Exit Polling Shows This Candidate to Be The Strongest on Gun Control

Yes, the headline of this article is to entice you to guess who it is I’m referring to. Who, of all the candidates running for president in 2016 inspires the most confidence in voters that he or she (hint, hint, hint) will do whatever it takes to curtail the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners?

If you guessed Trump — well, you’d be wrong. If you guessed Bernie Sanders — well, you’d also be wrong. Because the candidate that won on gun control, according to exit polling in South Carolina, was none other than Hillary Clinton!

Surprise! Surprise!

Clinton dominated South Carolina in the Democratic Primary, crushing Sanders by a near 48-point margin, beating the self-described “democratic socialist” with 73.5 percent of the vote compared to his 26 percent.

On gun control, which figured to be an important issue for some following the mass killing in Charleston last year, voters who favored reducing gun violence over protecting gun rights (81 percent of Democratic voters felt this way) chose Hillary by a 50 percent margin.

One of the voters, Graham Holson from Edgefield, S.C., claimed to have “tons of guns – handguns, rifles, you name it,” in an interview with C.S. Monitor. Holson, who also said he had a concealed carry, permit spoke about the gun problem in the U.S.

“As a country we’re becoming a cultural no-man’s-land where every house is a militia, and that’s not good,” said Holson, a Sanders supporter. “Also, I don’t understand these banana clips that are this long – I have no need to kill 20 people in 20 seconds.”

Holson was described as a “twenty-something” with a “jacked-up white pickup truck with a goofy pit bull riding shotgun.” I know what you’re thinking, does this guy even exist? Was he made up by this publication to pepper up their article with anti-gun rhetoric?  Is he a government shill?

Assuming that he isn’t a fictitious character but is, in fact, a real human being, all I can say is this young man is a bit ignorant on gun culture. Starting with the obvious, the use of the word “clips” in describing standard-capacity magazines is a telltale sign that he doesn’t get it, especially for a dude with “tons of guns.”

Then, there is the implication that the size of the magazine determines the speed and the accuracy in which one shoots. Another myth. I’d much rather have a reliable shooter by my side with a limited-capacity firearm, e.g. Jerry Miculek with a six-shot revolver, than an inexperienced shooter with an AR-15 and a 30-round magazine. Sure capacity is important, but it isn’t the end-all-be-all when it comes to speed and accuracy. Experience matters.

Finally, the young man’s complaint that “every house is a militia” is disturbing. If he knew the text of the Second Amendment and had a proper understanding of the history of the U.S., chances are he wouldn’t lament the fact that more and more households are becoming well-armed. He would embrace it. He would encourage it. He would recognize that what protects us from the biggest existential threat to our existence — government tyranny — is our 2A rights.

Alas! He doesn’t. He just doesn’t get it. And, sadly, I bet he’s not the only confused voter out there. There are probably millions of gun owners who feel that Hillary or Bernie’s “reasonable” and “common-sense” stance on guns is what this country needs. I’ll I can say at this point, and I guess I can’t be emphatic enough about it, be careful what you wish for guys and gals, be careful what you wish for!

Screw the Democratic Party.. It is not the Party of our Grandparents. It has become infected with Socialists/Marxists/ Communists & an assortment of special interest groups. They must be stopped if our Constitution is to survive.

There is no “gunshow loophole” there are only FFLs and private sellers. There is no “Charleston loophole” the gov’t didn’t enter in that dingleberries felony conviction. No fly list bans are completely unconstitutional.
The “evil gun lobby” isn’t even in the top 50 for overall campaign contributions. Online sales of firearms are required to go through an FFL (unless both parties are citizens of the same state, do a private sale, and state law doesn’t require a background check.)
“No one is coming for our guns.” Yet Hildabeast advocates for Australian style bans and confiscation, and openly says the supreme court was wrong on Heller. Magazine limitations are arbitrary and pointless. AWBs are just plain fucking stupid. And the 2nd ain’t there because we won our independence from the hordes of deer.

