He 'Just Went Bananas': Crazed Monkey Shot, Killed by Glock-Toting HVAC Repairman

Crazy can happen anywhere, but one HVAC repairman in North Carolina was ready.

The Charlotte Observer reported last week that a pet Japanese macaque had escaped its enclosure and attacked a neighbor woman in the coastal town of Shallotte, NC.

The primate “just went bananas,” Shallotte Detective Sgt. John Holman told the Observer. The monkey bit and scratched the neighbor’s arms and legs as she stood talking to an HVAC repairman outside her home. After the monkey began to draw blood, he ran across the street to a different neighbor’s house and started beating on a glass door.

The HVAC repairman, who police have not named, approached the macaque, who turned and began moving towards the man. That’s when the CCL holder pulled out his Glock handgun and shot the monkey once, killing it.

Police say the man’s license is in order, and he won’t be charged with a crime.

“He was protecting the citizen and the neighborhood,” Holman told the Observer.

As for the owner of the monkey, police say he owns several other exotic pets, but he was properly licensed to own them. He did admit to police that the now-deceased macaque was particularly “aggressive.”

In that the primate wouldn’t be unique. Macaques frequently attack tourists in New Delhi, India, where they live in large numbers and interact with humans daily. If you find yourself facing down an angry macaque (and you’re less prepared than our HVAC repairman), experts say you should surrender your food, avoid eye contact, and not show your teeth.

While monkeys remain an unlikely adversary in the continental United States, pet dogs account for about 10,000 hospitalizations and 25 deaths each year. In 2015, for example, a woman was attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull while walking to her mailbox. The animal had escaped through a window and may have been riled by a storm rolling through the area.

The dog killed the 48-year-old woman and continued to attack neighbors until police arrived and shot the dog.

The woman who was attacked by the macaque last week went to the hospital but is expected to be OK, thanks in large part due to the quick action of the CCL holder.

I bet that monkey was a treasonous democrat supporter who would have attacked an innocent good ol’boy at the drop of a cowboy hat given the chance. That’s why we need a wall to keep monkeys like that out of the US!

That poor monkey was just turning his life around. Just another pointless killing of a misunderstood innocent monkey!!!!

This is BS!!! First they get my homeboy Harambe now they get this innocent animal, it’s time to ban high capacity mags and them AR15 glocks. He should have just called the cops so they could viciously murder the animal 15 mins after.

I know many pitt bull owners swear they\’re wonderful, gentle family members, and I\’ve been around these dogs … but the facts, over and over, are that a pitt bull is a terrible tragedy waiting to happen. Hundreds of years of breeding to, duh, \”pitt bull killers\” … it\’s not the dog\’s fault.

When stationed in Cubi Pt, Philippines, I used to buy an ice cream cone or sandwich after eating mid rats to enjoy while walking down the hill back to work. The road cut through dense jungle and small – grey I think – monkeys would come out and follow me. I always assumed they wanted the ice cream but refused to share it. One night a couple of monkeys seemed overly aggressive getting too close so I picked up a small rock and threw it near them, just to scare them away.
Well, not only were they not frightened but one of them picked up the rock and threw it back. It didn’t hit me and wasn’t thrown that hard but then other monkeys began to gather, got noisy and another threw a rock. I ended up throwing the ice cream at them and running down the hill, not wanting to get bit. There’s not telling what diseases they carry, especially after what we learned about aids.
An older pet chimpanzee in Las Vegas attacked a women a few years ago, chewed off her face and almost killed her. Turns out, money attacks aren’t that unusual.
For me the lesson learned for me is: Several species of monkeys are nasty, ill tempered and dangerous. I wouldn’t have one of these crap throwing things near me. Schmuck a bunch of monkeys, don’t like ’em, don’t need ’em, don’t want ’em. I’m glad the A/C guy shot that nasty thing.

Another reason to carry concealed. After all you just don’t know what’s monkeying around out there.

“Experts say you should surrender your food, avoid eye contact, and not show your teeth.” I like the Glock solution better.

When I was about 4 my grandmother had two small monkeys. They had black fur but the hair on their head was long and white.Stood straight up like a Don King hairdo. She kept them in a big ornate cage in the corner of her giant kitchen. She spoke only French to them. They seemed to understand her pretty well.Id go out near my grandfather’s barn and flip over planks and catch crickets and carry them back in a dixie cup. With outstretched arms the monkeys saw me coming.I would give each a cricket and they’d stuff them in thire mouths.I laughed when a leg hung out still kicking. When the crickets were gone Id show them the empty cup. They would have a horrified look on thire faces. They thanked my kindness by throwing feces at me.I never cared much for French monkeys.
