Disarm Hate Act Introduced: Would Permanently Revoke 2A Rights for Misdemeanor Hate Crimes

Two Democratic legislators introduced the “Disarm Hate Act” this week, which calls for the permanent revocation of 2A rights for any misdemeanor offense deemed to be a hate crime.

The bill was brought to both chambers, via Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) in the House and Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) in the Senate.

Sponsors believe the bill closes the “Hate Crimes Loophole” by banning the sale and possession of firearms for anyone convicted of committing a crime on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.

“Over and over again we have seen what happens when a convicted white supremacist, white nationalist, or neo-Nazi is able to purchase a gun,” said Cicilline, who serves as Vice Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, in a statement obtained by GunsAmerica.

“This bill closes the Hate Crimes Loophole and makes it much harder for someone to give voice to their hatred in a volley of gunfire. It’s just common sense. If you’ve been convicted of a hate crime, you don’t get to buy a gun. Full stop,” he added.

John Feinblatt, the president of Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety, cheered the measure.

“When hate comes armed, it can be deadly,” said Feinblatt. “But right now, there is no federal law that prevents people convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes from owning or buying guns — a situation that defies both common sense and common decency.”

“We applaud Rep. Cicilline and Sen. Casey for honoring the victims of shootings at the Chabad of Poway, Tree of Life Synagogue and thousands of other preventable tragedies for introducing legislation to disarm hate,” he added.

While the Left would have you believe that hate crimes are skyrocketing in the age of Trump, the data paints a different picture.  An analysis by the Bureau of Justice Statistics suggests that while reported hate crimes have increased in recent years, the number of unreported hate crimes have dropped over the same period.

Meanwhile, the overall total of both unreported and reported hate crime victimizations has remained somewhat steady over the past three years but down significantly since 2014 and the previous years when Obama was in office.

Alan Gottlieb, the founder of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, raised an interesting point about the difficulty of defining a misdemeanor hate crime and the potential for anti-gunners to use this legislation to target law-abiding gun owners.

“The devil is in the details,” Gottlieb told GunsAmerica in an email. “Who defines what a misdemeanor hate crime is? Is protesting and calling an anti-gun politician an ugly name a hate crime?”

“I have no doubt that this will get out of hand and only disenfranchise legitimate firearms ownership,” he continued, adding “Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) who is the sponsor of this legislation has a track record of demonizing guns and gun owners.”

We’ll keep an eye on the Disarm Hate Act as it works its way through Congress.  Stay tuned for updates.

What crime isn’t a hate crime? Crappy people do crappy things. Giving people of another color more rights than another is racist. The whole idea of hate crimes is a hypocrisy. If a white person attacks a person of a different color and it is consider a hate crime they get more jail time. That itself is racist as it is vice versa.

  • Roscoe May 22, 2019, 5:18 pm

The vast, overwhelming majority of interracial crime is committed by blacks against whites, yet here we are introducing bills to disarm whites. Really makes you think.

  • Scott Free May 21, 2019, 8:12 pm

“Over and over again we have seen what happens when a convicted white supremacist, white nationalist, or neo-Nazi is able to purchase a gun,”

Did anyone notice they are blaming whites for this nonsense? So I guess black folks can’t be racists? Also Caucasians are the only race that are not allowed to show any pride in their species….This piece of garbage legislation needs to die on the floor of congress.

  • marv May 21, 2019, 5:34 pm

How many of the “Gun Haters” are willing to personally/physically be the ones to go into a house and confiscate the firearms themselves??

    • DENNIS May 23, 2019, 3:07 pm

      It will be the military

  • William Dohrmann May 21, 2019, 3:59 pm

Wonder how they know how many u reported hate crimes there are if they are unreported

  • Quod Vox May 21, 2019, 7:14 am

I’m curious how this is news, because the two bills allegedly introduced do not have their House and Senate numbers published in the article, and any reference to “Disarm Hate” only comes up with two hits. Both are from the 115th session of Congress.

The currently sitting Congress is the 116th session.

