The Most Definitive Scientific Study on the Question of, ‘Do Guns Kill People?’

Are guns responsible for “gun crime” and “gun violence” and “gun deaths”?

2ndVote, a non-profit conservative watchdog, has embarked on a first-of-its-kind, rigorously scientific experiment to find out.

Behold, the GunCam:

It’s a joke, obviously, but it makes a serious point: guns don’t commit crimes—criminals do, usually with firearms they aren’t legally allowed to possess in the first place.

We reached out to 2ndVote Executive Director Lance Wray for more information about the GunCam and what 2ndVote hopes to accomplish with the display.

Q. What sparked the idea for the GunCam?

A. Anti-2nd Amendment activists claim that firearms are the cause of violence and deaths and as a result they should be outlawed. So we’re testing their claims. We’re allowing the public to monitor for themselves a firearm around the clock, 24/7, and in real time. We can then see for ourselves if our GunCam gun commits any violence. GunCam illustrates the truth which is: a gun doesn’t commit crimes, people do. In fact, criminals do.

Interestingly, anti-2nd Amendment activists conveniently ignore the fact that the majority of gun crimes are committed by criminals who ignore the very laws that seek to restrict gun ownership anyway.

Q. What do you hope to accomplish with the GunCam? What do you want to communicate?

A. 2ndVote GunCam is an ongoing demonstration reinforcing the fact that legal gun owners rank at the top of the safest demographics in the country. The violence propagandized by the left is, statistically speaking, almost always committed by criminals who do not follow the law anyway. It is only common sense that these same criminals would not abide by any gun laws. Clearly, gun laws will only take away guns from law-abiding citizens.

The real truth to the gun debate is a fundamental 2nd Amendment issue. Anti-gun activists seek to take away Americans’ 2nd Amendment right to defend themselves. It is also about giving more power to government and less to its citizens. The misinformation on guns spread by anti-2nd Amendment activists is politically motivated, not based on fact.

Q. How has the GunCam been received? Have you garnered the attention you’d hoped for?

A. Our 2nd Vote members and firearm enthusiasts are all saying the same thing, “This is great!” These people understand the point we’re making, and the fun we’re having doing it. We want them to continue to participate and help us share GunCam’s message. Of course, the mainstream media has no interest in talking about the issues raised by GunCam because it goes against the narrative pushed by the left.

Q. What do you see as the biggest threat facing the Second Amendment today?

A. Complacency. With every legislation and court decision that upholds the 2nd Amendment, we can’t assume the anti-gun left will give up the battle on this issue. We want to make GunCam a catalyst for stimulating conversation, something that is easily shared on social media and reminds people about the importance of protecting gun ownership, and even more important – our 2nd Amendment rights.
