Swalwell’s Rally Falls Flat as He Announces Most Draconian Gun-Ban Proposal of All 2020 Candidates

Eric “Nuke ‘Em!” Swalwell released his gun control proposal this week to the raucous applause of 12 supporters at a rally outside the National Rifle Association headquarters in Alexandria, Va. The California Congressmen’s stance on guns ranks among the most extreme of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, but his proposals don’t appear to be galvanizing the masses to his cause.

“We’re done letting the bullying, tweeting minority that leads the NRA dictate whether Americans live or die,” Swalwell told the “crowd.” “I’m taking the battle to the NRA’s doorstep with a new, broader package of commonsense reforms to end gun violence. We’re done relying on thoughts and prayers – it’s time to act.”

Swalwell put up a brave face on Twitter, telling his 92,000 social media followers, “THIS IS IT! We’re announcing our comprehensive plan to END GUN VIOLENCE!”

Turns out, the representative most famous for threatening to nuke gun owners is also brave enough to use the crop tool on his smartphone. A slightly wider angle revealed that Swalwell’s campaign probably printed too many signs.

One of the attendees, a father of one of the Parkland victims who’s vowed to “dedicate the rest of my life to the cause of gun safety,” claimed in response that the event was invite only.

Still, based on Swalwell’s polling numbers, this might as well have been one of his rallies. The Congressmen has made an “assault weapon” confiscation scheme the cornerstone of his campaign, but the policy hasn’t given Swalwell any noticeable bump in the polls.  Most surveys show Swalwell garnering 0% percent of the vote, lower than the “someone else” or “other” option included in most data (1-2%).

His unpopularity hasn’t stopped the Golden State rep from moving forward with his gun-ban proposal. The complete monstrosity is even longer, but this is (we kid you not) only the policy items that deal specifically with firearms.

  • Ban and buyback semi-automatic “assault weapons.” The only exception would be for shooting ranges where civilians could should those “assault weapons.”
  • Ban and buy back bump stocks, large-capacity magazines that are capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and silencers.
  • Implement a 48-hour cooling-off period between the time a person purchases a firearm and the time they take possession of it.
  • Establish standards for safely storing firearms including smart tech, mandate that all gun owners comply with those standards, and fund a national educational program focused on safe storage of firearms.
  • Implement background checks for all firearm and ammunition purchases, regardless of whether the seller is federally licensed, a gun show vendor, or a private seller.
  • Create a federal licensing program for gun owners, requiring them to satisfactorily complete a training program with both written and practical exams, the same way most states do with cars and hunters.
  • Require that liability insurance be purchased before a person can buy, trade, or otherwise receive a firearm, which is what states already require for automobiles.
  • Create a national firearm registry that is linked to individual firearms, and require that all purchases, transfers, and donations of firearms be mandatorily registered.
  • Require federally licensed firearms dealers to conduct their business only in commercial sporting goods or firearms premises, not from their homes, funeral homes, or other premises that are not otherwise related to sporting or firearms.
  • Prohibit individuals from purchasing more than one handgun per 30-day period.
  • Require all federally licensed firearms dealers to report firearm theft within 24 hours.
  • Require all federally licensed firearms dealers to conduct an inventory of their firearms at least once every six months and report the inventory results to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • Prohibit the online sale of firearms manufactured after the year 1898.
  • Require that all people or businesses selling more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition in a 30-day period be federally licensed in a program similar to the Federal Firearms Licensee system.
  • Prohibit the online sale of ammunition.
  • Limit ammunition sales for individual purchasers to 200 rounds per 30-day period.
  • Prohibit individuals from hoarding ammunition in quantities exceeding 200 rounds per caliber or gauge.
  • Repeal the law that prohibits the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from consolidating and centralizing records relating to the acquisition of firearms maintained by federal firearms licensees.
  • Empower the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to increase the frequency of unscheduled audits of federally licensed firearms dealers.
  • Incentivize states to create a statutory rebuttable presumption of liability if a gun registered to a person causes harm to the person or property of another.
  • Let people sue gun manufacturers by repealing the Protection for Lawful Commerce in Guns Act, which is a federal law the protects gun manufacturers from civil liability.
  • Empower the Consumer Product Safety Commission or other relevant federal agencies to implement safety standards that must be met by all firearms manufactured or in commerce in the United States, to eliminate junk guns, and to examine the feasibility of smart gun technology.
  • Prohibit the manufacture or sale of guns that are not detectable by metal detectors, including 3-D printed firearms.
  • Regulate firearm assembly kits the same way firearms are regulated.
  • Mandate evidence-based ballistics identification techniques, such as microstamping, for all rifles and handguns manufactured or in commerce in the United States.
  • Prohibit the manufacture and sale of M855 ammunition for civilians.
  • Prohibit the manufacture and sale of hollow-nose bullets for civilians.

H/T Townhall.

