Dick's Pulling Firearms, Hunting Gear from 125 Stores Amid Continued Backlash from Pro-Gunners

Dick’s Sporting Goods will stop selling firearms and other hunting products in at least 100 of its stores.  The move is the result of declining sales due, in part, to negative consumer reaction to the company’s policy on gun sales.

After the shooting in Parkland , Florida, the CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods, Edward Stack, made the decision to stop selling guns to adults under the age of 21, and to destroy current inventory and stop selling AR-15 style rifles as well as magazines which hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

Stack became a gun-control activist calling for Congress to pass “common-sense” gun safety laws.  He hired lobbyists through the company to push for federal gun control and became an outspoken advocate for the anti-gun community.

As a result, some firearms manufacturers stopped doing business with Dick’s completely.

In addition, the company saw steadily declining sales in its hunting department.  The company’s Chief Financial Officer, Lee Belitsky, said that sales were “negatively impacted by double-digit declines in hunt and electronics.”

Stack said that he was prepared to deal with the fallout from the gun community.  The time to deal with that fallout has come.

The New York Times reports this week that Dick’s earnings are down.  “[S]ame-store sales fell 3.1 percent in the 12 months that ended Feb. 2 from the comparable period a year earlier.”

“In the fourth quarter, which included the holiday shopping season, adjusted same-store sales were down 2.2 percent,” the New York Times reported.  “Net income for the quarter fell to $102.6 million, or $1.07 a share, from $116 million, or $1.11 a share in the year-earlier period.”

Consumer reaction to Dick’s policy on guns was called a “meaningful driver” in the sales declines.

“People in the gun business are not terribly happy with us,” said Stack. “They said we were toxic, which is fine with us; we’re not going to change the way we’re going.”

Dick’s intends to combat the drop in earnings by removing firearms and other hunting products in 125 of its stores.  The company did a trial run using this strategy with 10 of its stores in the fall.  During the trial, firearms and other hunting products were replaced with batting cages, ski apparel and other sports gear.  The change resulted in an increase in sales numbers.

I suppose Dick’s will have to chalk this one up to a lesson learned.  You cannot have an anti-gun policy and expect pro-gun consumers to buy your products and support your brand.

When it comes to the gun community, you are either with us or you are against us.  There can be no middle ground.  Dick’s chose to stand on the anti-gun side of the line, leaving them little choice but to get out of the gun business in order to save their bottom line.

The liberal mentality means lack of common sense. My guns haven’t killed (or wounded) anyone since day one! I’ll bet the majority of gun-related crimes are committed by Democrats or those who support the Democrats. Therefore Democrats and liberals should be banned from owning guns. According to the liberal mentality, since automobiles kill people every day, automobiles should also be banned. This is stupidity at the highest level.

A few years ago I went to Dicks and saw a sign instructing customers that no concealed weapons are allowed in their store. I returned to my car and have not been to their business again. At that time Dicks had guns for sale. If you sell guns but don’t allow them in your store you don’t get my $$.

  • Ejharb March 24, 2019, 7:28 am

Stock holders put this joker in charge so it’s on them when their investment goes down the toilet.
Most gun people will never step in their stores now.

  • Ed March 23, 2019, 11:28 am

The decision by management to stop selling hunting equipment, coming after their no-AR’s decision, illustrates the mediocrity of the company as a “sporting goods” retailer. Compared to their peers, they are a C level store. Their management practices have become poor and it’s reflected in their stores. I stopped shopping at Dick’s years ago and have never looked back.

  • Mr. Sparkles March 21, 2019, 2:35 pm

Interesting that Field & Stream will continue to sell firearms.

Small minded CEO gets to puff out his chest for the liberals but still make money selling guns. Excellent marketing strategy!

  • Marvin H. Floyd March 21, 2019, 12:20 pm

I couldn’t agree more all gun control activist need to be in jail or the very least kicked out of our country!

  • Dale Piotrowski March 17, 2019, 4:21 am

Dicks Sporting (which they now need to rename) apparently doesn’t understand the whole gun stance issue. This is overall becoming a larger matter of small minded people in areas of state that don’t believe in the constitution. I haven’t and will never shop there. Freedom is a God given right and these activists need to be in jail!

    • Xaivier Sincalire March 18, 2019, 10:47 am

I couldn’t agree more. ” Freedom is a God given right and these activists need to be in jail!”

  • Michael Crain March 16, 2019, 10:57 pm

Owning a gun or rifle is as “American As Apple Pie”. #ProtectThe2nd

  • George March 16, 2019, 8:35 pm

No brainer for me, never have really liked Dick’s prices or marketing anyway, Just been in the stores a few times and this makes it much easier for me to never go again!

  • jimhell666 March 16, 2019, 6:16 pm

Dicks you should know that most hunters are also fishermen. You are taking them out because nobody is buying them. You should never have gone against the NRA. Suffer the consequences. I will spend my money at BassPro.

    • Xaivier Sincalire March 18, 2019, 10:50 am

Cabela’s as well The heck with Dick’s it is there lose, Personally I like Bass Pro and Cabela’s more better selection.

  • Manosteel March 16, 2019, 5:13 pm

I hope they go bankrupt! They never had a good selection, just trendy non functional crap, and what they had was way overpriced!

  • Rick McC. March 16, 2019, 2:55 pm

What the idiots fail to realize is that “us gun people” buy more products than just guns. For instance, I’m also into camping, bicycling, kayaking, boating, and fishing, just to name a few, and Dicks will never see another dime of my money for anything!

