Editor’s note: This article was a submission by Larry Keane, the senior vice president, assistant secretary and general counsel to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc.

With both the Republican National Convention (RNC) and the Democratic National Convention (DNC) now behind us, the gap between the Democratic and Republican party line on guns has become even more stark. A brief comparison of the party platforms illustrates the divide.

Republicans continue to believe government should “acknowledge, support, and defend the law-abiding citizen’s God-given right of self-defense,” but Democrats couldn’t disagree more. Democratic National Committee member Bonnie Schaefer embodied the new Democratic line on Second Amendment issues when she said, “I really don’t personally think anyone should have a gun.”

The Democratic Party platform calls for stricter gun control through numerous avenues, listed below verbatim Don't Know Who to Vote For? Consider How Each Party Differs on Guns

  • We will expand and strengthen background checks and close dangerous loopholes in our current laws;
  • Repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) to revoke the dangerous legal immunity protections gun makers and sellers now enjoy;
  • Keep weapons of war—such as assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines (LCAM’s)—off our streets;
  • We will fight back against attempts to make it harder for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to revoke federal licenses from law breaking gun dealers,
  • Ensure guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists, intimate partner abusers, other violent criminals, and those with severe mental health issues;
  • There is insufficient research on effective gun prevention policies, which is why the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must have the resources it needs to study gun violence as a public health issue

The Republican Party Platform in support of Americans’ Second Amendment rights is much longer, and goes into much greater detail Don't Know Who to Vote For? Consider How Each Party Differs on Guns

  • We uphold the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, a right which antedated the Constitution and was solemnly confirmed by the Second Amendment.
  • We acknowledge, support, and defend the law-abiding citizen’s God-given right of self-defense.
  • We call for the protection of such fundamental individual rights recognized in the Supreme Court’s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago affirming that right, and we recognize the individual responsibility to safely use and store firearms. This also includes the right to obtain and store ammunition without registration.
  • We support the fundamental right to self-defense wherever a law-abiding citizen has a legal right to be, and we support federal legislation that would expand the exercise of that right by allowing those with state-issued carry permits to carry firearms in any state that issues such permits to its own residents. Gun ownership is responsible citizenship, enabling Americans to defend their homes and communities.
  • We condemn frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers and oppose federal licensing or registration of law-abiding gun owners.
  • We oppose legislation that is intended to restrict our Second Amendment rights by limiting the capacity of clips or magazines or otherwise restoring the ill-considered Clinton gun ban.
  • We condemn the reckless actions associated with the operation known as “Fast and Furious,” conducted by the Department of Justice, which resulted in the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent and others on both sides of the border. We applaud the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in holding the current Administration’s Attorney General in contempt of Congress for his refusal to cooperate with their investigation into that debacle.
  • We oppose the improper collection of firearms sales information in the four southern border states, which was imposed without congressional authority.

The major gun related goal both parties have in common is to protect our Nation’s citizens and ensure guns do not fall into the hands of criminals. Though the goal is the same, the approach between parties differs drastically.

The key problem is that none of the Democratic policies mentioned above would actually accomplish the shared goal to make American safer. The majority of law enforcement officials agree Don't Know Who to Vote For? Consider How Each Party Differs on Gunsthat any vetted citizen should be able to purchase a firearm for sport or self-defense, and believe qualified, law-abiding armed citizens can help law enforcement reduce violent criminal activity.

Democratic policy choices are not making Americans feel safer. In the wake of tragic terrorist attacks and civil unrest, gun sales have actually risen Don't Know Who to Vote For? Consider How Each Party Differs on Guns, demonstrating that Americans look to their Second Amendment rights for protection.

Endorsing repeal of the PLCAA is the most revelatory plank of the Democrat’s platform as it shows the true intent to put gun manufacturers out of business. Democrats need to realize that their attempt to impose stricter gun control laws on lawful gun owners is not only constitutionally wrong, but does the opposite of what they’re advocating. America is safer when law abiding citizens are able to protect themselves and their families and communities.

