Exclusive: Beto O'Rourke Lied, Exaggerated about His Conversations with Gun Show Attendees
Based on accounts from three of the people he spoke with, Beto hasn’t been entirely truthful about the content of his conversations at the gun show in Conway, AR. (Photo: Brian Foster)

To hear Robert “Beto” O’Rourke describe the conversations he had in August at a gun show in Conway, AR., one might be forgiven for wondering whether The Natural State had seen a gun control Renaissance. According to the former Texas Congressman and current 2020 Democratic Presidential candidate, the gun owners he met expressed support for some of the most radical anti-gun policies, including an “assault weapon” buyback program and universal background checks.

The O’Rourke campaign wasted no time capitalizing on the alleged conversations. O’Rourke has mentioned his interactions at rallies and fundraising events, and the campaign used O’Rourke’s visit to the gun show to re-brand their candidate as the Democratic race’s preeminent gun-control activist.

But a GunsAmerica investigation has found that O’Rourke misrepresented and, in some cases, totally fabricated the exchanges he had at the Conway Gun Show on August 17. We spoke with the two men quoted in ABC’s original coverage of the event, and they both take issue with the way their comments have been used and distorted by the O’Rourke campaign.

We also spoke with another vendor at the gun show whose conversation with the candidate was never reported. There’s a reason: in that conversation, O’Rourke revealed his ignorance of the gun buying process even as he proposed a plan to significantly restrict that process.

“Do you support a gun buyback?”

O’Rourke took a break from campaigning following the massacre in his home town of El Paso, and when he returned on August 15, his focus had shifted almost exclusively to gun control.

As he told the New York Times, “I think El Paso reminded me or brought home for me how urgent this situation is out there in the country right now.”

O’Rourke’s campaign was also in dire need of a shot in the arm. The candidate had been polling consistently in the 1-3 percent range, and even Times reporter Mark Leibovich admitted the “entire campaign feels like one giant non-sequitur.”

El Paso gave O’Rourke a focus, and two days after returning to the trail, he walked into the Conway Gun Show, in Conway, Ar.

He spoke with at least three attendees, only two of whom were covered in the original ABC News report. One of those men, Larry Beaver, recognized O’Rourke and walked up to ask, in his words, “Why in the hell are you here? You’re against everything going on here, especially the assault rifles.”

Beaver told GunsAmerica that he had only a brief conversation with O’Rourke. When the candidate mentioned “weapons of war,” Beaver pointed out that anything could be a weapon of war, even one of the knives being sold at the gun show.

O’Rourke soon moved on to other attendees, but a reporter approached Beaver to ask whether he would support O’Rourke’s “assault weapons” buyback program.

Beaver responded “in a sarcastically smart-ass way” that “yes, I would, if the rest of America would do it.”

The reporter failed to hear or willingly ignored Beaver’s tone, and reported instead that Beaver “said he might be willing to support O’Rourke’s assault weapons buy-back plan.”

Beaver flatly denies this construction of his comments.

“No, I’m not giving my guns up. I’m not that guy,” he told GunsAmerica. “Why in the hell would I even be at a gun show looking at an ‘assault rifle’ if I wanted someone to take them from me? Why would he think that I’m the kind of guy who wants to give up my AR-15s and my 551A1 and my AR pistol and my AK-47? It doesn’t make sense.”

Beaver’s larger point, and what he tried to communicate to the reporter, is that even if he did hand over his “assault weapons,” the policy would have no effect on crime.

“I said, it doesn’t matter what you guys try to take away,” Beaver said. “There’s so much hate in this world. People are going to find a way to inflict harm on other people.”

O’Rourke’s version of events is even more off-base than the reporter’s. This is how he described his “conversation” that same evening at the Third Annual Clinton Dinner:

Another voter there, a Trump voter, said, ‘I have an assault weapon.’ He acknowledged that you don’t need that to hunt. You don’t need that for self-defense in your home. That’s a weapon designed for the battlefield. He said, ‘I don’t know if it would do any good, but I would be willing to turn that weapon in if it’s better for this country.’

Beaver doesn’t remember telling either the reporter or O’Rourke that “assault weapons” aren’t needed for hunting or self-defense.

“No, me and Beto didn’t talk about that,” he said. “I don’t hunt with my ARs but I would use my ARs for home defense. My AR is a perfect home defense weapon. But if I was going hog hunting, I would definitely use an AR.”