These two scum clowns running for president don’t deserve to even live in this Country, what more run for president. Hillary should be ban to North Korea, and Sanders to Cuba. Their followers can FOLLOW them.

I live at the 7,000 ft alt in Eastern Lake Tahoe and have a revolver on my hip to walk the dogs or hike in the mountains. We see packs of coyotes, bobcats, bears and very seldom mountain lions but they are here. Our Priest once asked at a mass how many of our parishioners were armed and 11 men one woman stood up. He thanked them and said he new who he could count on. I see between four to six pistols on hips in stores in Carson City regularly. Guns are for defense/personal protection but hunting is a very satisfying pastime as well. I’m amazed at times with the ignorance of some of my friends/relatives about guns mainly because they have NO KNOWLEDGE of guns. Many never ever had a gun in their hands in their life yet talk about eliminating all privately owned guns. Gun free zones are easy pickings for criminals!

“Former Marine” well said sir; just one small error- “Baba Yar” (means ‘grandma’s ditch’ in Russian) was where German SS Einsatzgruppen (ironically their initials SD look EXACTLY like Scooby Doo’s dog tag- no kidding look it up!)
Murdered like 71,000 Jews there in late 1941)
Other than small indiscretion I agree 100%.

What some politicians don’t realize is that “many” of us will die rather than give up our guns… literally. We will fight to the death to preserve our God-given, fundamental, natural, unalienable, Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. That is very serious!

    • BJG March 5, 2016, 3:13 pm

      You got that right!

  • Pablo Marchany Sr. March 4, 2016, 4:28 pm

If the Gov. think I’m turning in my AR 15, they better go and buy one cause I’m not doing it. With all this new individuals coming from the Middle East, and ISIS so close. NO !!! My gun is to keep my family safe…..Sorry !!!

I can completely believe the gentleman in this article exists. Millennials are one of, if not the, fastest growing gun buying demographics in the country. They didn’t grow up with the constant barrage of gun & gang violence promulgated on us by the media during the 80’s & 90’s like those of us from Generation X did & they didn’t witness that as the erosion of a great society like the Baby Boomers perceived it to be so they don’t see a problem with owning guns, even a “ton” of them.
The problem (and I caveat this is a generalization but it fits most millennials) is they’ve also been inundated with media misinformation on guns & those of is who are older aren’t doing anything to correct them. Instead of explaining calming to them what the difference between a clip & a magazine is we huff at their ignorance & walk away.
Sure they love guns, but they also don’t understand why someone would need more than seven shots to kill a deer. They don’t realize just because a rifle has a “military” appearance, it isn’t an assault rifle. They don’t understand why you would want more than a 10 round magazine for a semi-automatic handgun. After all, target ammunition generally comes in 50 rounds boxes & that’s 5 nicely loaded magazines to go to the range with (they don’t understand the concept of speed reloading), after all, like Uncle Joe said, a double barreled shotgun is the perfect home defense weapon. How many of them have actually had to defend anything with record low crime rates & the lowest rate of overall military service in the history of America.
They also haven’t been taught history so they don’t understand how this infringes on 2A. To them guns are something to have fun with, target shoot & hunt with, or a talisman against the perceived evils of the world, but nobody needs a “banana clip” in an “assault rifle” to kill the boogeyman (and most of these kids didn’t have grandparents who taught them about Baba Yaga, or whatever your ethnicities version is). The last part is tongue in cheek, but my point being they don’t understand true evil.
We expect them to educate themselves but we forget before the internet we had to seek out older & wiser mentors if we wanted to learn anything. We need to be those mentors for the younger generation. We can’t just sluff off our responsibility to them by saying they can look it up themselves & we didn’t have the internet, they’re spoiled, et al.
Let’s face it, we have young men like this article referenced because of this. If we don’t teach these kids the difference between a clip & a mag, what a squib is & why just because it’s on the internet doesn’t make it true, who will?

It does not surprise me that Hillary, the Evil, wins this contest, hands & hoofs down! It sure as hell is not Ted Cruz, a rock ribbed Constitutional Conservative all the way.