Those two bills were introduced in 2017 and died in committee.
If you doubt me, look here:

Next they will make ‘hate speech’ a misdemeanor – ‘hate speech’ being anything you say.

It will be abused, because it is intended to be abused. Nothing these people do is in good faith. They are treasonous subversives.

  • 191145 May 19, 2019, 9:44 am

” hate crime loophole ” Now if this bill passes, it WILL be abused like the domestic violence law is being abused with false claims that can’t defended against in court without a viable witness . Guilty until proven innocent ! This bill is designed to disarm as many people as possible by classifying all battery charges as ” hate crimes ” .

And we all know just how easily the snowflakes are offended…
Unless they’re wearing a black outfit and a mask, then they suddenly become super soldiers, attacking Andy Nog, little old ladies just trying to cross the street, people with their head turned (sucker punch) and hurling projectiles at police and police horses. Yet for some reason no one ever calls them out as terrorists or speakers of “hate speech”. Those same snowflakes cry out for animal rights yet hit police horses with projectiles. Soooo… anyone see a pattern of a double standard here???

      • Me October 21, 2019, 9:32 am

        * autocorrect has done it again. Andy NGO.

  • Wayne May 19, 2019, 7:22 am

” But right now there is no federal law preventing people who have been convicted of committing a misdameanor hate crime from buying or possessing a firearm”, Like one more federal law is going to fix the problem. 22,000 gun laws on the books now, murder is already against the law. If you could actually stop hate by outlawing it we shouldn’t still have this problem. Insanity is someone doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different outcome, these people are insane thinking one more gun law will change anything. If someone hates somebody and has evil intent, denying them a gun is not going to stop them, just ask the Mayor of London.

  • Biff Baxter May 19, 2019, 12:37 am

Those Neo-Nazis are everywhere. I hit two of them with my car the other night, they were playing hopscotch out in the highway. You can’t throw a brick into the woods without hitting one of them. A perfectly good reason to take away our 1,200 year old right to bear arms as freemen, certainly.

  • Brian Hart May 18, 2019, 8:02 pm

will speech that hurts someone’s feelings be considered a hate crime? if i say something that you don’t agree with, will I be charged with a hate crime?
if I physically attack someone, that’s one thing; but if I offend them because of something I said that’s not really in the same league.
don’t make exercising your 1st Amendment rights cause you to lose your 2nd Amendment rights.

  • Billy May 17, 2019, 10:21 pm

As someone whose opinion on the second amendment most closely aligns with the late great Antonin Scalia I am appaled by the opposition to this.

Those convicted of hate crimes should not have access to weapons. In those hands they become tools of oppression and not a means of securing freedom.

How do I completely delete my accpunt from this shit show of a site? I’ve spent all day getting locked out for searching too much trying to figure it out and you don’t even have an email listed for contact.

    • Patrick May 18, 2019, 5:41 pm

No one here wants true haters to be armed. The problem is those labeling anyone they do not agree with as “haters” and using dissent as an excuse to persecute. This ATB a law for haters by haters.

      • Marc Pugner May 20, 2019, 11:08 pm

This is and all “hate” legislation is just another in a long line of anti-white legislation. The only people who can be guilty of “hate” are whites and only whites. Meanwhile anyone not insufficiently penatant about their whiteness and don’t genuflect to minorities or other oppressed overlords (see the Covington boys) are hounded by the media, antifa, and sadly even clueless cucked conservatives. This will assure when harassment and attacks of whites happens, they will have no means of defense

    • zac@ksbroadband.net May 18, 2019, 6:47 pm

Nice try, but at best your a FUDD at worst another commentor shill for the democrats.

This bill is just another tool that can be used however the political elite want since “hate crime” can mean just about anything they want and almost never punish anyone but white people with them no matter how ungodly the crimes committed by minorities.

    • Kroglikepie May 19, 2019, 2:23 am

So, being convicted of an ever-growing list of infractions with an ever-lowering threshold is perfectly fine and will *never* be abused right?

