A pro-gun congresswoman from Colorado is facing criticism from Democrats after she displayed several firearms in the background of an online video committee hearing.
“If somebody wants to have a shrine to their gun fetish as a Zoom backdrop in their private life they can do that,” U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman said during a meeting of the House Committee on Natural Resources.
“But this is our ‘hearing room,’ and at some point we will get past the COVID epidemic, and we’ll all start showing up in person, and our safety and our ability to conduct business civilly without feeling threatened is a relevant consideration, unfortunately,” she continued.
U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert set up the display in response to a proposal that would prohibit committee members from carrying guns in the in-person hearing room. Even during her election campaign, Boebert has been outspoken about her desire to carry firearms at the Capitol.
Rep. Boebert called Rep. Huffman a “creep” in an interview with Fox News’ Mike Emanuel and claimed his “disdain for the Constitution was on full display.”

“Rather than having a productive debate about policy … Democrats were too busy mocking the Constitution and disrespecting the everyday Americans that I was elected to represent,” Boebert said.
“This was my first committee hearing and the chairman couldn’t stop attacking, degrading, and insulting committee members,” she continued. “I am busy fighting against the left’s real fetish for power and stripping Americans of their constitutional rights.”
Her spokesman told Fox News that the display in the background of her video call had been set up at her home in Rifle, Colorado.
Later that day on Twitter, Rep. Huffman doubled down on his comments, citing Boebert’s background as justification for prohibiting firearms in committee rooms.

Rep. Huffman has long advocated for tougher restrictions on the ability of congresspeople to carry firearms at the Capitol. Prior to the riots on January 6, the California representative called the Capitol “one of the most fortified and secure places on earth” and accused members like Rep. Boebert of being “paranoid” for wanting to carry firearms.
Huffman hasn’t responded to a GunsAmerica request to revise or clarify his comments, but he has moved forward with the “No Congressional Gun Loophole Act,” which would prohibit congresspeople from carrying firearms anywhere at the Capitol.
This isn’t the first time Rep. Boebert has stirred controversy over her pro-gun stance. She reportedly clashed with Capitol Police last month when she set off one of the metal detectors set up by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and refused to let officers look through her purse. She also gained attention after founding Shooter’s Grill, where the waitresses openly carried firearms.
The only fetish I’m aware of is the one I just discovered when I see a Pro-2A Congresswoman wearing Librarian glasses.
Anyone that criticizes this woman or anyone else for doing what she is doing is denying her of exercising her constitutional rights. I am doing it to you right now, how do you like it? My first thought was that her doing this might not have been a great idea. But then I thought about a friend of mine who is always saying that he is starting to feel shame for being a gun owner and even for being patriotic.