GunsAmerica reached out to the O’Rourke campaign but has not received a response.

We also contacted the ABC News reporter who spoke with Beaver, Jeffery Cook, to ask for a comment. Cook claims to have audio of his conversation that “proves” his account, but he has not responded to requests to release the audio.

“Do you support universal background checks?”

O’Rourke’s second reported conversation was with a vendor named Preston Linck. Linck is not a federally licensed dealer but had attended the event to sell guns from his personal collection.

ABC News reported that Linck “supports closing the so-called gun-show loophole and requiring background checks for all gun sales.”

O’Rourke’s comments have gone even further: “The guy said, ‘I shouldn’t be able to sell guns at this show.’ Literally. He said, ‘That’s not right.’ That guy believes in universal background checks.”

GunsAmerica spoke with Linck, who admitted that he did tell O’Rourke that, as a private seller, he is not required to perform background checks. But he takes issue with the idea that he “supports” universal background checks. He told us that he would abide by any new background check law that Congress passes, but he wouldn’t advocate for the policy.

“Support is too strong a word,” he said. “I want us to continue to have gun shows. I’m not for them making everyone do a background check. But if they’re going to make us do that, I’ll do it.”

Linck describes himself as non-political. He said he didn’t know O’Rourke’s gun policies before he spoke with him, and he simply answered O’Rourke’s questions as truthfully as he could.

But he unequivocally denies saying, “I shouldn’t be able to sell guns at this show.”

“Of course I didn’t say that. I would like to be able to sell guns,” he told us.

“A Forty-Four Seventy What?”

O’Rourke had at least one additional conversation during his visit to Conway. It wasn’t reported by ABC News, but an image of the discussion was seen by thousands of people on Twitter and on the home page of the New York Times.

Brian Foster is the man speaking with O’Rourke in the image that the candidate tweeted after leaving the gun show. Foster is a concealed handgun license instructor and a licensed dealer, and on that day, he was having a sale: AR-15’s for $395.

Foster told GunsAmerica that O’Rourke was introduced to him by Arkansas State Sen. Denise Garner, and O’Rourke’s campaign staffers soon began taking pictures even though they had been told by the gun show organizers that pictures weren’t permitted.

“Nobody wanted him there,” Foster said. “We just thought he was there to cause trouble, and he was, by lying and making all these statements he’s made.”

Foster thinks he spoke with O’Rourke longer than anyone, and his conversation revealed O’Rourke’s ignorance of the basic requirements of American firearm law.

The Arkansas man told O’Rourke that if he really wanted to reduce gun-related crime, he should start with the people who try and fail to pass a background check. To make his point, he asked O’Rourke, “Do you know what it takes to buy a firearm from a licensed federal firearms dealer like me?”

O’Rourke responded, “No, I do not.”

SEE ALSO: Robert ‘Beto’ O’Rourke: ‘Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47’

Foster walked O’Rourke through the process, starting with Form 4473 and ending with the three possible outcomes of a background check. The only element with which O’Rourke seemed to be familiar was the name of the instant background check system (NICS), and he appeared not to know whether federal and state law enforcement investigate those who fail a background check.

“I asked, ‘Do you know what happens with these denied background checks?’’’ Foster recalled. “He said, ‘No.’ I said, ‘Nothing.’ So, he gets a curious look on his face.”

“We’re not doing anything with these denials,” Foster continued. “If you want to keep guns off of the streets, out of the hands of criminals, then you have to do something with these denials. They have criminal intent because they’re trying to purchase a firearm, and they’re hoping it doesn’t get caught.”

O’Rourke’s ignorance of the law hasn’t stopped him from attempting to change it. Only days before attending the gun show in Conway, O’Rourke released a massive slate of gun control proposals, which would restrict law-abiding gun owners at nearly every stage of the purchasing process.

According to Foster, O’Rourke asked to keep a copy of a 4473. It was, apparently, the first time he’d ever seen one.

Foster believes he speaks for everyone at the gun show when he expresses his disappointment with the way O’Rourke and his staff used the candidate’s conversations to imply support for his gun control policies.

“He twisted what we said. He didn’t care about hearing anything,” Foster said. “He didn’t care about sharing his opinion. He didn’t share his opinion with me at all, other than that he wanted total gun registration. It was like a stab in the back. We in good faith engaged in conversation with him, and he acted like a typical crybaby liberal who lied about what was said and twisted anything that was said.”