Do you also crave the taste of boot leather?

    • Wayne May 19, 2019, 7:36 am

Surely you are not suggesting that the late strict constitutionalist Judge Scalia would approve of this? If you are then you are the only person on this stream who believes it, and you need to go troll somewhere else. Let me guess, you probably think this is hate speech.

  • Michael Christopher Scott May 17, 2019, 9:08 pm

It is very easy to make a gun. I made a .50″ caliber pistol when I was 15, and then produced another pistol in 12-gauge caliber. My mother found my guns under my bed, and completely freaked out. That was the worst scolding I ever got, and she called up dad, who said “These are murdering guns.”

Since he used to beat mom up, I explained who they were intended for.

You could have heard a pin drop after that. He got up and left right away. Mom let me keep them.

  • Philip Van Cleave May 17, 2019, 6:50 pm

Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) in the House and Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) are both haters – they hate gun owners. Perhaps no haters should be allowed to hold office.

  • Methadras May 17, 2019, 6:13 pm

You guys see what’s happening here right? It’s the politics of lowering the criminality of removing 2A rights. It used to be a felony would remove 2A rights. Now it’s a trial balloon to propose that a misdemeanor should remove 2A rights. After that is passed, it will be lowered to traffic violations.

  • Chad May 17, 2019, 5:01 pm

By today’s standards anything you say can be considered hate speech as long as someone doesn’t like so this is just one more POS piece of legislation that does and says nothing

  • Sepp W May 17, 2019, 4:14 pm

White supremacist, white nationalist, or neo-Nazi? They conveniently forgot: Workers World Party, Color of Change, Onward Together, Indivisible, MoveOn.org, Antifa, By Any Means Necessary, UltraViolet, Industrial Workers of the World, Organizing for Action, Black Lives Matter, and the list goes on

  • WILLIAM BOLTON May 17, 2019, 2:54 pm

Laws designed to make criminals of people by hacking into their computers, phones and who knows what else as time goes on! Like one nation there was that murdered anyone that disagreed with the socialist leadership. Coming to America soon. Socialism is MURDERERS in charge of everything and be careful how you answer one of their judges. DEATH! DEATH DEATH DEATH!!!!!!! only decision they will have available.

  • Dr Motown May 17, 2019, 1:19 pm

So are we going to have an unelected \”national hate crime commission\” like they do in Canada? Revoke rights like they tried to do to Mark Steyn? Just imagine the folks who would be stuffed on that commission by the next Dummycrat President

  • ditpook May 17, 2019, 1:07 pm

Lets clear the air. They like to murder kids thru abortion but they don’t want us to have guns. “My Body My Choice” is the excuse. Lets turn this around. All of the recorded hate crimes and violence you have seen since President Trump has taken office was from the left. So if you want to restrict guns, deny them to anyone that voted Democrat. That would truly keep guns out of the hands of people who feel instead of think and whose answer to disagreement is violence.

    • GOA Patriot May 17, 2019, 5:15 pm

The answer to mass shootings is to ban liberal DemonicRats from owning guns!?!?

  • JOHN MARSHALL May 17, 2019, 11:42 am

WHAT ABOUT DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSWOMEN OMAR AND TLAIB – OH RIGHT, I FORGOT, THEIR COMMENTS ABOUT THE JEWISH RACE DOESN’T COUNT AS THEY ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM BUT ARE A[[ARENTLY ABOVE REPROACH BECAUSE OF THEIR STATUS IN THE GOVERNMENT.

  • Mike Watkins May 17, 2019, 10:53 am

Under a law like this, the banners would redefine “hate crimes” to cover anything and everything.

You: “Hmm. Looks like it’s going to rain.”

Gun banner: “Hate speech! I’ve had my rights trampled! I don’t feel safe!”

Judge: “NO guns for you, filthy hater!”

  • Alan Robinson May 17, 2019, 9:11 am

“Hate ” crimes are themselves an affront to the Constitution, plain and simple. Like it or not, we ALL have the Natural right to hate, and acting on ANY emotional that does damage to another or another’s rights is Unlawful anyway, so why introduce the Orwellian aspect of defining it?
    To control others, that’s why.