The choice between party platforms could not be clearer for those who value their Second Amendment rights. It’s a shame that it has come to this. After all, it was not that long ago that many prominent Democrats did not adhere to what is now “progressive” orthodoxy on gun control. But the party is now led by Hillary Clinton, and she has made a concerted decision to campaign on this issue. As a result, the stakes could not be higher. If Hillary Clinton wins the White House, she will claim a mandate to pursue extremist agenda items in the party platform – gun control perhaps first and foremost.

Gun owners, take heed — #GUNVOTE on Nov 8, and tell your friends, family, and fellow gun owners to do the same!

Who keeps on voting women in congress, or for that matter any seat. Women do not belong in any political forum. PERIOD

  • Alan August 9, 2016, 4:45 pm

What! Wait! What about those who touted that there’s “Not a dimes worth of difference” between the Parties?!?!
Party trumps person, period. Or is it Party ‘Trumps’ person? 🙂
Make no mistake, if you own ANY type of gun, the Demmies are opposed to you.
Not just “Black” guns, ANY guns.

    • Dom Ragozine August 13, 2016, 11:23 pm

they want stiffer gun laws on good citizens like us . the real problem is the system run by Washington nut jobs . the shooting in Florida, that guy was on the FBI terrorist list twice but he was still able to purchase a gun and amo. they better look into themselves and do there job correctly . God bless America

  • Stephen Davie August 9, 2016, 8:41 am

The election upcoming in november is the time when Americans can engage a plan to revoke one and for all this sneak-thief plan of Clinton and her leftist crew, to keep chipping away at lawful gun ownership and use. American laws have not b een effective in adequately penalizing those who use firearms in the execution of criminal activities. Robberies, home invasions, drug dealing, human traffic abuse, organized crime operations and illegal gun runners, have never been pursued with any real or effective means. Thus, authorities in many cases have rather chosen to harass and obfuscate law abiding tax paying American citizens and their families, with enormous pressure put on traditional sport hunting and shooting communities who would never engage in violence involving firearms. The criminals are never seemingly adequately punished for the simple act of being in violation of firearm laws, and perhaps it is for this reason that so many thugs commit crimes with firearms. Hence I would ask, should people who commit crimes with firearms be allowed to continue to own guns? Or would keeping guns out of the hands of ex-cons who have committed a crime with a firearm, not make some sense? Why would Congress allow for a convicted gun-crime criminal to enjoy the same second amendment rights as a lawful tax-paying American citizen and firearm owner and traditional heritage law-abiding enthusiast? Hillary Clinton is quietly and in a very underhanded and irresponsible way, virtually courting the votes of imprisoned Americans who have the right to vote. While she casts about theories about curtailing legal gun use, she quietly sends out the message that imprisoned and released criminals will have a continuance of an atmosphere which will prosper the rights of criminals who abuse gun ownership rights, over the rights of innocent honest people to defend themselves, their homes and families and businesses. She is playing a very devious step-by-step game with the support and backing politically of those who do not understand traditional values of American sportsmen and collectors, and those wh o9simply want to live a secure3 life in their homes. It is time that governments started punishing criminals and protecting the lives and liberties and values of honest hard-working American families.