O’Rourke’s stunt and subsequent focus on a radical gun-control agenda hasn’t given him the bump he expected. According to the most recent surveys, he’s still polling in seventh place, in the 1-3 percent range.

Beta twink, try a missouri gun show!
It will be exciting! I got $20 says you won’t leave on your feet

Just in case you haven’t noticed, Democrats do not have to tell the truth. To them, lying for the “greater good” is considered a virtue. Of some of the more recent lies: I did not have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinski. I invented the internet. I threw my war medals over the White House fence. I can prove I’m of Native American heritage. 90% of all Americans support “common sense gun safety laws.” I don’t know where all those emails went.

  • MR October 7, 2019, 2:38 pm

They say it’s absolutely impossible to round up all the criminals who are here illegally but can round up all the legally owned firearms. Somebody’s lying.

  • Paul October 7, 2019, 1:43 pm

The whole problem here is that as gun owners we are forced to stay covert which in itself suggest a darker purpose…..What people need to start doing is get friends and relatives out to the range and show them that guns are not evil bad things. Who knows if you get one person to go and he talks to several other people and says “hey I know a guy who is a pretty nice person, he owns a gun and he’s not like what we are being told he is” maybe that will slow the fear that people are programmed to feel. The other thing is to let people know that criminals are not the good people that the media is trying to make them out to be and that they are the problem! A defensive weapon is not a weapon of war period!

I shook a politician’s hand once. Felt dirty the rest of the day.

  • Phil in TX October 7, 2019, 12:21 pm

What a surprise! A Democrat politician that supports gun control talked with several folks at a gun show in Arkansas and then twisted their words in every report he made to the press. This piece of garbage is only trying to resurrect his dead Presidential hopes. The voters of Texas sent him packing. This gasbag isn’t fit to be a dogcatcher or any type of public “servant”. Robert Francis, go home, sit down and shut up. We ain’t buyin’ what you’re sellin”.

Very true, but the problem with roaches like him, is that they just won’t go away. They are career politicians who stay in it until they finally get elected or appointed to some position. They are the weasel infiltraitors bent on taking over. Most of them are useless at anything else, and are mentally ill in some way, and unfortunately, politics is the perfect place for them.

  • JonsOn October 7, 2019, 11:12 am

Typical democrat. If it doesn’t fit your narrative make stuff up, misquote, and fabricate. O’Dork is a terrible candidate and will hopefully end his pathetic campaign soon. Here’s to freedom and 2nd amendment which was written with the type of person O’dork is in mind.

  • Zupglick October 7, 2019, 10:24 am

One question. Has Beto ever actually worked for a living?

  • KimberproSS October 7, 2019, 9:57 am

I wish Foster would have said, Here, let me demonstrate how the process works and had O’Rourk fill out the 4473 and him run a background check. Then he could have called security over and claim this guy is a felon, failed the background check. Let Beto see what happens in the process. Hopefully the security would run him through the wringer.

  • rick moss October 5, 2019, 11:14 pm

The point that gets me is that even supporters of gun rights and gun lovers will say or let people in the dark say assault rifles. Unless you have a class three rifle ,what we have is a rifle. Period. No different than any other rifle. We should correct any person calling the AR platform an assault rifle. Always. No exceptions. Likewise the catch phrase , guns of war .

  • Arne Pederson October 5, 2019, 6:54 pm

I read he is a felon. If true, should he have been at the gun show?

  • Michael Keim October 4, 2019, 8:17 pm

The only thing you should say to a reporter or a politician is “FUCK YOU”

    • Ronnie Pigg October 6, 2019, 7:24 am

Don’t even say that. They will claim it’s a threat of violence.
I have one question for all people in this great country. Do you really believe that the Government can buy back or take all the “Modern Sporting Rifles” also know as AR15 from all the armed citizens in this great country?
Think about it. How many millions of AR15 have been sold in the US. How many were bought, sold or traded for other goods or services? Who owns what?
      Who fooling Who!
Just remember one thing. According to gov. statistic shows that the US citizens own 4 times as many small arms as are Military.
Just passing a law is one thing. Enforcing it another.