Dick’s pulling out of gun business, sales are flaccid.

  • srsquidizen March 16, 2019, 7:41 am

This is still a free capitalist country (well, kinda sorta for the moment anyway) so management of businesses large and small are free to decide what products to sell, even if those decisions carry the stench of political catering to special interests intent on taking away our rights. I stopped shopping at Dick’s completely when they banned modern sporting rifles. Their stock fell on that one. This decision will not play well in states where most people respect the Constitution. If I owned Dick’s stock I’d be dumping it. Chapter 11 awaits.

  • Patrick Hank March 16, 2019, 3:26 am

Hope they go bankrupt. Never even heard of them until they went anti 2A. Certainly will never shop there if I ever live in a place where these stores are.

Boycott ALL anti 2A businesses and frequent their competitors.

    • Xaivier Sincalire March 18, 2019, 10:53 am

Patrick Hank right there with ya most of their competitors have better selections 🙂

  • Ken Hayn March 15, 2019, 9:01 pm

If you Hunters / Shooters / Fishermen are True Believer’s in the Constitution of the United States then you all can NOT Support any of the Anti Gun Store’s .

But MOST of ALL VOTE these ANTI GUN Politician’s OUT OF OFFICE

If I am correct the NRA boasts 5 Million members and there are Many other Pro SPORTSMEN & WOMEN in other Private Club’s , Public Range’s , Fishing Associations……………. Do the Right thing Don’t BUY and DO VOTE——- ONLY YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN

  • Alan March 15, 2019, 8:08 pm

    Dick’s – Aptly named.

    • Steve March 3, 2020, 7:59 am

      Maybe it should be Dicks……Head

  • mcFoo March 15, 2019, 6:42 pm

IMO- Good time to short-sell Dicks! And rename it to “Akmeds Sporting Goods” after the bankruptcy. I personally do not shop there. Prices not good and service is a joke.

Go into any Dick’s and they have 2 or 3 teenagers working the floor & register. it is never busy. Bankrupt soon.

  • Tom March 15, 2019, 5:58 pm

    Dick’s who!

  • JMichael270 March 15, 2019, 5:48 pm

HA!HA!HA! Stack just shot himself in the other foot……He is one dumb SOB CEO. With declining sells he removes remaing guns and hunting equipment out of 125 stores, does he really think he will get more liberals business to offset the loss of conservatives that buy most outdoors sporting equipment. I foresee the closing of Dick”s due to a Real Dick!

  • Carl H Shaver March 15, 2019, 4:06 pm

Hey y’all avoid Field and Stream too…. They probably just moved the crap too them…. Same owners… Hit em where it hurts …

    • 2012Viking March 17, 2019, 10:06 am

The only problem is that F&S is one of the most stocked and biggest selection of firearms, hunting and fishing gear and apparel in my area. I do avoid them if I know someone else has what I am looking for but no one comes close to there selection. The only other retailer in my area that is close is Dunhams but they have almost no fishing stuff there, which F&S has a ton of.

  • david March 15, 2019, 4:01 pm

    • David A Welsh March 15, 2019, 10:06 pm

      Oh boo hoo to you.

  • AJ March 15, 2019, 3:18 pm

It’s interesting that shooting sports are the only ones to come under fire when it comes to the sports community.
The irony of the matter is, it’s the only sport that doesn’t directly simulate war in some way, shape, or form.

Most ball games, other than baseball and cricket, see two teams of human beings go head to head it a competition of strength, endurance, and skill. In an effort to accomplish a goal of conquering to the other team. Play books literally contain battle strategies.

However shooting sports are about placing hits on paper, steel, or clay. This is more reminiscent of hunting, which also does not simulate human war.

So I think this whole show is just blatant ignorance.

  • Howard March 15, 2019, 3:10 pm

I’ve never been inside a Dick’s Sporting Goods store as there are none within 50 miles of where I live. This must be a blessing in disguise. I will say that the Connecticutt Supreme courts decision to hold Remington responsible for Sandy Hook is as absurd as Ford being held responsible for all drunk driving.

    • Pat March 28, 2019, 1:34 pm

BOOM!!! EXACTLY!!! Do you know why lying, crooked, corrupt, un-American politicians are so afraid of guns?….because they’re easier to conceal than a Ford.

  • Mike March 15, 2019, 2:56 pm

I am sick of these big chain stores succumbing to the banking cartels and liberal pressure for a gun free America. When this country fails all the crying liberals will go screaming protect me please. I say man up and protect your God given right to protect yourself and your family.

  • Gene S. March 15, 2019, 2:46 pm

Dick\’s always was and still is an over priced sporting goods store. I went to the local one when it first opened and thought prices were super high. The Owner and CFO thinks they lost money before, hang on snoopy, more negative sales are coming. Anyone I talk to that supports the right to carry a weapon states that they are done shopping at Dick\’s. A few morons that get a gun and screw it up for everyone should be prosecuted to the max. We do need some new laws that takes the person that shoots up a place, face the death penalty. If we tighten our laws up about prosecuting someone and attach the death penalty, it could help. Bring back our Mental Health that most states have thrown out the window.. It seems like Dick\’s want\’s to take the rights away from everyone. That is the right to bear arms and the right to shop anywhere they want. I am taking and standing up for my right to bear arms \”LEGALLY\”, My right to shop wherever I want \”Peacefully\” and never step in Dick\’s store again. If you go belly up, remember who who tried to screw. Gun owners have rights also. It was ok for me to carry a gun and kill people in the Vietnam War, but I can\’t carry one to protect myself and my family. Take our Guns away and the criminals will still have them. Good Luck.