HRC is more to the Democratic left than BHO. If she wins, she will continue to transform America. She will pack all of the high circuit courts and the Supreme Court with activist judges that want to destroy the Constitution and the Rule of Law. She will grow the government to control us even more than now. She will expand entitlements so more people will vote for Democrats. In four years there will be no party (Republican, Libertarian, etc) that will be able to defeat the Democratic Party. The Democrat Party is the party of the special interest groups (Blacks, Hispanics, Teachers Union, Government Unions, Labor Unions, etc.) They give them just enough political payback to keep them happy and voting for them. Food stamps and entitlements are out of control. So wake up and realize that this election is not how you feel about the two turds running for election as President of the United States, it is about keeping our country from falling into the hands of the socialist/communist Democrat Party.
There are only 93 days before the 2016 election. It is too late for any third party candidate to do anything other than take votes away from the Republican nominee.
Unfortunately!!!!! No third party candidate will be on the debate stage and therefore will not have his policies put forth. Voting for a third party candidate in this election is vote for HRC. You my feel good about you third party vote but it will not count in determining the future of this country. Every vote will matter in this election. A 347 vote difference in Florida gave all the state’s electoral college votes to BHO in the last election. I would really like to see a third party in this country. Hopefully, it will happen in the next election. If the Democrats win the White House, it will be all over and no second or third party will be in power for a long time . So pick your turd hill and make your stand. I am picking the Republican Party hill. I think Donald J Trump may just be the next Teddy Roosevelt of our time. I think he will put good advisors around him and he will make this country Great and Respected again. We have now ware to go but UP!!! That will not happen with HRC.

A vote is a precious commodity. I don’t owe my vote to any party. They have to earn it, and quite frankly, the Republican party hasn’t done anything to earn it in a very long time, nor, have they presented me with a candidate whom I feel deserves my vote. I doubt the Dems will ever earn my vote.
The two major party candidates are disasters looking for a place to happen. Our nation, and possibly our world will be negatively impacted if either one of them gets into office. I can’t vote for either of them in good conscience, and I won’t.
I have no delusions that my third party candidate will win this election. He won’t. However, he, and his party best represent my values and principals, and that is what I am voting for.
Its ridiculous to say that voting for a 3rd party automatically is a vote for Clinton. Following your flawed logic, a 3rd party vote might just as easily go to Trump. Please educate yourself by reading one of the following articles, so that you will stop perpetuating this lie:
      http://freepress.org/article/wasted-vote-myth
      https://fee.org/articles/how-not-to-waste-your-vote-a-mathematical-analysis/
Go ahead, and vote for your Republican turd out of fear that the other turd might win if you don’t.
I have never allowed fear to rule my decisions, and, I’m not about to start now.
Out of principal and honor, I will vote for a man who has no chance of winning, but, one who shares, represents, and would defend my values, and the values I want to pass on to my kids and grandkids.
Regardless of which turd wins, God in on His throne, and in control of the situation. He destroyed Sodom and Gamora, and allowed Israel to be given over to wicked rulers and slavery when they turned their backs on Him. Perhaps He is about to do the same thing with America. Look at what our country has become. Who could blame Him if He did?

  • Black August 7, 2016, 1:18 am

If hillary wins this election, we will have to spill blood to keep our guns. Mark my words.

  • Chris Baker August 6, 2016, 3:24 pm

“that any vetted citizen should be able to purchase a firearm”
BULLPUCKY!!! Where does it say in the constitution that our rights, any of them, not just the second amendment right to keep and bear arms, can be exercised as long as we are “vetted”? Isn’t “vetted” just another form of asking permission? Isn’t being required to ask permission an infringement on the right in question? It sure does meet the dictionary definition of asking permission and only being allowed to do the requested action if given that permission. I don’t vote for a party. I vote yes or no on the individual and their RECORD. We KNOW that Hillary Clinton is completely untrustworthy and an inveterate liar. I think she’s worse than Barack Obama on those lines. She does it without thinking about it, it’s habitual. At least BO plans his lies. Unfortunately the republican party and the voters have nominated another inveterate liar and a bully. A person who thinks it’s fine to buy influence, to use government power to get what he wants in the business world. A man who would think nothing of trying to kick an elderly retired person out of her lifelong home just to build a parking lot for another casino. A person who had nothing but compliments for one of his opponents right up until that opponent beat him in a primary and then it was nothing but dirt “Lying Ted” etc. I can no more vote for Donald Trump than I could vote for Hillary Clinton. How about we vote for the Constitution party candidates or at least check them out. http://www.constitutionparty.com Their platform is “we follow the constitution, the way it was intended by the founders.” Look them up. Read their message yourself. Why is everyone so intent on voting for evil people???

