A Democratic gun-control candidate hailed as the future of the party has found himself in hot water over the last few months as he battles multiple felony charges related to drunk driving, guns, and most recently, trying to smuggle a handcuff key into jail.

Michigan State Rep. Jewell Jones was arrested back in April after crashing his SUV on Interstate 96. Police officers found him drunk, half-naked with a female passenger, and carrying a handgun in the cupholder of his car. A judge released him on bond, but Jones was sent to jail this month after he violated his bond provisions three times.

As he was being booked, officers found a universal handcuff key taped to his foot, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

“This guy is a real piece of work, and an embarrassment to all elected officials, and I believe he thinks somehow the laws do not apply to him,” said Livingston County Sheriff Michael Murphy. “More than that, I am mad. Had the handcuff key ended in an injury to my staff or another inmate I am not sure what I would have done; as my primary responsibility is the safety and security of my staff and inmates.”

Jones is listed on Everytown’s “Gun Sense Voter” website as being “committed to governing with gun sense as a priority.” Jones has campaigned hard against Michigan’s constitutional carry bills, using his experience as a “young black man” to justify his position.

“These bills have absolutely no reason for being in our society,” he said in 2017. “What about the young black and brown men like me who are killed every day? As a young black man who has to read articles in the newspaper and have to see clips on social media and hear interviews on the radio about senseless gun deaths that happen in neighborhoods like mine and yours, near and far across our state, my question is: Why does one right take priority over another?”

Jones had been cited in 2018 for driving with open intoxicants, but his troubles really began on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Witnessed reported to police that an SUV with the license plate “ELECTED” was driving erratically down I-96 at a high rate of speed, WDIV reported at the time.

When police arrived, they found Jones with his pants partially down with a woman whose pants were totally down. Jones’ blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit, and officers were forced to wrestle him to the ground after he refused to identify himself. He reportedly told officers that he controls their department’s budget and threatened to call Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Officers also found a loaded gun in his cupholder.

He’s facing four charges from that incident alone, including resisting and obstructing a police officer, operating a vehicle with a high blood alcohol content and operating while intoxicated, reckless driving, and possession of a weapon while under the influence of alcohol.

A judge released him on bond but sent him to jail five months later after he violated his bond by drinking alcohol, failing to pay for his tether, and trying to put a sock under his ankle monitor in an attempt to tamper with it.

Jones has served in the Army National Guard and is a former member of the Inkster Auxiliary Police Department. He was ordered to surrender any items used in the course of duty by a law enforcement officer, and this week was stripped of all committee assignments in the Michigan legislature.

Back in October of 2020, he posted on Twitter that “WHITE MEN ARE THE SINGLE MOST DANGEROUS THREAT to the safety and security of this country.”

After his latest stunt, Jones is facing additional felony charges, including bringing a weapon into a jail. It is illegal under U.S. law for a convicted felon to possess a firearm.

I really encourage everyone to look into the whole kidnapping the Gov of Michigan. Turns out the FBI had pretty much fabricated the whole thing. Louder with Crowder did a show on this.

A portrait picture of him on the web shows embellishments on the collar of his shirt. This reminds me of a first world attempt at being a ‘sapeur’. Rank, virtue signal, religious affill, what?

  • Markus October 1, 2021, 5:31 pm

Probably the next governor of Michigan..

  • Bryan October 1, 2021, 5:11 pm

Now that’s funny! God I love it when democrats tell US what to do!

This dude wants to be the next Kwame Kilpatrick: Gansta Mayor of Deeetroit.

First 5 to 10 minute segments of local news are usually filled with shooting, robberies, rape, etc., all kinds of felonious activities perpetrated in “certain” neighborhood, by “certain” people onto “certain” people…
Believe it or not, if Kwame is to run again, there’s a good chance he’d be re-elected.

And yes, of course those 6 white dudes are dangerous: They are dangerous to most Detroiters’ income stream had they succeeded. ’cause that Woman-in-Michigan keeps stealing working Michiganders’ income to buy votes.

Please don’t take me seriously. I’m full of sarcasm. 🙂

Ok let’s not jump to conclusions and start blaming the victim here. He was obviously being sexually assaulted by the female. She obviously Cosbied him by forcing him at gunpoint to drink alcohol and then made him drive erratically by trying to steal his vital essence from her Matriarchal position of power in the passenger seat. Where’s your empathy?

I don’t think the average black that carries a gun is doing it legally

  • Jl October 1, 2021, 8:12 am

What a complete POS. And a proud member of shannon twatts POS organization!
And White men are the biggest threat to black and brown ( whatever that is)! Who’s he kidding?

When will he get out? Will it be in time to run for governor of Massachusetts? He’d be a shoe in.

  • Dr Motown October 1, 2021, 7:41 am

Using this idiot’s rationale, all “black and brown people” should be stripped of guns since the VAST majority of those murders are committed by “black and brown people” on “black and brown people.”

Now, should we punish all because of the one or a minority. What if it was said that all whites should be stripped of their gun rights because the vast majority are racist neo nazis? Would that be a fair statement.

Building up his “street cred” to get the “urban” vote?

  • Red Dog September 28, 2021, 7:44 pm

Hey where’s Blue dog he/him? why isn’t he here to educate us on how this is all a big misunderstanding and backing Jewell Jones assertions that white men are the single biggest threat to the United Sates? I’d love to hear he/hims thoughts on it, so that we can understand better, to be able to really listen and to do the work to change everything about us!

    • Blue Dog (he/him) September 29, 2021, 9:44 pm

Aw, thank you for thinking of I/me, Red Dog. I/me know that I/me am normally a river to me/my people but this time, I/me have to let you down. I am centre-left; I believe that the rich should have to pay their fair share; I believe in common sense solutions to gun violence; but I am not a progressive and I break with many of my peers on this hyper-tribal balkanisation. As I was once scolded, I am the kind of racist that thinks everybody should be treated the same.

To your point – it is not the white men that are such a threat; it was their too easily obtained firearms that was a threat. And, you know, bomb making supplies. Diesel and fertiliser, things like that.

Beyond the crass race hustling, Rep. Jones’ comments about daily gun violence in American streets do have some merit and should not be dismissed just because this man is a flawed and sinful human.

This story is one lost dog away from a country song. “Neighbourhood Hope Dealer” would even make a good title.

      • Tim October 1, 2021, 6:56 am

I don’t agree with Blue dogs view on guns but the old boy sure has a sense of humor. That comment was funny! Lol!

      • Armed and Dangerous October 1, 2021, 7:25 am

Well Blue Dog I believe it’s the poor who don’t pay their fair share. The bottom 50% pay 3% of the taxes while the top 1% pay 40% of total income taxes. Does that sound fair to you? Here’s another comparison: While the top 1% hold 15 times the total income of the bottom 50%, they pay 40% of the total income compared to 3% paid by the bottom 50%.
Also if you’re the kind of racist that believes everybody should be treated the same, I’m that same kind of racist. I guess you believe affirmative action is unfair, which it is. I’m white and have been discriminated against because of it. As a contractor I cannot even bid on some state or federal jobs that must go to minority contractors. I could give you many more examples. It’s just wrong.
As far as your “common sense solutions to gun violence, how about this: KEEP CRIMINALS IN PRISON AND QUIT LETTING THEM PLEA BARGAIN AND OUT EARLY. Most are repeat offenders and if kept in prison where they belong would not have the chance to reoffend. Common sense!!

No bluedouche , sadly you’re just another leftist jerkoff that adds nothing to any conversation you’re involved in.

        Kindly fuck off.