    • Doc Rios March 16, 2019, 11:14 am

      Yeppers on that death penalty.

  • Chuck KImberl March 15, 2019, 2:35 pm

Dick’s may as well get rid of their fishing, camping and boating stuff as well. I’ve been done with these left-wing smucks.

  • RANDY THOMAS March 15, 2019, 2:28 pm

NOW EVERYONE………….Don’t buy from LEVI STRAUSS. They are going to be more anti gun than Dick’s! They plan to spend millions to support anti gun groups. They just came out this week and said this. Put them out of business and the news may be more worried, as Levi’s are bigger than dick’s.

    • WillyB March 15, 2019, 4:39 pm

FYI, LEVI STRAUSS has been in the liberal left anti-2A camp going back to before the first ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban. I haven’t purchased their jeans in 20 some years!!!

    • Raymond Dale Brooks March 15, 2019, 10:14 pm

LEFT LEVI’S LONG AGO , WENT WITH RANGLER.

    • kane March 17, 2019, 12:24 am

I never liked the way Levi jeans felt so it was no sacrifice when I stopped buying them. I prefer carpenter style slacks anyway. I still have an old Levi jacket that is still holding together.

      • Ronnie Pigg December 27, 2019, 11:57 am

Don’t throw away your jacket, just remove the Levi logo. Most people will never know the difference. But Wrangler makers a better jacket with more pockets, especially on the inside and you can by one on sale for less than $40.00.

  • Peter Brown March 15, 2019, 2:27 pm

So? Though a new pantywaste outlet of their opened in the area I, or no one I know has patronized them.
Dicks……you sure showed the world! LOL!

  • Mike Jaral March 15, 2019, 1:58 pm

Dicks is going by way of K-mart. Won’t be long now. Look for bankruptcy. Good bye Dicks

  • Scott March 15, 2019, 1:42 pm

The first time I’ve ever heard someone OK with and agree to being labeled “toxic”. Stack, you nümbnüt moron, shut your c0ck holster and look up “toxic” in the dictionary; it’s not something you want to be “fine” or “ok” with.

The implication is that toxicity spreads…it oozes forth from your brain dead anti-gun rhetoric, will spread quite deliberately, and eventually contaminate the rest of your business.

If you had just chosen to completely leave the firearm business behind and left your big fat c0ck holster shut, there would have been no bad blood; no harm, no foul…you really would have been “OK” or “fine”.

But no, you had the gall to bite the hand that fed you and turn on long time customers, so reap what you sow…your dicketry will not go unnoticed and will lead to further decline. Relish this moment as this is what the beginning of the end looks like. I hope you’re preparing to disappoint your shareholders at every quarterly meeting from here on out…out of business, that is 😉

    • Pat March 28, 2019, 2:20 pm

Sometimes I think that these anti-gun A-holes are put in charge of a pro-gun business just to make it go under. Think about it….when liberal politicians fail to get their Gun Ban schemes through Congress and the legal system, they figure out a way to infiltrate a company, like Dicks, and slowly and methodically take it down. They sure as hell don’t care about the thousands of employees who face losing their jobs because we all know full well that Liberal pricks don’t really like a “working society”. A “working society” requires less Gov’t. So…they accomplish a couple things by this method, get rid of jobs, get rid of a Pro Gun retailer, and take away one more choice for the Pro Gun consumer to shop at. I think after Trump gets the border wall built he should start building one around the Constitution so these anti-American liberal A-holes can’t go around it any more.

  • OldGuy March 15, 2019, 1:19 pm

In our area Dick’s Sporting Goods has a prime mall location which used to be a Mervyn’s Store. I have to admit their prices are high and it is difficult to find a store clerk for assistance when you need one. I won’t miss a store selling something which is too high priced for me to afford buying anyway. The parking lot always seems full even though the Holiday Season has passed.

I am sorry to see the foaming-at-the-mouth Democrats succeed in demonizing firearms and hunting gear used to kill Bambi or other Disney cartoon characters by their mal-aligned blame campaign. If parents were more responsible in dealing with their children and children were more respectful to their parents then we likely would not be discussing this topic. If mom and dad both work so the family income can increase more and more each year then who supervises the children?
America is much more populated today than it was in the 50s, 60s, and the 70s and kids have really changed and not necessarily for the better. Keeping firearms locked, safely stored and away from children is important as children today have done things with firearms which we never would have dreamed of when I was growing up. When we were kids there was violence on television and in the movies but nothing like the home video games played by kids today. When the program or movie was over it was onto the next one but with violent home video games the kids press reset and compete to outscore each other. Does Hollywood or Silicone Valley share in any responsibility in gun violence?

I think that the folks in Connecticut going after Remington because they own the Bushmaster trade-name are missing the concept. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. In the case of Sandy Hook Elementary a mentally deranged 20 year old Adam Lanza killed everyone including his mom, the people at the school, and then himself. Was this Remington’s fault? Hell no! It was the fault of the mom who allowed her mentally afflicted son total access to the rifle, the magazines, and ammo which should have been safely stored unless they were going hunting, to the range, or cleaning and restoring afterwards. The proper people to sue is case the mom’s estate. But they instead are only searching after deep pockets regardless of true responsibility which has become the new American way and clouded way of thinking.

If gunpowder and alcohol don’t mix, then how do you feel about gunpowder and psycho-active drugs? Perhaps those folks in Connecticut are overlooking the super deep pockets of Big-Pharma.