    • Jon Williams March 4, 2016, 3:22 pm

A person would have had to be living in a cave for the last 40 years to not have known Cliton was anti-gun….duh!

      • Larry March 4, 2016, 4:52 pm

        Yep!

  • Boris March 4, 2016, 11:18 am

Hillary does well at lulling people into a false sense of security. Perhaps she should give up her security detail. When you keep chipping away at the iceberg, eventually it will disappear without anyone noticing. This is what she plans to do with your Constitutional rights. She believes in the Australian model which resulted in confiscation and a resultant increase in violent crime. Criminals by definition do not abide by law. They do not use common sense, decency, or compassion when they victimize you. Taking a law abiding persons gun, regulating what style they can have, or how many bullets they can load into a magazine will not deter the criminal who preys upon you. It only makes the criminals job easier.

I find it disturbing that so many Americans are ignorant of the purpose of the second amendment. Our founding fathers had the foresight to realize that any government could become tyrannical. Our only protection from tyranny is the right to bear arms. We have a powerful military that would be a force we would have to face if the armed forces sided with the government, but there are many of us. If we loose our gun rights and are no longer armed we are at the mercy of a tyrannical government. I hope more people could understand this simple fact.

  • Tripwire March 4, 2016, 11:07 am

After watching way too many debates and watching the media do all they can to make them look worse than they are I’ve decided that out of the entire field I believe Cruz is the only one that will do what he says he will do, I’m not a fundamentalist anything and do wish he and the rest would curb the religion a lot but still I think Cruz means what he says, he has guts and will fight fire with fire, who else in either party has had the guts to call the head of his party a liar on the Senate floor when in fact that person is a liar and a sell out, I prefer a man who says what he means right out in the open and doesn’t fall back on legalese or PC speech.

  • Bill Graves March 4, 2016, 10:26 am

Face it folks. The younger folks among us are dumbed down already. I know a young man in his early thirties (here in Western Washington State) that has a Masters degree in education and teaches high school English. We were discussing the current Presidential race, and he has no idea what all the hoopla is about with the primaries, debates, and delegates. I asked him if he studied any of this in high school civics or US Government classes when he went to high school. He told me there were no such classes offered in his high school. He has no idea about the political process in his own country. He has very little knowledge of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, or the Magna Charta. Those are just terms that he hears about, nothing more. It is no small wonder that many young people are so easily duped by politicians.

    • hey March 4, 2016, 10:34 pm

You are exactly right, each generation are becoming more ignorant as a result of a passive thought public education system that teaches no critical thinking skills, having the need for someone to tell them what to think and do. Not to mention absolutely no information concerning government, laws, money, economics and history that matters. Our nation is under the influence of communist acts in all of those subjects.

  • Zach March 4, 2016, 7:59 am

I have no problem with better background checks. I do have a problem with our “leaders” telling us what constitutes an acceptable firearm. If I want to own assult weapons then so be it. I personally own several and enjoy them for the look, feels, fire rate, etc. I have not, nor intend on killing another human with them. To be told that’s all they are good for only one thing , is missing the point of owning and shooting these great weapons. I don’t hunt either, I’m strictly a target shooter. So I like to shoot what I like to shoot. I watched the videos on the snatch and grab Gun shop robbery and it demonstrates the fact that criminals will obtain guns weather we want them to or not. Gun control will only hurt the innocent law biding citizen , not the dirt bag criminal. Shame on the law makers for band wagoning this important and sensitive subject.

    • JS March 4, 2016, 9:09 am

So if I read your post right, you have bought in to the media’s definition of what is called an “assault weapon”. This is a term created by a biased media to denigrate gun owners that have semi-auto rifles of the AR type. Unless you own Class III weapons, you do not have “assault weapons”. You merely have semi-auto rifles. I too have semi-auto rifles, but I don’t have “assault weapons”; not since I left the Army. I don’t mean to be sarcastic, but this terminology needs to be put in the trash with all the other PC garbage. I am also a former police officer that thinks everyone should be armed for self-defense. Otherwise, I like your post and appreciate the fact that you are a target shooter, as am I. I also deer hunt for our table.

