A new “fact sheet” released this week from Everytown for Gun Safety, entitled, “More Than Brawlers: The Proud Boys and Armed Extremism,” provides guidance to lawmakers on how to disrupt domestic extremists from using “firearms to undercut democracy and promote insurrection.”
As one might imagine, some of the recommendations put forth would impact the 2A rights of all law-abiding citizens, not just those individuals who promulgate some radical ideology.
Per the fact sheet:
- The law should prohibit the carrying of firearms in and around sensitive government facilities
- Guns should be prohibited at demonstrations on public property
- Armed extremists must be held accountable under existing laws for their criminal conduct
It also states that a “straightforward way to curb armed intimidation by extremist groups” is to “restrict the open display of firearms, especially during protests or at other public places. Open carry is a threat to public safety and armed extremism demonstrates the folly of open carry laws.”
Open carry is not a threat to public safety. Open carry laws have been around for decades in states around the country and they’ve never led to the Wild-Wild-West-style bloodshed that critics predicted.
Not to mention the fact that banning open carry is infringement. As GunsAmerica referenced before, even The Yale Law Journal agrees on this!
Check out Jonathan Meltzer’s rather exhaustive 2014 analysis entitled, “Open Carry for All: Heller and Our Nineteenth-Century Second Amendment.”
Feel free to read all 42 pages, but the quote from the abstract is telling, “Such a historical examination—guided by the sources, methodology, and logic of Heller—yields two important conclusions: (1) the Second Amendment guarantees a right to carry outside the home, and (2) it guarantees only a right to carry openly.”
We can disagree about the “only” part in Meltzer’s reading but the larger point remains. Banning open carry is infringement! And there’s no way around that.

It’s funny when you read the stupid article of Everytown, calling the Proud Boys right in the beginning a “misogynistic” and “Islamophobic” group, as well as calling all of its members “Western chauvinists”. Yet, this is already a huge contradiction in itself, because if I would be misogynistic, I would absolutely love Islam too, because everyone who has ever read the Quran (and I did) knows that women count as nothing more than birth machines in Islam, while all non-Muslim women even count as slaves, while both parties can be raped by their men/owners at any time and they are not allowed to disobey, otherwise it is the mans right to strike the woman and even imprison her in the bedroom. Plus, when a Muslim man dies, Quran promises him 72 virgins up in Paradise, but at the same time it promises absolutely nothing for dying Muslim women. Seriously, there is no greater misogynistic religion than Islam, which is extremely chauvinistic (and deadly) towards all other religions in the world too. And this trash pile of an article has the power of becoming even more contradicted, when you realize that Everytown is funded by Michael Bloomberg, who himself has Jewish roots, is therefore, according to Jewish law, a Jew and whose people down in Israel killed so many Palestinians for so many years already, which belong, at least when we are talking about the Palestinian majority, to Islam! So, if anyone should be called “Islamophobic” it should be Mr. Bloomberg, the founder of Everytown, himself!
And by the way, most women that support Everytown are Western (white) women, from what I have seen on pictures and in the news for the last few years so far. So, trying to mock Western (white) males means that they just mock members of their own kind, to which their parents, especially their fathers and forefathers, also belong, which are the only reason why these women, who hate their own kind so much, actually exist today. Maybe these women just hate the fact that most of them have accomplished nothing in their lives, but instead of trying to find the reasons for their pitiful lives among themselves, they have decided to turn their hate towards others (just like the guys from the Incel movement) that work hard enough to buy themselves guns and enjoy their freedom, while the members of Everytown hate everyone that has more than they actually have. Therefore, they want to forbid everything and want to make everyone “equal” in this way, which is obviously the main goal of socialism/communism. Yet, in this goal the members and followers of Everytown contradict themselves as well, because being funded by a billionaire, while at the same time trying to throw a socialist/communist agenda onto an entire country and its people, is exactly what is being called hypocrisy, because in a real communist society there would be no money at all and I hardly doubt that Mr. Bloomberg, or any other billionaire in this world, would ever like to give all of his funds away, just for the sake of utopian communism.
My twin brother is a member of the Proud boys. Him and his friends go to churches and protect old peoples cars down in Fresno when Antifa and BLM thugs try to vandalize them. They go to city council meetings and speak out against commy libtard hate speech. They support law enforcement and their local communities. I cannot speak for every member of the group but the men I’ve encountered are Freedom loving Americans. Don’t let the media tell you how to think or what to think. Find out for yourself.

Well, NC is an open carry state with a hitch. Anybody can call the police and claim the “Im afraid” excuse because someone is carrying, and they will come out and see what is going on. Many times the law will tell the complainer it is perfectly legal in this instance, other times they will ask the one carrying to leave and come back with out it, and that can depend on the politics of the lawman too.
Okay so you gave a half dozen or so examples of alleged criminal acts. Out of thousands of Proud Boys doesn’t that make it “mostly peaceful”? Also as far as your number 3 suggestion, no one disagrees that any armed extremist should be held accountable for their criminal acts. Simply carrying open is not a criminal act. What I have a problem with is that EVERYONE should be held accountable for their criminal acts. I saw many Antifa and BLM’s burning, looting, stealing, and assaulting others including cops. These people (or should I say animals) should be held equally accountable.

How about actually charging people with a gun crime when they commit one. NYC charges only 10% of the people that use a gun in a commission of a crime with using a gun during a crime. They drop charges or let the perp plea to a lesser offense for the other 90%.

Antifa has destroyed downtown Portland, BLM rioters have looted a number of cities, yet the tired old trope that these violent incidents were “peaceful” protests raises its hoary head. By the same token, none of the Proud Boys, other than the Capitol incident, are accused of rioting or looting. I watched the film from Charlottesville-and it was Antifa that was attempting to stoke a violent confrontation. Notably, despite all of the openly carried firearms, not one person was shot. Huh. Then there is the not so subtle–and illogical–attack on the NRA: because some Proud Boys are members of the NRA (a so-called direct connection), the NRA must therefore support the Proud Boys. Sorry, but it don’t work that way. I’ve also watched the films concerning the Kyle Rittenhouse incidents (the second two). In the first, he shot and killed someone who was attacking him, and the second he shot and wounded someone who was pointing a Glock at him. The prosecutor knows he doesn’t have a case: he is trying to introduce the alleged backing of the Proud Boys as evidence that Kyle is a violent racist, notwithstanding the fact that everyone he shot was white. I don’t know anything about the PBs issuing misogynistic and Islamophobic tweets, but I thought it rather odd than none were cited in the screed which, given the clear slant and misinformation included, suggesting that none such exist. But whatever. It is also notable that in all of the places where the open carry of firearms was condemned, it was legal for the PBs to do so, a fact conveniently overlooked. Last but not least, it argues that PBs must be held accountable. Given the reports of arrests for various crimes, it would appear that this is the case.
So what is the hysteria and panic? Lack of solid evidence is significant.
I have yet to see one verifiable reason why I should have oppose the “PB’s.” If anyone else can proviode something I will review the evidence.
I am not a supporter of an outright race hating group of any kind. But now, any white person who is a Patriot, flies the flag on his home or vehicle, supports the various 2A groups, is automatically placed in the race hating category. Of course all groups will have their element on the fringe, but that should not color the whole group as is being done. One thing I know for sure, there is no ‘white’ group that is politically correct any more, no matter what their stand. As a white person you cannot be proud of your race, and its accomplishments, you can not have get togethers, you can not promote anything white related, you will be thrown in the white supremacist box.