    • Robert Newhouse March 15, 2019, 8:52 pm

I seem to remember reports that the Sandy Hook shooter USED handguns but left the AR15 in the trunk of his car. If this is true the Connecticut lawsuit is total crap!!

  • Robert Davis March 15, 2019, 1:13 pm

    Buh Bye, and good riddance.

  • Tommy Barrios March 15, 2019, 12:59 pm

AMAZON is Killing all the RETAIL DICK’S like Dick’s Sporting Goods, no need for US to get involved!
    Look for this come true!
Gun Dealers like AGR Outdoors in Cypress, TX are making a killing though!

    • 2012Viking March 17, 2019, 10:12 am

The problem there is that Amazon is becoming more anti-2A every day. Have you noticed a lot of what they used to sell, gun parts, are no longer there.

  • john March 15, 2019, 12:20 pm

I stopped shopping at Dick’s as soon as their gun policy came out.

Best of luck selling hoodies and baggy nylon shorts in your “Sporting Goods” store.

  • Al Richardson March 15, 2019, 12:00 pm

I live near Springfield, Ohio. The 2nd Amendment is alive & well here. There is a Dick’s in Springfield on Bechtel Ave and it was just announced that it will be closing soon. I couldn’t begin to guess how many thousands of consumers shop on Bechtel Ave daily. It is one of the busiest shopping areas in The Miami Valley. The area is always packed and about any retailer you can think of is thriving there. But, Dick’s is closing. I won’t miss it. I’ve never been in it.

  • Z March 15, 2019, 11:56 am

I got few new ad ideas !

    Dick for Dicks
    Only Full Dicks allowed
    Only Red Dicks allowed
    Only Occasional Dicks allowed :^))
A customer can have a dick painted any color he wants as long as it’s red
Bye Bye Dick, Welcome Ejaculatio Praecox
    and more …

  • Ken Jr March 15, 2019, 11:50 am

“People in the gun business are not terribly happy with us,” said Stack. “They said we were toxic, which is fine with us; we’re not going to change the way we’re going.”

You mean going out of business. Bwahahahah!!!

  • Kevin McCarthy March 15, 2019, 11:49 am

Yup. Keep on doing what you are doing. I can’t wait until they are all fry cooks and burger flippers at McDonalds…… staying up at night wondering how it all went so bad, so quickly.

I have never shopped in a Dicks or stepped foot in one. If someone created a “I don’t do Dicks” button, I would gladly wear it.

  • Tommy Barrios March 15, 2019, 11:42 am

The NAME, “DICK’S”, says it all!

    PERIOD!

  • Ron March 15, 2019, 11:13 am

I hope they go out of business. The last several times the wife made me go in to a DICKless store, she was freaked by prices. I told her I would spend a penny in their store! We gladly left empty handed…that’s been over a year ago.

  • Anthony L Revetti March 15, 2019, 10:58 am

Won’t be shopping a Dicks anymore! Plenty of “Good” sporting stores to go! Jackasses!

  • StevO March 15, 2019, 10:54 am

Stopped going there sometime ago.I don’t support any anti-gun business

  • Odiferous Johnson March 15, 2019, 10:45 am

Perhaps Gary should hook up with lorena bobbitt lol heard she’s experienced in removing dicks haha

  • Chris Berg March 15, 2019, 10:41 am

“People in the gun business are not terribly happy with us,” said Stack. “They said we were toxic, which is fine with us; we’re not going to change the way we’re going.”
    Great attitude, Eddie Stack.
You think that because you are a DICK.

  • Chuck March 15, 2019, 10:30 am

Remember the Sport’s Authority? They did the exact same thing, started banning the sale of handguns, then all guns, then ammo. Now they are in the ash heap of failed sporting goods stores, and I hope for the same for Dick’s.

  • Joe Blee March 15, 2019, 10:28 am

Who cares less competition. Now a Real gun store can open up to a nearby dicks and sell …
I have no real reason to shop at dicks anyways…

    • trebor March 15, 2019, 1:06 pm

Most hunters, gun owners also fish. They can clear out the tackle department also. Gives them more room for jockstraps and socks.

  • Earl Haehl March 15, 2019, 10:24 am

I remember applying a Dicks when the photo place at which i worked shut down the store where i worked. The gun section was smaller than WalMart’s. I also applied at Galyan’s. Within the next year, Dick’s acquired Galyan’s following a multi-year campaign. This gave me a bad taste in the mouth for the company. The Parkland Shooting was an event at the same time rather tha a reason for the cutback.

Time will tell whether the company can survive the market. There are other purveyors of sporting goods who have not pissed off major segments of their customer base. There are rumors of Academy locating in my town

    • Joel Martinez March 15, 2019, 11:59 am

Academy is a great store. Really really good store.

  • JungleCogs March 15, 2019, 10:23 am

Oh, Dick’s Sporting Goods is still in business? Who knew? Who cares?

  • LJ March 15, 2019, 10:16 am

There’s nothing like cutting your nose off to spite your face. Good job Dick’s. Stick with doing what you do best, selling sports bras and jock-straps.

It’ll be a cold day in hell before I ever shop there again …

  • Alan S. March 15, 2019, 10:14 am

Oh the hypocrisy… how can Dicks sell baseball bats and golf clubs. Remember Martha Moxley who was killed by Michael Skakel with a six iron. Kelsey Berreth the mom missing in Denver her boyfriend Patrick Frazee is charged with killing her with a baseball bat. Seems if they are truely concerned about public safety they would pull bats and clubs off the shelf. Another idiot at the helm.