  • Larry a Taylor May 17, 2019, 8:56 am

If i am in a movie theater and yell fire do i loose.my first ammendment rights? Just curious.

  • rsmalt May 17, 2019, 8:02 am

Ah, yes! Yet another “common sense” gun law to add to the books!

So, what misdemeanor is next on the ever-growing list of reasons to destroy the 2nd amendment? Petty theft? Trespassing? Vandalism?

  • BR549 May 17, 2019, 7:45 am

So, if 2A supporters would no longer be able to have firearms if involved in a hate crime, does that mean that those adolescent Antifa idiots can’t cover their faces during the commission of their crimes or be found in possession of bike locks or baseball bats? If anti-Constitutional legislators can’t be trusted to support the 2nd Amendment, maybe they shouldn’t be allowed to adversely effect the population with their subversive rhetoric.

What an asinine bill. It’s only aimed at gun owners. Cicillini is just looking for political mileage; after all, he obviously did;t do much how, work when he supported Hillary and Obama. He should be more interested in cleaning up his own family’s corrupt connections to the Rhode Island mafia “family.”

Those who live in glass houses, …….. as the saying goes.

  • Phil May 17, 2019, 7:36 am

Doesn’t the 14th Amendment say we are all equal? Politicians keep making laws complicated, and for a reason. Throw the bums out!

  • Deez May 17, 2019, 7:00 am

Voting R might be considered a crime

  • Jesse H Scott III May 17, 2019, 5:44 am

Step 2: define flatulence as a hate crime.

  • Rich May 17, 2019, 4:31 am

Bet they won’t call a bunch of gangsta thugs attacking a white guy a “hate crime” under any circumstances. Or atheists or Muslims attacking Christians. Because only straight, white, Christian conservatives (mainly males) are ever guilty of “hate crimes”, according to the totalitarians on the left.

    • Ruff rider May 17, 2019, 10:24 am

But what if the gangsta thugs are white?

    • Jim May 17, 2019, 10:35 am

Atheists don’t typically attack Christians. Historically, it’s been the other way round. Atheists generally don’t care about Christians at all until Christians try to impose aspects of their belief system into state and federal governments. That that whole separation of church and state thing.

Muslims now, that’s a different matter entirely. Anyone who has studied Islam in any depth and understands the Quran, and Haddiths; as well as the Tafsirs (exegeses of Islamic scholars) will attest that it is a horribly oppressive religion, and absolutely intolerant of non-Muslims.

      • John May 17, 2019, 5:23 pm

Umm, you ever heard of the atheist Stalin? 20 million murders, many simply for being Christian. How about the atheist Mao Tse Tung and the anti-Christian campaigns of the 50’s? 40-80 million dead, many just for being Christian. Historically you are wrong. Christians don’t typically attack atheists. And the separation of church and state was to protect against bias regarding a particular religion as had occurred in England, not to keep God out of gov’t. They were quite clear on that–better refresh your history lessons.

        • Chris May 19, 2019, 9:09 am

Wrong the seperation was to prevent the churches influence on the state and the state on the church. And most cases, christians are the provocatures of violence and hate. Hell they at one time wentvall over the middle east slaughtering anyone not christian or willing to convert, the spanish inquisition…..another act of violence against non believers, the fire bombings and attacts on abortion clinics, hate on gays……the list goes on. Oh and did you forget about hitler and the millions he killed. Athiest will talk shit, expose the inaccuracies and lies of christianity but care enough to commit violent acts on christians is not one. Just because stalin was an atheist doesnt mean his violence toward anyone who was christian had anything to do with religion. You forget almost all the most violent, hanious, and major acts, have been a result of religion mostly christian, and or the christian/islamic conflict, abolish all religion.
Religion in any form was only created as a way for leaders of civilizations to explain why things happened and ease the minds of confused people, in a time where science and an understanding of how the world and the universe worked. Now it destroys nations, it devides our country on hot button issues thats only basis is in wether religion supports it or not. Get with reality.