  • Larry Brickey August 5, 2016, 9:53 pm

There are more than two choices. I’m voting Johnson/Weld. Where is thier platform entry on guns?

    • Chris Baker August 6, 2016, 3:26 pm

Last I heard, Johnson still hadn’t promised to follow the constitution although his running mate has done so.

  • Northman August 5, 2016, 8:26 pm

Not only only is Hillary anti 2nd Amendment but she is also a Globalist. More of our jobs will go overseas. She believes in open borders and more Non vetted Muslims and illegal immigrants. More power to blacks, Mexicans, gays and Muslims and less to veterans, whites and Christians. Even if she supported the 2nd amendment she has too much baggage for me to support her. If you don’t care for yourself think about your children and grand kids. They will all be forced to become socialists and Hillary and her kin will remain wealthy capitalists. Step into the voting booth this November take a deep breath ….. close your noise and vote Republican. You can vomit into a waste basket if you must . Because if Hillary wins you’ll wish that you had.

    • GTL August 10, 2016, 6:30 pm

After reading several post, all I can say is “I can’t believe some of this foolish talk against Donald Trump”. Northman, I must agree. Apparently some of our citizens that took the time to show their ignorance with their post and the links that they posted need to wake up before it’s too late. The people that don’t take the time to vote are usually the ones that you hear crying the loudest or complaining the most. Mr. Trump is a successful business man, whether people are willing to admit it or not. And I for one believe that is one thing that we as this nation’s people need right now. There are too many free handouts and so many of this lazy ass population feel that this world owes them something. I believe we need Jehovah God (the Father of Jesus Christ) first and foremost, then I believe we need a smart business minded person leading this nation, and from there I believe we need to build our military up to the point that we can feel safe again.

  • Bill The Cat August 5, 2016, 4:21 pm

They missed a party. We have more than 2. I am a Libertarian, and Libertarians should be up on the podium with the Ass’ and Hephalumps.

    • Chris Baker August 6, 2016, 3:29 pm

I like to refer to myself as a constitutional libertarian. The constitution was put in place to protect us from the government and to prevent people from stepping on other people’s rights as well as protect us from invaders. Neither “major” party has been doing any of that lately.

  • Big Daddy August 5, 2016, 2:06 pm

For all of you who are trying to scare people into voting for one of the two dysfunctional parties by saying that a vote for a 3rd party is either a wasted vote, or, a vote for whoever you see as your opponent:
A vote for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil. Simple as that.
A turd is a turd, and no amount of polishing will ever make it anything other than a turd.
It is YOUR vote, based upon your fear, which is the wasted vote.
Conversely, a vote based upon strongly-held beliefs and principals is NEVER a wasted vote.
However, if you need further evidence that a 3rd party vote is neither wasted, nor, a vote for the other major party, please educate yourselves with the following articles. The 1st one is the shortest, but, the 2nd one explains it better:
    http://freepress.org/article/wasted-vote-myth
    https://fee.org/articles/how-not-to-waste-your-vote-a-mathematical-analysis/
I’m a US combat veteran. I didn’t go to war for this country just to come home, and vote for two sh!tty candidates who don’t deserve to even run, and represent the American people, who will just cut backroom deals to line their own pockets, and, hang the rest of us out to dry.
You can do as you wish, but, I will vote based on my convictions, rather than my fears.
I’m voting for Darrell Castle http://www.castle2016.com
And not a one of you has the right to tell me that my vote is wasted.

    • Chris Baker August 6, 2016, 3:31 pm

All well and good for you, but that doesn’t change a damn thing.
You aren’t realistic, and you will be disappointed.
As to two evils, you are REALLY unrealistic there.