  • J October 4, 2019, 6:07 pm

This information will certainly not make mainstream news outlets. Just think of the really reporting the facts for once would shock us all. He should be accountable for what he said after what the people he questioned actually said and meant. Big question is, Where is that tape from ABC showing what the people said? I bet it got lost somewhere.

  • bjg October 4, 2019, 4:13 pm

Typical lying democrat! Just like all democrats a born liar.

    • Rodney O. Patton October 7, 2019, 6:10 am

Part of the problem is we to easily throw labels on people. I am a registered Democrat and an NRA member. I fully support the 2nd Amendment. In discussions with others including friends I do not use the term “assault rifle or weapons of war”, I refer to my AR-15 as a modern sporting rifle. If you have a discussion with a politician from either party, a news reporter or someone you don’t know take out your cell phone and make your own copy of the event. Then you can state the facts with proof and do not have to resort to name calling to make your point. When we stoop to their level the truth gets lost.

      • Justin Burd October 8, 2019, 4:25 pm

Very well said, sir. I have always maintained that people who are afraid of or hate guns are either ignorant or immature in the way they think. I’m always offering folks of the liberal persuasion to come to the range some day and let me teach them how to shoot, the fundamentals of gun safety and marksmanship. I’m a registered independent, didn’t vote for trump in the last election and probably won’t vote for him in 2020, but I’ll be damned if the liberals think they’re going to show up at my house and demand that I hand over all my evil black guns. You are living proof that it is possible to be a Democrat and still love America and fully support and defend the constitution.

  • Mauser6863 October 4, 2019, 2:55 pm

Been interviewed by the media twice, both times were gun related, as I worked in a gun shop. The first, was specifically about, the city of Pasadena California wanting to register ammo buyers, like we used to do in the bad old days. The Feds realized it was a waste of time and wouldn’t ever work, so they dropped it, waste of time and money. The entire interview was 45 minutes and it never make it to air time.

The 2nd time they interviewed me about the federal assault weapon ban and ran the first 5 seconds of a 30 minute interview and then dumped it after one broadcast. Even back then, the media had an agenda and only hears what it wants to.

Today if they asked me for anything, I would refuse and call them what they are, fake news and corrupt. Even if you say, 100% the right thing, they will delete, edit and misrepresent what you say or don’t say. If you have to talk to them, record the interview yourself and post the entire exchange yourself, on social media to expose their lies.

  • Drew October 4, 2019, 1:01 pm

To all these assholes who want to take my guns from me I say “would that have prevented timothy mcveigh? Would it have stopped the psycho who drove a truck into the crowd in Nice, France and killed 80? I also say “come try and take them. I promise to uphold and protect the 2A with EXTREME PREJUDICE.” How does them killing even several people justify them preventing the 500,000-3,000,000 defensive uses of a firearm reported by the CDC study during obama’s reign as dictator? My family’s been here since the 1540’s. Just like my Great Great Great Great….. Grandfather told the British in 1776, “GO FUCK YOURSELVES.”

LOL a politician who lied! The Orange in the White House lies as often as he moves his lips. Stop pretending to be fair-minded. Attack Beto for his positions all you like but stop being hypocritical. If you’re not attacking the President daily for his various vulgarities and lies, etc then stop pointing it out in others.

    • Archie Bennett March 6, 2020, 5:41 am

Trump is brash. He is a politician. I would not have him for a friend. However, he does what he says he will, and he is the only non anti gun candidate available to us this time around. He must have all of our support. The stakes are too high for anything less. I can criticize him, i can sometimes wish he would just shut up, but we all must vote for him!

Liberals do not understand sarcasm, they can’t read facial gestures, they don’t get innuendo, the only joke they will laugh at is one that has a Christian or a gun owner in the punch line. When asked a question about buy back, don’t ever be funny or wise cracky, don’t say no to buy back, say hell no loud and clear. There is nothing to deduce from a short and simple answer other than ‘hell no’.

    • Terry October 4, 2019, 1:09 pm

They understand them just fine. The problem is STUPID gunowners that rely on it to get a point across thinking they are oh so cute and funny, and then they quoted, and say “But wait! my tone!”

Gun owners need STOP thinking they are oh so funny and ANSWER THE QUESTIONS DIRECTLY AND STRAIGHT FORWARD.

YOU CAN NOT BE “MISQUOTED” IF YOU DON’T GIVE THEM THE WORDS!

