‘Extremely Intoxicated’ College Student Enters Wrong House, Fatally Shot By Homeowner
“It’s just a terrible, it is a terrible chain of events,” said Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

A tragic situation in Lake Charles, Louisiana, over the holiday weekend as a homeowner fatally shot an intoxicated college student who was trying to enter the homeowner’s residence.

The deceased student who was under the influence has been identified as 21-year-old Joseph Tezeno.

Authorities said that Tezeno was at a party on Monday night when he left and tried entering the man’s home through the front door at around 10:40 p.m.

“The homeowner eventually comes out of the house with a gun, walks around the front of the house, sees a Black, male subject in his garage/shop area, confronts (the man),” Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso said, per KPLC News

The exchange was caught on surveillance cameras however there was no sound recorded.

“It’s obvious, you can’t hear what’s going on, but he’s telling him to get out,” noted Mancuso.

Tezeno then approached the homeowner, who responded by firing a shot at the ground, “like a warning shot,” according to the Sheriff.

Tezeno did not back down and continued to approach the homeowner.  At this point, the homeowner shot the young man twice.

“We don’t believe this person was truly trying to break into this house,” Mancuso said. “We believe he was extremely intoxicated.”

Mancuso said that Tezeno, who was attending McNeese State University, was “by all accounts, a good kid.”

“Evidently he has too much to drink and goes to the wrong house. We really don’t know and we may never know what he was trying to do to get in this house, but the homeowner doesn’t know that. Homeowner by all accounts is startled, thinks someone is trying to break into his house and in Louisiana you have the right to defend your home and yourself and that’s what we believe he was doing,” said the sheriff.

The investigation is ongoing but it’s likely that the homeowner will not face charges.  However, investigators will turn the case over to the Calcasieu District Attorney’s Office for review.

“It’s just a terrible, it is a terrible chain of events,” said Mancuso.

Anyone remember the drunk foreign exchange student who got shot to death by a homeowner he kept advancing on? I think that also happened in Louisiana as well. Not that it’s a weird Louisiana thing.but it’s definitely odd

If you see a man with a weapon while you are where you’re not supposed to be you need to leave.
Yesterday I was confronted by a belligerent man who decided to leave because I asked him to. He could not see my right hand so he left. A wise choice. And yes I called it in because the first caller is the one police believe

Unbelievable that anyone would think this was warranted. I would imagine being that drunk would be apparent. Did he have a gun, other weapon? Was anybody else inside the house? If the owner was not in danger currently- as it appears he wasn’t- I’m sure the cops would have been able to catch him. More ammo for the anti-gunners!

It is sad to see the judgement in some of these comments.

As an armed homeowner, I wonder if the best COA would have been to wait inside until someone actually breaks in, in terms of better demonstrating the threat, for the purposes of the legal aftermath?

I certainly don’t have any cameras around my property. A busted door provides pretty clear evidence of a home invasion. Plus, you can take cover inside, unlike out in the yard, face-to-face with this person.

I dont care about this “good kid”. The asshole got drunk then entered private property uninvited, refused to leave then moved toward’s the homeowner. Lawsuits will follow Im sure. The homeowner should legally go after the party hosts- people must be held libel for providing a powerfull drug – in this case booze to their guests. This bullshit trend in our society where nobodies accountable for their actions needs to cease. Yeah I was a drunken teenage soldier once but still knew enough not to tresspass or break into others property. No Friggen Excuses anymore.

Good proof alcohol n guns don’t mix!!! If my memory serves me correct this has happened in the past BAN drunkenness from college Students . We see the USE OF THE COLOR OF DECECISED BUT NOT THE HOME OWNER GUESS HIS SHOT WAS GOOD .!! Eather way why is it important to mention the intruders color . IS IT JUST BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK .

NOONE MENTIONS IN THE NEWS BLACK ON BLACK GANG SHOOTINGS …MUST BE NORMAL ACTIONS . TO NOT MENTION IT LIKE THE 54 SHOOTINS OVER THE JULY 4TH WEEKEND IN GOV BEETLEJUICE ‘S STATE

I don’t care what our own anti-gun/2A liberals think, so I sure as hell don’t give a damn what some jackass from Australia thinks. Pretty sure I’m right if memory serves correctly – being from another country denies someone the rights provided to US citizens under the 2A. I’d be ok if he was denied his 1A rights as well. Play your game, collect your obscene salary and shut the fk up. Or better yet, go back home and enjoy your native Australia.

I guess now folks will claim this was racially motivated if the home owner is white. But regardless of race, the home owner fired a warning shot; he could not know the deceaseds mindset or intent. He had no choice other than to assume the worst. Why folks drink to excess never ceases to amaze me; nothing good ever comes of it.

I hope whatever the home owner was “protecting” was worth what remained of this young man’s life. Who among us has not gotten drunk and done something foolish? I am glad that I didn’t get shot for doing any of the knuckleheaded stuff I got into after a few beers in my early 20s.

A single dollar is worth more than his life. Even he thought so, apparently.

    • Dr Motown July 8, 2022, 8:59 am

The drunk kept advancing even after a warning shot, so it’s obvious that the homeowner felt his life was in grave danger (his life: something worth “protecting”)…

So in liberal arts would that be a pass or a fail on the student’s part?