      • GTL August 10, 2016, 6:36 pm

Alan, I certainly agree with you on this post. “All well and good for you, but that doesn’t change a damn thing.
You aren’t realistic, and you will be disappointed.
As to two evils, you are REALLY unrealistic there”.

  • Larry August 5, 2016, 12:14 pm

ANY gun owner who continues to vote for Dems is a foolish person.

  • John August 5, 2016, 11:48 am

A vote for anyone other than Trump is a vote for Hillary. The next President will set the Supreme Court for the next 2 decades. If you like your 2nd Amendment rights don’t toss them away.

  • John August 5, 2016, 11:45 am

A vote cast for anyone other than Trump is the same as voting for Hillary. The next president will appoint as many as 5 Supreme court justices. This is the most important election of our lifetime. Don’t piss it away.

  • Alfonso Alfredo Rodriguez August 5, 2016, 11:23 am

My opinion: I am a firearms enthusiast but I do not vote based on a candidate’s gun stance although that certainly is influential. Gun rights is just another plate on the menu and not the most important. I do not like our current candidates but the fact that we have less than ideal nominees is the mostly the fault of ignorant voters and the lack of courage of more qualified candidates that refuse to run due to many idiotic reasons. I will vote for the lesser of the two evils. Hillary happens to be qualified in skills and intelligence, even if hes morals are tainted but who’s is not in one way or another) but I admit that it is like choosing a turd stake over a bowl of diarrhea. I really do not care so much about who is going to be President as much as which party will dominate the House and Senate; they can control and keep the President from doing to many stupid things by blocking many executive initiates. If you do not think so, just look at both terms of President Obama, yes, he passed a lot of projects but not as many as he would have liked, some good and some very bad. Congress levels the playing field unless one party is in the total control of the Executive and Legislative branches and still is difficult to do whatever they want. I would not vote for an idiot like Trump who would would destroy all social progress from the last 60 years, even if he promised to let me buy a M2 50 cal machine gun without a license, without registration and allowed me to keep it in my closet, no questions ask. Look at the big picture: do you think that Hillary can take your guns away so easily by Federal mandate? The individual states have more power in that regard. If it were so easy, Obama would have already done it. Do not vote for a candidate who’s potential to damage the reputation of the USA, who will be an international laughing stock and his ability to make decisions is impaired by a Napoleonic complex, delusions of grandeur and lack of intellect and common sense (and possible a smaller penis than he would like) In view of that, voting for someone just based on his stance on the 2A is ridiculous, owing a gun is not as important as having the right to vote, free speech, freedom of association and religion. We can always fight for our gun rights in court (with more success than failure based on recent experience), regardless of who is President. Use your proper logic and consider all options when voting or else just vote Libertarian.

  • Wild Bill August 5, 2016, 10:00 am

Shoving the 2-party system down our throats again.
    Look Libertarian, folks.
The 2-party system is broken – and they are driving all of us to the poor house.

  • Big Daddy August 5, 2016, 9:50 am

You cant trust Trump. He’s a lunatic, and Hillary is a lying, gun-grabbing, murderous bitch. Some people have suggested Gary Johnson and the Libertarian Party. I believe they will protect 2nd amendment rights, but, some of their other platform policies are questionable in my opinion.
There IS another, and, BETTER choice. Check out presidential candidate Darrel Castle – http://www.castle2016.com – of the Constitution Party
    http://www.ConstitutionParty.com
He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but, he more closely represents my values, than anyone else running.

  • Pete August 5, 2016, 9:08 am

How as a firearms community do you write this article and not talk about Gary Johnson? The libertarian ticket is the ticket that makes the most sense and you not including them in this article makes me question who’s pulling the strings at guns America. Pull it together and delve a little deeper with your story writing.

    • Jason August 5, 2016, 10:03 am

Because Gary Johnson stands a snowballs chance in hell of actually winning the election and is therefore irrelevant. A vote for him might as well be a vote for the Democrats. If you actually care about your 2nd amendment rights, there is only one way to vote.