    • Zupglick March 15, 2019, 2:57 pm

      Remember Bing Crosby’s wife?

  • Fred Gasparino March 15, 2019, 10:01 am

Never went to Dick’s that often before their stupidity, stopped going altogether now.

While I’d like to predict their demise, they will probably hang around for some time. They are currently profitable.

  • Neal March 15, 2019, 9:55 am

Don’t be a Dick. Go shop & support Bass Pro Shops & Cabelas. They have it right.

    • Frazier March 15, 2019, 11:04 am

If only Bass Pro would have been a bit better to Cabelas “Home Town” in the acquisition…… there is at least one house for sale per block in Sidney, NE….and now they are shutting down the distribution center, so more jobs lost. I am soo glad Sidney bent over backwards for Cabelas, thus saddling the “Permanent” residents with boatloads of project debt of Cabelas wanted improvements, before the AssPro came and killed the town!!!!

    • Patrick Hank March 16, 2019, 3:31 am

Thanks for the list. You should add Wells Fargo and Starbucks

    Dicks are Dicks

  • Russ March 15, 2019, 9:46 am

Dicks just made it all the more easier for more people to never go there. We should be thanking them for alienating so many good paying customers. I hope the company goes under. They will have no one to blame but themselves. You can’t alienate a vast segment of the paying public and not expect a lot of backlash. Went there when they first opened. They were a little pricey but I like to try stuff on before I buy it. They pulled semi autos in a biased way and cow towed to a small segment, we stopped going. Now they will make it easy, no one that hunts or is a supporter of the 2nd amendment should ever go in there. You are not wanted or appreciated as a customer. Hope Dicks crumbles like sports authority.

  • Mark March 15, 2019, 9:37 am

Don’t shop there anyway , don’t really care if they go under or not. Never like the store don’t like their attitude so F them.
It’s your own left wing liberal ideas that will come back to bite you.

  • Davis Gunner March 15, 2019, 9:24 am

Dick’s who? A high priced wannabe store that caters to trendy kids. My company no longer sells to them.

  • RICK March 15, 2019, 9:20 am

Only bats and balls then? Happy to hear Eddie and company will not “change the way we’re going”. Out of business? No serious sportsman will ever shop at Dick’s again.

    • Old Sailor March 15, 2019, 9:33 am

Maybe he should study Sports Authority. The just sold bats and balls and other non-hunting related sporting goods. They can be found in the yellow pages under “No Longer in Business”.

  • History March 15, 2019, 9:20 am

Dicks, I’m glad you’ve decided to go the route of the old TG&Y.

  • Duane Jacques March 15, 2019, 9:17 am

Dick’s sporting goods… they are already being forgotten

  • JohnL March 15, 2019, 9:10 am

I was going to go and look around for sporting goods not firearms. Now they’ve lost me as a consumer. I simply don t want politics everywhere I go. As soon as I see it bye bye. I m toooooo educated to allow someone with less education to force they re warped lack of sense on me. I look everything up from a numbers perspective. Parkland happened because it was ok for progressives to allow a troubled boy who called out for help over 40x and none of them wanted to help him by getting the proper authorities involved, period.

  • Brian Hoffman March 15, 2019, 9:09 am

Dicks is done. Nothing like making a series of bad choices and driving your own company into the ground. I predict Dicks is out-of-business in less than 5-years. We American outdoorsmen don’t forget who stab us in the chest.

  • DeCarlo March 15, 2019, 9:09 am

I do wish them negative thoughts and a bankruptcy, as I will not support anti 2nd businesses. Dicks just slowing bleeding themselves out of business

  • KimberproSS March 15, 2019, 9:08 am

Regardless of their product, their prices were unappealing. If they had impeccable customer service a consumer might be willing to do business there, but that was unappealing as well. I’m glad they pulled the firearms and hunting equipment, all potential interest to enter the store is now gone.

  • Doug Aller March 15, 2019, 8:56 am

There is no reason to buy anything from Dick’s over price on most everything! The sooner they are out of business the better. I tried of liberals forcing their attack on the 2nd amendment.

  • Gary Hull March 15, 2019, 8:50 am

It doesn’t bother me they are pulling guns, etc. If I am a dealer or manufacturer I’m not taking the guns back. Why should I they have decided not to do business with me. So what are they going to do with the guns? Sell them to other distributors, sell them to the black market, sell them to third world countries or destroy them? I believe concerned citizens should know what their plans are. Gary

  • NICK CAPRON March 15, 2019, 8:49 am

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER THING FROM THEM, JUST DELETED THEM FROM E-MAIL LIST!!! HOPEFULLY THEY WILL FAIL AND DROWNED AWAY, WITH THE WHOLE DEMOCRATIC PARTY !!! MOLON LABE

  • Arnold Tobias March 15, 2019, 8:49 am

When will the board of directors see the numbers and dump Stock?

  • Mike March 15, 2019, 8:47 am

Demise of Dick’s. What they miss is that fishermen, runners, golfers, baseball/softball players, campers, etc, are also gun enthusiasts. Their stance on guns will profoundly and adversely affect their sales in every aspect of their business. Big mistake Dick’s. Bye Bye.

  • robert davis March 15, 2019, 8:44 am

Dito for me, I never buy from these companies again. They have no business being political activitist. But if they chooce so, then its only natural they pay the price that goes with it.

