Everytown Dropping $8 Million to Turn Texas Anti-Gun in 2020

Everytown Dropping Million to Turn Texas Anti-Gun in 2020

Everytown for Gun Safety is spending $60 million on the 2020 elections, $8 million of which will target Texas as the nation’s anti-gun lobby hopes to turn the Lone Star State from Red to Blue.

Operation “Gun Sense Majority: Texas,” as Everytown calls it, aims to flip key congressional seats in the suburbs, retain occupied “gun sense” seats in the U.S. and state Houses, and grow the anti-gun voting electorate.

“Gun safety has become a top issue for voters — especially in the suburbs — as Texas becomes younger and more diverse, and after years of horrific gun violence and lawmakers who fail to address it,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, which falls under the Everytown umbrella.

“That’s why we’ll focus on electing gun sense candidates up and down the ballot in Texas, where a majority of households own guns, because polling proves gun owning and non-gun owning parents alike want their children to keep their kids safe,” she added.

Everytown cited polling from the Global Strategy Group to make its case that attitudes toward gun control were changing in Texas:

  • Texas voters support stronger gun laws by a 5:1 margin (51% stronger/9% less strong). And in battleground districts, voters support stronger gun laws by an even larger 54% to 10% margin.
  • Over three-quarters of Texas voters (78% statewide; 86% of battleground voters), including 84% of voters who support stronger gun laws, consider a candidate’s position on guns “very important” to their vote in 2020.
  • Vast majorities of voters statewide and in battleground districts — including undecided voters, gun owners, Latino voters and suburban women — support individual gun safety measures, including blocking domestic abusers from having guns (91% statewide; 89% in battleground districts), requiring background checks on all gun sales (87% statewide; 82% in battleground districts), and red flag laws (80% statewide; 77% in battleground districts).
  • Sixty percent of voters, including a majority of Republican women (57%) and voters in battleground districts (58%) say they would never vote for a candidate who doesn’t support background checks on all gun sales. Compared with other candidate positions on issues like health care, national security and immigration, opposition to background checks on all gun sales is the single most disqualifying candidate position among suburban women by a nine-point margin, and tied for the top among Latino voters by a three-point margin.

As with all polls, the devils in the details.  That is to say, how the questions are phrased.  Asking one if one supports “requiring background check on all gun sales” is much different than asking one if one supports “criminalizing private transfers.”

Wonder what the results of the poll would look like if the question was: Should it be illegal for you to let your cousin borrow your rifle to go hunting for the afternoon?  Or, should you be arrested for selling your Glock 19 to your neighbor?

Because that’s really what’s at stake with “universal background check” (UBC) legislation.  Gun shops already are required to run background checks at the point of sale.  Only private sales and transfers are allowed to proceed without a NICS check.

However, if one knows or has reason to believe the person one is selling or transferring a gun to is a prohibited person (felon, domestic abuser, minor, drug addict, etc.), it’s illegal for him or her to do so.  In other words, existing law already bans criminals from transferring or selling guns to one another, or to other prohibited persons.

Why do we need UBCs then?  The answer is, of course, we don’t.  Unless the agenda is to chill the 2A rights of law-abiding citizens.  Which is exactly the goal of Everytown.

One can apply the same scrutiny to the other legislative goals of Everytown.  The truth is existing federal law already prohibits convicted domestic abusers from possessing firearms and allows for authorities to monitor or, if need be, detain or involuntarily commit credible threats to public safety.  Why then do we need red flag laws?

The answer, again, is we don’t.  Unless the objective is to ignore due process and disarm citizens.  Which, again, is the real goal of Everytown.

Hopefully, Texans can see through the smoke and mirrors of Operation: “Gun Sense Majority: Texas.”  Because the future of their 2A rights depends on it.

There are many people so afraid of guns, they think they should be abolished. While they are misguided thinking that if they take guns away from the good guys, that the bad guy won’t have any, I still respect their opinion. What worries me is all the money spent trying to influence elections, and Congress. It is one thing to let your Congressman know your views (everybody has one), but quite another to amass and spend millions to coerce others to act in favor of your particular ideology. Even if I were opposed to guns,I would beware of this bandwagon.