Everytown for Gun Safety applauded Swalwell’s plan, telling supporters in an email that the 2020 cycle has been “notable” for the number of candidates “proudly embracing gun safety as an issue to run and win on.”

“More and more voters are calling for leaders who will take action on gun safety — and more and more leaders are making robust plans to do exactly that,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Rep. Swalwell’s new gun safety platform is the latest evidence that preventing gun violence will be a key issue in the 2020 campaign.”

It’s doubtful whether “more and more voters” are calling for restrictions on their Second Amendment rights. But it’s certain that they aren’t calling on Rep. Swalwell to do it.

Is it just me or do elected officials forget who elected them and just run with the party line? I Remember growing up in the Deep South in the ’60s when you couldn’t tell democrats from Republicans. Despite that, the Dems seemed to carry most elections. That ended for my state in 2003 and very governor elected since then have been Republicans. Out state legislature is now a majority red. And it cannot possibly be that the entire Democratic Party suddenly lost their mind and went off the left deep end.

And does anyone know what platform and policies the Dems are now running on? All they talk about is getting Trump out of office. They say he has done no actual work and lies – but they fail to ever mention any of the lies they claim he speaks. They blame him for coronavirus but hell they were miserably trying to impeach him when he stopped in coming air traffic from China. They said that was a mistake but had to retract that statement when the pandemic closed our country. And which cities and states have been mostly hurt by Covid? Well the democratically controlled ones; and they want the red states to bail them out. No way! And, are they going to enforce gun laws? No; the BLM and antifa groups are openly carrying firearms and threatening (and shooting some along the way) but the DAs and states AGs in those blue states refuse to prosecute violent protesters. And now they allow the violent protesters to get away with violence and choose instead to defund and disband police departments. Before November, if you haven’t done so already, gun up and hunker down!

When will these mentally deficient Demoncrats get through there thick skulls &microscopic brains, that you can’t buy back something that never was yours to begin with! All members of the Democratic party should be imprisoned for Treason! The right to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed, doesn’t mean anything to them. But murdering babies, giving illegal foreign invaders more rights than US citizens, making tax payers foot the bill for gender realignment surgery, & coddling criminals, is GREAT! Leftism is a mental defect that needs to be cured, and soon!

Swallowswell’s rally looks more like a funeral! This country doesn’t need any more Nazis.

  • The Millionth Counsel June 21, 2019, 12:23 pm

All the 2020 democrat candidates are all gun banners. He is just being honest about it. It’s good to see he doesn’t have much of a fan base, however I suspect that has more to do with the fact that he lacks name recognition. No matter which democrat candidate takes on Trump in 202, he or she will be anti gun.

  • Rangemaster11B June 21, 2019, 12:19 pm

Swallowswell is a legend in his own mind. It is disgusting that someone with his grasp of the Constitution is a member of the House.

  • Emmett B. Lance June 21, 2019, 10:36 am

This little brain liberal is living proof that stupid people should not procreate, a walking testimonial that some people are truly a waste of sperm.

  • Michael A Keim June 21, 2019, 8:40 am

Heil Swalwell. Just another political prostitute.

  • Hendrik Haan June 21, 2019, 7:54 am

Don’t worry! He won’t get elected POTUS. The only people that showed up were his staff and a few reporters. The ones holding signs are mostly college age. What a laugh! Just watch the Democrat debates. They will laugh him right out of there.

  • BigC June 21, 2019, 6:44 am

This POS clown knows he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting the nomination, even against this bunch of losers, he just wants to waste money and get publicity!!

  • George Hammond June 21, 2019, 3:18 am

I almost wish he would get elected and implement this tyrannical plan, it would be enough to start the civil war to end all evidence of a Democratic party. This guy seriously needs to rethink his very existence and jump off a bridge. It would save more lives than any of his unconstitutional hair brained ideas ever could.

  • john sabin June 20, 2019, 7:50 pm

    What a douche.

  • Sepp W June 20, 2019, 7:23 pm

Swalwell is incompetent and everything he says is fed to him by his radicalized handlers funded by Soros. He’ll be out the race well before the primaries ever roll around. Albeit his “gun control” agenda is all the things the liberals would like to see imposed on all law-abiding Americans. Criminals are exempt though, because Swalwell and his ilk believe there are no criminals, only crime.

He figures showing up at the HRA HQ was going to mean something. I was wondering if he and his crew was on NRA property proper. If so, NRA security should have called the police, reported them as trespassers, and to remove them.

  • Dr Motown June 20, 2019, 8:44 am

If you wanted to make a statement, why would Smallbrain only invite 12 folks?

  • Fritz June 19, 2019, 10:56 pm

Look, everyone stood in line to gt a free poster. You know for sure that the people doing all the shooting of other people will definitely obey all these laws.

  • Dilligaf June 19, 2019, 7:52 pm

What’s sad is that people actually believe and want to follow this anti-American liberal. They applaud his constitution bashing