The reporters and press, etc. are EXPERTS at taking things out of context and taking things literal.

SO QUIT GIVING THEM AMMUNITION. You aren’t being cute, you aren’t being funny, you are being STUPID and giving them ACTUAL quotes to use.

      JUST STOP.

    • Rattlerjake October 4, 2019, 1:53 pm

When will people learn to keep their BIG MOUTHS SHUT! There is no value in talking with a leftist, they are stupid, ignorant, and brain dead. They have no intelligence and definitely no common sense. They lemmings who are trying to take the rest of us with them over the cliff!

Gee whiz, Wally! Don’t you think America, with it’s honest and forthright politicians could make Socialism work in the land of the free and home of the brave? After all, if we can’t trust our elected officials, who can we trust? Well Beav, I would rather trust a crank ho or water moccasin than our elected officials, they are truly Satan reincarnate. Agreed Floyd, it is hard to believe how stupid these people really are. They actually believe that this time would be different, probably just like the Venezuelans.

  • millionth counsel October 4, 2019, 11:14 am

Lesson learned; when asked or when making comments against gun bans / anti gun legislation, do not use sarcastic comments. If you do the media will use it against you no matter how ridiculous the comment was.

I wonder if the the promoter /manager of the gun show could have requested him to leave or even barred him entry due to him being a political agitator on second amendment rights.

Pro-rights people have got to quit saying we should prosecute people who fail a background check. In principle they are correct but according to John Lott around 95 or 99% of these initial denials are “false positives.” Thus thousands of law abiding citizens will be hassled by the police or FBI because their name is similar to someone in the database. Perhaps they will even be “red flagged.”

It’s my guess that every gun owner in America heard Robert O’Rourke’s story and immediately smelled BS. No attendee or vendor at a gun show is going to utter anything near what O’Rourke insisted he heard, let alone lack any sort of dissent to his assertions. The only people who absolutely need to read this bit of investigative journalism are the ones who won’t.

This lefty has been privileged his entire life, if not for his father who was a sitting judge at the time he got both of his arrests (drunk driving, hit and run and burglary) he would have spent time in jail instead of having all charges dismissed! Non of us schlepps or normal Americans would have gotten the same treatment..

You know when democrats speak of “WHITE PRIVILEGE” they are directly referring to the only thing they know, their sons, daughters and family like Francis “Beto” here who is a another loser son of another grimy democrat politician who got a leg up via their now never ending corruption. Kerry’s “Hienz” step son SAME! Pay for play Joe Biden’s Son AND brother SAME! Crooked Hillary’s Daughter Chelsea SAME! Speaker Pelosi’s son SAME! The list goes into just about every dem’s family from what I have seen so far. From a leg up getting into the best lefty college even if they weren’t qualified, to BILLIONS of our tax dollars in out and out crime subverting our country. Mr. Frasconi’s previous comment, while a bit course toward a possibly politically illprepared gun-show attendees, was correct. This fight for our rights is nothing short of critical. Its the fight for world domination. Read up on Agenda 21 and 2030. Via the United Nations, the powers that be, the powers of the yet unseen world government, are planning total global control. Read the documents. Its all right in front of our eyes. It’s there for all to see. If one will only take the time away from “being entertained” or watching the latest reality TV show. The progressive democratic party has finally removed the mask allowing them to be seen for who they are…the enemy of a free people. Make no mistake, many on the republican side of the Isle are the same. They are just still standing behind there masks. If we are to remain free and with our Constitutional form of government, these “progressive” forces must be defeated. There is no comprimising with tyrants. We must defeat them at the ballot box. If freedom is to survive…we MUST drain the swamp completely! Vote them out of office at the local, state, and federal levels! If we don’t we lose everything…and I mean everything!

  • smiwee October 4, 2019, 8:25 am

Gee, can anyone think of anybody else who distorts and fabricates every conversation they have?
    I ‘ll wait.
    I m thinking, I m thinking………

    • Justista October 4, 2019, 9:23 am

Sure, Pelosi, Shiff, Cortez, Cuomo, Harris, Biden, Sanders and CLINTON!

    • Russ October 4, 2019, 9:33 am

Yes I can. Each current and former democrat in the last 12 years. They all told lies in the run up to obama to assuage their white guilt. Then because the hate President Trump. I have always said if a democrats mouth is open, they are lying.