Now soon expect the Chinesse to get the dual citizens to go door to door in the poor sections of town to register thousands of new voters. Liberation Road aka Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) a marxist organization assisted in turning Virginia Blue. Millions of dollars perhaps by officers of the peoples republic of China were pumped into the campaigns. See Epoch Times and New American 2/17/2020 for specifics on how it was done.

As a Texan I am concerned by how close Nacho Beto came to defeating Ted Cruse. The results are unfathomable to me. Stupid people are voting in droves. Mike Judge is looking more and more like a prophet every day. I dare you to watch “ “Idiocracy”.

Having been involved, writing and analyzing marketing research, I would really like to see the research questions used and the breakdown of the respondents by all demographics and political affiliation. This research and the analysis could be as bogus as the apparent results.

When the leftists and Democrats talk about “common sense gun safety legislation,” they always bring up Universal Background Checks which requires a background check for EVERY firearm transfer.

So let’s understand what “Universal Background Checks” actually mean….

    1) A father gives his son a rifle, and the son must legally go through a background check.
    2) A gang member can sell someone a gun out of the trunk of his car, and no background check is needed, and certainly none is performed.

Someone explain to me the following:
Why the background check is needed in the first example…
How the universal background check law will prevent the 2nd example…

Texas House District 28 (Fort Bend County – just south of Houston) recently completed a special runoff election. That race was supposed to be the “bell weather” race for Democrats in their attempt to turn Texas from Red to Purple. Democrat supporters from outside Texas (including “Everytown”) spent over a million dollars on this one race alone. The result? Republican Gary Gates defeated his Democrat opponent For this Texas House District 28 seat. Interestingly enough, Francis O’Rourke (or “Beto” as he is sometimes referred to, but here in Texas we just call him “Nacho” – as in “Not Yo Senator” after his fascinating loss to Senator Ted Cruz – even after the Dems spent millions and millions of dollars trying to win that Senate seat!) Spent so much time in Fort Bend County trying to get Gates’ opponent elected, Nacho could have changed his address to Fort Bend County! But this just goes to show you everyone that voters can’t be bought (at least in Texas).

That race became something of a proving ground for how competitive Texas will be in the 2020 general election. Democrats have been investing in flipping the House seat after picking up 12 House seats in the 2018 midterm elections and hope to flip others come November to gain a majority.

“Now I think this has energized the Republican side, that, not only can we keep those eight or nine seats (Democrats) were fighting for, through hard work were can take some seats back,” Gates said in a Tuesday interview.

And less we forget – District 19, south of San Antonio, was won by a Republican candidate – the first Republican to Ever win that district! So the hits just keep coming for Republicans in The Lone Star State. But we must keep getting our message out in order to ensure Conservative Republicans control our great state.

    Gunless Senseless Voter

  • Maha February 21, 2020, 10:07 am

The number one reason Texans need to remain armed was cited in the article by “Moms Demand Action”: “Gun safety has become a top issue for voters — especially in the suburbs — as Texas becomes younger and more diverse…”
Communities down to individual neighborhoods have been ranked on, among other things, crime and safety all across the country, and the one demographic constant that is seen in low crime communities is a 50-50 ratio of male female–meaning married couples, and the second is an overwhelmingly white census.
Rather than take the guns away from law-biding citizens, why not figure out how to address the factors that cause minority individuals to be the largest perpetrator of crime, especially violent crime?

    • Domingo Fuentes February 25, 2020, 6:20 pm

Wait a minute Maha, minorities (Blacks, Latinos, Asians, etc) aren’t the only ones that commit violent crimes. Take for instance the mass shooting in El Paso, the person committing the crime was Caucasian (although he was a minority in EL Paso for sure). When you generalize about who commits a crime, use some statistics and fact before you open your mouth. Did you know that most serial killers are NOT minorities? Most people commit crimes because of circumstance, being poor, drug addiction, opportunity, not knowing right from wrong, pressure from groups, and on and on. That does not necessarily mean that minorities are the only ones committing crimes. Use this opportunity to weight in on need to defeat all of those that want to take away our rights to gun ownership and leave your prejudice out of the conversation..