    • joe March 4, 2016, 9:11 am

You “reasonable” gun owners who like background checks are naive – both in your understanding of how government works and your understanding of a right.

      • Ernie March 4, 2016, 11:24 am

These are lies. No one ever asks for validation of these so called polls or statistics. No one has asked you, have they? No one has asked me either. I’m also certain any gun owner you ask hasn’t been asked either.

    • David March 4, 2016, 10:06 am

I must admit I hate the term “assault rifle”. I was not a big fan of the ARs till my son bought one and I got to shoot it…now I want one as well. Assault rifle…what is that? A fully automatic weapon hat sprays rounds everywhere but where you want them? Even the military limits auto to just three rounds on many weapons. Want to change the public perception of the AR…just add wood grips…looks great then and not so scary to the uninitiated.

      • Andrew N March 4, 2016, 1:43 pm

“Assault Rifle” is a term coined by the Anti’s to make military-style weapons sound more ominous and dangerous. No “real” pro-gun person uses that term die to the negative connotations it evokes with the “not sure” crowd that we depend on to keep our 2nd Amendment Rights alive and well.

        • John R March 4, 2016, 5:31 pm

You are quite correct. Yet even some retailers for gun parts and gizmo’s are screaming in print that you need (insert part here) for your assault rifle and they are just perpetauting the problem.

    • hey March 4, 2016, 10:45 pm

You obviously do not know how our government works. You give them a 1 inch, they take a mile. If you do not want guns to fall in the wrong hands Then fight against the light sentencing curption, we need to start another organization that will force the government to have (REAL WORLD LAWS) to hold criminals, especially government officials accountable. This is why our country is a circus show, with cruption on all levels, especially the violent outburst drug approving FDA, also the incarnation rate that is 6 times higher per GOP than the second worst country in world. If we did this the government and global weathly elite will have a hard time finding the excuse to infringe on the second amendment and prey upon the innocent.

  • flintman50 March 4, 2016, 7:59 am

As usual, gun-control is a slippery slope. Ask the rest of the “free” world how gun-control is working out…..

  • Matt B March 4, 2016, 4:48 am

Great article – keep up the good work ! If you want someone to protect your 2nd Amendment rights (as well as the 1st, and all the others) vote Trump. Otherwise your getting overt socialism, or more of the same BS we have seen over the last decade and a half, regardless of what they read off the Teleprompter. My two cents. Everyone bash away if you like, regurgitate all the pundits and talking heads who were paid to oppose him and his views – spewing misinformation to deter or Shane you away from publicly supporting him – but my saying this is unfortunately more truth than you can find in the average American mind these days. We need big changes, smart people who use common sense at the helm, who don’t get paid off by certain companies or organizations looking to get preferential treatment and influence our laws.. someone who will protect our borders and strengthen our military HERE at home and finally treat our veterans the way they deserve to be treated.. keep the refugees and terrorists from other countries getting in so easily and without going through any vetting process – it’s all insane – far more insane than I could ever be for voting Trump, that is for certain.

    • John R. March 4, 2016, 6:54 am

Trump is a walking, talking, tell them what they want to hear, Barnum and Bailey, bread and circuses joke. No different than Obama. Just hope enough people, in the remaining primaries figure this out. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was a Democrat plant considering the numerous donations he has made to Democratic candidates in the past. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Put a serious microscope on Trump and you’ll see what a flip flopping fraud he really is.

      • Steve March 4, 2016, 8:17 am

It will never happen, the media has manipulated the people to believe which of our candidates is best from the beginning. The media has made people believe that the best candidates are the ones that bicker and fight amongst them selves, putting on a ridicules child like tantrum. People do not investigate for themselves any more, they want others to tell them who is best, and our media has capitalized on this to fool the people. This was done with the Obama campaign, and now with Trump. The blind sheep following whatever noise the media holds up as popular. You are not the only one that feels Trump is a Chump democrat plant, I also feel that when Trump negotiates with whomever, he will sell anyone or anything out to win.