  • David Berry March 15, 2019, 8:44 am

I never frequented Dick’s much for anything, anyway, their prices were very high compared to others with the same products. Their employees did not know anything about the products in the hunting section. and with their anti gun attitude, I have no reason to go into any of their stores at all..

  • charles hutson March 15, 2019, 8:44 am

What a bunch of Dick’s…..We should make T shirts

  • David G. Leli March 15, 2019, 8:39 am

Dick’s? Remember Smith & Wesson, when their corporate gurus’ decided to go gun control and be the “example”. They went belly up and was bought and sold for $15 million dollars. The new owners saw through the malarkey and rebounded. Dick’s will not, and should never be allowed to. The first time I believe was after Aurora, CO. Now MSD last year, Dick’s and all its corporate related stores should be dead and buried by 2020.

    Thank you

  • Freedom March 15, 2019, 8:16 am

They built a beautiful Field and Stream near my home, but, since they’re part of Dick’s, I find it very distasteful to go there. I wish they would spin off F&S, because i’d Like to spend time there.

  • stuntdeacons March 15, 2019, 8:10 am

dicks and field & stream owned by the same company.
Dicks says no more guns while field & stream continues.
Here you have a typical move just like the politicians.
Dicks trying to make libs happy, while their counter part still makes money off the sale of guns.
What I’m sick of is the over-political theater we have to witness everyday by companies and media that need to stay out of politics. Grow your business and sell your crap and quit trying to push an agenda. We have to many worthless politicians already. we dont need more. As far as the media: just report on helpful things that make peoples life better, not shove agenda and fear factors in peoples faces each day. Leave the political bull crap to the politicians who already are lost in their own world of lies and power.

  • Greg Morehead March 15, 2019, 8:07 am

The part of the story that was not mentioned is the fact that Dick’s and Field & Stream are under the same company umbrella. How hypocritical is it that one arm of their company is anti-gun and the other sells every segment of the guns & ammo market? The story said Dick’s destroyed firearms. Can that be confirmed? I bet you a dollar the inventory was simply moved to their sister company. I bought a DPMS AR-15 at Field & Stream after the Sandy Hook massacre and the sales associate said the mark-down deal was due to stock that had just been transferred to their store. Hmmm.

I agree with other posters on this thread…. I will not shop at Dick’s or Field & Stream when I have Cabelas, Bass Pro, and local gun stores that support the 2A.

    MAGA!

Thanks John–I totally agree. 17 year Navy Vet and this garbage is not why I served. Dick’s can disappear off the face of the earth as far as I’m concerned!

    • Freedom March 15, 2019, 8:18 am

It’s a shame they get political because some, like Levi’s, have good products. ****** liberals ruin everything.

    • Old Sailor March 15, 2019, 9:31 am

Levis haven’t been made in America in decades. More overpriced junk from Asia. I haven’t bought a pair of their jeans in many years and never will.

  • don March 15, 2019, 7:57 am

“When it comes to the gun community, you are either with us or you are against us. There can be no middle ground. ”

The drop in sales shows he is right. Dick’s is either pro civil rights or they are not. They seem to like their stance and will continue to go bankrupt.

  • Cody March 15, 2019, 7:54 am

Even if they make a desperate attempt to boost sales by bringing guns back in the near future, I’d rather watch the stock go to waste as overhead expense and watch them fall even hared on their self righteous asses.

Here’s a common sense gun law for you Dick’s – Don’t side with anti gunners when you sell guns.

  • Richard Fox March 15, 2019, 7:48 am

Shame on me for using Dicks to outfit my kids for schools sports x3 seasons. We began using more local stores a couple years ago, and really the better quality is worth the extra time and the couple dollars more, here and there. In reality the local shops do have competitive prices “in spite” of their better/similar quality. Two kids – soccer/football; hockey/skiing; track/lacrosse. I hope it helps sink the Dicks.

  • Ronald March 15, 2019, 7:33 am

Hope they go out of business completely !!!

  • Poggy March 15, 2019, 7:32 am

The CEO at Dick’s is hoping people will forget and business will return.
Picket this business, do like the anti’s do, be visible.

  • Mike March 15, 2019, 7:31 am

This comes to me as no surprise. About 25 years or so ago, my buddy and I went to Dick’s and purchased a pair of 1187’s. We knew the salesperson, so he brought out about a half dozen 1187’s so we could choose our grain patterns. In our conversation, he had mentioned that Dicks would rather not sell guns period. (I also had bought a Gold Cup prior there). Looks like he was right all those years ago.

Dicks has always been expensive in just about everything. Bottom line, I haven’t been to Dicks in years, and will continue that trend. Dicks will survive without my patronage , as I will without them. I think we will eventually see more retail outlets doing the same as our demographics change toward anti 2A.

    • Brian Hoffman March 15, 2019, 9:18 am

I don’t think more retailers will go this direction, once they watch a few (previously) solid and profitable companies go bankrupt. Stop shopping at Dicks altogether, put them out-of-business and watch guns regain retail dominance again. Simple business Capitalism.

      • Mike March 15, 2019, 11:56 am

Brian, I hope you are correct, but in reading a newer post, and not to sound negative, there are too many retail outlets already joining in . Levi jeans among others. I won’t even mention Hollywood actors etc, but that is another topic , even though they “act” for employment and are far removed from the real world.

You are correct, I like many have stopped buying at Dicks and many others. I just wish we could go back to “the old days” when firearms weren’t evil.

It will be interesting where they will land as in my area, not only was it the “birthplace” of Dicks, but they also opened up a huge distribution center. Back in the “day”, well never mind…………..

