding money.
“They tied his hands with zip ties around his back and threatened to kill him if he made any sudden moves,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. “That’s when our victim realized these individuals were not police officers.”
With his carry gun in his pocket, the man was able to free himself from the zip ties and shoot one of the perps three times, fatally wounding him. The other perp fled the scene.

Police are still investigating and searching for the escaped impersonator, but no charges are expected for the resident who successfully defended his home.
“We did find some cameras in the neighborhood and hopefully we can find some video that could help us with this investigation,” added Chief Inspector Small.
Police confiscated both the gun used by the impersonator and the gun used by the permit holder to defend the residence.
We can only hope that the police find a way to return the gun to the resident in a timely manner so that he can continue to legally use it to defend his family.
Have at least one or two backups of the same caliber/ neighbor held at gunpoint by man wearing a deputy’s shirt / took him outside zip tied his hands and put a plastic bag over his head to kill him for drugs in the house /guy broke loose and ran to my house 1/2 mile told my wife the police were trying to kill him / wife got her 38 and called the police who caught the guy and recovered 3- 12 foot trailers full of stolen items/ she stood guard with her 38 until the police arrived and identified the man and the criminal. / move to Mississippi
In a just world the police would clear both weapons set the ammo on his table with the guns a go on with their business. Clean shoot you keep the loot
Amazing; a justified shooting in Libtardville isn’t being prosecuted.
It is of serious concern that home invaders can pose as law enforcement officers. Someone breaks your door down and shouts “police!”. Are you going to shoot them? How can you know for sure? If it really is the cops (enforcing a no-nock warrant at the wrong address) and they see you with a gun, they will shoot you on the spot. You are sort of reduced to retreating into the recesses of your home until you can figure out who they really are, if that’s possible. NO, COPS DON’T SEE A SUSPECTED PERP WITH A GUN AND START ASKING QUESTIONS, LIKE ON TV SHOWS. THEY MUST SHOOT AND ASK QUESTIONS LATER. THEY HAVE NO CHOICE. Forgive my shouting, but folks need to know it’s not like on TV. I really think we are going to see more and more of these scenerios. God bless and stay safe.

I know them well and can shoot like hell with them but if they(Cops) get them I have
not lost my current Match Guns.
I shoot a Multi-gun combat type competition most every weekend for 10+ yr now.
Thieves come here they are going to have a serious problem.
We see it on TV all the time when an object is declared as “evidence” and grabbed up by the police. This usually means a lawsuit against the police, lawyers’ fees, and a long delay in getting the property returned.
This is outrageous! Once the case is closed the gun should be returned promptly or the gun owner be adequately reimbursed to cover all related costs, especially the additional legal fees. This just goes to show that having a backup gun is important, especially under these circumstances.

I agree with Dr. John. No reason to confiscate the homeowner’s firearm. Just too bad he didn’t snuff out the other perp. Give him his gun back. Maybe he’ll eliminate more scum.

That’s not how it works. Anytime you use a firearm to defend yourself (even legally) the firearm will be confiscated as it is evidence in a potential crime. What sometimes appears to be lawful self-defense at the time turns out to be something else. Once cleared of any wrongdoing, the firearm will be returned to the individual who acted lawfully to defend himself.
I had to deal w/ a situation where I defended my families home and the cops did take my gun but, I did get it back about a year later. I’d continue to pursue getting it back, don’t rely on the cops to return it on their behalf.
Or…own more than one firearm
