Delaware Senator Refuses to Apologize for Saying Gun Control Could Cause Another Holocaust

Widespread civil disarmament is a recipe for unbridled tyranny.  A Delaware senator made this observation publicly this week and is now taking flak from his progressive peers in the General Assembly.

“For we in this chamber to think that it (the Holocaust) can’t happen here? That is absolutely a fool’s errand,” said state Sen. Dave Lawson (R-Kent County) on Monday, while speaking on the Senate floor.

“We can when we continue to take away the rights, we continue to work on disarming our population, our legally owned firearms, taking away and continue to encroach on that. …  We continue this path that we’re taking, please don’t forget that everything that Hitler did was legal. Murdering those people was legal. Disarming those people was legal. Do we want to follow that same path? Because I’m telling you, from where I sit, it’s not that far away.”

Sen. Lawson made his comments while the chamber was voting on a bill to have Delaware officially recognize International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Jan. 27th — a bill Lawson supported.

During the proceedings, 89-year-old Holocaust survivor Ann Jaffe shared her story.  One of Lawson’s critics claim that he unfairly politicized Jaffe’s experience and that he should apologize for doing so.

“Sen. Lawson took that horrifying recounting of surviving a genocide, and while Ms. Jaffe was still in the chamber, tried to turn her somber story into a Second Amendment argument,” said state Rep. Debra Heffernan (D-Bellefonte). “Sen. Lawson owes Ms. Jaffe an apology.”

Lawson, a former cop, responded Tuesday, arguing that his comments about the government infringing on individual rights actually resonated with Ms. Jaffe.

“Mrs. Jaffe understood exactly what I was saying,” Lawson told Delaware Online. “And she sat there and nodded the whole time I was talking. And I walked over and talked to her afterwards. … I don’t owe her an apology or anyone else in the Holocaust. That’s bizarre. That’s a twist, an absolute twist by the Democrat machine. I don’t owe anyone an apology. This is a country that supports free speech … I have a right to say those things.”

Caution was the apparent message, as Lawson went on to say that “history repeats itself and we’re well on our way” because of the “path that we are headed with legislation generally enables this kind of behavior.”

The Republican senator did not refer to any specific legislation but noted that along with gun control, limitations on free speech and abortion laws are leading us down a dangerous road.

Fellow state Sen. Laura Sturgeon (D-Brandywine West) blasted Lawson on Facebook, writing, “He actually believes a Holocaust Remembrance resolution with survivor testimony is a good time to make a pro-gun political argument.”

Likewise, Democratic Party Chairman Erik Raser-Schramm chided Lawson.

“His comments suggest either a primitive understanding of the horrific forces that led to the Nazi slaughter of 6 million Jews, or a sinister motive to pervert history to fit his hard-line narrative on guns,” said Raser-Schramm in a statement “We must reject the disquieting, politically motivated exploitation of the Holocaust without ever forgetting its true lessons.”

In case there is any confusion on the matter or in case one is inclined to side with either Sturgeon or Raser-Schramm — the truth is gun control KILLS! The FACTS and DATA really speak for themselves.

Check out the “Death By Gun Control Chart” also known as the “Genocide Chart” put together by our friends over a JPFO (Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership). It settles the debate.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The left may not believe their actions are detrimental to our form of government and way of life, but historically once they take our guns, all other Rights and Liberties will fall.

It’s becoming pretty obvious, with this current push to disarm us, that the progs have a time-table in mind for talking complete contol. They have to get MOST (No one thinks it’s possible to get ALL) our guns and ammo before they can do that. It won’t be prett…

Dems hate it when the foolishness of their ideology gets called out and compared to real world events. Somehow, it is bad form to be concerned over another government backed slaughter, but worries that a conservative Potus is the next Hitler is fair game.
While an official government-run murder of Jews is doubtful in the US, a pogrom from various hateful elements in the population, right, left, or Muslim is currently flowing underground–look at 2 outspoken members of the House right now, and the rise of anti-Semitic attacks–so this Delaware Senator is on the money. All Jews should be getting CCPs is any state that allows it, and hey, keep pepper spray handy. I want MY gastroenterologist to make it to the clinic in the morning, not beaten on the street.