        • Gene S. March 15, 2019, 3:14 pm

Mike, Guns are not evil, people are.

          • Mike March 15, 2019, 7:22 pm

Gene, I agree 100%. I suppose anyone with common sense can see that.

How do we convince liberals of that? We can’t . It’s becoming politically correct to be anti-2A it seems

  • Poggy March 15, 2019, 7:28 am

and I am pulling my business from DICK;S.

  • Dave March 15, 2019, 7:07 am

Haven’t you learned a lesson from past companies?? Sports Athority sold only batting cages and ski equipment and look at them now… yeap out of business this CEO is a idiot and running what was a great business model right in the toilet…

  • David Allocco March 15, 2019, 7:02 am

I can’t believe how ignorant the public is on guns. Guns never killed anyone psychotic people are the ones that killed. The sales are down not from guns but the Internet sales, it kills businesses all over the world. When are we going to learn bring back stores with a 15% savings to purchase inhouse, and charge more for buying on the Internet not less. Conclusion to Dicks Stores, I loved going to Dicks I won’t buy from such an ignorant company anymore.

  • Harold March 15, 2019, 7:00 am

I will not spend a cent at a store or business that doen’t honor THE 2ND ADMENDMENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Robert Wilson March 15, 2019, 6:58 am

Its only a matter of time and they will close completly. I shop at Dunhams which is down the street from dickheads or online or my small gun shop. Support local businesses. May pay a tad more but they know your name when you walk in the door. Same goes for Levi’s. I wear WRANGLER’s.

  • Al M. March 15, 2019, 6:58 am

I will not buy anything from Dick’s again unless it is at a going-out-of-business sale.

  • Ronnie March 15, 2019, 6:56 am

Wonder what you call the Head person of Dicks? Come on people. That’s simple. D___ H__d.
To all you people who are passionate about your guns, “Never Give Up” Take that money you were going to spend at Dicks and donate to the NRA. Without them we are sunk.

  • TRLWGN1 March 15, 2019, 6:53 am

Keep in mind that Field & Stream are the same company. I’m sure they aren’t planning to pull guns from those stores.

Have to boycott both to be effective.

  • Fred Bauer March 15, 2019, 6:53 am

This whole announcement by Edward Stack of Dicks seems like smoke and mirrors to me being as Dicks owns Field and Stream which sells lots of guns and gun products. Looks to me like he just redirected his income stream. Oh by the way, Dicks also owns Golf Galaxy.

  • Joseph J.Ludwig March 15, 2019, 6:49 am

That’s fine for the management at Dick’s to say they don’t care about gun owners, hunters! However, they better know what they’re doing when they choose there store locations. there are millions and millions of people not happy with Dick’s decision, People are what keeps the doors open!!!! Think about that!!!!

  • Sean Carberry March 15, 2019, 6:47 am

😂Dicks sucks. I gave up on that store after they announced they will no longer sell ar type rifles and they started with their anti gun policies. Before that I had bought a gun there and some outdoor equipment…a few thousand dollars worth of stuff. That’s the last of my money they will ever see. Boycott yeti brand as well.

  • D A March 15, 2019, 6:44 am

I find it astonishing yet not surprising to read of a chief executive officer lacking the fundamental common sense & intelligence while exhibiting ignorance & cowardice regarding this decision.

  • JD March 15, 2019, 6:41 am

More business for the ma & pa stores that are disappearing from the landscape of our Country, as these big box stores open up all over. Too many of them wind up going out of business anyhow and leave the town with big empty buildings.

  • Anthony March 15, 2019, 6:16 am

I think if they fired stack because he’s an idiot their sales might go back up I haven’t bought nothing from them since they change their policies and never will they can go bankrupt for all I care

  • Ron March 15, 2019, 6:10 am

My family has been a customer for many years of Dick’s. They do not allow dogs in the Norwalk store. Amazing they are the only outdoor store to ban dogs and now guns. We will no longer support them as there are other outdoor stores supportive to dogs and legal gun sales. My family spends a considerable amount every year on outdoor merchandise including fishing. We are fortunate to have alternatives to Dicks that support the shooting, fishing and canine needs!

  • Jeff Miller March 15, 2019, 6:06 am

I was getting ready to buy new baseball equipment for our little league teams. We had a local discussion about purchasing budget, when and where. 14 people involved in the discussion and after a unanimous decision we agreed to not buy anything from Dick’s sporting goods. We felt any retail establishment that takes a political position against our country’s Constitution is not deserving of our hard earned money. This is to be a learning experience for our youth wich helps mold them into the bright deserving young Americans they are soon to become.
FYI / 5 of the 14 are anti gun.

    • Brian Hoffman March 15, 2019, 9:23 am

Totally love how you handled that buying, and learning, opportunity.

  • Darrell E Roy March 15, 2019, 5:57 am

I quite going to dicks when they took the ar rifles out of the stores ans sold my stocks because spent my time in the military and i neaver seen a rifle pull the trigger its stupid people that pull triggers .
Myself and alot of people i know wont walk into amother dicks ever .

  • scott beverly March 15, 2019, 5:46 am

Use to buy stuff from DIcks until they lived up to their name. Don’t go by there any more or visit their web site. Buy our shoes and sporting gear from other place. By the way, thanks for getting rid of the social media banners so we can read the stories.

  • Bill S March 15, 2019, 5:37 am

So a “Sporting Goods” store that does not sell firearms or hunting gear?

As a sportsman who participates in numerous outdoor activities they will never see another dime from me.