      • Drew August 5, 2016, 10:44 am

A vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Gary Johnson. Just as a vote for Jill Stein is a vote for Jill Stein. Or Darrel Castle. It’s not a horse race.

        • Bill August 5, 2016, 11:38 am

This is going to be a close race and when people vote for a third-party candidate it takes votes away from the two major party candidates. These lost votes will make a difference and could lead to a Democratic victory. More people are registered as democrats and that is one of the reasons republicans need to stay strong and stick with their party. None of the third party candidates are making a strong showing at this time and look like a waste of a vote.
If you look back at Teddy Roosevelt, he was a loud mouth, say what’s on your mind president, just like Trump, and most people thing he was a good president. Trump might not have been my first choice and even though I am a Democrat, I could never vote the evil Hillary. But, I will be happy with a Teddy Roosevelt type of president (Trump) and this is what the United States needs right now.

  • Jack August 5, 2016, 9:07 am

We ll love guns and I do too. You cannot let one single issue define an election of the President of the US. The issue is far more important than gun control.

Donald Trump is a disaster and cannot be trusted on any issue. He make up things as he goes along. There will be NO wall, NO ban on Muslims and nothing he promises or says will happen. Donald will destroy this country.

While we may all not like Hillary Clinton, she is the choice we have. She is sensible and will make rational decisions.

Gun controls has so many hurdles to go through before anything happens. Congress, Senate, President and Supreme Court. Remember it is the law and only an amendment of the Constitution can change that law and that is not happening.

Ultimately each one of us has to make our decision in the voting booth. Do not late a single issue destroy this country.

    • Kimberpross August 5, 2016, 10:08 am

You’re delusional! Thanks to our Founding Fathers we have a Bureaucratic Republic with the three equal branches to protect us from radical attacks on our Constitution and Bill of Rights. However, the Democrat’s agenda, if Clinton is in the White House will keep pressure applied on our second Amendment like we have never seen. Being progressive they choose to attack the Constitution believing it is out dated for today’s society, it doesn’t fit a Marxist or Socialist model, like they prefer. As for Walls and Immigration, if the majority don’t want that to happen, it won’t. If the majority does, it will. You obviously have been drinking the koolaid on “No Muslims” and the belief Clinton will make more sensible, rational decisions.(Sensible reminds me of the Bloomberg “Common Sense Gun Control”) First of all, neither candidate in the White House will be making isolated decisions. The advantage of Trump is his private sector approach of surrounding himself with intelligent experienced people to fill his weak areas for success. Unlike Obama, and I am sure Clinton as well, surrounding themselves with cronies and yes men, public sector academic professors that run social experiments to gather data for their next textbook once they are out of the administration. What Trump has stated repeatedly (And the Dems and the liberal media have consistently/constantly miss quoted) is a moratorium on Muslim immigration from regions of the world with strong Radical Islamic Terror ties until an effective/efficient vetting process is established to better ensure no Terrorists are allowed in the country. I for one agree with that. Clinton is a disaster. If you plan to vote for her, just send me your guns, you don’t deserve to own them. Private mail me for my address.

    • Gingerbaker August 5, 2016, 11:24 am

Jack – I agree with you.

Folks – look at those Dem proposals – they basically want to close loopholes which should be closed, and keep firearms out of the hands of people who don’t deserve them.

Your right to own and use pistols, hunting guns, AR rifles is PROTECTED. True assault weapons are automatic weapons and not legal for most people. AR-type weapons are PROTECTED, because they are semiautomatic and popular – millions of people own them, which means they are in common use, and therefore protected.

      This is a non issue.

Vote your conscience secure in the knowledge that your gun rights can not be breached.

If you are a hunter, I WILL say this: If you value hunting habitat, then global warming is a huge and important issue. Only the Democrats will do anything about it – the Repubs are complete idiots on the topic.

    • JT August 5, 2016, 11:26 am

“Donald will destroy this country”. Too late Jack, the Democratic Party already has.