Applauds, slowly, loudly. This is why the 2 A was penned. Not hunting.

Anyone who trusts politicians or governments to protect their lives, property, freedoms, are ignorant of history. The past has given countless examples the atrocities perpetrated in the guise of legalities in the form racial, religious, ethnic, gentic, political, etc. The list is endless. The true enemies of your safety, freedoms are your own inaction .When you fail to take steps to defend yourselves against tyranny. The basic right of self preservation is the first law of nature. This law is ingrained in any living creature to deny you the means to do so is tyrany.

In today’s world of easily bruised victims you do not muck around with that h-word.
It’s a proprietary word and a pastey looking goy like Lawson should know better.
Way to fuck up a good point, schmuck.

Recognition of the Holocaust makes this the MOST APPROPRIATE time to make his point, & perhaps wake the “woke” folks into seeing the consequences of blind calls for gun control. Two thumbs up for the Senator.

i thought it was brilliant….he used their same tired old mantra “6 million gazillion deaths by nazis”, to hammer home his pro 2nd views……. haha…….. just brilliant

  • Ray January 31, 2020, 12:59 pm

The man has my support. How can people argue historical facts???

  • Michael J January 31, 2020, 12:38 pm

Leave it to a stupid Democrat to spin the holocaust. How would they feel to be rounded up, degraded, experimented on and given that final shower. Wait, this is America, it couldn’t happen here.

Congrats to State Sen, Dave Lawson on your views on gun control . You should run for President !!!!!!! ( his views from an article written 01/30/2020 by S.H Blannelberry.)

  • Andrew January 31, 2020, 11:10 am

NEVER apologize to the left. Show no weakness to these fascists especially when you are 100% correct.
Their attempts to control speech & its meanings is just one step in destroying our rights and trying to silence opposition.

  • Mr. Sparkles January 31, 2020, 10:47 am

A holocaust remembrance is EXACTLY the right time to bring up the 2nd amendment.

The one amendment that might have made a difference had it been in the books in Germany, China, Cuba, or any other nation or society that has suffered a genocide.

Two words for the Delaware Dems- “Truth Hurts”,,, two thumbs way up for state Sen. Dave Lawson (R-Kent County)!

  • Gary Valentine January 31, 2020, 8:47 am

Hey Democratic hypocrites, by comparison, your shameless ATTACK on our 2A rights after a shooting is the same frickin’ thing!

  • rsmalt January 31, 2020, 8:41 am

Kudos to Sen. Lawson, for (politely) telling his progtard associates to blow a goat.

  • Vic January 31, 2020, 6:45 am

Very good argument, there were 500,000 Gypsies holocausted however jpfo omitted deaths of 3 million Poles in ww2 holocaust, the second in number ethnic group “eliminated” by the Germans.
We need to remember that Poland was the only occupied country where giving shelter to the Jews was punished by death and thousands died by doing so.

  • Tom January 31, 2020, 6:29 am

Thank you Senator. I too once heard a Holocaust survivor mention if the Jews even had 5000 hand guns things might have been different.

My recent observations and analysis of the 2A demonstration is as follows….

    1. It proved gun owners with firearms present can be lawfully and peacefully assembled.

    2. It proved the First Amendment worked because of the Second Amendment

    3. It proved substantial firepower was assembled in a public setting, more than the police could resist if they were ordered to disarm the people

    4. It proved the Democrats raised the fear factor with a false narrative of violence aforethought comparing apples to oranges

    5. It proved the Democrats have already made up their minds and said they are doing the will of the electorate (a skewed electorate !)

    6. It proved #5 that urban electorates are the only way the Democrats can assert their socialist and globalist narrative.

    7. It proved “We the People” can still discern political wind well enough to face it head on…. people who “Understand the times” (1 Chro 12:32)

    8. It proved the culture war is more and more becoming an “irrepressible conflict” (to quote Sen, Seward, 1858)

Excellent comments. And the right to keep and bare arms is pertinent to the holocaust. They lost their rights and arms. And millions died. All survivers tell us, never give up your guns!!