      • Phil in TX October 7, 2019, 12:33 pm

Sure. Every Democrat and some that call themselves Republicans since at least 1968 (original GC Act). It goes way back before that, but I was young then and not paying attention like I do now.

  • Todd October 4, 2019, 8:24 am

Lying gets you no where Beto. I believe you need to go have a mental evaluation done.

  • C.Meredith October 4, 2019, 8:12 am

Beto, Beto, Beto. What goes on inside the mans head. It appears that his mind is filled with a fantasy theme park of some sort. Reality doesn’t play a part in running the show in his life. I guess that instead of all these observations of the man it would be much simpler to just say “he is a typical Democrat” because that means the same thing and much more. Sad but true today, discribed as a Democrat is basically being called à liar, a thief, a very dishonest person. Professional career politicians of any party have never been much better then lawyers or used car sellsmen in my eyes but since 2016 or so Democrat politicians have dropped off the charts in terms of being bad people. I would not trust one as dog catcher much less running the government. The really sad, bad part of all this crap in D.C. today is the Democrats I guess think they are the best thing to ever come along to run this nation. They just ignore anyone who thinks differently or calls them names like racist or bigot. I think they truly believe they are good for America. That is the rank and file guys feel that way. The Dem. Party leaders know it is all about gaining power over our government so they can pass the laws that will make the crap they do legal. To the leaders power and control 8s what it is all about. They don’t care about public safety or lower taxes or the national economy. Its all about steal the oval office, control the House and Senate, and push conservatives off the Supreme Court so they can fill it with judges who will jump when told to jump. If that all ever happens you can kiss the U.S.Constitution, especially the Bill of Rights, kiss it all good bye forever. It will cost a very dear price to ever get it back, if we ever do get it back. Freedom is expensive and I fear the price of our freedom is about to go up, way up. If you don’t know or have trouble figuring the cost of our freedom, there is a simple way to see what has been paid so far so you can be free. Take a slow drive through any of our National Memorial Cemeterys. There are many of them scattered across America. There you will see row after row after row of neatly arranged little white crosses and stars and other religious simbols. Thank whatever God you believe in the politically correct ding bats have not invaded cemeteries, yet, with their mess. Unfortunately there is lots of room left in those cemeteries and if the Democrats ever get control of our góvernment I fear those cemeteries and others will be filled quickly. Then again that might be the plan. Destroy America from within. Then move in and take over without firing a shot. Most people alive in this country don’t remember but that was (is?) the plan of Communist Party leaders from the 1950’s on. That’s not theory, young people, the Russian leaders have openly bragged about it. Oh, bye the way Democrats out there, you know your party is now owned and controlled be a non American who hates our country and our people and has bragged openly about how he is going to change America to what he thinks it should be.

    • E October 4, 2019, 4:36 pm

It goes further back than that. Antonio Gramsci started that crap in the mid 1900s (others before him in Germany had that in mind but he was more concrete and aggressive in carrying out his agenda). He later drew up a blueprint to corrupt the US, which has occurred by various means throughout these last centuries. You can actually see the list that he wrote to carry out his diabolical plan. Pornography, eradicating religion, and the destruction of the family were some of the ways that he planned to corrupt this society. All in the name of communism.

  • Dr Motown October 4, 2019, 7:58 am

Throwing around terms interchangeably like \’assault rifles\’ and \’assault weapons\’ shows how some of our own side have become our worst enemies. NEVER talk to a politician unless you know what you\’re talking about yourself

    • Perfect answer doesn't exist October 4, 2019, 11:15 am

Precisely. If the first guy had said, “Sure, I’ll give mine up when all levels of government gives up theirs.” Instead of “the rest of America”, it would have been harder to misconstrue and better, but still wrong.

  • Mark October 4, 2019, 7:51 am

OK folks. Let’s stop letting those on the left control this conversation. Don’t accept their definitions. ANY rifle used to assault someone is an “assault rifle” whether its reservoir (clip or magazine, or just the chamber) holds 1, 5, or 50 rounds. What it LOOKS like is completely immaterial. And if it’s criminals they’re worried about, rifles shouldn’t even be on their radar. Rifles are used in — what? 1% of crimes? Let’s worry about the 99% first and THEN we can clean up the leftovers.