    • Stephen Davie August 9, 2016, 9:03 am

Hillary Clinton would sell her soul for the sake of her undeserved political support. SHE is responsible for abandoning the American embassy staff in Benghazi. SHE is responsible for invading Libya which has resulted 9as predicted) in Libya now being a strong ISIS country. SHE is the one person who has taken the deserved world respect for the American flag and justice, into the gutters of international ridicule and shame. SHE has been caught in lies so many times by the press, from her Whitewater days, to her Arkansas over-exposure and involvement in corrupt activities, to her filthy language and abusive behavior with staff in the White House and the Governor’s house. She has done a 180 degree turn on so many issues, and this she does unabashedly in full view of the media. She has a major credibility issue problem, and she has shown herself to be a very vindictive and indeed dangerous person to place in any role which involves the lives and liberties of honest American people and their families. Her “realtionship” with Obama is a wonderful example of her 180 degree face-changing tactics. The man she virtually despised is now the one who feels she needs to get elected. You can expect Obama has been pencilled in for a soft-landing career involving huge amounts of taxpayer dollars, and his residency in the White House comes to an overdue end. Clinton and Obama have made this election about race. This is something she celebrates as she pampers the minority votes which supported Obama by 90% in his election. They are calling Hillary “white chocolate” which is an offensive term for sure, but it alludes to the fact that is she could, she would change the color of her own skin in order to win enough support to get elected. Thankfully, many minority groups including people of African American heritage from Chicago where Obama allegedly lives, have discovered that minorities in the USA has been indeed ignored by Obama and Clinton, and that promises made at election time have all but been forgotten. Crime surges in Chicago at unprecedented rates, while Obama plays golf, and Hillary goes forward on her campaign of deceit, deception and overt public lies. This election to date, is perhaps the worst election in American history. Gun owners need not worry about the political policy statements of the two prime candidates. Gun owners….hetitage sportsmen, collectors, manufacturers, the sport store industry, lodge owners and outfitters, farmers and ranchers, single moms, aging pensioners and the vulnerable……everyone would be wise to VOTE for your GUN RIGHTS. A vote for Hillary is a vote for trouble, mayhem and the eventual loss of the right to possess and use firearms without harassment by devious and uncaring untrustworthy politicians.

  • Dewey August 5, 2016, 8:54 am

Thank imaginary god for the R party, whose track record on gun control differs little from the D party. It was a Republican president (Reagan) who signed McClure-Volkmer into law in, a Republican who implemented the 1989 “assault weapons” import ban (H.W. Bush) that was later only expanded by a Democrat president (Clinton crime bill 1994). The 1994 crime bill sunsetted in 2004 but the import ban exists to this day. A Republican president (W.) stated flatly that he would sign an extension of the crime bill should it cross his desk. We have a one-party system run by corporations. Quit being chumps and think for yourselves, this is not a football game with teams. By the way, you don’t elect the President (and never have), the founders were way too smart to allow the idiot public to have that power.

Used to be the senators elected the president. The states people didn’t elect the senators either. That was done by the state’s legislatures. Used to be you had to own land to vote. People had a stake in the government doing it’s job properly. We still do but many only see government as the Goose who lays the golden eggs, not caring that real people are being forced to pay for all the largess. Phaw. The probably don’t even know what largess is. People should NEVER have allowed the government to control the schools.