Hiring lobbyists to work against the LEGAL activities that we enjoy should immediately result in EVERYONE who hunts, target shoots or owns a firearm for self defense shopping elsewhere.

Why would we fund the fight against us?

I hope the next announcement is that they are closing 125 stores.

  • Dr Motown March 15, 2019, 5:36 am

Look for the fire sales, like Gander had to do

    • Brian Onuscheck March 15, 2019, 9:15 am

Good point! I was back home at my dads house near Pittsburgh a few years ago and the local Kmart was going out of business. The company that was liquidating them also brought in the left over inventory from several Dicks in the surrounding area that had recently closed.
I ended up buying 4 St. Croix rods, 2 Ugly Stick big water surf rods, 2 shimmano spinng reels, and over 100 lures all for about $200. Easily the best money I’d spent in my life.

  • Fisher Finley March 15, 2019, 5:30 am

If Dick’s really cared about the loss of human life and not P.R. B.S. then they should also remove all blunt objects as well. You know like golf clubs, hockey sticks and baseball bats. According to F.B.I statistics way more Americans are killed each year with such devices than all rifles put together. But why stop there, no more tent stakes either, and……. What do you expect seeing there just a bunch of Dick’s!

  • Danny March 15, 2019, 5:14 am

Yeah Yeah, Stack will be singing his bird song right up until he gets his ass fired..what a clown.

  • Tim March 15, 2019, 4:53 am

Dick’s started as a army Navy surplus store. Firearms got them to where they are today. It’s a shame the stance they decided to take. I’m sure most are already aware just in case some may not be Dick’s also owns Field and Stream stores. Don’t shop their either. There’s no since giving them you money just so they can use it against you.

  • Darrel Rawls March 15, 2019, 4:10 am

Dicks CEO’s are doing what they do, BEING “DICKS”!!! I can only hope that no more businesses in this country resort to such idiotic, anti 2nd Amendment, garbage! This country’s 2nd Amendment rights are being attacked in ways that EVERY SUPPORTER of these rights better take notice and stand watch NOW!! Standing by ,letting anything happen, is not having ANY spine ! Please, support our 2nd amendment in any possible way, TODAY! Thank you.

  • Greg Blesch March 15, 2019, 3:54 am

Guns are responsible for killing people just like spoons are responsible for making Americans fat. We need to have spoon permits for everyone over the age of 6 years old to keep them from getting heart disease diabetes and a whole other host of much more dangerous things than a pistol that can’t do anything on its own.

    • Brian Hoffman March 15, 2019, 9:14 am

Dicks is done. Nothing like making a series of bad choices and driving your own company into the ground. I predict Dicks is out-of-business in less than 5-years. We American outdoorsmen don’t forget who stab us in the chest.

  • Greg Blesch March 15, 2019, 3:48 am

Dick’s DEPLORABLES…How that makes me feel so special😨😡 !! I really love I really love Dick’s store a lot. They had so many useful things for an outdoor person like me as well as good clothing. But they just couldn’t resist jumping on the SJW three wheeled bandwagon to be politically correct. It looks like the commercial retail industry is going to have to find another way to make stores great again.

  • Greg March 15, 2019, 3:15 am

It’s their business. They have the right to sell what they want. You have the right to shop elsewhere. Take your ” either you’re with us or against us” BS down the road. I am a gunowner, but this is their decision. I respect it, you should too.

  • The Original Brad March 15, 2019, 2:58 am

Another “Get woke, go broke.” story.

  • Stanley Beneteau March 13, 2019, 1:41 pm

Dicks lost our business when they first started this funny’ business

  • Trenace March 13, 2019, 11:25 am

Perhaps they don’t understand they’re not losing just gun sales from us, they’re losing all our sales, and gun owners are a huge percentage of the population.

Only a few days ago my wife and I would have gone into a Dick’s for a sporting goods item and most definitely chose not to. I’m sure very many will do the same, for years to come. We need to keep awareness up on this one so other businesses will think more than twice about doing as Dick’s has done.

    • Mike C. March 15, 2019, 6:55 am

Agreed. When I get flyers from either Dicks or Field & Stream, they go directly into the trash. They don’t sell anything that I can’t get elsewhere.

  • Mike V March 13, 2019, 6:01 am

    More suburbanite weenies, how cute.

    • Daniel Slocum March 15, 2019, 5:20 am

      Meaning exactly…what?!

      • Mike V March 15, 2019, 10:26 am

Meaning they chose to fill their stores with shoppers who fill their carts with yoga pants and have an allergic reaction to guns. Suburbanite weenies.

    • Bob Pfaff March 15, 2019, 6:59 am

And if you are a golfer, Dicks owns Golf Galaxy, fyi.

      • joefoam March 15, 2019, 8:12 am

I stopped shopping there as well. Hope the idiot ant-gun crowd enjoys shopping for nerf balls at Dicks. At this rate that will be all that qualifies for ‘sporting’ goods in their stores. Good to see that pro gun people can have an effect if we stick together. Hope this CEO has fun explaining his loss of revenue and stock drop to the shareholders.

    • Texas Twostep March 15, 2019, 8:55 am

So, are you saying everyone who lives in a suburb is a “weenie” responsible for Dicks decision? Because, living in a suburb of Dallas, TX, I can assure you there are plenty of outdoorsman and avid gun owners here.

This is coming from someone who lives in a major metro area but grew up in town of 600 people in the middle of midwest corn fields, 15 miles from the closest gas station.

      • Mike V March 15, 2019, 10:29 am