        • Jim May 24, 2019, 1:14 pm

Better refresh yours. you’re conflating lack of religious beliefs with political ideology. Communist leaders typically suppressed ANY religion, as it was a threat to their authority. That had nothing to do with being an Atheist. HISTORICALLY, Christians have tortured/killed/ostracized unbelievers/heretics, not the other way round. Especially considering until recently the numbers were overwhelmingly on the side of the Christians.

And as far as not keeping God out of government, they were absolutely NOT clear on that. Many of the founding fathers were, if not true Atheists, certainly Christian skeptics, with little tolerance for the supernatural nonsense in the bible (John Adams, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and James Monroe come to mind to name a few). So for you to say they didn’t recognize the harm that allowing religious beliefs (anyone’s) into our Government could cause, is a little naive. The Supreme Court agrees, as they have decided in multiple cases that there is absolutely a wall between the two. I don’t want your religious beliefs forced on me, anymore than you want a Muslim’s forced on you.

  • Zupglick May 17, 2019, 4:14 am

  • Junkmansj May 17, 2019, 3:08 am

Did he miss any Lib Titles “Over and over again we have seen what happens when a convicted white supremacist, white nationalist, or neo-Nazi is able to purchase a gun,”

Purple haired guy last week WAS A Trump hating Liberal Democrat I believe. Also 90% or more of the “MASS SHOOTERS” Have been DEMODRATS, I do not think they fit in his Disscription!

    • maxsnafu May 17, 2019, 7:36 am

      The truth is no defense.

    • Ruff rider May 17, 2019, 10:28 am

Majority of mass shootings are committed by trump supporters. Fact

      • Elapid King May 17, 2019, 11:40 pm

        Really now?
        *Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.
Both grew up in Democrat households in a very leftist Colorado suburb.
*Nidal Hasan, Jihadi Muslim, unlikely a Trump supporter.
*James Holmes, Volunteer on the Obama campaign, pretty sure Trump supporters don’t volunteer for
        Democratic campaigns.
*Adam Lanza, his mother was hardcore leftist Democrat, he even wrote hate mail to GW Bush, and even
though many Republicans weren’t thrilled with GW, we hardly saw fit to pen hate mail.
*Seung-Hui Cho, made clear his hatred of republicans. Also, being Korean, is statistically highly unlikely to
        be a Trump supporter regardless.
*Nasim Najafi, Vegan and “animal rights” radical.
again, hardly the type to be a “Trump supporter”
*Devon Ericson and Alec McKinney, both LGBTQ activists.
Again, hardly the type one would find at Trump rallies.
The only one I can think of off the top of my hat that I will cede to you would be Dylann Roof.
But hey, at least your batting 1 in 7.
        Keep up the good work!

  • SuperG May 16, 2019, 10:26 am

What I said before is starting to come true. They will not come for your guns head on, but just increase the crimes that cause you to lose your gun rights. That is a scary sentence I just wrote, as when the government allows itself to take away one of your rights, others will soon follow. Our corporate elected representatives in Congress see no problem with that, as their controlling corporations see no problem with it. They have their millions and private armed security guards, but you do not.

    • Mike May 17, 2019, 7:01 am

Agree with Super G…It’s been coming for years and continues to gain momentum . As more liberals come into power, the more they are gaining ground by having people buy into what they are selling.

Money is power, and in this case it’s do as I say, not as I do. The left always has body guards and security, the rest of us, too bad. It’s happening right in front of our eyes. Just look at Hollywood actors…these experts have all the answers, even though their jobs are “acting” and “make believe”, so far removed from the real world.

He’s right, first the 2a, then 1a , then on the road to socialism.

      • Alan Robinson May 17, 2019, 9:15 am

        “on the road to socialism”??
IF you remove the first two enumerated rights, you already ARE into socialism, smack dab in the middle of it in fact.
Then the only road is the bloody road out.