Texas is the Conservative giant for the progressives to bring down. If they can conquer TX, they can conquer any state. They have had their sights on the Lone Star State for some time now. With Liberals gaining traction in Austin and Houston, who knows when they’ll turn TX blue? Hopefully never, but hope in one hand, 💩 in the other, and see which one weighs more. On a side note, while Bloomberg is spending tons of money for his political gain, why are there no rich conservatives doing the same to counter Mini Mike?

  • Ben February 21, 2020, 9:07 am

They might as well put that money in a big fire and watch it burn. Texans will NEVER give up our guns and any candidate supporting that radical agenda will go down in flames. You may squeak a few by in Austin, Dallas and Houston but the rural voters will vote them down every time. We are numerous, and we VOTE.

    • I Love Liberty February 24, 2020, 8:11 pm

Ben, make sure you encourage all your Texas conservative friends to get out to vote in 2020. Virginia conservative voter turn out was low in 2019 and some Democrats had no opponent candidates at all running against them. Turn out to vote and encourage others to vote for the Constitution and liberty.

  • srsquidizen February 21, 2020, 8:59 am

Only liberal-brainwashed carpetbaggers, who fled the imploding state of Commiefornia for the prosperity of Texas, will fall for this Bloomberg-funded idiocy. Real Texans just recently experienced the most convincing evidence you could ever possibly have that armed citizens save lives not gun grabbers!

  • Michael February 21, 2020, 7:50 am

For those who Do NOT Know: The Dems are moving in droves from the Liberal Coasts because Texas is Where the JOBS Are! They bring their Liberal Ideas, that Did NOT work out so well for them before, with them when they come, and then Vote, (or Run), Candidates who think like them. THEY are the Real Threat to Texas. The Liberals KNOW that if they can turn Texas, then No One Else Matters! They will have ALL the Electoral Votes they need. THAT, My friends, is the Simple Truth. Just ask ANY Multi-Generational Texan.

    • Alej February 21, 2020, 8:54 am

Exactly right… too many California and Yankee maggots are already here. Stay the hell out of Texas.

      • rlverrat February 21, 2020, 3:50 pm

Easy there Alej. I’m a yankee from the upper midwest and as much a red blooded patriot, if not more so, as you ever were or will be.

  • Hendrik Haan February 21, 2020, 7:30 am

Why don’t 2A advocates tell the real effects? Like, if we surrender our arms in Texas, who do you think will take over our state? The Mexican Narcos or will the Democrats protect us from them? Most Texans know what will happen, unless they prefer to believe in the tooth fairy.

  • Boba Fett February 21, 2020, 5:55 am

Why not include some details in here about when the state-wide elections are going to take place? That would make it even easier for Texans to get out there and secure their gun rights.

    • CharlieKing1 February 21, 2020, 9:12 am

In Texas early voting begins on February 18, 2020 and ends on February 28, 2020. Primary election is held on March 3, 2020. There is no excuse for Texas gunners to not go and vote. I voted yesterday.

    • Old Sailor February 21, 2020, 9:29 am

Early voting for the primaries in Texas is underway now and runs for another week. March 3 is the actual primary. Some positions are unopposed (no Dem running), as is the case for Texas State Rep in my district, so this the only opportunity to vote for those positions. However, there are 3 Republicans running for the position in the primary. There are 8 Dems, if I remember correctly, running to oppose John Cornyn for Senator in Nov. I’m no fan of John since he is normally only conservative at election time, but he’s better than the Dems running against him. It’s time Texas; Get out and vote today!

  • jim freeman February 21, 2020, 3:05 am

We Patriots in 2020 must do whatever is required to UTTERLY DESTROY the so-called “Mom’s demand action” group & expose them for the CLUELESS FOOLS, CROOKS, HATERS & SOCIALISTS that the majority of the group’s members certainly are.

We must also EXPOSE them as DUPES of Bloomberg & other OUTSIDE OF TEXAS radical leftists.

Completely agree. At what point will some of these activists begin to be considered enemy combatants? If someone attempts to strip another of their freedom, are they not an enemy?