Secondly, let’s all remember that the Second Amendment isn’t there to assure that you can protect your home, or hunt for food, or defend against hostile Indians. It is there for one purpose: It is a vital (and the final) check on the power of an out of control, tyrannical federal government. It preserves the ability of the people to exercise their right to “alter or abolish” (In the words of the Declaration of Independence) any form of government that has become destructive of their God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (among others).

If the government gets to choose what law-abiding citizens can and can’t own a gun, then the Second Amendment is completely emasculated. Those who are convicted of felonies lose their civil rights — that’s too bad, but if you do the crime, you do the time. But for those of us who aren’t criminals — we’re the ones who are the final guardians of the freedoms that define America. Without the Second Amendment, properly understood and applied to eliminate the power of the government to control firearm ownership, our last line of defense against the normal state of man — living subject to a tyrant — is gone.

    • Alan1018 October 4, 2019, 8:09 am

And there is no such thing as gun violence. Inanimate objects are incapable of being violent. Violent criminals may choose a gun as their tool but the criminal is violent, not the tool.

      • R S von Ravensberg October 4, 2019, 10:09 am

        THANK YOU ALAN 1018!

        Absolutely correct!

Why anyone would think Beto O’Dork would be honest is beyond me.

    • Firegoat02 October 4, 2019, 1:12 pm

      ABSOLUTELY
I wished that we leaders as insightful as you are.
They would understand that the 2A is a critical part of our constitution, and is the one that secures our freedom as much as any other segment of life in the US.
I hope and pray that there are many more patriots that believe this deep enough to not alow the enemies of our country to succeed in destroying our way of life.
I believe that these liberals do understand how important the 2A is, and that’s why they are fighting it so hard, because without taking it down, they will never succeed to the level of power they are dreaming of.
The Republicans need to understand that too.

  • George October 4, 2019, 7:39 am

Democrats have built their image on Lies…It’s now come back to haunt them….2020 Show Democrats the door America.

  • Alan1018 October 4, 2019, 7:21 am

They only lie to us for our own good. They know they are so much smarter than we deplorables and they know what is best for us.

  • Blasted Cap October 4, 2019, 7:15 am

Oh no, the shock, oh my gosh. You mean a politician lied, twisted someone else’s words and mis-represented themselves. The shock, the sorrow. My heart’s all a twitter.

That’s what they get paid for. To lie, cheat, and steal more of our hard earned money.

  • DAVID MILLER October 4, 2019, 7:11 am

Missed opertunity should have had him fill out form for purchase then be denied for his burglry and DUI convictions

  • Robert Frasconi October 4, 2019, 6:39 am

Thank you for an insightful report.

To me, the thing that stands out most from the article is not O’Rourke’s anti-gun stance, ignorance, or lies; it is the gullibility of those who engaged with him.

    Politicians lie, cheat, and steal.

    Politicians trample rights every day.

What did these rubes expect that O’Rourke would do with their comments, other than twist them and lie about them?

Wake up, stupid! You are in a war for your inherent rights against forces who mean to subjugate you.

These forces mean to kill off the U.S. Constitution and make America a globalist-controlled, Communist hellhole. Big Tech Mass surveillance, a Chinese Social Credit system, forced vaccines, climate change taxes, self-driving transportation you rent (not own), Agenda 21/2030, forced microchipping, etc.

To enslave you and your posterity, these forces must first disarm you.

  • stelam78 October 4, 2019, 5:44 am

Beto can come for my guns… but he’d better bring his first.

    • TB October 4, 2019, 9:07 am

Beto won’t come for our guns. He’ll send his police equipped with military weapons (aka Waco),

      • Alan1018 October 4, 2019, 9:44 am

That is why they are pushing red flag laws so hard. So the police are desensitized to conducting gun raids.

    • drxtm October 4, 2019, 3:17 pm

      Isn’t he a felon?

  • Randall October 4, 2019, 5:12 am

Of course Beto Doesnt know and frankly doesnt care about gun laws.
He is all about totally disarming Americans
All these Democrats are about Disarming Americans they want to globalize and socialize America!!

  • SeppW October 3, 2019, 7:19 pm

This sort behavior and conduct of a known slacker and card-carrying member of the incapable and unproductive guild should come as no surprise. These anti-gun sorts will lie, tell half-truths, and use faux statistics to push their anti-gun agenda. Like his counterparts on the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees that manipulate and re-interpret the truth to fit the narrative.