The problem with the choices is that the Dumbassocrats are hell bent to disarm everyone except the criminals and our now thoroughly militarized “civilian” police departments but the Republicans et al want to do other extremely bad things that are not gun related. I am nearly 70 years old and worked my ass off most of my life. The GOP calls my Social Security Insurance an entitlement and wants to take it away. Excuse Me? That’s MY money! It was deducted from my wages. It is NOT an entitlement and it is the reason people like me have nobody to vote for because we are also supporters of the 2nd Amendment. Those that blindly support either major party are sheep playing a fool’s game. I am an “old school” progressive. I grew up shooting, hunting, reloading ammo, etc. but I also grew up thoroughly understanding the need for government regulation of those who now control the hierarchy of BOTH parties. They are called Oligarchs and We The People had a clear opportunity to break the cycle and have a candidate that supported our Rights that according to Madison, and Jefferson were given by the god of nature and not granted by government and therefore cannot be taken away. Yes It’s true I am an avid student of history and have thoroughly studied the foundations of our Constitution. I could add much more but will and here. I only responded because I am a true Progressive and staunchly support the 2nd Amendment and couldn’t allow misinformed bashing of those that share my philosophy. There are in fact many millions of us that fiercely supported the only true Progressive in the presidential race that was defeated by fraud and the Hillary machine but then the GOP offers those that want to take MY money (Social Security) and make me homeless. No Thanks to either choice. It’s the accurate definition of being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Hell even my older brother is a very dangerous line towing liberal. Ya just can’t win but I will never surrender to TYRANNY!

Well said Mr. Bennett, thanks for sharing your wisdom.

    • Dewey August 5, 2016, 9:05 am

Well stated. Sadly, the public’s capacity for critical thought is also well lacking.

First, I do not support the Democrat position. Second, I must argue that your implication that the Democratic Committee members comment was a platform standard. She stated “I really don’t personally think anyone should have a gun.”, the qualifying word is “personally” which means she was stating a personal opinion and not speaking for the Democrats. While that is her personal opinion her actions and support for the Democratic gun control position is hypocritical and speaks to her integrity.

What makes you buy into the news media narrative? I will vote for Gary Johnson. My vote will not enable either one of these other two misfits. My years in USMC says I can endure much worse than either of these two. Furthermore, read the Bible! When the Babylonian Empire took Israel; lock, stock and barrel to Babylon… All of the doomsday prognosticators would have you believe in the demise of Israel! Well! How about Cyrus the Great? Nobody told him that Israel was done! You fools can go right ahead and buy into the line of feces peddled by the Dems, the GOP and the news media. As long as everybody still believes them in a subordinate fashion, we will get more of the same results…

Johnson/Weld is the most sensible choice for maintaining freedom and the American way. I am seeing here that others share my beliefs and hope that somehow this ticket overcomes the pathetic binary choices. As long as mechanics are around, so there will be guns no matter how hard leftists try to steal one’s manhood or womanhood. Best be legal guns and this is what these thieving politicians do not understand.

Perfectly stated. The Democratic Party has become the socialist/communist party of this century. Examine their tactics over the last 30 years, their no different than what Stalin and Hitler used to gain and maintain power for decades.

    • Dewey August 5, 2016, 9:26 am

The Democrat side of the coin killed 20+ million ordinary citizens? I must have missed that one. They cleansed the country of an entire religion? Missed that one too. This type of ridiculous hyperbole immediately kills any credibility that your comment may have had. Confusing “their” and “they’re” doesn’t help much either, but I’m sure that you’re (you are) the victim of the oppressive,
      Democrat-controlled public education system.

You think Hillary will protect the 2nd Amendment! THINK AGAIN! Watch the Video:

If you follow the Democratic party thinking process through to its completion, they are the end of the free US(America)…..and this isn’t a speculation…think about it…it’s fact. If you disagree with them(on ANYTHING), you are wrong and bad and should be removed from the gene pool. The Govt controls EVERYTHING, individual rights are totally gone and they have to save you from yourself, even though it’s ok to kill unborn babies and old people. If the death panels don’t get you, then the population culls likely will, unless you are in with the rich political elite and/or have some value to them.
And while I believe the current Republican party leaders need to be replaced, the Republican party mindset is more for individual rights, the people retain power over the Govt and life goes on. Is this really hard to see folks?!?!?! WAKE UP AND VOTE REPUBLICAN IF YOU VALUE AMERICA AND FREEDOM!!!!!!! This article is just further proof.
